- how to fix def red light truck won't start problems. i am gonna explain a couple things we did to get us going for now and at the end of the video i explain what the real problem is. If you do a hard reset make sure you dont turn off the truck until you get to a safe place where you can fix it , the truck might not start again.
Good video Sir, I had a 2015 Cascadia a few years ago do the same thing to me at a truckstop in ohio. Always wondered what the problem was with that DEF red light etc. Company got soaked for repair bills on it.

I liked your video and I'm not here to argue with you, but I call the fuse line from the dealership BS. Same thing happened to me on my 2016. Pulled all the glove box fuses, checked the fuses and relays under the hood drivers side box over the fender, all fine. Put it on the laptop with the DDEC diagnostic link. No evident codes, no failed components, just a bunch of communication issues with the main gateway. My CPC is 3 years old.
I reloaded the software into everything off the server, but I left the CPC alone and didn't reflash it. Red light went out, all my green lights for DEF tank level back ( it's close to full ). So, if I had a blown fuse, I wouldn't have been able to fix it.
I still don't really trust it. I put the truck down for the day and I'm heading in shortly to keep pecking at it. A few people mention the ELD monkeying with things too, ( I run a PeopleNet tablet ) and I'm wondering if when it tries to communicate with the ECM on startup, it throws something off.
For the rest of you, my PNDB, and SAM chassis are both less than a year old, voltages healthy.
I had the same issue, PNDB module was giving low voltage to the fuses, make sure to check fuse voltage, fuses was giving me 5v or less, I applied 12v to fuses and it worked.

They changed the fuses and it started like never had an issue, but when ELD cable connected red engine light comes on…

If the def light is flashing and it won't crank or it starts up but has zero throttle response (Only on a freightliner with a Detroit.) And its not the fuse to the cpc its the cpc itself. So far 5 out of 5 times I had a bad cpc4. Usually no codes.
One time a had one throwing different codes randomly. It had me going around testing all kinds of things and then gave me codes for all the injectors being bad. (engine ran perfect) That's how I knew for sure the CPC was bad.
What happens is the CPU on the CPC4's printed circuit board loses connection and in my opinion its heat that kills them.
Also if you're driving and you lose the speedometer for a split second it's usually an early sign of the CPC going bad.
At the time of this video was your DEF system fully functional prior to the red light coming on?
Had this issue along with the ABS light and red triangle. Turns out it was my CPC4 which is on national backorder. I found a mechanic who had some available in Bakersfield, Ca. Cost me $5500 due to the lack of availability. ☹
What place in Bakersfield CA? Because I have the same issue but I got the red engine light that says 🛑 stop!

I had the same problem , took it to freightliner ( labor rate $200hr 😢) it turned out to be the cpc controller pin 47 ! They had to replace it !
Is just a think that if it was a fuse you couldn’t reset the computer and make your truck run again ,maybe I wrong is just a thought

Freightliner said they replaced the main cab fuse inside the dash board which is hard to believe but thats all they did but honestly when you take it out its gonna turn off all the power inside your cab including the dashboard i think that only resets your DEF light because a couple weeks later it did the same thing again but, this might help you out if you are just trynna get some where or it might work for a couple of weeks like it did on my truck. Just had this same issue, it was the cpc4. Cost me $800 to get it refurbished. 99% of the time, if your having these same symptoms it is the cpc4!
Ok so I'm having the same issue, the red blinking light with the ABS light, engine cranks but it doesn't start, its giving me code SPN 639 FMI 9. In conclusion, is it the CPC module?

@Muxamed Cali moved the main relay on the fuse box, it was loose. I have a Cummings motor

@thangbo1 yes, mine has a Cummins engine therefore no cpc module. The relays and fuse box on the engine was replaced
I’m having problems with my truck starts and runs for 1 min and shuts off. Says I need to regen but I can’t. Now even a force regen doesn’t let me. I have no idea where to start bc anything def related has been changed just as much other parts any ideas?

A fuse? Ahh I've been having similar issues with my freightliner, def light blink and accelerator wont work. I keep hearing it may be the famous CPC4 problem, or the ECM. I cant tell anymore. Been a year and still cant find the problem.

How did you fix it
Hey guys , i tried the reset for 2 hours and it didnt work, i swaped the def level sensor and it continues . I need help truck doesnt even crank just turn once with blinking def light and still reads empty, i also changed the PDM ecm whatever its called i also changed this , all fuses under dash and engine comparment have been changed

My truck same problem no start and red light show when computer show my cpc problem am going dealer buy new cpc and doing programming then fix it my self just 4 flight cpc now my truck is good my 2016 cascadia I think when truck 965 near 9 when problem cpc my truck and 2 my friends truck same problem

My truck is running fine but once the def light blinks red. Everything on the dashboard disappears and truck comes to stop immediately even though engine is still running. I deleted the def about a yr ago.

This dude never answered , what fuse was it. I think he’s full off. Don’t try to get that attention of you don’t want to inform the whole issue. That doesn’t make you better.

The Dealer and the mechanic all Thief they wanna get our check at the end of weekend that what it's is thnk for ur clip was good
you are totally rite my friend ... a lot of these mechanics only replace what is broken on the trucks but they dont take the time to find out what is causing the problem so it keeps happening.
Bro im not theif this trucks are more and more complicated. Plus alot of you guys buy junk ex yellow trucks, ryder truckers and schinder trucks thinking it's a great deal. When in truth large fleets and rental companies abuse the hell out of there trucks

failed def header,tank full no codes the sending unit failed ecu believes def tank id empty causing engine to out of compliance.
My truck is doing the same. Truck turns on but def light blinking red. No codes. I disconnect batteries for 10 minutes and no more red blinking def light. I come back 2 hours later and def light blinking red again. You think it's def header or cpc4?

Clean your one box there is a way of cleaning it.
Many of those codes are fake codes, I just lived, first of all, there is a black box, you need to make sure it is solid.
It’s not a fuse it’s the power relay in the fuse box in the engine compartment
What is that relay number in the fuse compartment ?
