I get tricked into being the wedding photographer for my mother in law Jenny but things get even worse when we sit down to record a little video.
Due to being on the road I decided to cobble together some entertaining content but when my wife and her mother find out the true cost of my camera gear things get a bit...tense.
I'm crafty though, so I find a way to turn the tables and justify my outrageously expensive camera gear. From telephoto lenses to rubber blowers, every landscape photographer needs a camera bag full of toys to capture great images but perhaps I've taken things little too far.

The best part about justifying camera gear: When you're old and grey and you and your children want to see the photos of your life, the price you paid for the instruments used won't even be discussed.

I love the way Gavin included his book as part of his "essential camera gear". 😆 In a way I guess it’s essential gear to carry so that he can include his humorous shameless plugs in nearly every video he makes. 😁 I did enjoy the read and beautiful content I must admit.

But, in your defense, your photos are off the chain. I truly enjoy the videos. I'm just an amature, and l know new gear seems to come out every month. And it's not cheap. You didn't get to pro level with a point n shoot. Anyway, you and Amanda keep on truckin!

The number of times I have this exact same debate with myself (as a hobbyist!) and I sit there with all my gear on the dining table (won't fit on the desk anymore) and think... Wow really? And then I look at how much a 2 week cruise costs and I'm happy again.

The Sony 100-400 f//2.8 is about $2500US. As an Apple shareholder I love that you paid $4000 for the laptop. I don't buy Apple products (phone excluded) because they are twice the price and half as capable as a Dell laptop although I love that you contributed to my share price - WAY TO GO!

Great video, I think you're totally justified in buying all that gear! Your next video should be on the cost of all the stuff you bought and then never or rarely used. That's the gear I always look at and think... why... why did I buy that! And Congrats to Jenny and Bruce.

Truth be told my dirty pleasure in gear is body cap lenses, so I can openly spend the money and my wife is OK with it. When I do spend the big money, well... I make sure it is timed around big life events. She said she was worried I had a midlife crisis, I didn't, but I ordered a new camera body straight away. "For therapy reasons."

So much *judgement* from the parents-in-law. New kitchen this...new furniture that. See, Gavin, the trick is to be single. It's great. Nobody judging the unnecessarily-expensive camera gear. I just cry myself to sleep every night with the X2D on the other pillow. It's fine. It's all fine.

The other day, I looked in my camera "closet" (yes, I need a full closet for my gear) and asked myself what I was thinking. Then I took out my infrared converted camera and went out to take some photographs. There really is no price on that joy. At least that's what I will keep telling myself...

funny video🤣, appreciated, but remember to stay focused on photography rather than gear. that's what makes this channel different, It's sad most people are looking for gear channels that don't do anything to improve photography. I actually learned something on this channel while having fun.

The Xd2 is working out great with the 25mm v lens but God how much longer will I have to wait on the 90 mm.
I was going to buy the RRS ballhead for my FLM legs.... but then I found the Acratech Pano head. Was it cheaper? Was it More Expensive? I dunno, I just know it meant I had to buy more kit for my FLM legs. And lets face it, as a photographer, the chance to pay someone even more money to make something that already cost too much money work, is just the best feeling..... excuse me while I go back to the corner and weep....

I really enjoyed this and it was good fun. It is expensive but you know what we love it. I look at all my gear and I probably Own. I reckon $30,000 worth of gear now because I'm in GFX and my partner sees all of my gear but she sees what I produce and then goes you just do whatever you wanna do. I don't drink alcohol. I don't eat junk food. I don't waste money on crap. I don't buy fancy clothes in fact I buy shoes from op shop as we call them Australia. I saved every cent so I can spend more money on camera gear you always make me laugh you guys love your channel even though it's got some great serious content there's great humour in it as well and that is good for all of us. I'm looking forward to seeing the wedding pics ha ha !!!! Just don't use the hasselblad for wedding photos
