You were totally right! We just finally started using this fryer that we got in 2017. We have used it less than a year and tonight it caught fire!!! We clean this thing all the time because we also noticed the leaking grease. I'm so glad we were in the kitchen, could have burned our house down.
I have the Power XL 3.5 quart. I just viewed your video and checked out my machine as you demonstrated. NO PROBLEMS. NO RESIDUE OIL ANYWHERE. I've had my machine 8 months. If I use oil, I use only a light spray.
Mine does the same thing. The oil is going in the bottom of the mechine where you can't clean. We only cook stakes in the one we have and the grease that comes out of the stake alot is getting in the bottom and comes out all over the counter
Bazahaza yes, because some people think they are better than others. 🤦♀️ yes, he had a mistake, yet, it was very clear what the person was trying to write.
You got a faulty machine. I’ve used oil in mine and I haven’t seen any oil inside my machine. They manufacture these things so quickly that a bad one could get passed by and into a consumer’s hands. It’s such an excellent machine and I’m so sorry you had to be the one to get it.
Well your concerns have been addressed, they include a notice about a fire hazard, and some legal jargon that implies the simple act of owning the device makes you at fault and unable to class action against them for fire damage etc. In case anyone is curious, that is not a legally binding contract because you did not sign your name to crap. If this does catch fire, sue!
I was cooking some turkey chops as I have done many times and when I opened the fryer to check on the chops there was a flame on the coils. No oil involved. The coil was definitely compromised!
Might want to contact the company and have them replace it. It would be cheaper for them to replace yours than to do a recall. Then you can know if it is a design flaw or just one defective machine.
I’ve been using mine now for a year and never had an issue but I fillled the basket with water to see if it would leak and it did! I tightened the screws as best I could and now it’s much bettter with a slight trickle out of one screw hole. There’s never any liquid that goes past those first set of holes, so I’m not really worried too much, plus I don’t really use much oil to begin with. I’ve cooked a whole chicken in there two times, and never had a problem with smoking, even with all the fat that drips below.
I be bought one and washed it out thorough not used it after watching this I'm going to give it way for free it's the small one .Mr you gotta take it back to the seller it's faulty thank you for the demo :I bought the Tefal 2in -1 perfect
I have the Power airfryer XL and only have that issue when I cook chicken or steaks the oil from the meat gets all over inside there. It happens when I do brots to. I think it is just the higher fan speed in the bigger unit that blows it everywhere.
The manufacturer warns of smoking and fire hazard if any oil, other than pure olive oil, is used. It also warns against putting any oil in the basket. You may spray the food with oil or brush/rub on a very tiny amount of olive oil, but you don't use oil at all for many foods. I have the large unit he is talking about and have never had any issues when following the included use and cooking guide which specifies the cooking temp to be used with each type of food, and it isn't always 400. The whole point of an air fryer is to fry without oil for most recipes but get results similar to frying with oil.
I put a 1/4 cup of water in the black pan when cooking greasy food in my air fryer. Never had a leaking issue. I also make a habit of wiping the unit inside with a damp rag after cooking
The first time I used my Power Air Fryer XL I used chicken, didn't add any oil, my house was completely filled with smoke in a few minuets, and there is oil leaking from the bottom of the unit, I took it apart and the inside of the walls of the case was soaked with oil. I cleaned it out and reassembled it again, but I will never fry chicken in there again. I regularly wipe the bottom off because of oil dripping out. I wish I had never bought it. About all I use it for now is french fries. I really can't imagine that much water leaking around those screws, it's more like you may have a hairline crack in the pan somewhere.
Have you ever cooked a chicken in a rotisserie? What a mess of oil all over the inside of the rotisserie. All I am saying is that I put chicken with skin in my fryer xl, no oil added just salt and seasonings. It smoked like crazy and I am still wiping oil off the bottom of the unit. I'll never cook chicken with skin in it again. Even when I cook in on my NuWave cooker, I have to clean the cover of all the spattered oil off it, but at least it didn't fill the house with smoke.
