  • I spent a couple of days on dartmoor meeting up with friends I've not seen in a while .
Also gave me the opportunity to try out my new camera, this is the first real trip I've taken it on and the first time I've used it, I've only had it a couple of weeks ,but in those 2 weeks I've studied and got to know the camera , so this is it's first use .
I did record the wildcamping hike, but this will be on my other channel called. Not your average Joe , link below.
I explain the reason for not uploading often, but I will go into more detail here, so get ready for a rant.
UA-cam have made it harder for people to get there videos noticed unless you are prepared to do a video a day to push there format ,if like me you just want to upload once a week or every 2 weeks, your videos will not get noticed due to the algorithm, tags in your video have little to no effect, HD thumb nails has little to no effect ,what you write down in the description box has little to no effect on the views of your videos , also to monetise your channel you need at least 1000 subscribers and 4000 public viewing hours a month my viewing hours a month has gone from 3.5k to 1.7k a month after 4 years which means my videos are not coming up in peoples feeds or being near top of search parameters, youtube are quick enough to put adverts in my videos so they get revenue off of my work where as I get nothing , so the only views my videos get is from the subscribers who actually watch my videos and considering I have 1500 subs only a small percentage less than 5% watch my videos. ( thanks for that).
The only way your videos get noticed is through comments and likes , my videos get one or two comments and very few likes . So as you can see I am not going to bow down to the people who run youtube by promoting their brand they can go fuck themselves, and I'm certainly not going to chase the algorithm, so I've made the decision to upload a video when I can be arsed or the situation warrants it.
All us smaller channels want is a fair chance , which we are not getting , so if you are subscribed and don't watch my videos or comment or like ,not even once in a while , then please do me a favour and sod off because your not helping the channel.
Again, if you found this offensive, tough shit , I'm not here to be anyone's mate.
So, as you can see, if the subscribers or people in general can not be bothered to watch, then why should I bust a bollock making videos.
Either way it's more fun without a video camera , which I am finding myself doing a lot of.
Filmed on gopro Hero 8 on location in the Dartmoor National Park.
    My other channel.

I am 72 years old, and I recently gave all of my heavy Canon equipment to my granddaughter. I bought a Canon PowerShot ELPH 360 HS Digital Pocket Camera. I just shoot wide angle shots now. Good luck with your new camera equipment. I really enjoy your UA-cam channel and will continue to watch it. Take Care!

I made almost the same decision. The E-M1 III feels better in my hand. What should not be underestimated is the weather resistance of the OMs. I don't have to tell a Brit anything about the weather. I only use the D500 in the city, with the Tamron 10-24mm.
    Greetings from the Black Forest.

Ha ha 😂. I know what you mean . I brought a pair of boots 2 weeks ago, and what made me buy them was their selling point, which was.. British weatherproof. 🤣🤣🤣.
      I had the tamron 10-24 it's a superb lens..

Just found you, new sub- just read your description: 100% support you, UA-cam & instagram as bad as each other - forcing you to post constantly and to get engagement otherwise you just don’t get seen. Really killing the casual poster. So I’m with you, good for you- do what works for you and feck the system 😄 great content and look forward to seeing how you get on. I’m thinking to sell my Sony gear as it’s too big and too expensive so interested in M43, low light and speed/autofocus is my concern coming from full frame . Anyway….. look forward to your next video - whenever it is 😄

Glad you agree with me but lots don't but I don't give a flying lol.
M43 has gone forwards in leeps and bounds in the last few years and in my opinion at the front when it comes to camera tech. 7.5 stops ibis 50 and 80mp raw high res images lots lots more , it was a big step for me to sell up but after this weekend on dartmoor , I know I made the right decision . What fun that camera is.
      Thank you for watching.

    I’m a new subscriber.
I have the EM5 mkiii which I am taking on an overseas trip. At the moment I’ve decided to include the 12-32 kit lens from Panasonic to make the gear lighter and the plastic fantastic 40-150 Olympus. I’m also tucking in the bag a back up body EPL9. Advantage is they take the same battery. Still contemplating whether to swap the 12-32 with my 12-45 pro lens ( which tho ‘lightweight’ is considerably heavier than the Panasonic lens). Oh I forgot I’m also taking the Panasonic Lumix 20 mm 1.7. I’m a total amateur but find the Olympus / Panasonic gear to suit my needs. Good luck with your OM5 gear I may well sell my other camera equipment and upgrade to that model next year but for now the EM5 mkiii is fine for me.

OM Systems are fantastic as are Nikon and canon and Sony and any other company but they are all not suited for everyone that’s why we have so many manufacturers so when people attack others for what they use i generally think they have very little going on in their sad little lives ,so keep doing what you do and just enjoy the time God has given you and keep up the fun videos .

Just found your channel. I’m some years older than you and yes, I only use Olympus/OMS/Lumix camera gear now, though still have my Nikon D7500. The OM5 is light, and a beautiful camera to carry. Just watch the shutter in a year or two. Mine is a replacement for my EM5iii, which had known shutter sticking problems, and the thumb cover on the back right hand side, can come off. I believe these have followed into the OM5. Like you, I find the OM1 a little heavy and doesn’t suit my smaller hand. The OM5 is an improvement over the EM5iii, complete with ND filters (manual and shutter modes only), starry sky and the things you mentioned. Enjoy!🇦🇺

Good to hear those points you mentioned , I did extensive research ( literature, not youtube), and the sticky shutter was mentioned, but could not put a definitive answer to it being addressed .
I've a long way to go with this om-5, and learning of a new camera is such fun..

Hello Patrica . You never know what's around the corner for me .
With my Nikon gear, I was primarily a wildlife photographer, which I will still do, I am going to a couple of nature reserves in the cotswolds today ( I live near them) to try out the om-5 for wildlife with the 100-400mm olympus lens , should prove interesting. But I was looking at the em-1 mkiii . I still might , just for wildlife.

I tell you something Steven ,it was an absolute joy doing a two day hike with this camera . The 45mm hasn't arrived yet, but it is on the way to me as we speak. The OM-5 with the 12-45 f/4 is one of my favorite combos. The 40-150 f/4 and the 20mm f/1.4 also pair nicely ... small and light weight. And everything weather sealed.

      @Wessexphotography  2 дні тому

Really enjoyed using the 12-45 on this two day hike , but I might look out for a small wide-angle prime for the next trip down here. At least then it will fit in my pocket . I have not tried my 100-400 yet for wildlife , I'm going out today, 18th Sept, to a couple of nature reserve to try that out.

CONGRATULATIONS! When I decided to getbback into photography, size & weight wer my two biggest concerns. I originally chose a bridge camera, and bought more than one, well used, to see if I liked them. I did, but the sensor size bothered me, so I went with M43. It's very nice, and I'm not selling photos, so this is all just for me. When I started back, I watched some YT videos & consulted my oldest son, who's an enthusiastic amateur. My camera was an old Pentax K10D, which, as I'm sure you know, is a big heavy camera. He recommendded full frame, but after I looked at what photographers had to carry, I decided as you did. After all, this supposed to be FUN. Anyway, new subscriber & glad to make your acquaintance. I hope you like M43 as much as I do.

Hello Steven, welcome aboard. You are right wholeheartedly. Photography is fun, and I think a lot of people get caught up in the snobbery of it and bragging rights on there kit , I've one small sentence for that lot , but I won't say it here . Needless to say, when I go out to do photography, whether it's woodland, landscape, or wildlife, I go out and have fun .
      Thank you for watching.

And leave it at that. If they don't like it, leave a thumbs down if it makes them feel a rebel and move on , I seriously don't give a shit.
