    What we know so far:
Grandpa is some sort of unkillable ancient creature that was aquired from a family in "the south". It possibly has magical, or demonic origins. It is able to read thoughts to some degree, and those thoughts, along with what it eats (don't feed it meat), sees (mirrors), and basically any stimulus it receives, affect how it grows/what it grows into. At some point in the past, this basement was a lab where they would let individual growths of grandpa grow and develop for a certain amount of time before destroying it. Whatever small bits remained would always grow back into a new lifeform. The mirrors, as well as the procedures around interacting with it (keep non-work related conversation to a minimum), are a way to keep it from getting too much exposure to anything but itself. If it changes based on stimulus, turning its world into just it is a way to keep it from changing, or slow the change. Not sure what the seal is though. or if its still around (it not being around may be how William died).
I hope they finish this. The narrative is really interesting, and theres practically nothing about it online right now. The premise has real SCP vibes. If the tone of the game weren't so grim, I'd think there was a possibility that, influenced only by the little girl, grandpa stays docile and nice, and turns into a sort of idealized version of her grandpa. I wonder if the previous "use" of grandpa was to "bring back the dead", and what the ultimate goal of the study is. I'm also curious to see if they broach how the girl ended up in this house, and why this crazy, dangerous thing was being studied in a (seemingly) residential house, and why the parents never bothered to go downstairs and see the slime mold demon living in the basement.

I'm pretty sure the "family" you mention from "the south" is from the Steppes, the Steppes is mentioned quite a lot. Whether they mean the Eurasian Steppes or not, I'm not sure, but there's a lot of similar folklore about things like this creature from the Eurasian Steppe nomads.

Parents don't go down because they're always fighting.
Adrianne's family inherits the house since her mother is the daughter of Dr Hart, the same Hart the creature becomes. The creature's real name is Whiskers, and yeah, it may be a demon of some sorts and it remembers some parts of it's previous life until the moment the contract is completed.
This leads into what I find interesting about Whiskers. the 'doppelganger' develops some sort of semi-sentience, refering to Whiskers as it's primal side. Even if Whiskers mimics human emotion and mannerisms, I'd like to think that copied entity takes full control after you give it blood and complete the contract, who then does your wish, it leaves without harming anyone, _It doesn't kill or replace Adrianne's parents mind you, only changes them to stop fighting and to dote on her more._

@@dontlookspins I was moreso comparing it to a visual novel in relative time of sitting and reading dialogue vs playing the game. And that is unfair to say it is a _thousand_ times more interesting than a visual novel. There are some pretty interesting ones out there. Maybe... Lol. Either way I disagree. I didn't find this very interesting. It loses steam after awhile. Because it has soooo much damn reading and nonsense. Not to mention it is a little too slow paced for how much downtime it does have.
Ah and the point about saying this has "far more interactivity" I could dispute that as well. There are some good vn's with quite a bit of interesting gameplay and activity on the player's part. A couple good examples are the Phenix Wright and Danganronpa series.
Oh and on top of everything I was pointing out it isn't a great game for a let's play formula. At least not the traditional style the grumps usually have. There is only one person with dialogue so they cannot go back and forth with characters and it is a very slow paced game so I could see Arin especially getting hit with ADHD bouts. Hahah.
You are coming at me and defending it like I said it is a game people shouldn't play alone in their house.

  • @thatsprettylane
    @thatsprettylane 2 роки тому +7

An explanation based on my understanding of the game so far. Whiskers is the thing with the bristles from the beginning. It is to Grandpa what milk is to butter, in the sense that it could become many different things depending on how you handle it. This is the desirous yield. Whiskers will yield whatever the handler desires, meaning whatever you want it to become, it will become, but only based on your conceptions and knowledge of the thing you want it to become.
(It’s important to note that unlike the Researchers, who were working with small samples of Whiskers, Adrienne is working with the entire subject.)
This is where the mirrors come in. It’s to remove variables. If Whiskers can only see itself, it can only BE itself, and it can be studied further.
The shell is basically the scaffolding for whatever Whiskers turns into. In the case of Grandpa, it is a human shaped doll. If the doll stops suiting it’s needs, Whiskers will find a new shell to move to. I understand this to mean that if we convinced Grandpa that he was more like a shoe, than a humanoid, he would seek out a shoe-shaped shell to grow around/into.
And I think the food thing is just more of how your idea of it shapes Whiskers. If you feed it plant based food, it knows it is supposed to eat plant based food and will grow accordingly. This is why feeding it meat is dangerous; it will seek out more meat.
    Yes, it’s basically the Thing.
And this isn’t all being conveyed by a child to a therapist. The POV changes.

I remember watching gabriel knights and dan was talking about what he got suzy for her birthday, it was this really creepy voodoo shrunken head and suzy was like "omg thank you so much" and arin was like "thank you...dan...for putting this in my house😒"
in my head this game is Arin getting back at Dan for it by grossing him out and scaring him lmao, that's why arin is so excited

Here's my attempt to decode what's going on for y'all. The "anthropoidic vacuum" is a removal of all stimuli about or resembling humans. In this state of vacuum, Whiskers is not permitted to see, hear, or otherwise sense any human or manmade object. That's what all the mirrors are for. It's to absolutely ensure that the creature can sense nothing but its own current appearance, and thus has nothing to mimic. This is a containment measure, because if it's allowed to see anything when it's advanced enough it'll be able to pass as human and attack people. The implications of the acquisition letter are that this bizarre creature was viewed as a demon by north-central Asians and Russian steppe folk.

Not gonna lie, I didn't know you guys played this game til recently. I know thumbnails and titles are made with the intent of following the algorithm on UA-cam, but I never can tell what videos are what anymore. Kinda miss the days when things are able to be consistent. Again, I know it's not your fault that UA-cam wants to have content this way, but it makes things confusing and missable in the long term.

I think the writing in this game is very clever? I mean, the wording makes enough sense as to get the gist of it but is also vague, complicated and confusing enough as to force you to re-read and re-think the implications of what is being said. It also really sells the feeling that you're reading something highly technical and not just made up nonsense

Still not sure her grandpa will actually emerge out of that shell. From the former experiment being named "Whiskers", it sounds like that and "Grandpa" are just the names that were given to the monstrosity. And it will grow into whatever it sees fit (through what it learns neurally).
It's however implied that Adrienne is giving the Thing all that neural intent to indeed become "Grandpa" (and might soon feed it so-called forbidden animal flesh).
If we don't see the next instalment tomorrow or soon because they truly stopped playing, I do hope they keep their savegame around and soldier through it as part of this year's Ghoul Grumps. Super super intrigued, but as usual for me with horror games, I sadly wouldn't go through this by myself.

I had that cabbage patch doll that ate stuff. It had a backpack attached to its back where the things it ate were deposited so you could take them and feed the doll again. It wasn’t just fingers that got stuck, but hair as well. If a girl had long hair and enough got stuck in the mouth the doll would just continuously keep eating it. I was thankfully able to pull my hair out without damage.

If anybody is curious, the Hydra they are talking about in the game is a relative of jellyfish. They are typically very tiny, I think somewhere around plankton size, and are effectively immortal as they do not age and can regenerate like a starfish.
