I'm higher on Matuesz. Yes, he isn't in *his* best shape. However, he said that last year, too, and got 2nd. Additionally, he is one of the harshest self critics out there. Him proclaiming he isn't in the best shape can still mean a podium finish.
He won MVM and was 2nd last year With a press, press, frame, medley, stone to shoulder show I don't know how he'd get anything below 4th even with the deadlift I think he's in better shape now than he was last year based on the MVM
I think I agree with everything you said on the men’s side except for the press medley. Tom was one of the only guys to manage to press the stone last year, should get through the dumbbell just fine, and has done really well in log press in the last year and a half. Won the log at rouge 2023, hit a 210 log at the WTF 2023, and was just a few seconds behind Trey and Mitchel in the log/axel medley at SMOE this year. I could see him being in the top 3 on that event if he’s in shape and healthy
I'm surprised you didn't mention Thor for the timber carry. He placed second last year and has a better PB than Maxime. He might bulk up too much for the deadlift and get somewhat worse at frame carrying as a result, but I think he's still worth talking about.
Should t be an issue. His former poor performances was because of a nerve impingement in his arm/elbow i cant remember but him and Brian talk about it on Thors latest appearence on Shaws podcast
These guys have no idea what they are talking about. All of their predictions are wrong all the time, they are constantly overestimating guys like maxime who ends up taking last place almost every time, and underestimating Thor every time. They have Hooper taking fourth in the frame, that should tell you everything basically
Last year the hype for the Arnold was crazy with the line up. However I think this year will be better because I think there are more guys in top shape that will be able to make every event interesting to chip points off each other
Personally I would place Tom higher on the Austrian Oak. His best at the 2023 Arnold's was 1 rep but he was using very little leg drive and his pressing has gotten SO much stronger since then. 3 reps for him wouldn't surprise me at all.
My dude, since Martins stopped competing, you've become my favorite to watch. And maybe I'm biased....bald...bearded...my strongest lift is my OHP.... haha. Wishing you the best my guy.
I would never bet again kielakowski not being on the podium but it’s very interesting with a few new events . Historically though any new event he normally wins it 😂
35:00 Tom is only the king of loading atlas stones with tacky. If it's to the shoulder, if it's a natural stone, or if there isn't tacky, he is very beatable
Mitch, Hatton, Tom for me. Really enjoying the channel and videos! Keep it up! Hopefully get some behind the scenes or days after arriving for the Arnold's!
I love these events with this field because all of the guys could be top 3 in at least one event to shake things up, and half the field could be top three overall without any crazy luck.
I’ve been watching the timber carry for years now. You cannot drop it on the incline because it is exponentially harder to lift it again off the incline.
Tom on S-to-S will be interesting. Yes, he's a tall athlete but he's also explosive. His stones are roughly equal to Thor's while his deadlift is weaker than Thor's. Training for last year's ASC, he did shoulder the actual tombstone as part of training.
We all hope our emails find Maxime well! On the men's side this has the potential to finish closer than most shows between like the top six placings - which would be exciting and welcome. For a guy that always comes 2nd when there's five events, having six should be a bonus for Mateusz. I *want* the podium to be some permutation from Mateusz, Thor, You, and Tom, but obvs hard to rule out Hooper and Trey mixing that up.
I think you guys are way underestimating Thor on every event other than the deadlift. Should be a hell of a competition though, murderers up and down the lineup.
It seems like every longer term veteran of the sport on the men’s side got banged up by the end of the year in 2024. Could really make for a wild mix up on the podium. Great take on everything 👍
Great stuff. Women - I can see Rebecca and Andrea on the podium. Men - if the press medley isn't based on times then could you see five or six tying on log reps? Given you mention more than half the field each time, I think it's an oversight to not mention the current WSM in the second, third and fifth events, I think he'll turn up well prepared. Good luck to you, you have a good shout!
