@@rjstar809 No shes not and she can easily be replaced and I'm saying this as an Arya fan. People like Tyrion, Jon, Ned, and Daenerys made the show what it is now. Everyone else is easily replaceable
Imagine if the show just happened to not do so well in the ratings when it started. GoT would be stuck paying actors like him the high salary and end up being forced to cancel.
He said that he would want to be on the show now, but strictly because because his friend Ian McShane must have gotten paid a lot, not the quality or star power of the show. That's not stating your worth, that's being a diva
Having a role on GoT would look good on any actor's resume. Not everyone who takes a job on TV is going to be a mega fan. Some actors take jobs because they love a show, some take it because they know it'll be good for their career. Who cares, as long as they put on a good performance? Why is everyone acting as if wanting to get paid is somehow inherently bad?
It's obviously not "wrong" to want to get paid for doing his job, that's how employment works lol... it's just kind of dickish for money to be the *only* factor swaying his decisions. The quote was out of context, but by the way it was presented, his tone seemed pretty demanding (especially when D&D don't need him and probably don't care that much).
I'm so happy that those actors/actresses turned down the parts they were offered initially! The ones who ended up on the show are the best and I can't imagine anyone could do their part any better! Everything turned out just perfect!
i mean honestly we’d all be saying the same about Emilia because we are used to her lol. It’s like asking for a replacement as a family member we don’t know what could’ve happen. With a different actor the show just might’ve been cancelled by now haha
Can you imagine the gut wrenching feeling Tamzin Merchant feels everytime she sees Emilia Clarke ride on back of Drogon? She has probably got to be the most regretful out of everyone due to Daenerys being such a power house on the show and basically a world-wide icon. That would have been not only a career but a life changing role for her. Would have been a totally different show though with Tamzin as Daenerys. I could picture her playing Dany in season 1 but after that when it requires the actor to portray strength, i can't really see it, it would have been a totally different show with her as Daenerys.
Tamzin in The Tudors did really portrayed the character with pure innocence which I felt what George saw as a young naive Dany. Plus seeing her in Salem made me think she can actually transform to a Dany as a powerful leader eventually. She would’ve nailed it.
Fun Guy Sean Bean is haggard af lol. Besides wasn't Cat suppose to be a bit older? She was supposed to marry his older brother before he was killed. It was a political marriage between two houses but they really made it work.
She could have played cersei and you would still symphatize with her. I think emilia clarke's aura is the reason why people are having trouble accepting daenerys "suddenly" becoming the mad queen in the series finale when daenerys had been steadily walking that path since the day she killed drogo.
@@realitybites629 I think more people would accept her as the "mad queen" if the change wasn't so drastic and rushed. The thing about Dany was she was rushless toward her enemies, but not innocents. But you do have a point. Another thing is, Emilia was never told of her characters dark turn until the last minute. She originally played Dany as a strong virtuous leader, and there was never any indication that the audience wasn't meant to interpret her that way until season 8. Knowing that her character was meant to eventually go crazy, I kind of wish they'd cast Merchant. She has more of a crazy, creepy, inbred look whereas Emilia has an innocent ethereal beauty.
@@Tuffaluffskee to be honest, i dont really see daenerys turning into a mad queen like aerys II as most people do. Aerys II turned mad and wanted to burn his own people so he can turn into a dragon. Daenerys, at least to my point of view, learned from all the betrayals not to trust anyone anymore but herself and her people that was faithful to her, which were her dothraki and unsullied. She learned the art of war and turned into a real dothraki Warlord. The thing that made her seem mad was the Dragon because it was a weapon of mass destruction. Its Like the atomic bomb that the united states dropped in hiroshima to finally end the war.
The only one of these that I would've been interested in was Gillian Anderson. As a huge X-Files fan, it was hard to see her as anything other than Dana Scully until I watched Hannibal. Would've been cool to see her on GoT.
As a very elderly person I can tell you I too have made so very bad choices .. but never when it came to putting my family first. I deeply respect those who've chosen to care for their loved ones before glorification. And, as for those who chose to be a part of GOT.. good for you!
Emilia is the same as Hugh Jackman, they werent the original actors for their characters, they are both replacement actors for a char the originally casted actors dropped out from. Both Emilia and Hugh became the embodiment of the characters they play.