@@allisonkang3249 YES!!! 100% You do NOT Put oil on your food in the air fryer! No need for it. It is an "Air" fryer. If you put oil in the other fryer, its not a true air fryer. It specifically tells you in the manual do Not use oil or butter and do Not overfill or machine may smoke. Follow directions and maybe try use the settings you're supposed to. That is why the machine has those preset buttons. Each button is set to the time and temperature that coincides with each type of food. I've had my Power Air Fryer XL for 2 years now and I cook almost everything in it. Everything comes out Amazing! Never add any oils or fats at all. I make chicken, hamburgers, steak, pork chops, roast, fish, vegetables, potatoes, pizza, garlic bread, fried ravioli, anything frozen premade like pizza rolls, egg rolls, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, fries, tater tots, fish sticks, pot pies, pepper poppers, ect. I use my air fryer every day! In place of the oven & microwave.
My Power Air Fryer XL caught fire a couple of years ago. I replaced it with an inexpensive Insignia which has a basket made more along the lines of your farberware, although it's just a smidge bigger. I'm just glad I had walked back into the kitchen when I did or the place would have burned down.
I always wipe mine at the bottom. But had no idea it leaked. I did try olive oil one time and it smoked. I usually use spray in the fryer. When you fry chicken/hamburgers / meats.because it makes its own grease don't use anything. You have definitely saved some homes. God bless

Diane K.S. The glass on my Power XL Air Fryer shattered all over my food while removing nuggets from it. The mesh tray touched the glass and bam glass every where.
I am so glad that you brought that to my attention. I am about to go into the kitchen and catch my Power XL Air Fryer. Will get back with you on my findings.
looking to buy one. thanks for the tip cause all the grease is why i wanted an air fryer. would not be happy with smoke and still to have a grease issue. Plus i will look at my big godaddy fryer, which i do love very much (just wanna use less oil) and make sure all the screws are still tight too just for safety. We never think about things like this, but is good to check every year really if used all the time ...
If you’re frying, even air frying fatty foods guess what the residual effect is? Oil. We have the same unit(2-3yrs), and have never had any problems, because it’s “cleaned” after every use. Also we Never leave the unit unattended while cooking. When we use any oils to help crisp foods we “spray mist” oil, never pour it over.
The Power Air Fryer , is NOT a potential hazard. Your just likely using too much oil. Also your not supposed to soak the bottom part like that. Mine's is a fabulous machine

You may "potentially" have a "defective" Air Fryer. Return the product to the store of purchase and also notify the manufacturer -- esp where the is a fire hazard. (Note: The product may have been improperly assembled -- just like any other product.)
Phillips Also says do not use a non scratch pad. Did u guys read the instructions???? Also, only oil on the food, Preferably the cooking spray kind and u dont need Much! Sounds like a user error. No oil ever collects in the back of my machine either. Maybe u just got a bad one.
Is that power air fryer XL by Tristar? I just bought a couple from Target that go by that name and you have to research a little to find out it's by Tristar. I'm going to do a water test when I get it. I also ordered the Farberware of the same size and it was $10 less at $39 from Walmart.
I have had no problem with my Power Air Fryer, because after each use I wash everything and I wipe out the inside with hot towel to get any grease that may have gotten on the inside wall. Just clean after each use.
Your not supposed to use more then a very small amount of oil if any nothing to go up to those screws. It's a air frier. If you want it deep fried use a deep frier.
This machine is not suppose be use for boiling or deep frying so one should not fill it up with any liquid as shown on the video. It's is use as an air fryer. I have been using this machine daily for 2 years now with out any problem.
You shouldn't be soaking that, because it will eventually begin to rust! All you need to do is wipe it down with a soft "NON-ABRASIVE" cloth. I cook a lot more grease yielding food in mine. I NEVER soak it in water, but I do use a degreaser spray (very little), with a soft cloth. Before putting it away I will use a disinfectant spray, and lastly I will take a spray bottle of hot water and spray it down to remove all chemicals. NEVER EVER SOAK IT! It's also important to completely dry it.
