Re-watching older videos I sure miss you Andrea 💜. You have helped me with so much from homeschool to home organization. R.I.P. sweat lady 🙏🤗 Thank you Tom for keeping these videos up ❤
This program is so well designed. We followed the ACE program for one year with my oldest son when he was in grade 5. He flourished. When he went back to mainstream school he was ahead of his peers and so much more self-directed.
I take my hat off to you. Managing your day with the ability to immediately jump from age group to age group (with the age groups in your home school) is a skill that you have mastered so well!
Yeah, I can imagine her in some different life as a teacher in a one room schoolhouse. Not everyone likes grade mixing but this shows you how well it can work with the right teacher.
I have a funny story for you Andrea... (i was homeschooled) when I was in 5th grade, my Mom tried PACE & it was my first experience with it & my Mom was also very ill during my childhood with a muscular disease & migraines & she got my first week of school packet ready & then told me to start in the first book & work my way to the next books. She laid down... 3 hrs later she checked on me & I had completed the entire packet.... She was so tickled & annoyed at the same time lol. So needless to say, she was very specific about what I needed to do next time!
OK, that was hilarious when Justus asked Thomas to take the cardboard piece and put it up and Thomas grabbed the busy bee head piece and placed it back onto his head. Then Justus looked over at his mom with a expression like now what do I do. You replied just take it and go around the table and put it away. That was funny a big brother moment.
Back to school time .... everyone looked excited :0) I loved the busy bee antennas, when I was a kid I loved those then there were called dilly bopers , LOL The owls the kids made were so adorable ! And Sophia and Solomon looked so stinkin cute in there new outfits ! Love An blessings Xxxx kiM
Loved this video, of course I love all your videos. Your kids are so kind to one another. They're learning it from you, your kindness and patience are so refreshing to watch. Thank you for sharing your beautiful life with us. ❤️Donna
Thank you for sharing! These are wonderful moments and traditions. This brought so much joy and encouragement to our day. We're not a large family (only 5 kids total, 3 miscarriages) but I'm postpartum and feeling the mileage of these last 9 years. We're looking for new school ideas. Your binder/notebook system is something we might try.
Oh ho ho ho! This is the best thing EVER! I'm going to get my own busy-bee ears and when I'm wearing them......DONT BOTHER ME! Lol. I'm reading!!!! Bwahahaha!
Good luck with your new School year! We already have autumn holidays and tomorrow there is a public holiday: 500 years Reformation! So I am sitting in the kitchen , cutting apples for cake and bingewatching your videos. Greetings from Germany!
Hi Andrea, Your charts and tables are so awesome! I've tried to copy your clothing and shopping ones. Would you consider making more available on your website? You could even sell them :)
Wowsers! I went through your channel after watching videos, couldn't find it,then went to bottom of video and there it is. I have never went to the bottom, only and always to 👍 up.hehehe.Bless you Mills family.
Hi Andrea, I started to watch this much anticipated vlog last night but i was so exhausted I fell asleep in my chair. When I woke up several hours later, I realized i had slept through the whole thing. Dang it! Oh well, i watched it tonight and it was great to see everyone doing their school work and playing.. Thanks for sharing.
hiya andrea,i just had an odd idea that viewers like me,could send a postcard of where we live that is outside the u.s so the kids could find out on a map of the world, and maybe write a little bit about our part of the world, just a thought, best wishes
At 34:12 was that "The Voice of Tom" lol? I thought it was Thomas for a minute but his lips weren't moving. 🙂 I wish every kid could be homeschooled. Looks like a great start to 2017-2018!
Last year I asked Tom to record his voice to use in our bell system. We need to redo it since it doesn't quite fit how we're doing things now, but, yes, that was Tom! We've switched back to doing chores in the morning rather than at 1:00 which is what that "bell" was announcing. :)
Andrea Mills Thank you Andrea! It feels like a great fit for us. We will be following along with your family as part of our weekly routine. All the best :)
What a great first week. I was so excited to see an hour vlog. Yay! I have a question. I know you're a Walmart online shopper like me. I was doing my shopping over the last couple of days just filling my cart - have you noticed prices of items have almost doubled online??? Ouch!
