Casio gshock 5600 line, cheap great watch. dw5600e-1v (economy) gwm5610-1(solar) dw5600hr-1(black red layer) gw-m5610bc-1jf is the one with combi bracelet, very cool.
I've owned MANY G-Shocks over the last thirty years, and it never fails, I ALWAYS come back to the classic squares. Iconic, unobtrusive, tough, and cannot be beat!.
It's gotta be way up there on the list. Great water and shock resistance, easy to use, nice sized display, all the basic timekeeping complications with no extraneous functions, sized perfectly for an adult male without being comically oversized. If it was a hard rock CD, it would be referred to as "all killer, no filler". Ok, there is that one setting with the hourly chime, where you can set it to flash the display for a second, the band is mildly uncomfortable for the first couple days and I really wish the buckle was black... But really, if those are the biggest gripes I can find with it, then yeah, Casio really knocked it out of the park with their G-Shock squares.
Casio G-Shock has broken the Guinness World Record for “The heaviest vehicle to drive over a watch” on October 30, 2017. In order to break the record, the watch needed to be running properly after being driven over by at least a 20-ton truck. On October 30, 2017, a 24.97-ton (49940 pound) truck drove over a G-Shock DW-5600E-1. The watch was placed face-up and driven over by three tires. It did not sustain any significant damage and still functioned normally. The DW-5600E-1 is the only watch to successfully pass the challenge and this is G-Shock’s first Guinness World Records title. Now i truly understand why people would want negative display. Those who are more an outdoor person will appreciate the negative display because it is easier to see under the sun.
The square 5600 series of Casio watches are probably the best made and most practical watches in the industry. I have the solar radio controlled watch. I wear it from time to time. Great watch. It has multiple alarms, world time, UTC, stop watch with lap, count down, and the normal type of time and date. The one I have is the Japanese version made in Japan. I imported it from Japan. The version I have is the new updated one. My preference is for the plain black ones. As for accuracy if the time signal is not able to be received the 5600 that I have is keeping better than 5 seconds per month. This is good enough for my type of use.
I have the first 5600 model you showed. I love it.Such a great watch, and for the price you don't have to worry about losing it, breaking it, etc. Also more understated than a lot of the other gshock models.
Absolutely fantastic watches. The Atomic solar has to be THE Zombie apocalypse timepiece! I bought a G Shock soon after they first came out, my one was known as the Hero, the advert included ice hockey players using it as a puck, to show its incredible durability. I bought mine in 1984 and I kid you not, it works like a dream to this day. I have just had the lithium battery changed 3 times, it went to the first gulf war, in the sand and grit, in the sea numerous times and it was just the plastic fascia that gave up the ghost in the end. I bought a replacement from Brazil, of all places. I would definitely like to get the Tough Solar one as it'd be the ultimate Tool/ Work/ Beater watch. What I did notice about the solar one is that the top left button is not recessed, anyone know why that is so? I have 12 watches now, with Seiko mechanicals being my favourite, but I really need to get one of these Atomic jobs. Great video, by the way!
Zombie Apocalypse?! So when the world is in flames, the sun is blocked because of particles in the sky after nuclear blast, and all the satellites are destroyed...this is the one to wear? I think a manual wind will be a better choice.
Mattias Filander you do realize that the 5610 is powered by both natural light and artificial light. And can last up to 10 months with a single charge. I doubt the whole world would be in flames and block out the sun. Not really possible. Especially a zombie apocalypse like the original comment said. Mechanical watches are good but they do lose a ton of time after every month and not having anything reliable to set it back accurately is a bad thing. Even your cheap quartz watch loses like 1-5 seconds a month. So on average you’ll be off a minute after one year. Plus with a mechanical watch it’s glassware compared to a G-shock. One good knock and you’ll surely knock something loose in your movement. There’s a reason why G-shocks are used in warfare with our troops. They work.
The 5610 has been updated as of July 2021, it has an led backlight, date that can be set like the rest of the world, ie day, then month and the time can be seen in the top right whilst countdown timer or stopwatch is on the go. Graphics are similar, too, with different languages available for days of the week; they cost approx. $120.
Where did you get it at that price? I've been looking for one and have only seen in Japan market websites for over $150 - $180 + shipping. Practically double the price of the old one.
When it comes to G-Shock I only really ever wanted one design, and that's the DW5600 or its 'evolution', the only G-Shock I have, the GX-56BB. Perhaps I should get a DW5600 one of these days.
I want to see every G-shock has at least with three of these things: Multi-band 6 receptor, Bluetooth, and Solar power!! It’d make g-shock all that much perfect!!
