Well I've not gotten adventurous enough yet to buy a whole fleece yet, but some of the businesses that had fiber fairs cancel on them were on a Facebook page last month and I watched them and bought 4 batts and one set of dyed silk hankies. Yes I spent too much but my son bought half of them for my mother's day present! Lol He loves me! And he's a good son! And then he turned around and bought his step father a new set of tires for his motorcycle! They have not got here yet. My hubby will be surprised! Lol I can't wait til they show up! I crochet and have since my cousin taught me when I was 12 yrs old. I bead, with the small seed beads. I sew, I'm learning to spin, I got the Nano electric wheel I'm also teaching myself to knit. Have bought the plans to make a thrifty fox spinning wheel also. Just have to get the materials to cut and put together! This got longer than I ment for it too.
I watch but don’t weave. I just started spinning, and have been knitting since I was 8. I had a nerve problem, which caused my mouth to run a lot, and even I didn’t know what would come out of it. So I grew up in an animal business. We had a small pet shop in the basement with 100breeder tanks, and small animals to supply the pet shops. We had a farm with 50 head of horses etc. when work was done for evening my mouth would take over. So mom taught me how to knit. It works well I’m 62 now and it’s still working. Some. What. Luv you and thanks bunches
That's a lovely story! My mom taught me to knit during summer break before kindergarten, so i was five. It was to keep me busy and keep me out of her hair. She was finishing up her bachelor's degree in anthropology, and with three kids at home she was so busy. I'm so thankful now! I can't even imagine how many hours of happiness it has given me over the years, not to mention all the beautiful stuff I have made just because my mom needed to keep me busy!
Yes yes! That’s it! When I watch all these videos, I’m transported back to elementary school art hour. They didn’t come along NEAR enough often for me but i loved those moments in school. And recess. And the lunchroom ladies. God I miss my childhood and that was so long ago.
I can do everything you do, except dyeing (and I love watching to understand), but my COVID side effect was total burnout on crafts. I usually have a 3 hr commute every day, and that is my knitting, spindle spinning time on the train. Fulltime telework eliminated that, and my home office is in my 'yarn' room. That made me feel overwhelmed with my stash, and after spending 8-10 hrs working (mostly online meetings) in that room, I did not want to spend more time in there! In Nov. I realized I had to set time for creative pursuits, at least 30 min. A day for my self-care and mental balance. Your fiber journey has really been motivating me!
That sounds really challenging. I was really annoyed that I was too sick to knit for about three days. After that I could knit and/or spin, but it took longer for me to feel mentally and physically ready for weaving. I finally have a weaving project going. I hope you get your mojo back.
Hey, Trish! I'm like you in the respect that I watch lots of videos on subjects that I will likely never do - like faceting gemstones, etc., but the processes are fascinating and it's always a good thing to continue learning. Thanks for all the info about these various fleeces. I haven't worked with a fleece in a few years, but it's all coming back. Thanks for keeping me company as I sit here and twist the fringes on my handwoven scarf. You are an inspiration for all things fiber-y.!
UA-cam suggested you to me, probably because ive been watching yarn videos. Surprisingly all the channels i find are crochet folks, and i havent mastered that, but after a roughly 10yr hiatus have delved back into knitting and have been cranking out projects. Anywho ive actually always wanted to attempt weaving and lusted after inkle loom when i did civil war reenactments as a teen/adult while living in chicagoland. Moved to texas and that just isnt a thing here. I hadnt thought much of weaving since but im seriously considering a loom now after watching you! Had a gangbsuter month of expenses (car repairs, er bill, wisdom teeth for 2 kids, legal expenses… etc) so itll have to wait a minute, but im already shopping around. So thanks for enabling me :P

This craft we do, whichever one brings us joy, fills our days with excitement and self worth for accomplishing it. We are makers, and we love the communities that give us support and knowledge.XO
You're right! I do love crafting, and I have even noticed that I like to make my environment pretty in almost any way I can. I'm not sure what drives it, but I think it's the same part of my personality. I hope you have had time to spend being creative lately!
In the UK we’d sometimes call that sort of livestock open day/comp etc as a Country Show, or just have the name of the area and ending ‘show’. Our local annual one is called The Black Isle Show. 😀
That makes sense. At county and state fairs, we also have tons of unhealthy food, events where you can enter food and produce for judging and carnival rides. Sometimes even concerts in the evenings and other events. It's just hard to describe.

