In the second half that penalty that was called on the Falcons after back-to-back sacks really changed the momentum of the game

That was a terrible call but it was also terrible by the Falcons entire defensive operation having anyone chip anybody in that situation on 3rd and 22 to give the refs any excuse to keep the Commanders in the game. But above all someone on my TL earlier said it best: In a must win game , with limited snaps during the season , the Falcons gave meaningful snaps to Chris Blair and Deangelo Malone . Blair- Runs the wrong route , Penix Int Malone- Key 3rd and 22 , holding penalty

@@stickdorsey6051 THat's why Im not blaming the refs. This game was lost by Falcons coaches. They robbed Falcons fans and Penix Jr of an opportunity of a lifetime of a rookie QB making a playoff run. He had all the ingredients to make one because of his experience and lack of tape other teams have on him. The player who got that penalty barely played all year and was inexcusably in the game on 3rd and 22.

@@truthbearer7891 Wow thanks you dropped some knowledge on me there, another surprising layer to this Atlanta loss in what seemed in every way to be an achievable win - especially on Atlanta's final drive of regulation.
Both teams showed excellent effort, both teams have positional talent that is utilized well (although advantage ATL when it comes to total talent score) and both teams fought hard and overcame adversity to give themselves a chance.
I think the difference was in these little details that seemingly speak to a poor job of oversight by management and coaching. Certainly the clock management by Raheem Morris and his team has been brought up in the aftermath.
I would also mention one thing from the Washington side, at halftime they made a defensive adjustment where they moved defensive tackles Da'Ron Payne and Jalen Holmes BOTH to defensive end to start the second half. I believe that only Fowler continued to rush from the edge while Ferrell and Armstrong both took snaps in rotation with the DT guys.
However the specifics worked out, this adjustment had the effect of improving Washington's ability to set the edge and put pressure on Bijan Robinson at scrimmage before he was outside the tackles.
Atlanta favors outside toss runs and this season have been thriving in their rush offense utilizing it, but the adjustment was effective enough to counter and get stops on Bijan at or behind the line of scrimmage on multiple outside attempts.
Atlanta was forced to run between the tackles which shut down part of its playbook, and when coupled with rookie Michael Penix Jr. starting in just his 2nd game and having limited experience with his receivers, having never received 1st team snaps in practice throughout the season until just last week, it put a wrinkle in the amazing efficiency Atlanta's offense had during the first half. Those 3 and out sequences coupled with the time consuming drives Washington put together on offense resulted in a complete shift in momentum for the game.
Little things make big differences was the name of the game in this one.

If he hadn't let that 4th quarter pass though his hands they'd have probably won then without OT and he'd have been the hero of the game. Also the o-line penalty that took away his other TD. Great game but if those two moments went different it would have made it a heroic performance. That's football.

why don't you talk about the fact that Daniel's played all season with his guys and Penix played with his for one friggin week....geezzzz. Daniel's is great for sure, but give Penix a break.....we will see how he does next year after having some TIME to coordinate with his receivers.... also, most of his overthrows were because his guys were not getting separation (watch the film) and Penix is smart enough to not throw the interception in those cases.... the last 2 years at Washington he threw to 3 great receivers (all now playing in the NFL) and they did know how to get separation!! Ok, I'm off my soapbox

The two most egregious things about Raheem Morris clock management is that he did the same thing at the end of BOTH the 1st and 2nd half. Complete and utter incompetence that even 12 year olds playing Madden know how to manage the situation better than that. But perhaps the most egregious is it robbed us of finding how exactly how far Penix Jr could have gone this postseason run with the one competitive avantage the Falcons would have had in other teams having such little film on him. Typically it takes 6-7 weeks to figure out a rookie QB on a heater. Well if it took that long for teams to adjust to Penix Jr, the Falcons could have already been in the NFCCG or Super Bowl. He completely robbed Falcon fans and rest of NFL of any remote possibility of that potential scenario.

Raheem morris is one the biggest idiots to ever live, and I’m definitely not a Falcons fan, but if I was I’d be so upset with that moron today. He quit at the end of the game. To somehow not take that Time out at the end, when you have 2 should get him fired. Nobody should ever be allowed to make such a dumb mistake. And it’s not a hindsight thing either, it was as obvious as it gets. Even guys like Adam Gase wouldn’t make that mistake. But I don’t really feel sorry for Atlanta fans, your team hired him after he was a massive failure in Tampa Bay. He’s a really good coordinator, but he in no way belongs on the sideline as a head coach. And people can call it a single mistake, but it’s the biggest, dumbest mistake you can make in Football.

@@jaymac7349 if you’re referring to the top 5-10 conversation sure. He can jump straight up to 5 and I wouldn’t have an issue with that. The numbers he’s put up this season don’t put him in the same conversation as Burrow, Lamar, Allen, and Mahomes though, in terms of elite QB conversation (we’re still clearly putting Mahomes in that conversation even if this years numbers aren’t there). That’s not a knock on JD5 though, and maybe he’ll get there. He’s just not there now, which is what I’ve seen some delusional fans argue. The 25 TDs to 9 INTs isn’t bad at all, just isn’t close to what any of the other guys at the top 4 are doing.