Who the hell keeps a watch in his glove box in case someone forgot to bring a watch :D Dude WTF You dont need to find an excuse to have them, just enjoy em guilt free
It's an addiction with these watches. I was looking at the GWM-5610, but didn't think I liked the look of the red trim ring. So I bought a G-5600E a few weeks ago which is solar but without a color trim ring. Has one of the cleanest looks of the 5600 series. Then I bought the GWM-5610 for a co-worker who was retiring and I liked how it looked. It looked much better in person. So I just bought the GW-M5610R-1JF which is the same but has an orange ring and an orange tint to the display. Now I'm thinking I want a GW-M5610BB-1JF as a "dress watch". I may just get rid of all my other watches and just use G shock 5600 series. To me they are comfortable to wear, tough, easy to read and low maintenance. If only Casio wouldn't go overboard with the lettering and labels so much.
I just received the GW-M5610R-1JF (Orange) a few days ago. The orange tint on the display is not that dark as it looks in some pictures on the internet. Some pictures make it look like it is a dark orange. It is not. It is not much darker than the Compared to the standard (grey?) screen, it is just as easy to see in all light conditions. Didn't like the band or the orange "Protection" and "G-Shock" logo on the case. The band and case is actually the standard flat black but sprayed with a coating to make it look semi-gloss. The coating makes it feel a little slick. I picked up a new bezel and case cover from Ebay from the GW-M5610-1BJF which is the negative display model which has grey rather than white case lettering and it makes the watch look much better and cleaner I think. Also, the orange model looks a little cleaner than the red model IMO, because, although it has the same lettering/labeling on the watch face, all the lettering is one color (white). No blue or yellow. Only negative is because the orange is a Japan market model I believe, you can't find it for as cheap as the red one.
I'm 52 now and have been collecting G-Shock since 1988. Had box full of them big n small...before sold/trade most of the bigger ones. Now only 3 that are not the squares. The rest 15 are squares. 1 DW5600..few DW5500s(fat squares), GG5600s, DW-D5600s, G5600e's, GWMs and GLXs...never sells/trades your square. 🤣🤣
Even at $40 I still take my watch off when doing hard labor like working on cars, heavy lifting or moving, using corrosive chemicals, etc. Easy enough to check the time later by pulling it out of a pocket where it's nice and protected. That way when you hit the town you're not bummed about that nasty scratch across the crystal and/or case.
@@thematt5325 Never mind. Yes, it´s dependable :) I was still asleep and tought i read dependent :) Not about these, but recently bought a square. The "King". The GX 56 is indeed a great watch. what if you would for example not use the solar for 6 months? It remains in the drawer. Or is the battery almost like endless? the solar powered system.
Every G-Shock choice is personal. For me, the G5600E-1 has all the functionality I want, and nothing I don't. It has the solar charging, but NOT atomic syncing. I find G-shocks are very accurate (within 3-4 seconds/month) and simple to occasionally reset, making atomic syncing unnecessary for me. (I could probably skip solar-charging, too, but if I live long enough, it will become cost-effective. Plus, I will not compromise water-resistance by opening the back). Thanks for the video!
This is a first G shock makes me feel wanted to get one, 1/ back to original square shape design makes the looks less flashy, 2/ solar power, 3/ accuracy quartz movement. 4/ easy to read.
Hi I hope your well.. I need your advice in interested in the 5610 with solar and multiband I have the black one from amazon at a very good price...exactly like yours... Are the orange ones and the blue ones worth more money as the prices are much higher..... I am into casio after buying a few pro trek watches
I bought a DW-5600E a few weeks ago and love it. Loved the DW so much, I purchased a GW-M5610 for the added features, solor, etc...but I'm surprised to find that I'm considering sending the GW-M5610 back! I'm pretty bummed about it. My main issue is the fit. I'm not able to wear for prolonged periods, because It's a bit too tight on the notch that I feel it should fit me at and too loose at the next size/notch up. By "too loose," i mean it moves around a lot...Did anyone else have this issue? Will it break in/ conform over time? For around $100 I don't want to buy a watch adapter and switch over to a nato etc...
I just strangely noticed that the clasp side of the rubbery resin bands on the cheap gshocks have holes i them. You wouldn't need them on that side. Why have holes because i know the bands tear. Weird...
How long does the battery last? The only time I take off my Timex Expedition is to change the worn out band. I have not ever replaced the battery and it has lasted many years of abuse.
Is in your watch lcd contrast is worse looking straight on dial? In my dw5600 contrast is best in small angel when I am looking from the bottom, and from left. Sorry for my English, I do my best...
radio towers in Japan, China, United States, United Kingdom, Germany. For countries where you dont get the signal you can connect via bluetooth to a smart phone and it will get the update from there.