You may not know him, but Brian is a respected actor with a long career. Key word here: PILOT. Producers usually have little money for pilots (I know because I work in film) and pay everyone involved in those pilots very low salaries, so it's 90% possible that what they wanted to pay Brian was too low and he simply needed to pay his rent. Can you blame the man for having to make a living??? You don't work for free yourself.
doesn't take a lot of googling; ''Scottish actor Brian Cox has an estimated net worth of $8 million.'' don't think he needs any more money to pay his rent !
lol he isn't struggling to pay rent. If you watch interviews of him, he is clearly a self-important pompous snot. He even describes himself as legendary. *eye roll* And as an "actor with a long career" he knows damn well that pilots are just the start-up and not the locked in salary, but he wasn't willing to take the risk because he's too legendary and important to only make $50K for a measly pilot. He's greedy, nothing more.
Kaylasa JaguarStar .... it's funny that you claim to work in films and would even bother to comment on a UA-cam channel. it's even funnier when you said he's gotta "pay his rent". puh-lease! he continuously talked about the pay while the other actors had enough class not to.
I'm nearly 100% sure Alfie Allen said that she wasn't offered the role at all. Lily Allen's the type of person who likes her name in the papers I call bullshit on the GoT producers actually wanting to incorporate real life incest for an inside joke.
Jason and Justine Bateman did a sexually awkward scene on Arrested Development. I'm sure a significant portion of the audience was in on that joke tho. The Allens aren't famous enough for something like that to work
Theon seems like he will screw anything that moves including his ugly sister. Granted he didn't know she was his ugly sister at the time, however the horse faced pig he screwed on the boat ride home backs up my theory. Both of them are chicks you wouldn't want anyone to know you screwed.
It's hard to believe that the hollier than thou High Sparrow star Jonathan Pryce originated the role of the risque pimp "The Engineer" in the West end and Broadway productions of Miss Saigon. He is such a versatile and talented performer.
If anyone could have been replaced it would be Rhaegar. He is described as being beautiful and all Targaryens as ethereal. Jamie Campbell Bower would have been good, especially if they didn't use the same scraggly wig that Viserys used.
The main problem is. Shes not a khaleesi anymore. If she still had that title then fine call her that. (yes she call herself khaleesi of the great grass sea) but legally has no right to the title. Theres also the fact that its the same as saying '998th commander of the nights watch' instead of jon snow. It sound dumb
Eeew no, her character was supposed to be sexy in the books, and that lgbt fanservice they made with her in the last season made me dislike her even more (doesn't happen in the original story either)
Ugh... she's butt ugly though. If his sister in real life wasn't his actual sister but played his sister in the show, it would have been a lot better because they actually look alike and plus it wouldn't be weird for him to touch her since they wouldn't actually be related. Personally I think they could've chosen someone wayyyy better looking than Gemma. That's just my opinion.
+A.A.M. it's not lgbt fanservice. It's more like shifting bisexual scenes from the book to her, if you are refering to the books you should remember both Daenerys ans Cersei had sex scenes with women there. Since they didn't in the show, they made Yara bisexual instead. Her flirting with Daenerys goes along with Daenerys having sec with her handmaiden.
Exactly my takeaway from that. He doesn't want to play a part for the chance to be a part of an amazing TV series but because they can pay more now than they could before.
Ammonia in the grand scheme of things, almost no one is important, although this of course is subject-able to point of view. But we are not that important in all of the universe, it doesn’t matter if you are an actor, a doctor or a scientist. Everyone dies and everyone will be forgotten. Nothing you do now will change that for you or anyone else. It’s the sad truth of our existence.
I really don't see Gillian as the Melisandre. I have a serious issue believing that Scully would be willing to disrobe and push a Stannis-shaped smoke monster out of her whispering eye. Just a hunch...
Gillian would be a GREAT addition to the show, but Im glad she didn't take whatever role she was offered bc everyone is very well cast IMO. Cersei and Melisandra especially! Give Gillian something else :D
Pretty much sums up most well known actors today - they want a massive bag of cash before they grace our screens with their incredible presence. I think GoT is 10x better because pretty much all of them didn't come from the clique big time group - they had to work really hard and give it their all to prove themselves upping their game each season as it kept getting larger audiences. Sophie Turner (Sansa) for example was pretty bad in season 1, a bit wooden but now she seems like a mature grown up actress. Says it all really about these egotistical types on our screens. So glad all the actors are who they are today and not the same old faces appearing again.
