- Join Tarron and Adam for this tabletop BattleTech video series. In this video the boys discuss the Gauss Rifle, an interesting addition to your BattleMech weapon loadout.
Introduced in 2590 by the Terran Hegemony, the Gauss Rifle utilizes a series of electromagnets to propel slugs of ferrous nickel-iron alloy at extremely high velocities, making it a devastating and lethal long-range weapon. Watch to learn more about this head chopper.

I love my Nightstar. 95 tons, 2 gauss rifles... so much fun.
Improved Heavy Gauss Riffle: For when you absolutely *have* to deal 22 points of damage for 2 heat at 19 hexes...
Hot damn!
Weights 20 tons tho...
Almost every mech that had ac 20's in a new version of the mech had gauss rifles.
It is hard to not pass up the range and heat benefits.👍
Good lord! People that can actually pronounce Gauss correctly!
Hey there Dakks. Well, if you pronounce it the other way people may think you're trying to apply a high impact bandage. lol.
Gauss Rifle: noun- (1)Two words that make grown men pee. (2) A electromagnetic rail gun that projects steel cockpit removers (3) Why Liao can't have nice things.
In general, I like the Gauss Rifle. incredible damage, long range, low heat... about the only down side is its ammo dependency...
The light Gauss, for the 3 tons you save, you sure don't get a good return on your investment... it reminds me of the AC/2 compared to the AC/5
Heavy Gauss, now that's a fearsome short to mid range weapon... for the limited shots per ton and low damage at long range, I don't think many would use it as a long range weapon, it fits nicely as a competitor to the AC/20
The HAG's.... not nearly as good a crit seeker as the Silver bullet Gauss Rifle, as the rules have its damage grouped into 5 point damage clusters... they basically function like LRMs, only at 2x the weight, minimum range, slightly longer range, and then less effective at long range, but more at short.. as Clanner, i'd just put streak LRMs on my mech before these monstrosities... I suppose they'd make good anti aircraft guns, so there is a niche for them
HAGs are more heat efficient than LRMs. Also they seem so hard to manage in one of the first person simulators that you will probably never see MWO push timeline till they exist.
Enjoying the videos. Especially on a Sunday morning.
Glad you like them Joshua. Enjoy your Sunday.
I’m new to battletech and I’m wondering, what books are you using that have all these charts and information in? I’d like to buy one 😳
Thanks for commenting. The boys did a video talking about what books you should begin with. Watch that to get you started.👍
