This was SUPER interesting to watch. My MIL has a bunch of un processed fleeces but I have never been around to watch her skirt one. Now I’m gonna have to see if she’ll let me help her do one. So glad to be part of your fiber tribe!
Wow...what a first process. I will have to pull these videos together to understand the full process from unboxing, cleaning, drying, spinning. Thanks is again. Leandra💕
I know what you mean! When I first started, I thought I would ever want to wash and process my own, but now it's fun for me. It's nice that you can pay someone if you don't enjoy it though 😜
Hi Trish, this is the furst time ive seen anyone skirting a fleece. I'm so glad you showed us this process . Love the colours of it. Your pool looks si inviting . Take care & stay safe. Lots of love Jen 💘 xx
I love watching different methods of skirting. I need to get more meticulous. I end up trying to save way too much and regret it later. Also, I had what looked like sawdust in a bag of fleece. Turned out to be moth excrement! Yikes. I tossed the entire thing. I've had to toss a fiber stash once, now I'm super careful about it. Thanks for your videos!
Watching this makes me feel better about what I removed from a Polled Dorset fleece recently. I actually didn't remove that much, but it felt like a lot. Thank you for showing and sharing the process.
The last time I processed a fleece, I cold processed it using purloined soda ash from our pool supplies. I was amazed at how nicely it fluffed, with just cold rinses and air drying. The first time I processed one, I spun it out using the spin cycle on the washing machine. It totally clogged the main and I am no longer allowed to use the washing machine to process my wool! Ha, ha!
I actually just enjoy every step of the process, so it's fine. To me, it's actually fun. I just know it's not for everyone, and everybody should feel okay about doing the parts they love, and outsourcing the parts they don't 💜💚
I know it's weird, but it's fun to me. It didn't necessarily start out that way. I really started to learn about it all, but I ended up liking it. If you don't, you can always send it to a mill!
Thanks for showing this part of the process...who knew there is so much involved in spinning! BTW....hopefully you can give a well accepted critique to the seller if she is going to continue selling.
I thought I might just ask her if she wanted feedback. I'm fine with keeping it to myself, because I totally know I am taking a risk if I buy this way, but if she wants to sell regularly it might help her.
A friend gave me some very dirty fleeces that she had in storage for years and she was moving again. Its amazing sometimes how a seemingly questionable fleece turns into beautiful clean wool and then yarn. I hope you can share what else you do to these Jocob fleeces.
I'll be sharing! I have also had some gross fleeces, and it has really taught me what I have patience for, and what I don't. It's such a great learning process though!
I have put my cardigan sweater on a little pause so I can knit some socks. I love knitting socks so I just needed to get a few pairs of socks in. Then back to finish my cardigan then start one for my husband. Since I just ask him what he wants for his anniversary gift and he said a pair of socks and a cardigan. So I have until the end of september.
I am so totally jealous of your outdoor shower! I tried to think of a way to hook a hose up to the kitchen faucet so I didn’t have to shuffle hot water out to deck. Water is so heavy (8.33 lbs./gallon).
The people that lived in our house before set up the backyard so nicely, but it is a lot to take care of sometimes. We even use it as a dog washing station when it's warm enough. I used to heat water with a turkey fryer 😂
It's really just practice, and it's a lot easier on a fleece that just came off the sheep. These are all disorganized before I even get them on the table.
@@FiberLoveDiary Well their are some second cuts and VM in it but other than that it won't be that bad. Here is where I got the fleece if you want to check out , maggiesfarminc.com/products/.
I have cleaned two fleeces, but was not confident of what I was doing. I since found a local mill, and they do a fabulous job cleaning and carding. This part is not where I get my joy, probably mostly due to lack of time. With the magic of speedy film we lose sight of how long this first step took you. So how long did it take you to skirt all 3?
I really should have said that it's not for everybody to do this kind of processing. I really believe that everybody should be able to skip all the parts they don't enjoy in a hobby. But I said the exact same things once. 😂
I really want people watching who might be inspired to try a new area of processing to see that they don't need all kind of specialized stuff to try. But i don't have one.
i just got a box with two fleeces in the mail today, and i was using that as an incentive to get some stuff done around my house. then i watched your video, so now i'm going to neglect the stuff i planned to do around my house so i can go play with my fleeces. so, basically... it's your fault that my place is a mess.
Well, i make these videos so people like me can be inspired and empowered so you're kind of the reason my house is a wee bit messy too. Let's hug it out!

