I just read a book about Ernest Shackleton who was an explorer in the early twentieth century. And seeing this video where you cross the Drakes Passage in this enormous ship, it is crazy that he did the same in a 12 feet long emergency boat filled with rocks, almost no food and water for after to mountains with only a rope, FOR then to start several rescue mission to save his crew that were stuck on a beach on Elephant Island in the Antarctics. Nobody died. And how the world have changed to today, my god 🙌

there are so many beautiful amazing places in other places on Earth, i don't think i have finished the whole planet to start going to Antarctica. I have gone kayaking in some fantastic places hard to describe how beautiful it was, i honestly don't need to do what in extreme cold so far away from any country

But I cannot help think that this kind of content is what inspires more humans to visit and taking away from the pristineness of these places. Not only this feels like an extremely anthropocentric experience, but prioritises "getting the experience" over leaving these extremely precious biomes alone. I just went to the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido, Japan this winter. I saw the ice in the Sea of Okhotsk and it was the most ethereal experience. I've always wanted to go to Antarctica and after seeing this video I know I will.