I have to tell you how much I enjoy your videos and your joyful attitude. And you are fun to watch! Some people take themselves too seriously, but you make me smile. I love your unboxing videos. Thanks for sharing! I think its awesome that you bought a 4-H fleece and it's merino! You gave someone a thrill for sure wanting their fleece. I have to say thanks for your show. It has helped make this COVID19 thing easier, giving me something to look forward to. Its always fun to see what you're up to.

It's nice to have that background and support! I think art introduction really young makes it easier to learn everything you might want to try in the future.
I have not even watched the video, but the alert that you just posted popped up while I was trying to make myself read the newspaper, and I burst out laughing at it's title; I know exactly what you mean! In the past month I have bought some Jacob fleece from an ewe named Jasmine, and from a different farm some California Red, sounds like wine also nearby. (I have only bought fleece one other time). I too am putting the blame on lock down and supporting local businesses, both being no more than 50 miles away, and both are women owned.
Thanks for all the positive energy! You are also helping me get thru quarantine! My fiber journey started with rug hooking 13 years ago but then I got cold and needed a shawl so I learned to knit. I subbed to KC for 3 months over a year ago and was less than thrilled. At least I gave it an honest try. I think they may be more oriented to newbies, not that there is anything wrong with that. Down breeds make wonderful socks, that BL/BFL is gorgeous, the merino is going to be wonderful to work with, and I can't wait to see all that Jacob spread out. You did good fleece-wise!

Lol!! I was thinking about all the space u made cleaning up, now is a home for the new fiber. I been spindle spinning some small 1 to2 oz batts I found. Ordered a big Turkish spindle to make it easier to ply my spindle spins together. U found some great buys on fiber! I agree that Jacob is a wonderful fiber to spin with. I’m working with Cosmo fiber at the moment it’s been a interesting learning experience. 🐑
I have to wash and prep it before it gets to go into that space, so hopefully by then there will be an even bigger space because of all the spinning I'll get done 😜😂
Fiber Love Diary I agree on your statement about knit crate. They been slipping in the quality of there boxes. To me it seems they changed there audience to a different group of crafters, or there under different management.
i've just started my own spinning and fleece collecting journey and i'm so glad for your videos!! they've been super helpful in figuring out how to go about cleaning all the fleeces from my sheep
Usually we can't buy fleeces there, only animals. We have fiber festivals for buying the fleeces. None of those this year either. Oh well. Good thing I've been stocking up for the last 12 years 😂
I only bought 3 fleeces. 😆. And some miscellaneous dyed fiber... And some indie yarn. And a subscription. And a spindle... well, a set of them. And a used drum carder. 🤦🏻♀️. I have a problem lol
I crochet and I’m beginning to spin, but everything you do is so magical. I also love your personality, you are so much fun to watch. Thank you so much for what you do ☺️
Hi!🙋♀️ Im Nikky! Lol i may have fan girled for a minute! Lmao! I have always loved watching people create. Its like when they sharing apart of their process, they are sharing a part of their creative soul. Is that weird? I feel like that sounds weird. Lol!
It doesn't sound weird to me at all. It's totally true too. That's probably why it's hard to share what you make with the world, because you're sharing a little piece of your soul.
@@FiberLoveDiary exactly! Makes perfect sense! Im always so nervous when someone buys yarn from me. Like its a direct comparison to myself as a person or something. 🤦♀️🤣
My birthday wasn’t great either. (Although some family visited which was wonderful). We had exciting plans to celebrate that had to be canceled (like going to New York 😳) I turned 50! Yikes. So instead my husband let me buy a Ashford Espinner. With my health I couldn’t do a traditional wheel Iike I would have loved to buy. I wish you would have mentioned prices. I don’t know what a good price is for fiber. 🧐 I love to bargain shop too! 😀 I’m loving your channel and your personality. 🤗 I have a channel too but I don’t put out many vlogs due to my health. I love the Yarny community SO much!
