Yeah that’s what he means when he says chall players are just different from everyone else. You only need to see a strategy once to replicate it, without really realizing that most people just don’t process information like that. Sure a normal person will remember that baiting a jungler into a shove is a potential strategy but normal players won’t be able to manage all the key details of a close 1v2 fight like that while simultaneously recognizing they want the wave to push to them after they die, and then also realizing that they can force kayn to push the wave because his Q is an aoe spell and it’s his only way to close the gap to kill you in a reasonable timeframe if you space properly. That’s just too many damn things to consciously analyze in the span of a few seconds, and that’s not even considering all of the possible permutations of this situation that somebody might consider which all lead to a less optimal result than the one achieved here. The obvious conclusion we can draw from this kind of hypothetical comparison is that challenger players are probably not manually processing this sort of information as the situation is unfolding. We can draw this conclusion because if most challenger players really were manually considering all of the possible current and future variables present in any given interaction while also participating in that interaction, they’d have to be capable of thinking at least 3-5 times faster than the average person. If most challenger players were capable of thinking at least 3-5 times faster than the average person, then most challenger players would be intellectually comparable to people like Albert Einstein. Don’t get me wrong, challenger players aren’t stupid or anything, and higher league rank does positively correlate with general intelligence, but I just don’t see a world where tf blade fucking cures cancer and then solves the prime number conjecture after finishing his latest rank 1 grind. So if challenger players are not consciously analyzing their league games all that much faster than normal people, the only reasonable explanations for this kind of disparity in situational awareness and moment to moment precision and adaptability between low and high elo players are as follows: 1. Challenger players have a really efficient subconscious mind when it comes to learning from past experiences. If you didn’t know, your subconscious mind is way more powerful than your conscious mind (this is because your brain simply dedicates way more resources to maintaining your subconscious mind), so any meaningful differences in the efficiency and accuracy with which your subconscious mind sends information to your conscious mind could be responsible for major changes in mental performance. Again, if challenger players had subconscious minds that were strictly superior to those of average people we’d end up back to the genius argument once again. In this case, however, the discrepancy could actually be explained by a smaller change to the subconscious mind: the efficiency with which the subconsciousness withdraws information related to the results of past experiences. A normal player initiates a fight against (insert champ1) as (insert champ2) and loses, 23 games later they do a similar 1v1 against (insert champ1) and lose again. A challenger player with this hypothetical subconscious mind takes the same fight, loses, and then literally never makes the same mistake ever again because their subconscious mind has now permanently associated that kind of situational approach with failure. Eventually, after enough direct experiences have been accrued, common connections and patterns can be found within this web of experiences, and precise instincts are formed. Howling means wolves, fire means warmth, and taking a bad trade level 2 when they have an Elise means you’re getting dived level 3. This is a somewhat plausible explanation as to why some people can consistently stay in challenger without putting in herculean levels of effort and other people get stuck in gold for 12 years without ever getting any better. I don’t think this is the only possible explanation though, so on to what seems significantly more likely for most cases: 2. Challenger players aren’t thinking about what they need to do during a fight because they already did their thinking 30 seconds before the fight even happened. It’s just disciplined, undistractable goal-setting and the singleminded pursuit of those goals. You already knew you wanted to set up an eventual kill on Gwen, and you already knew what you wanted the wave to look like after that kill happened as well. The kayn gank may have come as a surprise, but it ultimately didn’t change your short term plans, it just forced you to accelerate them. You had already considered ways to kill Gwen, and you had already considered the wave, the only thing you may have had to consciously analyze was the presence of kayn, and that by itself is perfectly manageable for somebody who thinks at a normal speed. Constantly setting goals at least 10 seconds before beginning to work on them means you can direct a much bigger percentage of your conscious thought to situational adaptations/reactions when the time comes to actually execute your goal. This kind of mental approach to playing league could be argued to be a teachable skill rather than a cognitive talent, but the ability to smoothly and consistently move on from setting a situationally sensible goal to executing said goal and then repeating that process continuously for a full length game of league of legends requires a great deal of both focus and flexibility in one’s cognition. I would know, too, because I’ve tried to replicate this kind of structured thought process and due to ADHD reducing my cognitive flexibility I have never come even remotely close to replicating it for a full length game, and I probably never will. So, sure, maybe some diamond or master tier players or whatever could try their hand at a rank 1 grind if you taught them to think like this when they play league, but even the greatest teachers are still limited by their students ability to learn. Just as a goldfish is never going to design functional spacecraft no matter how hard you try to teach it, a bronze player is never going to be able to match this kind of gameplay no matter how much coaching you give them. The difference in talent is too big.
