the cartoon sound effects are not welcome.
@ RomikOnLine - Along the animation there's actual narration. Can't say much else other than to listen to it. It said that the Russian principalities were either subjugated or vassalized. I've got nothing against Ukraine nor any reason to represent Ukrainians in a bad light lol. Hope that clears it up a bit. Cheers mate.

2:37 a small mistake hungarian king killled the envoy which was against mongol rules of hospitality.
That Austrian duke though. "Helps" the king then leaves after a quick victory. Then he proceeds to capture the king and annex three of his counties. SUPER helpful lol.
Cam Brubacher Feudal Europe man. Ever kings sought to seem regal and chivalrous while they endeavour to undermine their cousins’ positions. If it wasn’t for this power game, the Byzantines would not have fallen.
Thats Hapbsburgs for you or pretty much every other feudal lord in Europe but the Hapbsburgs were on the top of the game in that respect eventually going on to control large portion of central Europe.

Pretty fascinating how for a greed the whole dynasty goes extinct!

Hey guys! Thank you kindly. Much appreciated!
Kings and Generals you should do a collaboration you two

The fact that a unified political entity waged war from Korea to Hungary in the 1240s!!!! is just mind-meltingly epic.

Historia Civilis, Baz Battles, Kings and Generals and now you, I love these type of videos, especially if they are made with care, just like you do!
Thank you kindly. It sure does take a lot of work.
Is it me or the mongols had an entire array of very competent generals during that century.
They did have quite impressive generals in those days.
The wonders of meritocracy :)
Subotai, Jebe, Jelme, Borchu, Mughlai, Hulagu, Baidar....list goes on and on...
Of course they were great generals, mongols were constantly at war. Practice makes perfect. Read the Genghis Khan books by Conn Igulden for an exciting adventure spanning several novels
Their generals were tribal leaders and thus were capable on meeting logistical needs on the fly while they were also provided with captured engineers which were crucial in capturing forts and of course like in this case building bridges/siege weaponry. Without the engineers work or the military capability of their generals the Mongols would have stayed an irrelevant group of nomadic tribes.
Massive congrats on that 1k buddy!!!! You'll be at 10,000 in no time ;)
Thanks mate! It seems rather strange, this sudden hike in views/subs count. It jumped suddenly within the last 5 hours, I'm actually investigating this.

You make great content so it makes perfect sense. Very intrigued to see what's coming next!

I read that the Mongols pulled out because their Grand Khan died and so they had to all go back to Mongolia to choose a new Grand Khan.
Yup, Ogadei (Great Khan at the time, Khengis son) died from an infected wound that didn't heal because he loved booze too much. His death meant the return of all the Mongol generals to the capital. This happened a few times that saved many nations from being conquered.
They went back to fight for the throne
Yet there are some European nations that celebrate as a part of their national holidays and folklore, ''victory'' over Mongols.
A lot of lies were told in history but internet debunked their lies like no one else. It's so easy to get info these days.
@@SilverforceX Batu didn't go for a choice.
Also, they did not elect a khan for five years.
Then why did they leave?
@@kolobara08
They celebrate the fact that they defeated the mongols because that's what happened historically lol...