Not a big fan of Brian Cox, but in this instance I respect his decision. Of course It's wonderful to see actors who act because it's their passion. For others, it's a pure career choice. If he thought he was going to be underpaid, it's reasonable for him to turn it down. It's also reasonable for GoT producers to choose someone else. The only one I'd like to call BS on is Jonathan Pryce. He seems to have had the same problem as Sean Connery when he was offered a role in the LotR. Was he really fascinated by the High Sparrow's personality or did he change his mind because of the show's popularity? Hmm...
Yea, definitely the popularity. And I am sure Brian Cox acts because he loves the art, but he also has his standards and he knows his worth as an actor. Lets not forget that Game of Thrones, although epic, is still only a TV show, and in the world of Hollywood for a big movie star film actor like Brian Cox, performing on a TV show is considered a step backwards, like a demotion, no matter how popular the show is.
TV shows are getting less and less seen as minor work. With the emergence of those huge TV shows with more impact that any blockbuster more movie actors turn to TV. But yeah got did help a lot with that!
its not about being greedy, imagine yourself in their shoes, they look at so many scripts and pilots that fail and become nothing, they dont really know what success it will have, and making decisions based on other roles they are offered and looking at, some more money, others less money, what might be fun to do, or extend your skill, and sometimes what the role pays can speak to what success it may have, as it speaks to its overall budget, which plays a big part in success in hollywood, not all the time, but most the time.
You're also not a prolific actor who doesn't typically work for scale anymore. Consider it like this... you're someone who makes 100k a year for your job and someone asks you to do it for 25k.... do you stop making 100k a year for that lesser paying job, in the off-chance that it will eventually get back up to what you normally make? Or do you keep doing your job at a rate you have already worked yourself up to? Sure, at this point, he probably has more than enough money to retire completely... but scripts/directors/casting etc have to be pretty compelling to bring higher profile actors on when the budget is very low.
John West IV actors do that all the time. Even working for free at times. Acting is not a salary job. A show that was just starting out ( season 7 is 3 times more expensive than season 1 per episode) is the perfect example of the type of high potential show actors would do that for, and if their agent had any sense.
not if they dont need to, and honestly the pilot apparently was a massive flop, people were fired, things were changed.....its a red flag for anyone that gets consistent work anyway. and John West had a point, regardless of acting being a salary job or not, in ANY work related experience you need to know your value and stand to that value to be successful, and sometimes you might miss opportunities, but your also never short of any, so who cares.....many of these actors have plenty of work and will continue to have it. Plus i like the unknown talent that shines anyway, its good for these peoples careers that took their place, and good for us, we get new personalities in hollywood from things like this.
Justin Jacobs name brand actors are a different breed than 99% of actors. they are most often a strict monetary investment for big budget studio projects. To get the true artistic, experimental roles at that level, which rarely happens, they have to LOVE the material, and most often will have to make a sacrifice (only exceptions being they produce such projects thrmselves or shamelessly whore themselves out ala Channing Tatum for Gambit, Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool). Cox had no love or passion for the material hence no will to take a cut
Actually, according to IMDB, Tamzin was recast by the producers who said that she didn't fit the role. I remember bc George R. R. Martin said she did a good job she just didn't suit the character. So I guess she didn't really drop the role or not want to be on the show
Other than Tamzin Merchant as Khaleesi/ Dany I don't think it has been much of a loss for the Actors, but this one is big and thankfully otherwise the world wouldn't have found the hidden gem Emilia Clarke the pint sized beauty.
Emila is good but your comment is pretty insulting to the other cast members and crew who did a brilliant job ! Tywin, Cersei, Joffrey, Tyrion etc they were all great, they carried the show as well
Everyone says how stupid people are to pass on these rolls but it's so hard to tell before it actually hits. We never hear of people who passed on rolls that were so bad they killed careers. It's hit or miss

They had all been fairly well known beforehand because they had spent so many years in cinema already.
rockthestrand like I said in another comment it's a bunch of fucking nobody's that went nowhere with the exception of Brian Cox and Gillian Anderson at least she had a good reason to turn it down
Exactly
In my opinion, Emelia Clark in her GOT costume is the MOST beautiful woman ive ever seen. So perfect.
what about out of it?
