    This video shows how to make a DIY Mini UPS for WiFi Router.
    JLCPCB: $2 for 2Layer, 5pcs & $5 for 4Layer, 5pcs: jlcpcb.com
    I will guide you step by step on how to make a DIY Mini UPS for WiFi Router by using an XL4015 buck converter module and XL6019 Boost Converter. I am getting around 5 Hours back in my WiFi Router ( 7W ). I am explaining the schematic also.

    Thanks for the video, i executed the above and found
    1. Reverse flow of current from battery to XL4015 during discharging, added a diode to counter it, since diode has very low voltage drop, it started heating, added two diodes in parallel to make it work. i,e Fuse ---|>---OUT+ of XL4015
    2. In case of any issue with 4015, current load would increase suddenly as battery would start discharging in addition to existing 12V input, suggestion to add a fuse before the final output.
    3. There was significant drop of voltage ~2 V across LED, hence removed LEDs from the circuit.

    Thank you for this video. It has helped me solve the issue with my DIY wifi router project. Unlike your, I was using a relay to switch power between the battery and mains. However the issue with this design was that the relay would not switch off immediately. This caused an issue where the wifi router would shut down temporarily before restarting . But by using your approach of using a diode instead of the relay at the output, helped eliminate the switching problem of the relay.
    Thank you once again.

    Great project. Congratulations.
    In my case, I will assemble without the switch and the LED display.
    The system will be automatic. When power is out, this system will supply power to the Wi-Fi router. And when the power returns, the UPS will recharge 18650 cells.
    But I must put more cells in parallel, because I also use a fiber optic modem and I want more autonomy.
    My router is a TP-Link Archer C5.

    That Schottky diode drops the voltage of the input adapter to significant amount that the load(router) starts drawing current from XL6019 boost converter even if the batteries are fully charged

    This time you have taken many precautions and looking at this V3.0 I think it won't have many unexpected consequences like reverse current etc. The only thing I am curious to know is whether you are using it continuously powered up from the mains socket? Also, I have come across relay modules that switch ON the battery power automatically when the power goes off and then turns the battery off when it's online. It is of particular interest because it switches off the power completely to the batteries if the mains power is ON.
    I have not completely understood the Relay system for now but it looks like a perfect candidate for UPS. You can take a look at it for your V4.0. Other then that, do let us know if there are some issues in your regular usage of this V3.0 UPS. Nice improvement!

    • @opengreenenergy
      @opengreenenergy  3 роки тому +4

      Yeah, I am using it continuously powered up from the main socket. Still now I have not faced any problems.
      I have tasted it with relay, but during switching, router starts rebooting. So I discarded the idea, thinking to use a MOSFET circuit to switch between mains and battery.
      Thank you for your valuable feedback.

    Very Nice work. I have a doubt about the connection diagram.
    - What is a use of direct 12v connection with a diode going to the output? As it will cause two 12v outputs merging at output (direct + boost converter) considering switch will be on all the time(I believe it suppose to be on). Will it divide the load between boost converter and direct connection?
    I have seen some other similar UPS which does not have that direct connection, as boost converter is always providing the power(incoming power as well as on battery).

    Very Good work and nice explanation!
    Just wondering why you have chosen to create 2s battery pack with 4 batteries, I made a 3S battery pack with each cell of 2600 Mah. This way we can avoid both buck converter and boost converter. I assume every router has internal voltage regulator so need to boost voltage to absolute 12V. Please share your thoughts.

    • @shradhhaenterprises1439
      @shradhhaenterprises1439 2 роки тому

      Yes
      Using 3S pack of 11.1V having voltage of 12.6 at battery full condition
      And having low cutoff of 9V in BMS
      So it lasts around 6-7 Hrs for any regular router
      Here both Buck converter and boost converter are not required
      Only Voltage regulator or single boost converter at output is needed

    The schematic for V3.0 is different from the V2.0 version.

    I created this project and it's working great. But if I remove charger from the battery, it always takes power from battery and battery starts draining even my power source is attached. Why is this happening? Is it because of power adapter voltage is less than 12v due to the use of schottky diode? or there is some other reason? Please elaborate this

    Hi, Thanks for all the videos you made on these series. I have watched till v5 and gone through the instructables. I feel.this is the one I Should make it.I tried to check the components in the suggestion some of them aren't available. To start I don't see 2s 8A BMS, I am trying to understand the difference between 2s 10A or 2s 8A and 2s 3A. It would be great if you help me finding the right components.

      2S 3S 4S etc for cells in series means 2 cells 3.7 +3.7 =7.4V 3 cells 3.7+3.7+3.7 = 11.1V to take more current cells can be connected in parallel and current capacity will be enhanced but not the voltage. In series voltage adds up while current remains the same.and 3A 8A 10A etc is the current capacity for the BMS. Hope its clear.

    I see one problem with the circuit. The diodes that limit the current to flow back will get hot if there is a bigger power one the load. I made a similar project but with lead acid battery and i had problems with diodes. A relay would be better to switch between power sources

    • @AbidAli-bo8sv

    Thanks for this!! I made the V3 powerbank!! It's giving me around 3 hrs of battery backup(due to old salvaged batteries)
    But there is one problem if I empty the battery completely, the adapter cannot charge both the battery + power the router. Due to lack of current the XL4019 starts oscillating and LED starts blinking.
    Do you have any links for a more powerful adapter? Something like 4 or 5 Amps?

      12V 5A
      From Amazon, a company called Bectro (bectro powersupply SMPS)
      Now I upgraded the original setup to include two switches one that disconnects the battery and another that cuts the power to the voltmeter.
      I took the SMPS and built it inside the housing and added a low voltage 5volt fan (it's not connected to the backup) and a few heatsinks over the IC (robu had a really good sale so I bought it from them)

    Doubt: Shouldn't the XL6019 be directly connected to BMS P+ ? The switch could control just the voltmeter. In the current scheme, the volt meter will drain the battery needlessly when external power is off.

    • @opengreenenergy
      @opengreenenergy  3 роки тому +1

      You are correct.I will suggest to use a separate switch for volt meter and XL6019.
      Otherwise, the boost converter also drain some energy.

    But this is not an UPS since there is no power loss sensor. If the toggle switch is always on. The boost converter and the wall charger simultaneously give 12v. If the toggle switch is off, when there’s power loss the boost converter won’t kick in.