Hey guys! Love the content--it's very clear, to the point, and as objective as it can be considering it's a competition you'll be in!!! But I would love to see chapter breaks in the timeline.
Really good events list and line-up. Do you think there's anything to be learned in terms of stone to shoulder technique from the Basque lifters? They definitely do it a little different and the record with a round stone of 211kg by Inaki Perurena is impressive.
Mitch has been going to Physio so hopefully the bicep is healing. Not sure about his back tho. Tom is quietly prepping under a new coach. Excited to see how he does. Andrade really could mess around and get second if he comes well peaked. Crazy fun show to predict
I think some of the 'non-contender' guys will be able to take a few points from Hooper, which hopefully benefits Mateusz. I just want to see Mateusz win at least one big competition. Deadlift shouldn't be the only thing that prevents him from winning a big comp, when he's amazing at almost every other event.
To me it's Mitch first, barring any injury preventing him from performing, Lucas 2nd, because I really don't see any weaknesses, and 3rd is going to be a real fight between Mateusz, Trey, and maybe Tom and Evan. I think the two pressing events will push Thor down too much because he won't outright win the 4 events.
@@hg_10sm68 Alec said she’s already done 170 so she’s probably gonna go for more, and Thor is lucky if he does better than 170. (I was mostly just joking anyway)
@@isaac_doesnt_lift Out of a rack on a barbell Thor will push press more than 200kg. People act like Thor is such a terrible presser now but he was 1 of only 5 guys who pressed the 170kg axle at Rogue on the last event
Giving a prediction is pretty tough because nobody's sharing their training or it's like 2 weeks behind real time. Everybody has at least 1 bad event except Hooper though
Think Tom is going to surprise you guys. Can see Tom podiuming for sure. His weaker events are deadlift (injury) and frame. He places 1-4 in every other event
Personally I think Hooper is locked in for first 2nd and 3rd will be Mateus and Tom but could really go either way. Would not be surprised if Tom came 2nd. The only person I think that has a realistic chance of getting between those 2 but not above them is Lucas. Lucas has potential to come 3rd and I don't think will drop out of the top 5. Thor funnily enough I don't even have making the top 5. If Evan gets the hand position on the frame right we could definitely see a top 5 finish.
Trey Mitchell has posted a video doing power jerk behind the neck, 445 lbs x 3 reps, do you think he can overtake Tom Stoltman on that event? 1-3 points higher for Trey.
You've made the mistake of overestimating what some guys are capable of at the ASC. It happens every year and never ends up the way people expect. Then you've underestimated what guys like Thor and Mateusz will do, despite the fact they are two guys who always show up at the ASC. Enjoying listening to you both but I guarantee you're wrong on a lot of things with this prediction.
I could see Hatton winning at least one pressing event. But think they’re slightly overrating his chances on every other event. Middle to lower pack. A level below Mateus,Tom, treys of this world
I think y’all are underselling Tom on both the pressing medley and the Timber Challenge. I think with the lighter stone press he should finish mid pack on the medley, and I think Tom is better than Thor on an event like Timber Challenge unless there is something I don’t know about.
And the stone to shoulder is a wildcard for him. He hasn’t been good on natural stone to shoulder in the past, but being able to train in the gym with his atlas stones will be huge for him.
Tom has been really emphasizing fitness with his new coach while Thor is bulking in preparation for the deadlift record. Unless the drag is stupidly heavy I can’t see Thor being better at that then Tom and even if it is they should be close. I may end up eating my words but I see them as equal if ends up being brutal and a lot of guys don’t finish and Tom having a sizable advantage of it’s fast.
@@lukebbuff Thor isn't really bulking & I also don't think the deadlift event is happening anymore. He's 'only' 420lbs, that's 10lbs less than he was at the Arnold & SMOE last year

Agreed and I think he's in better shape than last year based on the MVMC. Not a lot to base it on but he gave a smooth performance nonetheless
He won MVM and was 2nd last year