Emilia Clarke is Daenarys Targaryen, she was born for that role. I could not imagine anyone else.
I hope she gets killed soon. She's sickening
@@danny2971 I don't like her either (as a character). When she started executing people who didn't bend the knee, she became a bitch in my eyes

Idk who Brian Cox is but he sounds like a nightmare 😅
Marielle Cariño - that’s what I was thinking. All that old buzzard talks about is money. I get that he has bills to pay, but damn.
Brian Cox turned down GOT but acted in a stupid comedies like The Ringer, Pixels and Super Troopers! SMH! Fool!
Money is
He would have been good in thrones.fab actor
He would've played a fantastic Old Bear Mormont.
I'm glad they made good actors instead of just using people who are over confident and not as good of actors as they think lol

Couldn't imagine anyone else in most of the major roles. Emily Clarke and Lena Headey in particular. Both were alluring and mercurial and wonderful.
The people who refused this opportunity made the biggest mistake of their life
Just saying
No...they did not want to have any ´potential suspect actors´near themselves...
Maybe not, maybe if they took the role they migth fooked up the whole show and then got wouldn't be the success is now, instead of getting all the money and fame.

True, especially those that were struggling to stand on their feet in the industry.

Cersei, Dany & Jon Snow is the trinity main character to the show in my opinion. whoever rejected it early on, big mistake.
And Tyrion

blurdreamer Jon, Daenerys, Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion were the protagonists and also had the biggest salaries.
@@rjstar809 No shes not and she can easily be replaced and I'm saying this as an Arya fan. People like Tyrion, Jon, Ned, and Daenerys made the show what it is now. Everyone else is easily replaceable
Glad the role went to Emilia
I am soooo glad Tamzin Merchant did NOT take the role!!
But *Johny Karibou* did NOT like Emilia Clarke for the role.
Saitama you can't deny that iconic face of hers .
Me too, she was good in the Tudors, but too skinny for Danearys. Emilia is a real woman, curvy & tiny ! She's only 5'2"!
If she was cast you'd be saying the same thing about Emillia. It's all about conditioning.
Saaame. I hated her in the Tudors. -_-
So it seems Brian Cox is just a cash grabber
He's a highly established actor. There's nothing inherently wrong with asking for what you think you're worth. That's just part of the business.
I don't think they're gonna want him if he's still talking money first
Bet they regret refusing so much now.. I ain't sorry for them tho
Not of all them refused by money or bitching issues. Some just take responsability for the family case.
I can’t imagine any other person for any of these characters. They all fit so well, especially Kalisee. 🐉
Tamzin in The Tudors did really portrayed the character with pure innocence which I felt what George saw as a young naive Dany. Plus seeing her in Salem made me think she can actually transform to a Dany as a powerful leader eventually. She would’ve nailed it.
I could imagine any of the characters being played as someone else EXCEPT for Daenerys. Emilia was made for that role
Are you nuts? Tyrion?

thanks god that actress didn't play Daenerys
She is a pretty good actress, but i agree for some reason i can not believe that Merchant would be able to pull of those grand speeches.
Emilia Clarke is horrible at this role since S2/3
Don't know the originally planned actress but chances are high she could act better than Clarke.
Lol idiots and clitriders Emilia Clarke is fucking terrible at the role
Emilia is the best
Emilia is gorgeous and plays the part perfectly. Tamzin looks like a friggin alien.
To be fair, I love the actress who eventually played Catelyn, but the original one looked more like the books described.
Lambeflores A 12 year old?
she's not 12 in the books.
The one that was cast always looked like Sean Bean's mother more than his wife.
Fun Guy Sean Bean is haggard af lol. Besides wasn't Cat suppose to be a bit older? She was supposed to marry his older brother before he was killed. It was a political marriage between two houses but they really made it work.
Lambeflores Nah the Catlyn they picked is trash. She sounds like a gutter wench who chain smokes daily.
Honestly, Emilia has an air of innocence and strength no other actress could have had 😂
Jamie Campbell... 😍😍😍
I think any sister would have refused to play Yara with her real brother lily did right
Her brother said she was lying...I kinda think he's right.