I can't stand broken crayons. The kids I work with never want to use them... so I found the Crayole twistables, and they were on sale for less then 1.50$ for a pack of 24. It has been well worth the extra cost. The other thing I like is the Crayola crayon maker that melts down old crayons and makes new ones. I never knew what a neat freak Thomas was. He was so funny with the glitter on the headbands. LOL!
Thomas is very particular. We often bump heads over how things should be organized. I get something the way I like it and he comes along and changes it to the way _he_ likes it. I often go to bed at night and the bathroom is a mess, but when I get up in the morning it's all tidy. He needed to use it in the night and had to tidy up the room first. :) I really like the Twistables, too. The only annoying thing about them is when someone snaps the crayon off the base and it continuously falls out. We've tried remelting it to make it stick, but it doesn't last. Have you had to deal with that?
Andrea Mills, Thomas sounds so much like my sister. She will move things in the dishwasher if my mom puts them in "the wrong" spot. I have never had to deal with the twistables breaking from the base. The twistables colored pencils always snap on me though.
Andrea, the pics on their charts they colored.. I think we own the same ones. They are lovely!!! I forgot the name but they are so nice, I make copies for the kids and they don't get to use the real book. Haha :)
Hey Tom, I saw on someone elses channel, that they took a little rotary file and filed down the camera opening in their battery pack case. They were impressed, especially since they didn't have to purchase another case 😄.
Andrea Mills I feel like a dunce, I don't know what I was thinking. It was Tom's video that I watched a week ago, and of course it was not a rotary tool, it was a soldering tool. He made it work so well!! I apologize!! 😊🕊🌈❤️
Hi Andrea. My name is Monica, during your Q&A dinner, I said I wanted to make your children a gift for Christmas.Well...I am almost done, only two left, where can I send it?Love your postcard idea! thanks!😘
I copied them from the Family Tresures coloring book. www.amazon.com/Family-Treasure-Coloring-Book/dp/0984215689/ I don't remember where I got it, but I love the pictures in it. They very much mirror homeschool family life.
Would you be able to share a schedule of what you do during a school day. I'm trying to see how long a typical school day takes if they are scheduled year round or just the school months. My husband is a pastor and I believe ACE would be a good fit for us.We still need to schedule visiting times when we go out and door knock and other activities. I have 4 kids 11,9,7,5 and it's a little difficult with the current curriculum. I tried going through your videos but just saw the one with the White board.
So u know when you said you are going to pages or like pictures and stuff for each subject at my school we call the rivision pages they are great you can do one on decimals bidmas prime numbers I don't know verbs adverbs😍
I was curious about that too. When I look at the ages and grades of her kids, they don't seem to 100% match. It looked like Eden is a little ahead too when you compare grade and age? I guess that's the flexibility homeschooling gives you. Though also kids' birthdays don't neatly line up with the school year.
I start a child every other year, even if their birthdays aren't quite right. I don't want to have a Kindergartener and a First Grader at the same time because I need to spend more time with them. (Asher and Judah are the exception that helped me make this decision.) If someone really wasn't ready to start, I'd wait, but so far I've felt comfortable starting some of the kids early. Sophia will start Kindergarten next year while she's still 4. Claudia will be 5 when she starts in 2020. The new baby will also be 5 when he/she starts Kindergarten in 2022.
+Andrea Mills It is kind of cool to think of the kind of student-teacher ratio you get in kindergarten and grade one when _two_ kids is too many, LOL. My kindergarten was about twenty!
Awesome idea - that makes sense. I was just trying to process if you did it according to each child's ability or if there was another factor. I have a 4 year old right now and so far have been using the K program with him based on what you did with Solomon. Thanks for your input! :)
Yes, Sophia isn't going to start Kindergarten till next year, but she does have her own binder of coloring books and markers so she can have school when she wants to. (I think we were _all_ a bit tired and cranky during this week!)
Yes, do you think it's because Sophia is becoming older and has real interest?.....Claudia may be feeling she's not getting all the love and attention she usually gets from her brothers and sisters!
How is the Minecraft game? I bought it for my son for his birthday this year, but then forgot to grab it before everything got packed for our move, and so we didn’t have it for his birthday. I’ll have to give it to him for christmas instead. Hoping it’s fun!
