I truly commend you on your approach to this song. I think that I can speak for most Nightwish fans when I say that you gave this performance the attention that it deserved and we as the Nightwish Army, appreciate it. Please do the same for The Poet And The Pendulum, and The Greatest Show On Earth. You will be glad that you did.

It’s absolutely amazing how a band can draw out the deepest emotions from a person to shed a tear. You are not alone as I to did hearing this song a few times over. Floor’s singing, Emppuu’s solos the entire band singing to lyrics as they play. This is what music as a whole should do to the listener. And put such a band on top of the list of great bands as Nightwish has done over the years

Drinking my morning coffee together with your reaction to Nightwish music is becoming a pleasant habit. And it creates addiction :)))
It must be said that many of us ended up listening to Nightwish's music in difficult moments of our lives, and the effect was and is absolutely positive. Through the way he writes and composes, Tuomas forces us to introspect, and through this to reach that inner peace that many (me, at least) do not hope to have access to. There is a paradox here, because it is obvious that he does this only to express himself, the tumult, his inner ocean, and he did not intend to transform us in any way. And if you think about it, how likely is it to find your own way to yourself, listening to a song?... It strengthens my belief that nothing in this world is accidental.

@@gabriel.bardac I understand Gabriel, but it is still very good.
I do the same with French because I live here, but my French chums tell me it is often very strange indeed and I don't know how it should "sound" even after almost 11 years of residence, it's a very isolated house, I have no neighbours. If you think this one is special, wait until you do The Poet and the Pendulum! You must know the background of the song before you listen to it and once you do so, and listen to it, be prepared for more tears. Tuomas is generational, meaning an artist like him only comes around once every 100 or so years. I know that when anyone listen's to NW for the first time, they go straight to Floor, and that is understandable, but for me, it is Tuomas and his genius that I gravitate towards.
Have you listened to Sleeping Sun yet? The melody is the most beautiful I've ever heard. I've read the it is Floor's favorite song. Damn, I love these guys!

For that matter everyone can feel it also in various levels. For what I have seen plenty of your reactions to Nightwish music makes me want to say, that you are truly so beautiful outside (a global scale beautiful woman) and also so beautiful inside (the things you project from inside of you) - so please continue to share your warmth, feelings and light for us when ever possible and thank you for the ones you have already done, makes my heart joy of all of them.

This was the first time I ever saw Emppu actually looking teary eyed, for some reason, this was also where I noticed how beautifully blue his eyes are. When it comes to the song, Floor manages to convey so much emotion through her voice that it's heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. Relate the lyric to Tuomas as a child? A lonely, misunderstood, lost child? Ooff... It's hard to listen without crying, but then there is the second part, the "light" that he found through his music, his piano\keyboard, which became his muse, his strength.
The line that always kills me is "I wish I didn't feel for you anymore" with that double cadence, like the boy and adult Tuomas in one

To be honest it was my favourite Nightwish song back then too. It's still one of my favourites. Your reaction and prelude was amazing! I'm now 100% sure that your reactions and research to the two masterpieces 'Poet and the pendulum' and 'The greatest show on earth' are going to be two of the best if not THE best reaction videos about the music of Nightwish. After 20 years in the music industry I feel that those two belongs in the same page with the greatest songs ever written. In the same page with 'Bohemian rhapsody', 'Imagine', 'Sound of silence', 'Comfortably numb', 'Stairway to heaven' etc. Take your time to react to those two. No need to rush. Nightwish has so many amazing songs for you to discover. Greetings from Nightwish army Greece department 🤘🇬🇷

Thank you, thank you for your words. And I'd like to give one more hug back across the great sea that's between our continents.
I actually have another reaction suggestion for the future: "The Greatest Show on Earth"
This masterpiece is less strenuous, but an important milestone of Nightwish. There are two versions of this, but they differ well from each other.
One is the Wembley, London version and the other is the Tampere, Finland version.
They differ in parts 1 and 3, and Richard Dawkins is also present in person in the London version.
Only one thing would be important: show the lyrics for both versions. Parts of the lyrics, narrated by Richard Dawkins, are a bit too quiet and are drowned out by the music, making them very difficult to understand, especially in Part 3.
Otherwise let yourself be enchanted, it's really worth it.
      Many greetings from Germany

Like you said Debbie, it helps when you have a goddess singing for you. It certainly does. Far more than that though - it's the chemistry of the whole band. They "get" each other. When they found Floor, they struck absolute gold. It's like she completes them, and they her. Tuomas now has his own personal muse, someone who can not only sing but *express* whatever it is he's writing.
As to you, I'm stunned. I've been watching them all, and geez did you ever take the deep dive! For someone who's been "living under a musical rock", you've really *immersed yourself* in this band. It's truly impressive how far you've come and how fast! As soon as Floor started singing my eyes went all misty. One thing someone pointed out on Emppu’s guitar solo…the expression on his face when he finishes…not his usual smiling, happy visage. Maybe that demonstrates the power of this song….it even got to him.
For Tuomas himself this song means a lot.
He has said that this is the “mother of all Nightwish songs, about himself and how he wants people to remember him as when he passes away.
    He said
”This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologise everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” -statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me.
When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul.”