What a sweet ending, thank you Trish, you have definitely helped me get through this with your videos. I would very much like to learn more about online fleece purchases. I have done a little of this and been very pleased ( it would be hard for me to not be happy with any raw fleece!). I really want to use fibers that I feel good about, you know? My crafting materials are the first step in creating and they are key to what I will create. I natural dye mostly which happens in summer, I need to get going on this! I am dyeing warp yarns this year, Rey exciting stuff. Wishing you good health and fiber joy 💕🙏
I haven't been very successful with my natural dyeing attempts, but I haven't given up. Thank you so much! I was thinking maybe I might do a full video on questions I ask, and what I look for when buying a fleece I can't look at in person.
Me... totally me. I love watching your channel but will never work with wool (I am allergic) I upcycle items from feed bags, broken glass and China and use left over yarn to make pom pom blankets.
I will try to be a little more explicit in each video, but I buy them from all different places, all the time, so i try to just mention it in the videos. Sorry!
I watch a little bit of everything then try my hand at it to see if it brings me peace and add it to my arsenal of things I do. Spinning and dyeing are what I'm attempting now which is how I foubd your channel. I havent bought much because we recently moved and im trying to finish the unpacking but im burnt out.
Moving would burn anyone out! I'm sure when you get settled and unpacked you will be able to get into the groove! I never try to push creating stuff. It usually doesn't look as good to me if I force it. 💚
I love what you bought! I don’t get raw fleeces myself, i don’t feel like I have the time or patience to deal with them but I can’t wait to see what you do with them 😀
I love every step of the process, but I really think everybody should focus on only the steps they love if they can help it. Washing and carding and all that is definitely not for everybody! I can't wait to see what I do with them either, because I honestly have no idea right now
I knit and sew. That’s it. But everything you do is so cool and I wish I knew how! Its just so lovely to join you. So thank you! Also do you ever sell the fiber you dye and spin?
All the fiber purchases were from tenneysfiberfarm.com (but straight from their Facebook group. The BL/BFL fleece was purchased from Basking Meadow Farm. They don't have a website, but they have a FB page. The other two boxes of fleece were purchased from farms that don't have websites at this time on the FB group called Raw Wool for Sale. Hope it helps!
My favorite COVID purchase is my Ashford Kiwi 3 (and of course all of the fiber and tools over the following few months!) And just yesterday I bought a Leclerc Bergere Rigid Heddle loom from someone downsizing, now to watch some videos to figure out how to get going!!
I have been watching a bunch of your videos and I was wondering what you look for when buying a fleece- I am sure there are different criteria for fine wool, med, long wools. Like what is the difference between yarn made with a moderate amount of crimp vs a lot of crimp, for example.
Woo, that is a really big question! There are so many variables like the fleece itself, how you prep it, how you spin it, and a ton more. I have thought about doing a video or maybe even a series about this, but the topic is so huge I haven't really figured out how to tackle it. I will think more about it and see what I can come up with!
I haven't gotten through all your videos but have you done ones on washing and prepping fiber? I've never taken it from raw to processed so I don't know a ton about it.
I think I did a washing video wayyyyy back. But I've recently changed my method a little bit based on the method of a friend who seemed to get better results. I thought I might redo with one of these fleeces, because I think it's doing a better job. Are you going to try it??
Lol so funny I canceled my membership about 3 months ago. There customer service is real bad. They would tell ya anything to get you off the phone. I was catching them telling stories. They where missing up bad.
I wasn't impressed. I don't think just because you write something in a little brochure, it is necessarily true. I think you probably know what I mean.
"Guys, sheep live outside..." Right? Just, pick it out. It's really not that hard. I feel you on the birthday front. My kiddo turned 5 this past week but no real party. :/ And mine's next month and I'm pretty sure that the fireworks are going to be less in the sky and more on the ground.
Aww, I definitely feel for all the kids who had birthdays during lockdown. It's much harder on a kid. We are hoping to catch up on at least one of the three birthdays we had in our family on Fathers' Day when we're together 💜
Maybe the two needles. I really don't know. I have bought needles and everything and then they lay on the table until I take them back to the store. Lol. And I am very much a product crocheter. And I do big projects So it's not about the size of the project I'm wondering if it's because knitting takes so long it's very time-consuming it's very small compared to crochet. Lol. I hope that made a little bit of sense.