We're using these study carrels from Oriental Trading. They come in a package of 6 for $18. www.orientaltrading.com/watercolor-study-carrels-a2-13774788.fltr?keyword=study+carrel
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is so helpful to see the binders put together. You have the patience of Job with all the kids talking at once ha ha. I love the idea of busy bee ears to stop the talking. I think most homeschool moms have problems with too much talking and not enough working. :) We all make it through though. Is Sophia in kindergarten this year? I can't remember if she's 4 or 5. Such fun putting in the new school supplies. That's my favorite part. Thank you again for all your hard work in making these videos. Carla
Sophia is still 3; she'll start Kindergarten next year. (I start someone every other year.) She has a binder of coloring books and markers so she can play "school" along with us when she wants to. If Claudia ever expresses interest, I suppose we'll set her up with a binder, too. So far she doesn't seem into it. She just likes to steal markers and color her arms and face! :)
Hi! I was wondering which Greek curriculum you all are using? We're starting Greek but haven't found anything yet that really works. :( Thanks and Happy Homeschooling.
We don't use a particular curriculum, but we draw ideas from several places. I can't think what any of them are called at the moment. We really just kind of do our own thing.
Does your curriculum include any AP courses like public high schools offer to their students? Also, after Thomas graduates, do you think the change between him being homeschooled all these years and him going going to a public college (if he decides to go) will affect him largely?
Do the kids have the opportunity to learn foreign languages and art and do extracurricular activities (Chess, sports, photography, TV production, etc.) that are offered in public school?
I actually didn't intend to give them to him when I bought them, but he's a good sport. Some of the kids have really enjoyed having them, but we don't plan to use them long. It's been nice, though, to have the visual reminder that's it's time to focus quietly.
Poor Thomas with the glitter. I'm with you, my friend. It's really pretty and all but I don't want it all over my stuff! :D Is there any particular reason you choose to do trimesters rather than semesters? It's all the same in the end, of course, just less common in American schooling. I've always wondered about it but never got around to asking before.
I decided to do it that way some years ago when I felt like I'd like our family to live more in sync with the seasons. We began waiting until the beginning of fall to start school and it naturally comes out that 12 week terms line up with the seasons. We do 12 weeks of school which brings us right up to the beginning of winter and Christmas break. After Christmas break, we do 12 more weeks bringing us up to spring and Easter break. Then we do our final 12 weeks bringing us to the beginning of summer.
Greek and Latin are also the base words to where our English comes from, it can help them with medical terminology and to have an expanded vocabulary and better understanding of our language. We do Greek and Latin with My Father's World.
Yes, he usually does his school work in Tom's office (our business) that's in our walk-out basement. He takes care of customers that come in while he does his school work. I'm having him work upstairs with the rest of us for the first couple of weeks while we get the school year established. On Fridays, Thomas goes out on appointments with Tom so he can get his driving practice. This past Friday, he worked on his school work in the car while Tom was in the homes/businesses doing the computer repairs. (Asher helps customers on Friday, with my supervision, while Thomas is out so he can learn that job.) In general, all of the kids work independently most of the time. Solomon will still need my constant help until Christmas. He'll be more independent once he's learned to read.
I buy them from a teacher supply store, but you can get them on Amazon. Here's a link to get you started: www.amazon.com/Carson-Dellosa-Multiplication-Stickers-168069/dp/1609964357/
Hello Andrea,I'm Liz. I'm not sure of the best way to contact you but I have nearly a year's worth of the Kindergarten/Learning to Read ACE Paces. (They may not be the latest edition.) If you would like them please let me know. (I have left a couple of other notes.)
Hi Elizabeth! Yes, we'd be glad to use any PACEs you have. We still have at least 3 more kids that will go through Kindergarten so we can always use them!
Re-watching older videos I sure miss you Andrea 💜. You have helped me with so much from homeschool to home organization. R.I.P. sweat lady 🙏🤗 Thank you Tom for keeping these videos up ❤

