@@j.c.smithprojects true, but that's a rough recommendation. In my experience, it's not exactly a linear equation for the gallons to qts conversion needed. Probably get away with 2-3 qts tops and there is always the leftover amount to save and pour back for the next tank. But hey, with JC's welding and if it's pretty clean inside already, plus a sale truck, sounds like it's not needed on this one 👍

JC, remember or not as the guy who lives in alaska, did some of this kind of work, now wishing we had tools like this. Rather than drag out a comment, figure I would give my short hopefully story of starting as a log truck driver. Dad was a detroit guy and would send me out with a old tired 671 detroit. Tanks were too small and I would run out of fuel..... not easy to pick up the prime again, I put a tire core in the tank and had air fixed up for airing up tires anyway so would just put in a little and that means a very little as my first attempt was blowing up my tank. But done right, it would push fuel up to the filters and get it going with a little practice.... maybe a lot of practice as it did scare me enough to remember how loud the sound of a tank going Bang! Fuel only cost around two cents a gallon in those days.... ever wonder why or how they could sell fuel that cheap?? We both know but can anyone ever explain it to the others who did not live in those times. Thirty nine cents for what we call high test now, and you could leave a rig that used gas for a year and it would still be good fuel. Plus the carburetor wasn't gummed up, things just worked. I am not getting political on you but real scared again, not of getting older, but what is happening here in our country

Those welds look pretty darn good, especially considering you just started tig welding not too long ago! A watercooled torch is nice to have for long periods of welding or high amperage, you can also choke up on the torch for certain positions and not have the torch get too hot to hold comfortably. Might be a good addition to your welding setup.

General engineering practice is to drill clearance holes for bolts oversized. The reason for this is to allow for greater hole location tolerances and still allow the bolt to pass freely thru the two mating parts.
If you don’t use an oversized clearance hole, the location needs to be perfect and it costs more in a production application.
They probably punch the holes in production.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  4 місяці тому

oversized holes are for punched holes or inadequacies in manufacturing....not required. if i can drill holes the same size as the fastener, a manufacture should be able to get that same level of accuracy.

I have an older Jancy upright mag drill. It is variable speed, and i really like it. The magnet is really thick and powerful, but like your Milwaukee, it is HEAVY.
I did just purchase a Fein low profile mag drill. Similar to the low profile Hougen.
The low profile drills will fit between the frame rail and the rear duals still installed on the truck. Thinner/weaker magnet, but it saves a ton of work if the tires don't need to come off anyway.
What will dull those annular cutters faster than anything, is the rust between double frame rails!
The price point on that Evoloution is excellent, at that price im not surprised it isn't as powerful as you (and i) think it should be.

J.C. the only thing i can think of against a corded magnet on a drill is if you have an interruption in power. That can get exciting very quick if doing a vertical surface. I got hurt badly drilling 3/4" holes in cast iron. We made a plate to stick the mag base to but when the power dropped out the thing beat me up. I was up under a loom with not a lot of room anyway. The drill bit hung up and broke, the part still in the
drill laid the side of my arm open. Too many stitches later and a lost time accident.
After that if i used a magdrill on a vertical I hooked one of the overhead chainfalls to it.
One a$$hole from the cleanup crew unplugged my extension cord, that tether earned its keep.
Just keep that in mind, J.C.
Those stitches hurt because the area never quite got numb.
Cool little drill though. The single high speed concerns me especially going bigger in diameter with the hole.
A mag drill of some sort will probably be my next purchase.
Im getting too old to hoss around those old 1/2" drill motors.
    Nice job on the tank.....
    Cheers
    Terry

An 8.1 petrol engine in a truck ,,Would be unthinkable here in Europe,,You would need to carry a petrol station around in the back to keep it going,,Not to mention the money it would cost,,Even in vans a petrol engine is rarer than hens teeth in Europe,,,99 percent are diesel,,Not to mention a Diesel engine is just more practical,,Although in USA diesel is more expensive than petrol,,

How much for the truck without a bed?

That truck without a bed is exactly what I’m looking for in that wheelbase length. All I would really need would be some fenders over the rear tires.
