Really enjoyed your video, a little life is one of my all time faves also, but for some reason I just can’t get into this book. So I came to watch some reviews to see if I should persevere but I have to say your video convinced me not too (that is not a negative thing!). I really resonated with what you said about putting the book down and forgetting about it. Such a different experience to a little life where I couldn’t stop thinking about the characters, and even now so long after finishing I still miss Jude as if he was a friend of mine ;( Anyway, thank you!
I’ve been putting off picking it up because of all the reviews. I loved A Little Life and don’t want to be disappointed in To Paradise. I also have been hesitant because of the dystopian section. We are such a mess over here and I can see us moving in the totalitarian direction and it scares the crap out of me. But you convinced me - I’m going to grab a copy today. Great vlog - RIP your nail 🪦
I’m the same with authors. I need to read at least three books before I consider them a favorite and I’ll give most authors three chances before I decide they’re not for me
I will need some convincing. While I agree Yanagihara writes beautifully I did not get along with A Little Life (relentless misery) and let's face it there are a lot of other books out there that I would prefer to read. If it turns up on a prize list then maybe. Hope you are feeling better.
Not gonna lie 🙂I picked this up in Waterstones ,read the blurb and put it back .😅 this video didn’t really changed my mind .😩 even though I was really hoping it would but I am glad you enjoyed it !
i loved her previous novels but this was such a miss for me. for something so long and so dense i felt like there was very little payoff, and the themes, characters, and plots felt very surface level for me. if a little life was about making the characters suffer, to paradise was about making the reader suffer.

You truly are one of the only people I watch for the vibes alone, I'm not interested in reading To Paradise at all but will I still watch your 40 minute video about it? Absolutley 😎
Lol I thought the person in the last section was a guy too...until it's revealed.. I can't understand why that was done. Glad it's not just me though . Fascinating to hear your thoughts as I found it very poor on characters... you don't really get to know characters other than a surface or intellectual level.. and the plot was a really jumble and mishmash of genres and styles leading nowhere.Really enjoyed the first part as a standalone though
I think I must be a tiny bit sadistic.. I seem to be developing a thing for watching videos of people who are really excited to read To Paradise and their experiences reading it. I was interested in reading it until I did.. It was at times an incoherent mess and I just couldnt pick up any themes or common links between the sections and was left unsure of what the author wanted to say and achieve, Second 2 was irrelevant and rambled into the tale of the father and sorry but do we care zzz Major disappointment and now I am no longer sure I want to bother with A Little Life.
"Like a French nine year old." 😂😂😂😂😂
😅😅
i absolutely loved it, but i also like and read a fair amount of dystopian and histfic, great to hear your thoughts, glad you're fully recovered!
Thanks Larry!
absolutely love your channel!!
Thank you!!

Fair enough. I definitely feel like it was the most restrained in terms of big plot or character pay offs
Aww. I just bought this book and now I wonder if I bought the wrong book and should have bought a little life.
hanuary 😂😂

How did u get it in October... Was it even finished then?
Not sure when it was finished but yep got my proof sent to me in October 😊
I just finished and I have very mixed feelings about it, same with People in the Trees.

Ahhh you’re so kind 💓 thank you!

the title says no spoilers but the content is littered with it 🥺