Damn mongol fanboys
Tzun Tsu was right about the morale effects for having a retreat.
- in the first battle, the Mongols were with their back to the river. So they could not really retreat. While the Hungarians had a "safe" camp to retreat too
- And then again. the southern escape route being left seemingly open got people to flee - to be cut down.
This was a favourite by Subutai. Whenever the enemy ran to the safety of an encampment, he'd surround the position and pepper it with projectiles until all morale breaks in the defenders in which a convenient gap is left for them to flee. This is obviously a killing field where they would be hunted down like animals. He'd rather have the enemy flee in panic to be cut down in small groups rather than letting them stand and fight to the death to avoid extra casualties.
@@googane7755 They did conquer China before this, so either they read the book or realized the same things independantly.
@@christopherg2347 I think this was discovered independently since most mongols were illiterate and they commonly fought among each other during that period which as a result the mongols had an army full of veteran generals. Also the the Song Dynasty was still unconquered (where I believe Sun Tzu was from) unless his work was stored away elsewhere.
@@christopherg2347 China (Song) was the last to be conquered, the Jin were mostly 'Jurchens' from Manchuria; hence why Han Chinese defected en-mass to the Mongols during the conquest of Jin. Han Chinese were the infantry and (along with Muslims) the siege engineers of the Mongol army. Mongols almost never fought on foot.
The book is called Military Tactics of Sunzi or 孫子兵法 (Sun Tzu in older spelling). Good point!
This is an incredible breakdown especially the timeline in minute detail. I am impressed with the way you expressed the battle formations as well. That was very helpful in visualize the action on the battlefield as it unfolded. Thanks for doing this. I never researched or studied the Mongol incursions into Europe and this was very interesting and enlightening.
This totally helped me in knowing wtf was going on in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
I mean the events of Kingdom Come were considerably later during the early 1400's, about 200 years after the battle, though the Cumans nonetheless still remained in Hungary.
Go play or watch M2TW mod for more.
How is that game btw? I’ve thought of getting it but I don’t know anyone who has personally played it.
Ler Cameron I think it was worth the money. It has a good story progression and runs fairly well. It's alittle buggy but it's understandable. Kept me busy for 2 weeks or so.
@@Draconic_Mantis the mongols attacked the kingdom of Hungary for several hundred years
Amazing work! I really liked the huge amount of detail that you put into this video. You mentioned a lot of important stuff that I missed from other videos, like the cumans and the hate from the nobility towards Béla. I absolutely loved the map of the battlefield too with all the correct names of the settlements (there is 1 or 2 misspelled names but it's more than okay), it really shows your dedication. Thanks for this great video you just got yourself a new subscriber.
Just found this channel and I have to say this is awesome. Well researched, well animated and understandable. Instant sub!
Very well done! A high quality video visually, and I was impressed with your research here. While I think your coverage of the reasons for the Mongol westward expansion could have been given more detail, as with the period after the defeat at Mohi (you do cover it in the cards at the end, and understandably there is a limit to have much information you can put in one video) the campaign itself was well covered. The context of the battle is very important to have clear to understand why it is important, and I think it is worth the effort to spend more time on that and shave a little bit off the battle itself (but that's just me, as someone who is more interested in the historical period rather than the actual battle)
Perhaps a bit more on the army composition and fighting styles would be a good addition, and who is on each side and their significance, which makes it easier to relate to the impact of political factors on the campaigns. Not to mention showing which generals are on which side in a card perhaps of sorts? You mention Shiban at one point, one of Jochi's sons and Batu's brother, but I don't think had mentioned him prior to then, making him come out of nowhere somewhat.
The pronunciation of the Mongolian names was perhaps a bit weak (Chinggis Khan, not Genghis!) but I did like that you said Pest properly! Overall nicely done, very impressive and I definitely look forward to more!
The Demand for channels like this outweighs the current UA-cam Supply. Super happy to see another quality channel filling that gap. Keep up the awesome content!
During the three videos of yours I've watched over the past hour, you've gained 300 new subs. That's a pretty phenomenal rate given that your base subscriptions arn't all that high at present. If it continues at that rate you'll be knocking on 100k subs in no time. Content wins prizes :)