I'm glad you're here! Don't forget your gloves hahaha

Thanks for your videos!
I call my method ruthless 🤣.
A lot of work goes into cleaning the fleece....I thank you for doing this !!!! Always learning from your videos
Everyone can be either a good example or a horrible warning. I think I'm so talented to be both at once 😂
I really enjoy watching your videos. I learn so much from each one. Thank you so much for teaching me about processing and spinning fiber ☺️
You are so welcome!
Well deserved pool time. Hope your enjoying that fleece looks like a ton of work
It's only work if you don't like it, and I like it so it's okay!

That's funny because this year our pH was a bit high, so I stole soda ash from my dyeing supplies to take care of that. It was worth it!
I really enjoy watching you process the fiber! Can't wait to see you finish processing.
Definitely a good buy. I wouldn't care about the skirting. After cloth diapers, nothing is a big deal.
I actually just enjoy every step of the process, so it's fine. To me, it's actually fun. I just know it's not for everyone, and everybody should feel okay about doing the parts they love, and outsourcing the parts they don't 💜💚
Someone gave me a fleece that I started to prep. So much work, but now I have a better idea of what I am looking at.
I know it's weird, but it's fun to me. It didn't necessarily start out that way. I really started to learn about it all, but I ended up liking it. If you don't, you can always send it to a mill!

I can’t wait to see the carding and spinning!
It'll be a minute, but it's coming!
HI I have been enjoying your videos and learning much. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Hope to see on Wednesday at Steph's.

You're busy! It feels good to be asked for knitted stuff doesn't it? I love that.
@@FiberLoveDiary yes it does my husband loves me knitting for him. And he is very proud to show it off.

Upping my skirting game is definitely something I need to work on
It's really just practice, and it's a lot easier on a fleece that just came off the sheep. These are all disorganized before I even get them on the table.
A person I work with gifted me two huge trash bags full of raw fleece. I have no clue what to do with them! Thank you for this video.
I hope it helps!
I don’t think I could do that, but glad you are happy with what you got.
I used to feel that way, so i get it. I think everybody should feel good about doing the parts they enjoy and outsourcing all the parts they don't!
I’m making sure to be at my in-laws for this years shearing!!!!!!
I was so happy about this video because I have some raw fleece I need to process! So thanks Trish!!
Hopefully yours is already skirted!

A LOT of work, but still and all, for $30….That was a good purchase! And beautiful color….
I agree u get a good buy on the fleeces. Had fun watching u do all the smelly work, lol.
I love watching other people do the hot, smelly work too! Maybe next time I'll try it that way 😂

Good video. I always learn something new.
Glad to hear it!
This is cool to watch but I don’t think I could do this😂❤️

Are we going to get to learn to wash Jacob as well? Hope so, I love your videos.
Yes! It will be here!
I didn’t realize how much work it was to get wool to knit with.
I just love this part, so I do it myself, but you can always get it all from a mill, right?
Super interesting
Why didn’t you use a skirting table? Just wondering... I like to “spank” fleece on my skirting table to knock out second cuts, VM and poo.
I really want people watching who might be inspired to try a new area of processing to see that they don't need all kind of specialized stuff to try. But i don't have one.

You sure that sawdust? Moth eggs look like that.
Pretty sure. There were bigger wood shavings in the box and it smelled like sawdust. I'm not worried at all.