She lied tho LOL
she's full of sh!t.
Actual brother and sister playing brother and sister in a incestuos scene? How sick is that???!!! Even for GoT, LoL
Kafka Moore oh, ok, what a relief
Lily the Liar
Yeah she talks a lot of shit.
I still don't get what's actually wrong with Incest when there isn't any reproduction.
Bruce Wayne incest is fucking nasty
Let's call it destiny
The cast is good as it is :)
Emilia is the same as Hugh Jackman, they werent the original actors for their characters, they are both replacement actors for a char the originally casted actors dropped out from.
Both Emilia and Hugh became the embodiment of the characters they play.
Hmm, suddenly I'm not such a fan of Brian Cox.
Meh, I don't even who he is, but that is just actors being actors.
You don't work for free yourself.
doesn't take a lot of googling; ''Scottish actor Brian Cox has an estimated net worth of $8 million.''
don't think he needs any more money to pay his rent !
lol he isn't struggling to pay rent.
Yara greyjoy actress is prefect - keep lilly out.
I'm nearly 100% sure Alfie Allen said that she wasn't offered the role at all. Lily Allen's the type of person who likes her name in the papers I call bullshit on the GoT producers actually wanting to incorporate real life incest for an inside joke.
"keep Lily Allen out" .... of everything!
Jason and Justine Bateman did a sexually awkward scene on Arrested Development. I'm sure a significant portion of the audience was in on that joke tho. The Allens aren't famous enough for something like that to work
A pop singer casting on GoT? LOL, doubt it.
No one could replace Emilia Clarke. She is the mother of dragons.
Thank God Tamzin passed it up cause I dont think I would love Dany as much cause emilia is so much more attractive!
Would have loved to see Jennifer Ehle as Catelyn Stark. She still has an amazing career and just got another Tony nom this year.
i'm so glad Emilia got the part of GOT, she was very suitable to play Daenerys, Khaleesi and Mother of Dragons.
Love u so much Emilia!!
I’m so glad Emilia was cast and the other person left! She’s stunning and so serene as Dany ❤️ same with Cat, so glad no one else did that role.
If anyone could have been replaced it would be Rhaegar. He is described as being beautiful and all Targaryens as ethereal. Jamie Campbell Bower would have been good, especially if they didn't use the same scraggly wig that Viserys used.
I'm happy Emilia got the job. she is perfect for khaleesi.
HER NAME IS DAENERYS TARGARYEN!
miralas hush up.
Even if she was still a Khaleesi it still wouldn't be her name. If you are going to use Khaleesi to refer to her then say the Khaleesi.
who the fuck cares its a fictional character
Gemma Whelan is amazing as Yara/Asha
viberunner ew, she's too fugly for my taste
Eeew no, her character was supposed to be sexy in the books, and that lgbt fanservice they made with her in the last season made me dislike her even more (doesn't happen in the original story either)
Ugh... she's butt ugly though. If his sister in real life wasn't his actual sister but played his sister in the show, it would have been a lot better because they actually look alike and plus it wouldn't be weird for him to touch her since they wouldn't actually be related. Personally I think they could've chosen someone wayyyy better looking than Gemma. That's just my opinion.
unimportantFact she is too white
+A.A.M. it's not lgbt fanservice.
These actor's are fantastic no others would have been good enough. I've loved every minute.
So all Brian Cox cares about is the pay-day. If you have lots of money, I will be there
noveltybobel loool so true!
Exactly my takeaway from that. He doesn't want to play a part for the chance to be a part of an amazing TV series but because they can pay more now than they could before.
Brian Cox is a greedy cunt.
I agree with everyone's comments here!
The shear boldness of Brian Cox-SUCKER to say that GoT couldn't pay him enough $$ is just a bitch thing to say.
I can't be absolutely mad about Dominic West and Gillian Anderson's family stuff but... GODDAMN MCNULTY AND SCULLY.
I really don't see Gillian as the Melisandre. I have a serious issue believing that Scully would be willing to disrobe and push a Stannis-shaped smoke monster out of her whispering eye.
Just a hunch...
Im so happy she got nowhere near that part. You just get the feeling she would of made problems for them in the background
ZeroSum23. I agree. People are not usually hired for their hair color anyway. Half the women on GoT wear wigs. I could see Gillian as Cersei though.
