I love my Ice Adventure HD 26 RS with the EgroLux seat. I buy/sell gently used recumbent trikes and have owned 55 trikes over the past 3 years. I’m 62 years old, 6’ and 220 pounds. It is the most comfortable trike I’ve owned. I have not owned a HP Scorpion.
i tested the ice adventure hd fs with egrolux seat. comfortable. easy to get in and out. my other choice is a catrike dumont. I am a new rider, need it fo daily exercise i am 64 years old 200 lbs. which is better for what I do? I will get one with the pedal assist. thanks in advance
@@aponoypi I’m 63, 220 with lots of arthritis. The HD is a wider deeper seat. Egro Lux seat is the most comfortable. You may or may not need/want the HD. The Dumont has a bit less suspension travel. The HP Scorpion has more suspension travel and is another option with a nice seat. Dumont-$, Ice-$$, HP-$$$. Can’t go wrong with either. I found an Ice HD gently used and had a Falco hub motor added. $6k instead of 10-12k. Good luck!
Thanks for the review, really solidified my decision to save up for an ICE Adventure. I miss the cheaper prices of regular bikes but I had an accident on two wheels that resulted in three knee surgeries and panic attacks on bikes. Thanks for the review!
I've been riding an Adventure HD with "Full Suspension" for a couple of years now. Quotes because the travel is very limited. The suspension takes the edge off of sidewalk cracks, but over tree roots or even grass with hidden bumps you had better be sitting bolt upright or you will be risking spinal cord injury. I am currently shopping for something with a "Real" suspension. SteinTrike Wild One and Azub TiFly are on my short list.
Great review. Trikes with a lower pedal crank height relative to seat height prevent numb feet (and recumbent butt) so the Ice Adventure makes great sense to me.
I have a 2017 AZUB T-Tris 26.. love it.. tried to order the DreamSeat (a $270 upgrade). but found out that because i'm pre 2018 model, i have to buy a seat frame $580 + $270 DreamSeat... the old seat frame is 14" wide, the new frame is 15".. Can't justify $850 for a cushion.. LOL. I would have spent the $270 on a new mesh.. SAD AZUB made my trike seat obsolete.. kinda like computers and peripherals..?
Does the seat lean back? I have a spinal fusion occiput to C3 so comfort is super important especially in the neck & back. Leaning & lying more flat than upright is generally more comfortable for me.
Some "regular" shops will be able to service trikes, but the issue often comes down to if they have a repair stand that will hold a trike for service. Most of the parts are the same, but having the right repair stand is usually the issue.
Hello Tim! Another great video. I'm at the weight limit of the HD, but plan on not being there forever. I like the extra size of the HD, but would like a little lower seat height. Are these seats adjustable for height?
At times during the video, it looks as if you were turning the trike with one hand. Is it really that easy to steer? I have diminished hand strength and would be concerned about steering and braking.
I would. I have a terrible back. Used to ride my diamond frame everyday without fail. Age and deterioration is taking its toll. My Adventure makes riding fun again.
Drums are supposedly more trouble-free but my experience has been: * When things get weird (as in one of my drums locking up) the moving parts are out of view - making troubleshooting difficult. * When you pull a wheel with Sturmey drum brakes, there is a little collet that, if you are not expecting it, can drop into the grass and be lost - semi-stranding you. * Although it is rare to get water into drums, when it happens, they make a *lot* of noise for quite a long while. * Replacing brake shoes looks to me like a non-trivial task. * Replacement drums appear to be Sturmey-Archer proprietary. I converted to cable-actuated discs and find that: * The modulation is far, far, far superior. * When things go south, all the moving parts are in plain view. * Replacing pads is a trivial task * Replacement pads are non-proprietary and widely-available. * If you dump enough water on discs, they will lose braking power for a few seconds, but in real-world use they are immune to water-related problems.
I really like these recumbent bikes but they’re just too expensive it’s hard to pay for $5000 for a bike you can almost buy a small car for that type of money used of course but still
True...still can't get over the panic attack after seeing the price tag. These can easily go up to $9000 and I have a yamaha motorcycle cost in that neighborhood.
I think there are still some very good trikes and I certainly think that the HP Velotechnik Schorpion FS is a very good one to compete with, the best trike. I've had both trikes and still have the ICE. In terms of handling, the HP provides a little more comfort with its suspension behavior. The ICE Adventure HD immediately feels sportier and you can also corner a little faster with it.
that depends on what equipment is being used. You should be able to replicate the gearing of a traditional bike. If you want more range, consider a Rholoff and Schumph drive that combo plus a small ring can climb anything short of vertical.
I'm curious to know how the Ice Adventure compares with the HP Velotechnik Gekko. I'm thinking of buying either one of those, and would be interested to hear from anyone who's ridden both. Maybe you could do a video comparing them... please?
Just starting out my recumbent trike search--in terms of TerraTrike, ICE, and Catrike--are the all pretty comparable in terms of build quality and features includes? Is there one brand that stands out among others? Right now im between the TerraTrike EVO, ICE Adventure, and the E-Cat Dumont.
It would be better if it had four tires, was wrapped with steel for protection and had some type of motor oh wait then it would be a car. But seriously does a bicycle need to be that expensive?
@@jimmysapien9961 true but who wants to spend so much on a bicycle? Though to be honest a lot of people seem to be enjoying them. I guess they live in the area where they can ride them. I live in the city where you'd likely get run over.
It is a good trike but, the most comfortable, no, I use a ICE Adventure HD 26 with a higher seat, it rides great but coblestone roads and with Schwalbe Marathon plus tirers on 4,5bar it is realy not comfortable. But on tarmark and the great dutch cyclepads, it rides like a dream.
I own an ICE Adventure HD. I have had it 3 years. I am moving to Boulder, CO this week. I love this bike and I can't wait to ride Boulder!
I have a trike like this and he ain't lying about how comfortable this trike is. I love it so much!