Dude, that’s why the instructions tell you to wipe it out after each use! Plus you should NEVER use abrasives to clean the inside of the Power AirFryer XL. The XL should NEVER have liquids placed in it! A really bad demo brother! btw... How many different ways can you cook asparagus?
I don't think its the screws. You're not supposed to put a lot of oil in there anyway. But oil POPS when its really hot, like how it pops out of a hot pan. That's probably what's going on. Its popping out. You're only supposed to use very little oil in air fryers. That's the whole point. Its an AIR frying, not a OIL fryer. it's meant to be an alternative for people who do NOT want to have deep fried food. They want it AIR "fried" instead. Some people use a little of that non stick spray. Put your olive oil in a plastic bottle and spray it on the food once or twice. Again, very little oil. Look at some other UA-cam videos of air fryers. See how other people use them. No one uses grease. It's NOT a deep fryer. its an AIR fryer. Look at a few other UA-cam videos. I think you are using it wrong, especially if you are talking about filling it up like that. It shouldn't be filled up at all. In fact, not even 2% of that should be in the bucket. Like 1 tablespoon max (coated over your food). Maybe not even that much.
+MessengerOfTruth it occurs to me that you didn't watch the video. I coat my veggies and fish with olive oil, not grease, prior to putting them in the air fryer. I had zero issues with my Farberware air fryer except the basket was too small, the power air fryer is just a bad product.
I think you've shown where the problem at 1:40, especially if you "Throw it in" (assuming with cup of oil). I know your smaller frier does not smoke - you've just been lucky. Why is it leaking? Its the accumulated oil from the persistent abuse.
You're an idiot. The other fryer has no issues. You're just trying to convince yourself that you didn't purchase a piece of shit when you really did. You should be thanking this guy. Wake the hell up!
Not gonna call your names like other people, but try using it without oil. like when I make air fried chicken I season and lightly coat with pancake mix only.
My in laws just lost there house over this product was unplugged sittin wit no power after being used we sat in living room look out whole kitchen up in flames do not buy this at all please do not save your house
I purchased one of these back in 2017 when they first came out The smoking is no joke Just using the cookbook recipe for fried chicken Within 5 minutes I just happen to look towards the kitchen and the Airfryer was smoking like crazy The company that made these should have revealed that natural juices from meat, seafood etc when it drips the bottom part of the fryer is so hot all you get is smoke Had mine a month and sent it back Never heard from them It's 2020 and my sister just purchased one for me for Christmas Maybe they've improved on it since then but I'm cautious about using it Anyone have the latest version
I burnt mine up last night scared me to death I was literally 2 secs from calling fire debt and losing my house!!! But omg I fought it coughing black smoke ended up throwing it out the back door on fire and putting stove out by the kitchen sink hose!! Ha!
@@yukonstriker1703 it wasnt the air fryer I messed up and turned on the wrong stove eye stupidly had it sitting on the stove bc well lack of space. Went to start some green beans on the back stove eye had it sitting on the front and turned the front on and went to pee...smoke alarms started going off and am lucky I still have a house. #Dumbluck
@@yukonstriker1703 I left that reply like right after before I realized what I had done so was all amped up thinking it was the fryer but turns out after I thought about it it was all my fault lol. Opps. Thank the lord for some detectors and quick reflexes baby
I had to stop at about 2 minutes simply because it went from being a public warning video, to a dude acting like a salesman doing a comparison! Figure out what you are doing, bro.
OMG, you would think that the thing would be sealed up and wouldn't leak anything, wouldn't you??? It shouldn't be doing that... seriously... I'm with him, that drawer doesn't want to go back in there very easily either... it drives me crazy... it takes me multiple attempts to get it in there, and it isn't like I can't aim either.... this was a $100 waste of money.... trust me....
