    Tough day Simon but respect for showing your struggles - we all have those days! The course is very photogenic. I really enjoy playing quirky courses. Sure some people would dismiss the 4th hole as easy because of the yardage but it looks one of those that can throw up birdies and bogies in equal measure.

      Hi Neil, the tough days make the good days so much sweeter. But what great views, so many links courses are at ground level and you see nothing but dunes. Got to go back when we get some decent high pressure ans no wind. I used to go all the time as a single guy for the weekend as it's only 2 hours from home. The 16th and 17th share the same tee box so you play one hole and then walk back to the same tee. That's quirky. If the course is empty you can play both tee shots and save the walk.

    I just watched Mark Crossfield's Christmas special and on the first few holes I was thinking, "I recognise this courses" I knew I hadn't played it because I've never played golf in Devon or even Somerset. Then I realised I've seen Ilfracombe GC on your channel..

      I had a quick look. They picked the wrong day for that course! There is nothing to stop the wind up there. I'd love to go back on a windless day.

    Thanks for your insights. The voice over works very well. Better than fighting the wind. Well done.

      The great thing was no matter the score I had the views and was dry. Got to go back and do it again with the lads once car sharing etc is more viable.

      It's amazing being up high, no sand dunes but the views are great. All the way over to Wales 23 miles away.

    Absolutely a spectacular looking course! Those views! Love the B-roll! Man those seagulls pulled an air strike on your car. That coffee machine looks like something out of the movie Spaceballs. Right off the bat, that first hole seems really intimidating. I struggle in the wind as well, but I'm sure the wind there is on a different level. Nothing will get the nerves tingling more then having to putt on super fast greens with heavy winds. I bet pars there felt like birdies. Great eagle opportunity on the 8th! Great video, cant wait to see the back 9!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому +1

      That wind was cruel and the car was a mess. I have no idea how these coffee machines work. The pars did feel like birdies, I didn't sleep well and didn't hit the ball well that day. The old over the top but I managed to hit it properly twice on the 8th. Had a long walk forward to spot where the green was.

    Absolute love the view on the 3rd!! So funny we both were stuck in the same situation - slow in front, pushy behind. But leaving the round with a happy ending! Great par right there

    G'day Simon
    Now that is a stunning golf course and a good test on your golf skills.
    Doesn't have to be long, just use the existing hills and valley's and then throw in some wind and you have a true test of golf
    Have to put that course in my bucket list if and when we can travel overseas again

      No matter how much you promise yourself to swing easy you just try to hit it harder. A couple of days later on my own course I shot 86 simply because I had destroyed my swing in that wind. We all do it and we don't seem to be able to avoid it.

    coffee is god simon,,well in my book,,nice new car and being blue the sea gulls think it is a puddle hence the droppings ,,i always wax my car at least twice a year to give it the added protection from all birds ,, that first hole reminds me of the first at cleeve ,,nice voice over ,which makes a nice change as we get a bit more info ,,, take it easy ,,,

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому

      Hi Eddie, I'm weird - I don't drink tea or coffee. I wax mine too, it gives some protection against birds burning the paint. That first is quite tight, if I had just hit the 2nd shot in the right direction it could have been a 2 putt bird as it's not a long hole. I can't reach the 1st at Cleeve in 2. Last time I was there it started to snow as we were out at the 13th, it was a long walk back to the car.

      @@thehairygolfer oh my god Simon of all the holes for the snow to arrive at ,as you could not be any further from the club house and not an easy trek back from there , and what a great test to try to achieve a par as that green is a nightmare to attack ,,we played there on a society day and at the very same hole ,one of the guys battery on his trolley gave up the ghost ,obviously he did not finish his round,as it nearly finished him off getting it back ,,great memories of Cleeve and always great food,

      @@eddielloyd4070 13 is a pig of a green, I can't remember making pars on that hole. It was drifting up against the clubhouse when we got back. It was quite funny really and as you say - the food is fantastic there. I think the 16th is one of best par 3's I've ever played. I love listening to the skylarks on a still day in the summer, but not so many of those up there!

  • @TerminatorGolf

    I really like the voiceover style of this video, even though the wind wiped the audio, your personality still really shines through! What a “tiny” Oceanside course, it looks like so much fun, especially a 64y par 3!!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому +1

      A number of those holes cross over each other and the 16th and 17th share the same tee box. The views are outstanding. We used to go down there for the weekend as single guys on a friday after work. A bit of golf, a bit of sea fishing off the harbour wall, some beer and see if we could find some willing local talent. That 64 yards is pretty scary as it's all OB and lost ball short of the green. I laughed a lot and sometimes cried too LOL

  • @colinbland3716
    @colinbland3716 4 роки тому +1

    Great views of the Devon coast. Given it is par 69 I think you should get in the low 80s. Might be a short course but a difficult challenge given the wind and blind shots.

    Lovely course. My mate Jim has played there a few times and he likes the course.
    Looking forward to the back 9 already
    P.s. how do you do voice-over?

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому

      No Par 5's on the back 9 so it's harder and that wind is cruel. You need a cheap mic for a voice over and on the menu above the time line is a 'record/caption' option and you will find the voice over option in the menu.

  • @Bigg14726

    I played here yesterday. Found it quiet tough with the wind and greens did bobble a bit. Had a wicked slice going on as well which hurt distance off the tee & the wind just made it hard overall. Quiet quirky 7th 8th & 14 all in and around you. Nice video this though, thanks 😊

      Hi Graham, I have so much history on that course and love it. A summers morning with no wind can't be beat. I guess it's a bit early in the year for perfect greens, ours certainly smooth just yet,