Absolute Gem of a Channel! Keep up the good work bro!
Came from Bazbattles. Nice videos. Just remove the bong sound effects with maybe the sound of a flag flapping. Loved the detail. Keep it up. You are very enthusiastic !
Thank you very much! Welcome to the channel. And thanks a lot for the suggestion! I've had people suggesting to change the boing sound, your suggestion for the 'flag flapping' is an awesome idea!
HistoryMarche thanks. Appreciate the reply!!!!
Yeah, the bong sound is the only nitpick I have about these videos. Especially when they pop up one after the other, it just sounds too cartoony when set against the rest of the video style.
Just don't make the sound effects to loud, its more about you and the storytelling ;P
The sounds are for extra immersion, but it gets annoying if it's to loud.
Good luck :D
Yep, the videos are great. I've watched all of the similar channels videos, and surely the boing needs to be removed :P Keep it up!
I watched all four of your videos and I like how you give a info chart on the leaders. I liked also how you show the battles detailing the environment to get a better understanding of the location. Especially when you are explaining how the Mongols were watching their every move the way you showed it was classic. Keep up the good work. Looking forward for more and gets even better.
Yeah, I was hoping people will like the binoculars :D
Amusing to see the battle of Legnica mentioned as a minor sideshow. In Polish historiography Legnica was THE battle fought against the Mongol invasion. Most Poles will never have heard of Mohi, even though it was 5 to 10 times bigger and far more important in the campaign as a whole.
I feel like more of these history channel's appear randomly. And I love it.. Keep the good work
What a backstabbing by the Austrians.
Indeed, Frederick II is also a big suspect in the death of Khan Koten. So many domestic and foreign political figures wanted to destabilize Hungary in the wake of the Mongol invasion.
Oh yes they always did this. 300 years later in 1526 when the ottomans invaded Hungary, Austrians did the same, they took control of the north-western part of Hungary and compromised with the Turks.
Game of Thorne level of betrayal right there....sad chapter part in Hungarian history.
It's just usual..
Yes, good point (there was also the Emperor Frederick who wanted to weaken Hungary because Bela stood by the Pope.) From what I have read Frederick and his mounted knights captured a group of Tatars that was raiding in the area of Gyor zupa (county) I would have to double check the exact place, these captured raiders turned up to be Cumans because Mongols (Tatars) employed all sorts of ethnicities from their conquered territories and sent them to the forefront to cause havoc before the main army swooped down. Frederick kept a few alive and brought them to Pest to show people "the enemy" Hungarians were already averse to Cumans because they continued to live their nomadic livestyle, pillaging, trampling orchards, fields, raping women, stealing cattle...Czecho-slovak historian Dvorak wrote in his Book (Stopy Davnej minulosti) that after the complains became too numerous, Bela tried to break up Cumans and spread them out across Hungary. (Initially he settled them between the river Moros and Koros - tributaries of river Tisa, because this marshy area wasn't populated.). Sadly it was too late. People were frightened and believed that Cumans living among them were on the side of Tatars and were turning against them so they killed Kotten. Of course this is just what Frederick and Bela's HUngarian enemies (whose lands were returned back to the crown) wanted. Frederick held grudge against Bela for the money he had to pay him over territorial squabble. At this point Frederick also understood that he was incapable to produce an heir, I imagine that was a huge thorn in his side, making him Frederick the Quarrelsome.

edit: Noticed in comments it is inevitable to mention KaG, as they presented yesterday the same event. I appreciate their show too, but.. quality takes time (and, in many cases, much more creativity than shown). So, keep up the good work, I am certain it will be worthy of your effort very soon.

One of my favorite things that kings & generals does, is the animation they have for destroyed units in battle, i think adding something similar would be quite nice! awesome docs so far tho man, keep it up
Thank you for the kind words. Guess it's a matter of preference. I prefer the gradual cracking of units. It coveys better the gradual loses a unit takes during combat as opposed to a sudden burst like a light bulb. To each his own I guess.

What I found especially interesting, the use of artillery. The ballistrads were mostly used against fortresses and cities. In very few occasions were mentioned in plain battles. These were not effective due to their short range, extremly heavyness and cumbersome transportability. I witnessed one during work, even helped to prepare the shot. It shoot a human head sized stone to one hundred and fifty meters. Then it took almost ten minutes to shoot again. So this machine could kill one or two man in every ten minutes.
This is everything I’ve ever wanted from a history channel

Historian 1: How should we call this battle? It was between two villages. One is Muhi but that sounds lame
Historian 2: And the other?
Historian 1: Nagycsécs (literally means Big Tit, or Great Teat, archaically)

Just a small information: IV. Bela lost all battles where he personally attended. And his lack of military powress was well known even when he became the king, and more of that, he alianated all his faters supporters. So that is the main reasons of the loss of battle of Muhi (not Mohi!). However the mongol army could only to cross the Danube on winter: the nobility (who werent at Muhi) has the power to controll the potential crossings. But thw winter of 1241/1242 was cold, and the Danube froze...