Just some random tip: Different cooking oils have different "Smoke Points" or the temperatures that they will catch smoke! As such, cold-pressed oils and unrefined oils (very low smoke points), such as cold-pressed coconut oil and unrefined rapeseed oil etc., should never be used to brush or spray onto meats that are going to be cooked in an air fryer (the same goes for convention oven). Doing this will result in the oils turning into smoke and if temperature is high enough will catch fire! A list of "Smoke Points" of some cooking oils is here: shorturl.at/ayMY7
This is true but you just can't expect everyone to know this. What people should know is never walk away from any appliance that is cooking food without turning it off first and keep a kiddie fire extinguisher and smoke alarm in your kitchen for all types of kitchen fires.
I'm glad I came across this. My machine is months old. I do wipe out the interior after every use. It's just my nervous way around electricity. Even a threat of fire terrifies me ...I just know I could not get out or save my fur babies. I'll be checking my fryer tomorrow best I can. Thank you !
Biggs Vibes calm down why so mean it does say you can add oil but like put maybe fresh french fries in a bowl add a little oil and mix it around you can spritz food in the fryer like wings and other chicken parts and other food but never put oil in the basket that’s asking for a fire to start people should read directions a couple of times if they don’t understand or ask someone
From this review I have to let you know one critical part you mentioned. You said you put "olive oil on your asparagus", that is the problem. This is an "air fryer" meaning you don't need any oils the cook your food with, it uses super heated "air".
I just got one of these as a Christmas gift, and right on the top of the package was a big letter about arbitration, which was a huge red flag for me. People have also said the bottom of the fryer gets so hot that it's been known to crack counter tops because of the heat. I'm so scared of using this product, I'm just thinking of asking my relative for the receipt and just get a grill or something.
You said that there was about 1/8" layer of oil in the bottom? Don't you wipe it out after every use? Also I would love to know how much olive oil you are using to coat your vegetables with. Should only be 1/2 to 1 tbsp at the most.
Ugh! I’ll say it once again. My Farberware keeps the oil IN the pan NOT the bottom of the cooker. I cook the same way, pour oil on veggies in separate container, shake, drain excess oil, cook.
Mine does the same thing. The oil is going in the bottom of the mechine where you can't clean. We only cook stakes in the one we have and the grease that comes out of the stake alot is getting in the bottom and comes out all over the counter
I'm glad you bought this up because the other day mine was smoking too really really bad. I had to take the food out drain the oil from the bottom basket and wash it and start all over again
I have a new Power XL 5.5 qt Air Fryer. I have cooked cubed steak, pork chops, chicken, salmon, hot wings, personal pizza and fries. Clean up is amazing and I don't have any of the oil leakage problems you have.
I have the Power XL 5.5 qt. also. The inside of mine is like new. I don't add oils. If I need a little EVOO I spritz it on the food before putting it in but that is very seldom. Never had leaks but thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will keep a watch out if I start finding anything in the bottom of it.
I don't wish to be a killjoy but I'm pretty sure that every air fryer on the market tells you to clean it after use. The other side of the argument - how the hell are you getting oil pooling there? How much oil are you using?
You were totally right! We just finally started using this fryer that we got in 2017. We have used it less than a year and tonight it caught fire!!! We clean this thing all the time because we also noticed the leaking grease. I'm so glad we were in the kitchen, could have burned our house down.

116falconer There's no use in trying to save these idiots good sir.
They are complete retards.
Ps , you should only use about a teaspoon of oil
dandaddavi you're the only one on nearly every comment being an a-hole! Crazy person.
Actually you shouldnt use Any regular oil, except the spray kind. And On the food. And Very little.
Not gonna call your names like other people, but try using it without oil. like when I make air fried chicken I season and lightly coat with pancake mix only.
my philips airfryer vue doesn't leak and they are number # 1 airfryers
i have the 5.3, no oil problem. but i dont use any oil at all...
dont forget the MAX line LOL
Dang...This is crazy!!
