      But you pass by thousands of "someones" every day. By showing they are someone's child, it gives them an identity and it hits parents. It makes you think of your children, your siblings, your friends. It makes the subject seem like it could happen to ANYONE.

    • @angc214
      @angc214 7 років тому +32

      Lovely Angel Do you have kids? I have an 8 year old little girl. I would rather die than see her in a situation where she is selling her body for nothing. Saying "they're human beings" doesn't bring it close to home. You pass by thousands of human beings every day and rarely think twice about them. Saying "they're somebody's child" I would like to think gives them an identity. Giving them an identity gives them more value than just "human being". Every boy is somebody's son. Boys are trafficked for sex far less than girls are, but are trafficked. In many cases for cheap labor. They're all human beings, but what I said is a tactic to give them an identity.

    • @hnichole
      @hnichole 4 роки тому

      To be completely honest, I highly doubt that that's what was going through their heads when this law was passed. The specific section of the law that is being used here is supposed to give sites protection against things that third parties post on the site. This is really great for companies and blogs that could be sued over things that are truly not their fault, but the problem in this situation is that the individuals running this website are intentionally taking advantage of the law and abusing it. Many judges have ruled in favor of these trafficking sites because they *technically* are protected by this law, but you would think that common sense and a true understanding of what these traffickers are doing would convince them to step in and shut it down. At this point, Congress needs to make an amendment to this section if we are to solve the problem. The documentary I Am Jane Doe explains the problem and tracks this law's history through the courts pretty well, if you are interested in watching it.

Each one of us, through this tough to watch education, makes us more able to pick up on situations and be able to do something about them hopefully. Not to mention a complete disdain for all those authoritarian gatekeepers of society who do bugger all or are clueless.

    • @bananablues142
      @bananablues142 5 років тому +1

      Well, she obviously felt like she was under a lot of pressure to perform, and the report card they found showed that she did not feel comfortable talking about her parents about failure and perhaps insecurities. Because of this, she may not have gotten the positive reinforcement she needed from them. Instead, she may have gotten it from somewhere else.
      The people that lure these girls into their grasp are very cunning, and know exactly how to talk to an insecure 15 year old who feels she has no-one else to talk to. They make her feel good about herself, position themselves as a dominant influence in her life, and slowly start to convince her to withdraw from her family further. "They won't understand you like I do, you know that." And if they do it well enough, they may even convince her to leave her home and come to them. They convince her she can't go back. "Your parents will never forgive you." Note that the second time around, she didn't even want to talk to anyone else but the very man that trafficked her in the first place.
      They're masters of manipulation, especially when it comes to insecure teenage minds. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something like this that happened :3

      Because trafficking victims have a special type of Stockholm syndrome and they are so beaten down that they believe their traffickers and "friends " they make on the streets and while being held are the only people who will accept and understand them. That's why intensive psychological and behavioral therapy is paramount in recovery.

      Thanks for the responses. But why don't MOST or ALL children run away when they get a D on their report card? I assume the child did not fear the thought of running away like I would.

      chico frijoles chico frijoles because not all kids are worried about their grades like that plus she also said there were other changes at home and school that she was going through. So maybe something happened at school that she didn’t tell anyone about. I would be scared of what would happen to me on the streets but again sometimes teenagers don’t think about that kind of thing before running away and some just don’t care sadly.