Great collection And usefull review, i saw many of your casio review, could you help me to explain how to set up time without messing up the world time function?i just bought gwm5610 used no manual just the watch, tried to set up time but every time i change the time setting all the utc setting is mess up,where or on which position (time zone)should i change the timw setting?and one more thing tried to manually sync the rc but its alwqys failed,i live in indiana,do you think its our of range of the atomic tower?so sorry for this long question.thanks alot
I don't understand either. It isn't like it's a special film or anything. It doesn't take any extra effort other than rotating the film 90° on the display. It's the same module, the same display, the same polarizing film. It's honestly that simple. There should be zero difference in the price of the watches, as long as everything else is identical and the only difference is the regular or negative display.
Hi sir I have questions ! I bought 3 watches GW9400 , G9300 , GX56BB so my question few weeks ago I noticed that 9400 running fast with one second. And others slow back with one second every four days , can you tell me pls what’s the problem ? And can be fix because I still have my warranty I can send them back I’m sorry I’m very disappointed because they are my first watch’s
I just really do not like negative displays i have the gshock ga110gb and as soon as night fall comes i cant see shit and the led light is next to useless
You should get yourself a screwback 5000/5600. I have a DW-5000SL which I bought 6 years ago for cheap and it has been on my wrist most of the time. It's been actually difficult to find a screwback G's for cheap nowadays even in used condition. I'd also recommend you a GW-5000-1JF for the ultimate square G's experience.
The screw back is a waste of money. I have seen cheap 15 dollar screwback watches at Walmart that are larger, heavier, durable. Ghocks are expensive because of the name and more with solar and atomic time.... but to triple the price because of a screwback is ridiculous. The non screwback version can be had for less than a third of the price. Just bought one for under 80 bucks.
@@RandomRobReviews Hi Watch Bob, Hope you are well... I enjoyed your Casio video. But I have a little favor to ask. I am looking for a watch with no luck finding one that I want. but I hope you can help me. I would like to buy a watch that will have the following things: - Solar charging - Digital display (with time and date displayed on it, preferably DD/MM) - Mineral Display or higher (no acrylic) - Non Negative Display. - And it should not break the bank. the cheaper the better. Not to sound picky, but I can find some watches that have these characteristics, but at the price I am finding them I would rather buy a smart watch rather than a simple digital display watch, I simply cannot find the motivation to spend so much on a watch. that only tells time and date when I could spend a little more and have a samart one.... anyway... I got to find a watch I like but unfortunately I think the glass is acrylic. Casio W-S210H-1AVEG and casio STL S100H-1A and casio W-S200H-1BVEF I believe these all have acrylic displays, I could not find any reliable consistent information about them. (do not get fooled about these picks, I still would love a round or rectangular display. or a metal face/strap. I am not picky about that. anyway. if you have some advice or you know what watch I can search for that has these characteristics. I would appreciate it
10:00 Exactly. I originally intend to use my steel watch for just about everything, but a lot of activities is just bound to mess up that bracelet. I already have a f91-w in green, but I wan't something more substantial so I'm getting the 5610 :) (*Just did)
do you think a woman would appreciate receiving a GWM5610 as a gift... thinking about replacing the bezel and strap with rose gold... opinions would be appreciated! Thanks

5:50 @ they don’t get the atomic signal from satellites, they get them from 6 antennas around the world.
Totally agree the multiband, solar square is the perfect watch.
Could not agree with you more. If I could only have/own one watch it would be a G-Shock with Atomic and Solar.
I much prefer the octagonal G-Shock models over the circular ones. They just look more techy and macho.

please make a tutorial on how to make a DST and ALM , SNZ and SIG even the tone display.. i want to have all that icon in the display.. pls help
Is it easy to look under sunlight? Display seems not really good.. I mean for the gw b5600 model
Can you provide the “watchuseek” link to the Casio G-Shock squares EXPLAINED article?
I have 2 DW5600s one DW5600e in positive display at Target and a DW5600HR in Negative display I got a Macy’s for $105
I just strangely noticed that the clasp side of the rubbery resin bands on the cheap gshocks have holes i them. You wouldn't need them on that side. Why have holes because i know the bands tear. Weird...
Can you not move the watches so much? I can't read what's on the displays.
How long does the battery last? The only time I take off my Timex Expedition is to change the worn out band. I have not ever replaced the battery and it has lasted many years of abuse.
g shocks are great. what do called that digital measure you measuring watch with ?
Digital caliper.
Is in your watch lcd contrast is worse looking straight on dial? In my dw5600 contrast is best in small angel when I am looking from the bottom, and from left. Sorry for my English, I do my best...
Hello, Great video thanks. Can you put the Combi bracelet on the Negative display (black/red) watch? Thanks!
How does the Atomic feature work? I mean does it work in all the countries or certain countries? how would I know?
radio towers in Japan, China, United States, United Kingdom, Germany. For countries where you dont get the signal you can connect via bluetooth to a smart phone and it will get the update from there.
I need to get me a solar one at some point. great for backups in my deployment bag too
Yankee Rider I've had my solar G-Shock Riseman for almost 10 years now and still have not had to chang the battery.