😂 SMH
Thanks for sharing..I. Think i will stick to my stove
Mine lasted 7 months and tristar is avoiding me for over 3 weeks. I lost $100 get another brand
You're Not supposed to use oil

BS. Perhaps you left it unattended and passed out drunktard!
@@yukonstriker1703 your so cool
tHIS ISN'T A VEGGIE STEAMER. iT IS A FRYER. YOU DON'T FILL IT EVER WITH WATER.
Thought it was odd the drip pan went all the way to the bottom exposing the coils. Rotissering a chicken and the smoke alarm went off in no time.
Air fryer fried electrical outlet behind machine
you should be getting a new one that is put together right or better then that one
no problem with mine
Just posted a UA-cam air fryer WARNING! Different issue on these.
Mine just died its 3 years old rip
I burnt mine up last night scared me to death I was literally 2 secs from calling fire debt and losing my house!!! But omg I fought it coughing black smoke ended up throwing it out the back door on fire and putting stove out by the kitchen sink hose!! Ha!
Why was your stove on fire drama Queen?
Think I'll throw mine away
Why not take it back? You got a bad one.
long-winded skip to 3:30
Every 6 months thay blow up and need replacing
I had to stop at about 2 minutes simply because it went from being a public warning video, to a dude acting like a salesman doing a comparison! Figure out what you are doing, bro.
No more videos of him because his house burned down
He need sum millkkk
OMG, you would think that the thing would be sealed up and wouldn't leak anything, wouldn't you??? It shouldn't be doing that... seriously... I'm with him, that drawer doesn't want to go back in there very easily either... it drives me crazy... it takes me multiple attempts to get it in there, and it isn't like I can't aim either.... this was a $100 waste of money.... trust me....
May return mine. Bird, people hazard?
Dang, mine is awesome. Perhaps you got a bad unit
Where's it made, CHINA!
LMAO
You oil the FOOD .......................NOT the machine
Carol Binnie, he's likely aware of that.
The instructions say that as well. Smh! Reading is fundamental.
Carol Binnie love the response
What people should know is never walk away from any appliance that is cooking food without turning it off first and keep a kiddie
fire extinguisher and smoke alarm in your kitchen for all types of kitchen fires.
You need to clean after each use. Every couple of weeks!!!! What???
No wonder geez!!!!
Human problem. Not an object problem.
😂
I'm glad I came across this. My machine is months old. I do wipe out the interior after every use. It's just my nervous way around electricity. Even a threat of fire terrifies me ...I just know I could not get out or save my fur babies. I'll be checking my fryer tomorrow best I can. Thank you !
World dumbest at its best it’s says air fryer where does it says to add oil it’s a fire 🔥 hazard because you put a little oil in there
Biggs Vibes thank you some people don’t follow directions
You can add a tablespoon of oil to the food but put in a bowl first and mix it around not pour oil in the air fryer jut mix in a bowl to coat it
Biggs Vibes calm down why so mean it does say you can add oil but like put maybe fresh french fries in a bowl add a little oil and mix it around you can spritz food in the fryer like wings and other chicken parts and other food but never put oil in the basket that’s asking for a fire to start people should read directions a couple of times if they don’t understand or ask someone
From this review I have to let you know one critical part you mentioned. You said you put "olive oil on your asparagus", that is the problem. This is an "air fryer" meaning you don't need any oils the cook your food with, it uses super heated "air".
Then explain why it has an "electrical coil" if it's simply an 'AIR" fryer dumbass?
I just got one of these as a Christmas gift, and right on the top of the package was a big letter about arbitration, which was a huge red flag for me. People have also said the bottom of the fryer gets so hot that it's been known to crack counter tops because of the heat. I'm so scared of using this product, I'm just thinking of asking my relative for the receipt and just get a grill or something.
Solution: Line the bottom pan with foil and there will be no grease in the unit or your counter top.
Great idea 💡 👍
Inproper use of any electrical product. And lack of reading manuel will always yield bad results and bad reviews
It’s made in plastic now.. they owe you two machines..Thank You I live in a mobile home