It’s a lot more expensive
Great review!
Ice trikes are one of my favorites. I currently ride a 20 yr old Greenspeed GTO. Trike tech has accelerated since mine was made.

The seat position is fairly flexible but if you are looking to really lay back, you might be better off with a Sprint or VTX.
Hey Tim
Another question. Can you have these trikes serviced at regular bike shops if you don’t live near a trike dealer?

No way to lower the seat, but reclining the seat can give you more room.
A really good review, thanks for this.
Great video Tim
At times during the video, it looks as if you were turning the trike with one hand. Is it really that easy to steer? I have diminished hand strength and would be concerned about steering and braking.
Yes, the indirect steering makes it easy to steer. ICE can build a trike with all the controls on one side if that is easier for you.
Thanks Tim for a nice, concise review.
Would you recommend this model for people with spine or knee injuries?
I would. I have a terrible back. Used to ride my diamond frame everyday without fail. Age and deterioration is taking its toll. My Adventure makes riding fun again.
Hi all. Im a runner former road guy looking into the trike. Can I get thoughts on disk vs drum? Thanks for your time.
Both stop the trike but drums tend to stay cleaner and last longer. Disks are stronger and not subject to heat fade on long downhill runs.
Drums are supposedly more trouble-free but my experience has been:
* When things get weird (as in one of my drums locking up) the moving parts are out of view - making troubleshooting difficult.

How are they on large hill climbing?
That ultimately depends on the rider, but as long as you shift into an easy spinning gear, you should not have trouble.
What’s the smallest gear inches possible on the ICE?
that depends on what equipment is being used. You should be able to replicate the gearing of a traditional bike. If you want more range, consider a Rholoff and Schumph drive that combo plus a small ring can climb anything short of vertical.

Better than HP with 1.5" strut suspensions??
HP leads the way in suspension in terms of ride, but the Adventure has a great ride without suspension.
is it suitable for world tour sir
Yes, The trike is very well built and can carry racks for lots of gear.
Sir what is the price and where you deliver
That trike starts at just over $5,000. We fit riders to the trikes so we need the rider at the shop to size it correctly.
what is the max speed in km/h?
I have had a trike like that up to 40 kph, but actual results would depend on the engine and the incline.