Oh. My. Word! I laughed so hard at that! Thank you Thomas, for just being your wonderful self.

Great video Andrea as always. Love to all the mills family from the UK :) the soup looked yummy too :)
Yay! Another year begins. I get my homeschool fix. My last year was 2007/8. I especially miss the younger years.

I'm so glad to hear that! I hope you guys are having a great first year!
Andrea Mills Thank you Andrea! It feels like a great fit for us. We will be following along with your family as part of our weekly routine. All the best :)
Heaven must be missing 8 angels because they are at your house!

You have a beautiful family
O my gosh I love Solomon he's so cute
I know! He's such a cutie pie.
Andrea, the pics on their charts they colored.. I think we own the same ones. They are lovely!!! I forgot the name but they are so nice, I make copies for the kids and they don't get to use the real book. Haha :)
Hi everyone, from buffalo, ny. Love to all. Dee
I have MANY different postcards I wanted to send you guys real soon! But I really need to wait till I can get the letter done!
The cardboard divider things, what are they called and where do you get them??? I seriously need those!
They're called Study Carrels from Oriental Trading. They come in a pack of 6 for $18.
I cannot wait to watch when I put my 5 littles to bed. It's my own time, although my kids know all your kids names.
Hey Tom, I saw on someone elses channel, that they took a little rotary file and filed down the camera opening in their battery pack case. They were impressed, especially since they didn't have to purchase another case 😄.
I meant to put a card up for Tom's video. I'll have to go back and do that!
Andrea Mills I feel like a dunce, I don't know what I was thinking. It was Tom's video that I watched a week ago, and of course it was not a rotary tool, it was a soldering tool. He made it work so well!! I apologize!! 😊🕊🌈❤️
That's funny! I thought you were talking about Tom the whole time. I didn't watch his video so I didn't know what tool he used. :)
What kind of toys do the kids play with? How many toys do they have? Do you buy educational/Montessori toys? Do you have a large collection of books?
Great video! Where did you get the learning stickers? The multiplication and alphabet charts? I need those
Hi Andrea. My name is Monica, during your Q&A dinner, I said I wanted to make your children a gift for Christmas.Well...I am almost done, only two left, where can I send it?Love your postcard idea! thanks!😘
Hi Monica! Our address is in the description box of all of our videos so you can find it any time you're ready.
Did you make a coloring page of your family? How did you do that?
I copied them from the Family Tresures coloring book. www.amazon.com/Family-Treasure-Coloring-Book/dp/0984215689/ I don't remember where I got it, but I love the pictures in it. They very much mirror homeschool family life.
Preach🙌🏼
My was so excited when she realized her and Solomon were in the same grade. She didn't do ACE last year so I don't think she realized it.
Where did you get those stickers for place value and cursive?
You can get them on Amazon. Here's a link for the cursive: www.amazon.com/Dellosa-Cursive-Alphabet-Stickers-168072/dp/1609964381/
So u know when you said you are going to pages or like pictures and stuff for each subject at my school we call the rivision pages they are great you can do one on decimals bidmas prime numbers I don't know verbs adverbs😍
Did you start using the ACE curriculum learning to read with Solomon when he was still 4? If so, will he graduate at an earlier age than his siblings?
I was curious about that too. When I look at the ages and grades of her kids, they don't seem to 100% match. It looked like Eden is a little ahead too when you compare grade and age? I guess that's the flexibility homeschooling gives you. Though also kids' birthdays don't neatly line up with the school year.

May I ask what Thomas is doing for his electives? :) I don't think I mentioned this; but, I was homeschooled from 7th on and we used ACE. :)
Love Emma's idea.....btw, I am thinking perhaps Claudia is a bit cranky because now everybody is in school but her! She may be feeling left out....?
I thought Sofia wasn't in school either? At least not officially - she seemed to enjoy listening in.
+Andrea Mills Oops, sorry for spelling Sophia's name wrong! I think because I know a little girl called Sofia.
As my Norwegian grandmother would say...."vunderbar!" (ok...it's German but for some reason, she always said it)
How is the Minecraft game? I bought it for my son for his birthday this year, but then forgot to grab it before everything got packed for our move, and so we didn’t have it for his birthday. I’ll have to give it to him for christmas instead. Hoping it’s fun!

thank you x
jolene nicholson its in the description x
Do the kids have the opportunity to learn foreign languages and art and do extracurricular activities (Chess, sports, photography, TV production, etc.) that are offered in public school?
Why happened to tom's old iphone?
He still has it. He only got the new one a few days ago so he still hasn't decided what he's going to do with it.
*what (correction)
In the library, did Asher ever figure out that a teddy bear was photo-bombong him?
Thomas may lose his busy bee ears soon good luck with the rest of them
I actually didn't intend to give them to him when I bought them, but he's a good sport. Some of the kids have really enjoyed having them, but we don't plan to use them long. It's been nice, though, to have the visual reminder that's it's time to focus quietly.
good idea actually; because with everybody is in the big room as reminder its good to get back into the school routine
Poor Thomas with the glitter. I'm with you, my friend. It's really pretty and all but I don't want it all over my stuff! :D

We do 12 weeks of school which brings us right up to the beginning of winter and Christmas break. After Christmas break, we do 12 more weeks bringing us up to spring and Easter break. Then we do our final 12 weeks bringing us to the beginning of summer.
I like this idea!!! I think I may do this when I start homeschooling. My daughter is only 17 mo though lol
Wow, that's super cool. I don't know whether I would ever have thought of that. I love it!
Not sure if this has been answered before, but can I ask why Greek?
The New Testament was originally written in Greek so we enjoy learning the original meaning of words because it's very enlightening.
Greek and Latin are also the base words to where our English comes from, it can help them with medical terminology and to have an expanded vocabulary and better understanding of our language. We do Greek and Latin with My Father's World.
Does Thomas work on his own? My 10th grader is 100% on her own. It's nice to have the time to work with my 7th grader
Where did you get the charts the kids stuck inside their binders?
I buy them from a teacher supply store, but you can get them on Amazon. Here's a link to get you started: www.amazon.com/Carson-Dellosa-Multiplication-Stickers-168069/dp/1609964357/
Is that the face recognition phone?
No, Tom didn't want that one. He thought it would be annoying to have to look at your phone to open it. It's the iPhone 8.
