    No one really knows what’s in the deep ocean in Antarctica. Now we have the technology to reach into the ocean depths, we accompanied scientist and deep-sea explorer Jon Copley and became the first to descend to 1000 meters underwater in Antarctica for Blue Planet II. The exotic creatures we found there will astonish you.
    This video is a part of Our Blue Planet, a joint venture between OceanX and BBC Earth to get people talking about the ocean. Join the conversation on Twitter: @OurBluePlanet.

      They have never seen light because they are blind. Im serious. Mother nature did gave them eyes but they can't see anything even tho there is light. Since these creatures live in dark as long as they exist. So technically most of them have eyes but none of them can't see anything. They were born blind because they don't need their sense of vision cause their home is darkness. But they have good sense of smell and they can hear very well that's how they survive

      But that's what I'm saying: You don't need to do one before you do the other. Get the idea out of your head that space exploration is impinging on deep sea (terrestrial) exploration, because it's not. Both are occuring simultaniously and to stop space exploration wouldn't mean an increase in terrestrial exploration - That's not how funding works.

      And we’re here, living on it... But it’s only amazing to us because we are sufficiently intelligent to acknowledge it... but to one of those crustaceans, it’s like ... ‘so what, where the plankton at?’ Or whatever it is they eat 🤷‍♂️

    It's crazy to think all of the occurrences they captured in this video typically occur in total darkness, and this is probably the first time many, if not all, of these specific organisms have seen light, artificial or natural.

    • @joshuaharrell554
      @joshuaharrell554 Рік тому +22

      Some of the organisms surface at some points in their life cycles, so they had seen light further up in the ocean. The others lost their photoreceptors, because they are no longer necessary for organisms that live their entire lives in darkness, and it would waste energy to keep making anatomical features that serve no purpose. So they can't "see" light, and if they can, it wouldn't be their first time.

      Many may have specialized vision, infrared or sonar capabilities, so they see, but not what we see. Jelly fish and other simple life don’t see, they just float around hoping to bump into some food. Those arthropods that light up, must be able to see?
