Marva Whitney (born Marva Ann Manning on May 1, 1944 in Kansas City, is an African American funk singer. She is considered by many funk enthusiasts to be one of the "rawest" and "brassiest" music divas.[1] Whitney's she was able to make a name for herself with powerful songs like "I'm Tired, I'm Tired, I'm Tired (Things Better Change Before Its Too Late)" and "If You Don't Work (You Can't Eat)." Her recording of "It's My Thing (You Can't Tell Me Who to Sock It To)" reached the R&B Top 20
I've listened that some many times - it is the best performance, the best voice , the best of the best ever of everything I\ve heard! ***************MARVA*****************
My God!!! She is brilliant!. I've never heard her before. I was looking for the song, and came across her. In case you want to know, the song is called "Who Can I Turn To" and it's from the broadway play "Roar of the Greasepaint - Smell of the Crowd" 1964 by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, but its very different in the play. A British man sings it.
She had a VOICE, way beyond just "soul sister" quality. It reached to the heavens. Too bad she got stuck singing as back-up singer for JB! That crap didnot do her God- given talent justice.
World class talent!! It's a shame that her tremendous gift wasn't given the recognition it deserved.
I have always said, that this kind talent is rare, but what,A Voice.
