Thank you for making this video. This is happening just as you described with my Lincoln SP-250. It welded perfectly as you explained, but then all of a sudden, it would not weld smoothly at all. I thought it was me as well. I have been trying to figure out this issue for a little while now. I tried everything and was just about to order a new liner. Thanks again for taking the time to record this fix!
Oh my lord! I was looking for a video to see which mig guns and liners were compatible with the 256 because of the same issue. That’s got to be it. This is our machine at work that gets used by multiple people and rarely taken care of, I’ll try and clean that part out tomorrow morning! Thank you!
Yes needs a wire wiper before it enters the liner. Also upgrading to a higher quality liner makes a difference. Welded in a fab shop for 9 years and liners were changed on regular basis. It was nothing to go through a 25 lb spool a day.
I have the exact same welder with the same issue ! I can't count how many tips that I've torched almost immediately. Can"t wait got try it tomorrow. Thanks !!!
I'm having the exact issue you described, and I have replaced everything trying to track this down. I'll give this a go tonight, and hopefully it cures my ailments. Thanks Gary!
I had the similar problem with my welder could not figure it out change just about everything still would not work.... I did what you advised me this morning now it works great... Thanks for the video
My problem was that I was using the .035 roller with a .030 wire. Keep in mind that those rollers are reversible and work with different diameter wire. I ended up ordering a roller set for .030/.025.
I had the same problem and the told me to put some grease that the sold, but I will give a shot to this . Also I have others might welders and they don't have the same issue and the are cheaper than this model so I hope it will fix the problem ... Thankyou
Gary i have the 260 at first i had to put it on manual to make it work , then it was like the wire stick in liner so called Lincoln they send me a new whip right a way but this not help i always had to make sure whip was straight , the welder screen would freeze up so they send me another screen and i ask for 350 whip now it worked really good as it seamed the problem was solved ,,, well the problem come back and i am leaning to to drive motors ,i am beginning to suspect .. as it start to weld good then start to spit if stop and restart good for a couple sec then back again ,, i love this welder but as been a peace of shit from the day i got it , i have other i use , instead ,, Lincoln as been very good for warranty but the down time as really been a problem Art
Art looks like you got a lemon. Sorry to hear that, I am quite happy with the 256, I have had it for many years and it is a good machine. I use it a fair amount and have had no problems other than feed and the normal welder issues. Good luck Gary
@MrOvation1 Did you ever find the fix for this issue? I'm having similar problems with my 260 seemingly random porosity... I've changed everything in the torch head, sleeve, rollers new wire, etc. It's like the gas random shuts off and on. I'm pulling my hair out. It could happen in the middle of a long run or when I stop and start.
wrap a piece of clean rag around wire before the feed rolls and secure with one of those black paper clips... cleans wire , keeps dirt out of rolls and liner
If ya fold a piece of green scotch brute over the wire and use a tiny little spring clamp like used for papers and you won’t have this problem ever again! Just fold over the other way after a while then replace with another piece once it gets dirty.
I found that before you feed your wire into the machine off the spool run it through a foam earplug and it will wipe off the dust before it enters the wire feeder
My sputter was from running the wrong roller on the wire feeder. The welder came with 25 wire but had 30-35 roller. Once I realized and switched she’s running a lot better. Would have never known If I didn’t see the other rollers with the tips.
Black is prob the the black poly guide wear.. 1. Clean everything. 2. Use wiper. 3. Check Tip/ nozzle. 4. Check liner (wire should pull freely through it. 5. Crank up (check) roller tension. My welder wasn't working right because I used different wire & had to crank up roller tension!!
You should be running 2 tubular felts before the rollers. The 1st one nearest to the roller should be a dry and the 2nd should be a wet cleaning solvent. Not sure why they don’t send these two very simple but incredibly necessary items with all MIG units.
Could you give a more detailed explanation, curios how you hold them in place, how often you change them and how often you refresh the cleaner. I like the idea.
@@Haystack461 They wrap around the wire. They are about an 1" long and roughly 3/4" in diameter with a split length wise with a centered hole. The solvent felt isn’t all that necessary on hard wire. Typically meant for Dual-shield. The first dry felt is a softer compound colored grey and if used…..the solvent felt is typically red with a harder compound feel to retain the liquid which would be applied up to twice daily depending on usage.
Allow me to tell you Mr Gringo. On heavy Duty industrial production each time that you change coilwire you should desasembly liner guide from hose becouse this tend to be twisted. Also you must be sure that the wire in the spool dont come overlap. In addition, the spool must be tight enough so each time that you stop the trigger the wire must stop. If the spool continues turning when you release the trigger the wire will overlap again and you will get poor amperege and erratically feed. Adios Mr Señor "Gabacho" wich means white in Guadalajara City.
Yup your s Wire is dirty get scotch bright and zip tie it on the other side that should help clean the wire before it goes in. Nothing is fool proof. I'm sure there are other methods you can use better than that

@@Haystack461 YES ! My rollers where covered in green residue from the copper. works like new again. Thanks again for putting out the video !

You are welcome. It is great to hear it helped. Thanks for letting me know,
Thank you for your video and comments I'm having the same problem with mine I'm going to try that and see if it works
Thanks!! This worked for me. I also clamped a cleaning rag to the wire going in. Works great!

This helped immensely! Running like new again! Thank you!
Thank you sir, my hubby will give it a cleaning and try it out.
You are welcome. Hope this helps. Let me know Thanks.
Yeah this fixed me up proper. Thanks. I am also due for a liner
they make a felt wiper that clips onto the wire before going in, they also make a oil made for that to lube the liner
I did not know about the oil for the liner. I will check into that, Thanks
@@Haystack461 the brand is weld aid, lube-matic

I always use a piece of scotchbrite folded over the wire and held in place with a clothespin before the wire enters the drive rolls to prevent this
Very good idea I will try this. Great tip.
They make a foam looking piece designed for that.
my brother has a power mig 350 and had the same issue. he just ran the wire through an ear plug before it goes into the rollers lol

Same problem with my 210 MP. Just goes to show ya that regular cleaning and maintenance go a long way.
Holy crap thanks !!! This helped a lot

Thanks for the info mr.brown
I believe it's really something else
Probably grinding dust it Wil magnetize and stick to metal and cause alot of feeder issues...
My Lincoln 210 mp has issues
Sometimes your voltage is to high, not enough wire cominout too.
Good point, feed rate to voltage balance can also cause a similar problem.
Wire restrictions also.