Agreed Melisandre is supposed to be massive and Gillian is tiny in person.
Gillian would be a GREAT addition to the show, but Im glad she didn't take whatever role she was offered bc everyone is very well cast IMO.
Cersei and Melisandra especially!
Give Gillian something else :D
Emilia Clarke is way too gorgeous and perfect 😍😍😍 thank God she played Daenerys.
Tamzin Merchant was fabulous on Salem
Halsey Robert she is too white, it's white privilege!
Lemon Cheesecake2 Most stupid shit I've read today..

So glad our 🐲Queen is Emilia Clarke &
Carice van Houten as Melisandre-Red Priestess
Lily Allen's "supposed" response just killed me 😂
It seemed to have happened the way it needed to happen. I'm satisfied with the end casting.
Lets not forget that Game of Thrones, although epic, is still only a TV show, and in the world of Hollywood for a big movie star film actor like Brian Cox, performing on a TV show is considered a step backwards, like a demotion, no matter how popular the show is.
and it is known that the pilor was a mess
i wish we get to see it one day 😂
TV shows are getting less and less seen as minor work. With the emergence of those huge TV shows with more impact that any blockbuster more movie actors turn to TV. But yeah got did help a lot with that!
He wouldn't be "underpaid" though, because even for the first season, it would be really good pay for an actor or indeed for any job.
I'm glad somebody turned down the role of Dany.. Emilia Clarke was perfect for it! 😁😍😍
Shane Oyeah, she didn’t turn it down, she was forced to leave becuase she was thought not good enough.....
I'd pay GOT to let me be on the show that actor who was so greedy doesn't deserve to be in a show like GOT
its not about being greedy, imagine yourself in their shoes, they look at so many scripts and pilots that fail and become nothing, they dont really know what success it will have, and making decisions based on other roles they are offered and looking at, some more money, others less money, what might be fun to do, or extend your skill, and sometimes what the role pays can speak to what success it may have, as it speaks to its overall budget, which plays a big part in success in hollywood, not all the time, but most the time.
Cox had no love or passion for the material hence no will to take a cut
thank God ,emilia took that role ..she does it well more than any other person
Actually, according to IMDB, Tamzin was recast by the producers who said that she didn't fit the role. I remember bc George R. R. Martin said she did a good job she just didn't suit the character. So I guess she didn't really drop the role or not want to be on the show
Other than Tamzin Merchant as Khaleesi/ Dany I don't think it has been much of a loss for the Actors, but this one is big and thankfully otherwise the world wouldn't have found the hidden gem Emilia Clarke the pint sized beauty.
In a parallel world GOT has all these different actors. 😂
Brian cox sounds like a guy that dosn't want to do anything unless he gets shit tons of money from it
MrMastrmonstr most actors and actress are like that. If I got the opportunity I wouldn't turn it down to be fair and I'm trying to be an actor
He deserves it. I'd say most of the actors on the show suck ass. His performances would raise the bar for these actors.
in short: Greedy bastard.
No complaints, especially Gillian Anderson and Lily Allen. Everything worked out for the better...
Im glad Clark got it!! :) She's perfect for Daenarys!
If it wasn't Emilia Clarke, I don't think it would get such a rating anyway.
Emila is good but your comment is pretty insulting to the other cast members and crew who did a brilliant job ! Tywin, Cersei, Joffrey, Tyrion etc they were all great, they carried the show as well
@Marie ᶘ oᴥoᶅ yeah i agree with you, i heard that she's tall and slender with violet eyes in the books which doesn't look like Emilia at all.

Emilia Clarke is the only one who could play Dany imo.
Everyone says how stupid people are to pass on these rolls but it's so hard to tell before it actually hits.
We never hear of people who passed on rolls that were so bad they killed careers. It's hit or miss
Roles not rolls.
Thank goodness the Tuder girl didn't play Dani, it wouldn't have been the same without Clarke.
I think Emilia is the most suitable actress for Daenarys ♥️
Tamzin Merchant didn't refuse the role -- she was replaced because the pilot was poorly received in an early screening.
I would have loved to see Ian McShane more in GOT. I love his acting.
The part of Daenerys was made for Emilia Clarke.
I love that brian Cox was like "I'm a complete addict now" he is so into the show and admits it.
