I joined the Marines at 18. Me and a good Marine buddy got into a argument about how people become a product of their environment. He(came from a better neighborhood than me) argued that's BS, people make their own choices. I explained sometimes good kids can get caught up in their surroundings which can adversely impact them. This documentary is another example of that. Good kids that live in bad neighborhoods have to dodge gangs jumping you, hustlers trying to get you to make easy money and also the COPS putting false cases on you. This is so sad.

As a former police officer with the City of Miami Police Department for over 7 years, I can confirm that this is the most accurate documentary that I have seen on crime + punishment for police officers that do not conform or play the games that the brass wants or expect of you. The NYPD is a brave bunch. Bullying and blackballing are persistent in most police departments in the United States. I had the misfortune of serving under one of Bratton's named deputies in this film Jhon Timony, who exported this system to the City of Miami Police Department. Lt. Willie Cruz, Sgt M. Moreen. and Major Richard Perez all of you are worthy of Investigations by the DOJ.

@vctjkhme Bull$h!t. The fact that a society contains psychopaths and "perpetual children" (been reading Jordan Peterson, have we?) does not mean that it is in any way acceptable for law enforcement to behave in the arbitrary and corrupt manner shown so clearly in this film. Apparently you're too dense to grasp that the NYPD is exploiting the "dysfunctional legal regime" you describe in such a long winded manner to inflate the city's budget. Or, rather, to prevent that budget from being deflated by penny pinching conservatives. The fact that the problem begins much higher up than the cop on the street doesn't mean that there isn't a policing problem. It's a top down systemic and cultural problem that begins with the mayor, filters down through the district judiciary and manifest itself, finally, on the street as a policing problem. The police are part of that legal system too. Other developed countries don't have this kind of issue with policing, and many of them have legal systems that are _far_ more liberal in the way criminals are treated.

I'm from a working class area in Ireland that has its challenges. Although the system isn't perfect it certainly doesn't go out of its way to criminalise our youth or general populace. Actually it works to the contrary. So yes there is an alternative. I'm sure the hearing was postponed as a retaliation for not taking the please deal. Many will sit in jail waiting for a trial and then finally give in to a plea deal just to get out of jail.

Sadly this is the SAME system in Child Protective Services! Social Workers are retaliated if they do not maintain "quotas" in closing cases that they do not generate $$$ for....even if these cases need continued monitoring or follow-up when the kids go back to parents. Many kids are removec when thy could have remained in their homes with some basic services. 90-95% of kids are removed for neglect because of the parent's addiction to drugs. Substance abuse programs provided to the parents are staticially proven to be "ineffective" because they are only 30-60 days long and staff are usually inexperienced free interns for again....companies who focus on PROFITS $$$ not success rates. As a result, the recidivism rate (kids come back into the system) is so high. 500+ kids in foster care system at one given time and many spending they whole lives bouncing from foster home to foster home. Many....many being neglected and physically and sexually abused by Christian Foster Family Agencies (covered up by the County Foster Care System and NEVER get prosecuted). Foster Parents PROFIT FINANCIALLY $$$ off housing these kids. Understand these Foster Parents WORK against the biological parents so they can keep pulling in the $$$ monthly which is in California about $950 to $1,200 per kid per month. There are good Foster Parents, but unfortunately there are more bad ones than good ones. I worked 12 years for Riverside County Child Protective Sevices (CPS) so I know this for a fact.

I feel that the worst part of this entire show was the young man that spent the better part of a year in jail even though he was innocent. That alone is enough to show just how broken the system is. Also, they kept offering him plea deals that would get him out of the jail but then he would have a permanent record of a crime he didn’t commit. Makes you wonder how many people out there with the same problem. I was arrested once and the same thing happened to me. They kept offering me a deal and I said no way because I was innocent. Eventually they dropped all charges against me because I was innocent. Luckily I didn’t spend a year in jail but that had more to do with overcrowding than anything else. So much respect for that young man and I hope he takes advantage of that scholarship and goes far in life. Maybe he will become a defence attorney

I live near Montefiore Hospital and North Central Hospital on Mashula Parkway couldn’t find a parking circle the block Parked on the side of the street that says no parking it will after 7 PM a van full of cops came by and eyeball me so I looked back at them. Not thinking of anything two minutes later that same van circled the block came behind my car with the lights on, and told me to get out of my car for no apparent reason I refused, they surrounded my car and said if I don’t get out the car they were gonna pepper spray me and pull me out the car no one that I have my CDL. I did not want to take a chance so I got out the car and was arrested for having a pocket knife on my keychain, which was 1 inch blade That I use to cut boxes on my job as a truck driver Worker for moving company they arrested me on a Saturday brought me to central bookings and I stood there for three days. I should have sued them if I would have known better then, and if I would’ve had the time, I would have had a lawsuit wind up Dropping all charges and gave me a Mark on my record for disturbing the peace I am so angry watching this video. I wish I would have just sued them now here we are in 2024 and I’m trying to get my gun permit and had to get my records to show them that I had a mark on my record, it’s a disgrace I don’t blame the police.