Lot of fun discovering these old vids when researching watches. 5000 too expensive...LMAO
Where did you buy the robot stand? I want one!!!
Casio needs to make a Gw-b5600 with a positive display (besides gold)- seems like there are too many negative display models
Love that combination bracelet. Hadn't seen that before.👍
Does the dw5600 and the gwm5600 wears in the same hole? I mean do you put them in the same hole when you put in on your wrist?
Great collection And usefull review, i saw many of your casio review, could you help me to explain how to set up time without messing up the world time function?i just bought gwm5610 used no manual just the watch, tried to set up time but every time i change the time setting all the utc setting is mess up,where or on which position (time zone)should i change the timw setting?and one more thing tried to manually sync the rc but its alwqys failed,i live in indiana,do you think its our of range of the atomic tower?so sorry for this long question.thanks alot
I wonder if there's a solar with negative display? Thank you Rob for the video. 👍
Any idea about DW-5600HR-1c looks like? couldn't get it online to view the model... T.T
Great watches and a great review. MultiBand6 is radio masts, not satellites though ;)
Love the negative display😍
I wish the negative display version was priced the same as the regular 5610. I don't understand why negative display is so much more $
I don't understand either.
They look cool, sort of, but harder to see the display, I can’t see the point.
Gw9400 Is a multiband 6 you need to adjust the time right
Is there any way to make it shows date in normal way DD/MM?
I'm between the 5600e1 with solar....and then 5610 with atomic....difference is about 25 bucks .....
I just really do not like negative displays i have the gshock ga110gb and as soon as night fall comes i cant see shit and the led light is next to useless
You helped me avoid wasting money. Ordering gw 5060 1 right
Hi, rob. Can i modify 5600 series with combi bracelet ? i was planning to get 5610 and modify the band with combi bracelet
I would say check out the GX56! There’s a reason they call it the “King”!
No thx i prefer gwm 5610
I like the GX56 but don't care for the negative display
Have you tested the GW-M5610BB-1ER? Big difference between this and the 5610 - 1er?
Where the hell did you get that figure?
You should get yourself a screwback 5000/5600. I have a DW-5000SL which I bought 6 years ago for cheap and it has been on my wrist most of the time. It's been actually difficult to find a screwback G's for cheap nowadays even in used condition. I'd also recommend you a GW-5000-1JF for the ultimate square G's experience.
I stocked up on squares. New vid soon.
I would like to buy a watch that will have the following things:
- Solar charging
- Digital display (with time and date displayed on it, preferably DD/MM)
- Mineral Display or higher (no acrylic)
- Non Negative Display.

Search around at Casio protrek
hey I think you got the description wrong on the one with the combi bracelet. Not sure.
how much is the rescue orange 5610 worth?someone a idea?thnx in advance.
hello, good video, what is the model of the minute 4:11 ?
I do not like the red one but I would not say it is useless, when you look for your watch in your bag it is easy to find.
Whats the smallest rectangle g-shock height??? For small wrist
I don't like how the tough solar 5610’s are smaller than the standard 5600’s. The standard battery variety G shocks are small enough.
10:00 Exactly. I originally intend to use my steel watch for just about everything, but a lot of activities is just bound to mess up that bracelet. I already have a f91-w in green, but I wan't something more substantial so I'm getting the 5610 :) (*Just did)
Nice. You must review GW-B5600HR-1DR, tough solar with negative display.
Are these too large for someone with a 6 3/4 wrist size?
No
" I think I might start collecting them ... "
Lol ... You are already . !
I'm in for one with the combi bracelet negative display. Perfect for rough activities and traveling.
What model was the other G Shock you pulled onto the screen at 4:10?
do you think a woman would appreciate receiving a GWM5610 as a gift... thinking about replacing the bezel and strap with rose gold... opinions would be appreciated! Thanks
Nope !
Unless you love your couch, that “rose gold” strap better have a diamond attached to it !
@@unclebob4964 2 years too late and completely wrong anyway dude
Isn’t a woman born that will look at a diamond and tell you “ you’re late “………not 2 years….2 months…..or 2 seconds, DUDE…..!!
( unless, of course, you’re going to cover up the tattoo she just got at the corn festival )
Australia isn't covered by the multi-band tech, unfortunately, so the atomic watches are pointless. I've just ordered the g5600 for that reason.
Did not know that. I suspect more and more the gps and Bluetooth will be the norm.
Same here mate. Was gonna get one with the multi band tech. But went with the gw5600. 😊
Same here mate. Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!
Negative display is a little more difficult to read but i really like it.
Link to that watchuseek thread would be nice
where to buy a red-black strap?
is the solar and 5 alarms worth the extra price? been looking at dw5600e vs the g5600e.
I like your lttle gshock man with the watch head.
