- I'm not sure how many times folks ask me, "why are you trolling a jointed DepthRaider vs. a straight model?" Or many times I get asked, "why do you pick a baby DepthRaider over the full sized 8" model?" These are great questions and that is exactly why I have created this vlog video! To answer these very important questions on an arguably very important topic!
In this vlog I go into great detail on the attributes, tactics and tackle setups that I recommend for the following lures:
Jointed DepthRaider 8"
Straight Model DepthRaider 8"
Baby DepthRaider (Straight) 6"
Jointed and Straight Model ShallowRaiders 7"
Baby ShallowRaider 5"
So enter my classroom, get your notebooks out and gear-up for Musky Mastery Academy, because class is in session!

Wow, what a fantastic video to watch on a cold winter day. I am looking forward to this upcoming season and working on my crank bait game. Thank you for sharing all this knowledge, Chas!
Hey thank you so much!!! I really appreciate the kind words! More vlogs to come during season 4!
This is like an Honors course in Crankbait presentation. Stay focused, Take notes and use the rewind button often.
Wow! Ron thanks for this amazing comment!! I’m beyond pumped that you are enjoying the vlogs! More to come dude
Again great video! Lots of these tips will help create some confidence for the next confidence crank!
Great video, thanks! I'm a big crankbait fan from walleye and bass fishing making the jump into muskies, and this was super helpful.
Thank you so much for the kind words Dean! Yes, I absolutely love crankbaits as well! I'd take them any day over soft plastics etc. They are just so versatile! More vlogs to come! Thanks!
Unbelievably wonderful run through of information. This should be a part of a Musky Mastery Educational Series. Keep the musky secrets coming. I can't wait for the Blade Episode and the Top water episode. School is in session
Great vlog as always.
Thank you so much 😊
Great information there Chas. My go to trolling bait for tough conditions is a sucker pattern baby DR. It has got my PB of 50 inches and a number of other nice Muskies on my system. Awesome baits. Thanks for all the great info. Time for ice fishing.
Thanks SO much dude! And congrats on the pb 50... that is a giant!
Love your videos, keep them coming!
Dude, a great complement to your videos! I have thoroughly enjoyed this season in the classroom. Keep up the good work!
Chas, several people have asked me, when is season 4 officially premiering? January 1st 2021?
Mike thanks man - great question!!! Yes, season 4 of Musky Mastery will begin on Friday, January 1st! With hundreds of actual segments filmed this season... we have a lot of editing to do! :)
IMO the Baby straight DR accurately mimicks the "hooked perch", especially when pumped, which is a universal trigger.
Chas, as always...Great vlog. The more I listen, the more it all starts to come full circle. Thanks, Dude! A couple of questions.... Does the lure action in a Fig. 8 ever dictate what lure you will throw? In your different scenarios you mention lead tape..When will it be more effective to use weighted leaders? Thanks. As always....YOU ROCK!
Thanks! from Iced over Idaho"
🤟
Thanks DUDE!
Great videos. very informative. I started musky fishing last year. I have a question. I was using a jointed depth raider trolling. I was having issues with it rolling on top? I was using 50lb braid. Trolling at around 4mph. Any info would be appreciated thank you.
Before trolling, take a super long cast with the DR and crank as hard as you can. Watch for which way the crankbait runs. Left or right. Yours is likely just out of tune. Use an adjustable wrench and bend the line tie in the direction of error. This will need to be done multiple times until you have it “tuned.” Ask more questions any time!
@@MuskyMastery Thank you for the fast response. I will work on getting it tuned better. I did try to get it adjusted right. I thought the 50lb line maybe an issue? Do you recommend a split ring on the front?