So ive been watching sheepishly me channel awhile now and sandi has to PAY to get rid of her wool as she grows for meat and nobody wants wool anymore. She has been trying to find a place to card it (i think she finally did) and considering insulating walls with the wool. Not sure of breed quality but i bet she would gladly sell you wool for shipping costs. She wants to see it be used. Worth a shot checking out her channel!

It's happening! I've sort of started working on a series that will include this info. I hope it helps you!
I'm so glad!
In england we call them shows like the great Yorkshire show I was hoping to go this year and buy some fleeces and now we cant I'm gutted x
Honestly I think there is no problem here at all. 😂😜
I crochet and I’m beginning to spin, but everything you do is so magical. I also love your personality, you are so much fun to watch. Thank you so much for what you do ☺️
Aw, Brenda! That is really nice, and I sure appreciate it. It's exciting that you're learning to spin.
Did you end up processing all 15+ lbs of that giant merino fleece? That's so much fiber!
Hello, I just found you and binge watched all day yesterday!! So excited, I like everything you do!
Aww, that is great, thank you! I hope you found some stuff inspiring and/or helpful to you!
Thank you for sharing your scores! I am looking forward to seeing how those Jacobs work up.
Thanks for watchiing! It's finally cooled down enough here for me to unroll those fellas and really get a good look at what I have.
You have totally enabled me I purchased a loom last night I can’t wait for it to arrive!!!
Holy cow! All you new weavers appearing! Congratulations!
I have everything needed to dye some yarn but not the health to do it yet, lol. So many things I want to try! 😬 I’m a ambitious sick person. 😂
I'm not sure where you're located, but I bet you could team up and dye with someone!
Congratulations! I hope they are helpful as you start your weaving journey!
Me... totally me. I love watching your channel but will never work with wool (I am allergic) I upcycle items from feed bags, broken glass and China and use left over yarn to make pom pom blankets.
can you make a video of where you get all your fleeces online?? Oh and that was a great unboxing video. :)
That's a lot! I'm glad to have you hear. I have never been brave enough to sell anything I made, but I think that''s changing soon.
Thanks for sharing loved this video x
Thanks for watching!
I've just washed a polwarth merino cross and it's so nice I'm going to make myself a jumper with it x
💗💗💗 That was awesome! Would you perhaps share contact info for your fiber and fleece purchases?
Exciting!! I have been restraining myself just lately even though I really don't want to. I have a lot of stuff to use first ;)
I have been watching a bunch of your videos and I was wondering what you look for when buying a fleece- I am sure there are different criteria for fine wool, med, long wools.
I do some dyeing for gun love your ones ❤❤
I haven't gotten through all your videos but have you done ones on washing and prepping fiber? I've never taken it from raw to processed so I don't know a ton about it.
I think I did a washing video wayyyyy back. But I've recently changed my method a little bit based on the method of a friend who seemed to get better results. I thought I might redo with one of these fleeces, because I think it's doing a better job. Are you going to try it??
How do you wash your fleece please ?
Can I ask what I can do with sari silk fibres for my junk journals ? Any ideas xx
I don't really know that much about junk journals, so I'm not sure I can help that much. Sorry!
We are hoping to catch up on at least one of the three birthdays we had in our family on Fathers' Day when we're together 💜
great video!! Do you know if the sari silk was a batt?
It seems to be just crammed in the bag as fluff if that makes sense. I don't think it's roving or a batt.
@@FiberLoveDiary oh, ok. I was just wondering about it because I looked at their website and it only had sari silk batts.
I would love to learn how to knit it just totally freaks me out.
What part freaks you out? I always tell people that six year old pioneer children had to make their own socks, so if they could do it, you can too!
Thank you so much! I really will contact her and have a chat.
I agree not everyone wants to dye there own yarn and I'm sorry but people pay quite a bit for knit crate and get nothing really in my eyes x
I really don't like to ever say anything negative, but I also always feel that I have to be honest. This was the nicest I could be 😂
I do watch but I spin and weave other things I watch are things I do already those I don't I am trying to learn but sometimes I do just like to watch I have a frugal blog that keeps me busy too www.frugalmeasures.blogspot.com you can spy looms and wheel my sis gave me and I am gardening this time of the yr so I do feel busy plu it is way hot this week in iowa
I'm gardening too! Finally my garden is actually starting to grow.