Nightwish is always more than just listening to music, it's always an experience!
Thank you for doing an absolutely brilliant background job with these two videos of this song. This (these) is one of the best reaction videos ever. Thank you!
In the background (led screen) you saw swans. According to old Finnish mythology (from the time before Christianity), a big bird picks up the soul of a dying person and carries it to another world.
A Finnish priest told me that it is still somewhere in Finns' genes, because almost every home has some Bird-themed artwork (painting, sculpture, etc.). If you ask a Finn why, we can't answer. It's just an inner feeling that it has to be this way...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I find the "Dead Boy" sentence as a different meaning of which it seems to have in a simple interpretation, I think it's about his "lost innocence" (Dead= lost, Boy=innocence). I think this is one of the mosts Deep songs ever written.

Powerful and so well crafted too! This should be on their setlist always. This is my first comment after subbing you last week - and you are obviously very genuine and heartfelt. But I am worried for your health - Nightwish is a pretty powerful band. Just seen a guy cry who I sub to aswell during a song from the latest album 'How's the Heart' - he thought he was less manly for doing so but his Wife quite rightly told him what a sign of strength it was! Take good care of yourself 😃 x

Great reaction Debbie. This was also my first time hearing that song and seeing the video. It hit me extra hard because 20 years ago my little sister was pregnant with identical twin boys and one of them didn't make it. Every time I look at my nephew that survived I can't help but think how it was supposed to be two of them and I get sad. The twin that died only lived 21 minutes. 😪

This song brings me to tears every single time! A lot of the lyrics speak to me...as an artist...I want people to see my passion for nature. How I love the color of leaves on tree in the fall...animals grazing in a field....the beauty of a stream and a waterfall. I sometimes paint from my memories, how big and majestic everything was to a 10 year old boy. There is a Nightwish song titled:
    Endless Forms Most Beautiful
As an artist...that's how I see things. It's how I have always seen things. I love Tuomas' vision of the world...and how he transforms it into music! He is brilliant...

Hi Debbie! My Nightwish journey is quite a bit longer than yours, but different since you took the courage to open your soul about it on UA-cam.
Never ever through my journey have I witnessed a reactor showing this kind of respect and admiration for the band Nightwish, its composer and Poet Tuomas Holopainen and its Valkyrie Goddess front woman Floor Jansen like you, Debbie.
It is obvious that this band has conquered a very special place in your heart, and literally a very fragile heart at that.
To be honest I'm a bit worried about that fact, so please promise us that in all cases you take very good care of yourself especially when reacting to songs that deeply hit you in the feels.
The way you went about dealing with Dead Boys' Poem could in my opinion be an excellent blueprint for later on in your journey when you deal with The Poet and the Pendulum.

You have yet to react to 'TGSOE', but the overarching theme in that particular song is that it is an absolute miracle that all of us watching this won the lottery of life and are alive at this precise moment in time to share our emotions and feelings with each other. The whole Buenos Aires 2018 Decades World tour show is phenomenal with Floor breathing new life in to a number of Nightwish classics that pre-date her time with the band. My first watch and listen to Nightwish and Floor 12 months ago was "The Poet and the Pendulum" live from Wembley 2018. It was recommended to me by a friend. Great you got to this one and you appreciated it as it has to be.. Nightwish makes pieces of art and this is my favorite, and is difficult to put it there with Ghost Love Score (my personal ringtone) or Greatest Show on Earth (Absolute magic) or Poet and Pendulum (an explosion of feelings), they´re the greatest without a doubt cause thet enjoy doing what they give us so much, and when they feel they have to move on they do and they evolve to something better, Tuomas has all my admiration for taking what he has and make magic for us with it.. Queen Floor is also the cherry on top.. perfect combination.. keep rocking and stay safe!

Thank you for all the effort you put into both videos and how fantastic it was to see the results of that hard work in the emotions on your face as you experienced this. The onion ninja's get me every time I hear this song. Everyone has said most of what I would say but one point, on the video screen behind the band is a small boy holding up his arms to swans. In Finnish mythology swans are the creatures who guide your soul to the afterlife in Tuonela so very fitting. I have to say, I am very grateful that you take the time to read the lyrics and learn the background before doing the reaction. For me this is a very new approach to reaction videos I have not seen before on UA-cam. It shows a deep appreciation for the meaning of music, rarely seen with other reactors.

I get what you mean about initially thinking this song was going to be sad. While it may bring tears to my eyes every time I hear it, it’s not sadness. It’s something so much more complex than that. It’s a sense of awe, and wonder, and appreciation that somebody could be so willing to bare their soul so openly and beautifully. A glimpse into the mind of a genius, and actually understanding what you see there in a way so profound that it can’t be expressed by words or music alone, but only through a perfect combination of the two and performed in such a way that you feel everything all at once. I think what makes this work as well as it does, though, is that the song is not asking for our sympathy or seeking a resolution to a problem. Rather, it simply puts on naked display the very core of this man’s being and expresses what is. No hopes and dreams, no pleas for understanding, just statements of rock solid honesty and truth. And it is. Beautiful.