Dude ikr that shit is GENIUS and not even bc its some crazy idea, its almost common sense BUT TO FIGURE THAT DURING COMBAT is insane cognitive stacking right there
I've hit chall on lan & NA and something I can say is there are wildcard strategies that most chall players do not do. One is playing a hook champ bot lane lvl 1, warding their tri-bush (or a bit closer to the buff), then camping the bush behind their tower and hooking one of them creating an instant 2v1 that is unavoidable which is a guaranteed kill or both summs. You can do it almost every game if your adc doesn't pick an apc lvl 1.
I think it's just pattern recognition, fighting in your wave will draw your minion aggro, allowing their minions to push. Kayn being aoe is just a bonus point
If you want to do some cooking there is a super secret CIA AD build for AD Fighters that lets you skip boots :P and you end up with 4 more permanent MS than with builds that include boots and you have 6 item slots to populate with Legendary items. You have 2 weeks left to try it out, because the boots changed will destroy that build. Yomuus + Phage (into BC / TriForce) + Winged Plate (into whatever item suites you later, if you opt into Hull you end up with the highest AD build in the game for AD Fighters) How does it work? Yomuus gives bonus MS out of combat and once you enter combat the lost MS from Yomuus gets substituted by the bonus on-hit MS from Phage / BC / TriForce.
Impressive gameplay. I love Riven's playstyle and kit a lot and the itemization just makes so much sense since she is so all-in type of champ so building items that give her power ups thorough the fight will make it almost impossible for the opponent to correctly gauge her power at any given point in battle as well as give you the upper hand in burst damage and when you score a kill.
Personally I'm thinking in going Hubris + Tiamat to ignore tanks and outscale tanks through proxy + taking camps. Hubris does have more lethality than eclipse, I think the damage is similar if you dont have a stack on Hubris yet comparing to Eclipse passive, afterwards Hubris is just broken tbh
Never understood why no Riven player ever built Hubris 1st into bruiser like this before. Item has every stats that Riven likes, and give option to either stomp further, or coming back via picks, on top of very good component spikes in Dirk.
Truth be told, it was a masterpiece early game with amazing macro later. It is not a build diff when u dive lvl4 enemy with lvl 6 riven. And we all know that wasn’t because u bought some lethality. Also we aware how good lethality items (even if it’s only 1 lethality item) are at snowboaling. With such advantage you could have build any ad item (and even some ap) and result could have been the same. I’m not saying, that this build is bad(I have a feeling that it only works in glass cannon comps like this and we don’t know, whether classic would have been better), but, as stated earlier sheer understanding of the game was defining factor. Great education on micro and macro. I’m sure we all took something from it. Thank you.
I'm happy you enjoyed! I personally played quite a few games already and enjoyed it, its pretty fun and I like glass cannon Riven the most, will do streams in season 15 with some variations of it! Not gonna say its the best as I think most people prefer a bruiser Riven with more CDR, just a preference of mine ^^
Not really a question about the video but should I blind pick Riven?, I'm emerald and I have a 67% wr with Aatrox and a 50% wr with Riven (I'm pretty bad), right now I'm kind if stuck with Aatrox winning a game then losing, if I just keep playing Riven and improving in the long term will I be rewarded or should I play something else? :[ I also feel like if I blind pick her I kind of just get bodied by Renektons or Volibears so I wanted to ask if you usually blind her, thanks!
Play what gives you the most fun tbh, I got to masters my first time with Riven only (and was banning Fiora due to mental block, so was playing against Renektons and Volibears) trying to get R5 as much as possible, but if not I would blind pick her yeah. Its the tipic reply I know but you gotta focus on improving and not on deciding what champions you should be playing, that wont change your progress in the long run. Hope I answered your question!

I don't doubt that it's a strong build but this is a bad game to showcase it bc you were in the lead at lvl 3 being up cs and a kill and snowballed it nicely. Skill impacted the game more than the build imo
I think a lot of top laners do that when they're tilted because they have to sit there and wait. I've seen it happen a lot and I don't know why but I also do it when losing lane and can't farm.
I've been looking around and testing for new Briar builds. I wish I could use coachless to see that data but I'm too broke right now to justify it lol, I've been testing hubris on her and I've enjoyed it in lane if they have a lot of squishies.
Sorry to hear that, I think you should use LOLAlytics to search what the OTPS are doing right now, its always a reliable way to get the good builds! ^^
I trust it's a great build, but the snowball from the very early game vs gwen makes it hard to see when it's the build doing the work or just the huge gold advantage Maybe not the best choice of game to showcase it Clean moves though :o !
