“Why can’t I get crank windows anymore? Once those motors break, it’s two thousand dollars to get them fixed!”
“Why can’t I get vent windows anymore? We didn’t need air conditioning when we had vent windows!”
“Why don’t they make cars with carburetors and ignition points anymore? In my day, when you broke down in the side of the road.. you could change the points yourself. You could clean the spark plugs yourself. You could change the fuel pump yourself. I drove 50 miles just by pumping the gas pedal one time my fuel pump went. Now it’s all *computors!* And you need a special *computor* to even change the oil! You can’t even find a dipstick in a new car! They don’t want anyone working on their cars! And that’s why old cars -that were restored at cost over twice appraised value- last _FOREVER!”_

I just bought one of these cars a few weeks ago because the price was good and it had low miles so I just took a chance and brought it… and I am AMAZED at how nice it is for the price this has got to be the most slept on car that I can think of. I could also not believe how fast the car is… like this is genuinely a fast car the 3.5 engine is fantastic. I honestly think it’s the best part of the car Toyota even still uses this engine currently today 17 years later.
I cannot say enough good things about this car. Huge trunk space, huge interior space, it’s luxurious on the inside, it’s reliable, if you get the limited and higher model trim you get almost all the features of modern day cars in a car from 2005…. this is really a 10 out of 10 product for something that you would want to use on a regular basis. I’m happy that I got to experience this car also for the fact that Toyota has reportedly discontinued the Avalon nameplate.

Years, and years, and years ago, I read an article in a copy of Automobile Magazine at a doctors office that talked about “the Top 3 Senior Citizen Cars!!” And the whole point was that they were hooning big, boring sedans whose sales figures showed that 90% or more of the folks that bought them were 85 or older And number one, was the Toyota Avalon. That was so memorable for _some reason_ that it’s stuck with me ever since. So that’s the answer to the question, “who was this car for?”

As a Toyota Technician in 2005 the third Gen Avalons were prone to problems the 2nd generation didn't have and I always preferred the 2nd Gen for that reason. I had more early 3.5 liter V6s out on the ground getting timing covers resealed and Toyota had a major recall for a rubber hose that would fail and dump all your engine oil out on the ground. Then the VVTi Camgears would fail and later Toyota updated the parts but it required the camshafts to be changed as well and that makes these engines not worth the cost of repair 15 years later. When a 3rd gen Avalon is working correctly they are a great car but when they do break they break in a big way.

The goth kid passing the fitness exam! That's me. In 9th grade I moved to New England from the Virginia countryside. I was into screaming metal, Tripp pants, black clothing and I slicked my hair similarly to late greasers.
I started playing football and going to the school weight room. It's a separate little building next to the track. This building hosted a completely different culture. My family was homeless at the time and all the other kids in town have rich parents. The standard of living is so much higher here that I made the poor kids look rich.
I walked into the weight lifting room wearing red and black converse and black jeans. From the age of 3 I loved worlds strongest man competition 💪. Having only lifted things as a chore I was very excited to learn and visibly made the room uncomfortable 😀. I proceeded to hoist over 300 pounds on a hex bar for reps. I was simultaneously showing up the schools mouthy tough guy. Everyone was very impressed. Some were jealous and others supportive.
There was one coach there. Mod to late twenties. A veteran. Clearly juiced now that I think of it. Smaller build guy average I'd say and popular with the student athletes. He took note. And I continued to show up and improve and he just loved calling twilight. 🤣

Toyota cars being described as Japanese Buicks is soooo true seeing how they actually did copy a lot of the American cars in this country before bringing out Lexus. It's also why a lot of their cars are two toned in the 90s, because that's how cars were back in the day in this country in the 50s and they were trying to appeal to that age demographic who were then wealthy enough to buy such cars. Toyota has an amazing marketing department.

My dad had one of these, I will say was comfy as hell in the back. Leg room for days- the back seats could even recline a bit. They went and bought another one a year ago, I assume without a minute of research, just going on the general comfort and reliability of the old one. The first time I drove it, probably a year into their ownership, I remarked about the lane assist features, they didn’t realize it even had that.

Highway MPG is pretty amazing for a big relatively powerful car, if it isn’t too windy you can achieve over 30mpg at 80mph. It is a great long trip car, but they made the gas tank too small.

At 30 mpg how big does it need to be? Sounds like the range would be excellent.

My sister takes naps in the rear reclining seats of my ‘07 Avalon Touring. It’s stupid specious and the leather seats are extremely comfortable. Just purchased the car in August last year and haven’t had any issues with it whatsoever, it’s never not started. I’ve tinted the windows to 5% and she looks beautiful. Put her on new Yokohamas and plan some more personalization in the future. (Vouge tires, new rims, starlight headliner, muffler delete) Might be a grandma car to some but it’s basically a Lexus for a Camry price and maintenance costs. 159k miles when I bought it and we all know Toyotas can last well into 200k no problem with a little TLC. Wish the front end was a bit more aggressive but besides that the car is a dream.

Everyone who I've met who drives an Avalon has had the character of white sandwich bread.
They're the car for people who want a car more boring and cushy than the Camry, but have $3.

Yeah no I’m going to have to not agree with the whole boring car thing this is legitimately a sweet car with a powerful engine that if you punch it testing will take the hell off like a bat out of hell I don’t agree with the whole “boring car” thing some people like to throw around a boring car is a car that’s not fast and has no creature comforts that’s a boring car this thing has almost 300 hp to the front wheels reclining where is seats great luxurious looking interior and it’s a big car this is legitimately not a boring vehicle.
Also the Camry isn’t boring either depending on what model you get if you get like a base model LE yeah it’s just a normal car but the V6 SE Camry‘s are actually fun cars and they look great.

My mom had a 2006 xls, it was a very nice car to ride in. I remember how crazy it was that the rear seats in a sedan recline, very comfortable even for sleeping. It felt fast when I got my license and I liked driving it.

Helped my cousin buy one a couple years back, everything was in great condition but had a Mexico title, dents on the trunk, disconnected trunk struts, and the emergency trunk release handle was missing... But only had 90k miles and was $3k!
