- Although the muddler style seems to be synonymous with brown trout fly fishing, they work VERY well for rainbow trout too.
Thi fly is a great cross-over, taking its fair share of both species, fish it on the top dropper of a floating or sink tip line for the best results!
Love the look of this fly, as a New England native I think this is going to be a Brook Trout magnet. Thanks!
Bet it will work for brookies too as they seem to like flys with orange in them! Nice pattern!
Like it Steve, stay safe , Big Davie
I have only now clicked on the bell. When I subscribed years ago, I did not know what the bell was. I love this pattern. You did not have to tell me this fly worked. I know you had it on a 10, but I fancy trying smaller. I have a return trip to Teifi pools coming up soon. They say black with a bit of red. Which I have done. But I really fancy my chances with this. I will let you know how I go. Or better than that. If this fly catches I will mention were it came from. Thanks Steve. All the best. Shaun.
Merci from NW Michigan !!!!!

..there's an old saying about trout fishing in the Nipigon River in Canada...."any color of streamer fly you want, as long as it's black."...
That looks a real killer. Will tie up a few of those for the box.
Killer fly
I have 6 colure of dirty bug yarn what other colures do you recommend .I don't have that specific deer hair so I will use chinchilla rabbit mask. The long hairs on the cheeks is perfect matching colure as your deer hair, only finer. I'll try it on one.If I like it I'll tie more.Thanx
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Interesting pattern, it looks like a cross between a Zulu and a sedge. I will be tying a few, maybe replacing the red tag with a green tag, black and green always works well. Any ideas for combining other traditional patterns?
Sounds great!
Looks great! How would you fish that on a river for brownies....like a downstream wet fly?
I guess so, late at night as the light fades!
i'd imagine this would work well for single or double handed techniques, swing it downstream on a sink tip or polyleader. if you add a splitshot or two right in front, you could work shallower water on a floating line.
It just screams to the trout eat me!
