- Out for the VHS archives another game from the exciting 1985 season and Dwight Gooden's on route performances leading him to win a Cy Young Award. Original WOR Broadcast with Ralph Kiner, Tim McCarver and Steve Zabriski and Includes Kiners Korner (With Strawberry and Gooden)
Recorded off a pre recorded VHS tape which had some damage throughout. Image and Horizontal Hold issues do to damaged tape
After burning this footage through a DVD Recorder in 2002 was unable to correct the frame stabilization so images will appear jumpy and did the best I could to get this rare game up on my youtube
Dwight Gooden sets a couple major league records all in one game by becoming the youngest MLBer to reach 20 wins for a season, he also becomes the first to win 20 games earliest in a MLB season. Gooden only allows 6 hits in 6 inning and one unearned run Roger McDowell comes in and help shut the door for the milestone Win for the Doctor in this historic Mets 1985 game.

Kevin mcreynolds in San Diego
RIP Ralph kiner
R.I.P. Tim McCarver
I had tickets to this game but I had a catering job so I gave my tickets to my Mom and brother. They met Tim McCarver after the game. I was really bummed about that. My tickets and I didn't see Gooden win his 20th game. I bought the tickets in May that year.
You should’ve said fu*k the Catering Job & gone to the American!! ⚾️⚾️⚾️
When the catering is for over 800 people. That is a lot of money.
God bess you for these Mets games.
This is AWESOME! Greatly appreciated! Your early 80's stuff is fantastic!
Doc all time great
Did McCarver laugh when the lead announcer says the outfield is high enough?
Kiner was on fire for this broadcast! He took alot of crap for his "Kinerisms" but he was always good for offering valuable insight regarding strategy during the game. He and McCarver did a great job explaining the games within the game.
Great game
I went to this gsme and many others at Shea. God I miss that place. While I know I can never physically go to Shea again thanks to your many Shea games I can at least visit the next best way sitting in my Shea seats while watching these games!!
I feel the same way Dr Jimmy (and Mr Jim) that’s why we are here 👍😊⚾️
Great times watching mets game
Never missed any of them back then
Incidentally,San Diego's Downtown Mall Horton Plaza opened on Friday August 9,1985.🇺🇸
Roger McDowell with an RBI double. Something we'll never see again. Thanks for the universal DH MLB.
What a shame..bunch corporate assholes whom never played the game in their lives run this shit show & destroying the great game of baseball right out from under us
Grew up a National League fan. Never liked watching AL games much because they took too long and there was less managerial strategy. Universal DH pretty much killed my interest in the game--betting aside. At this point they should just do away with the two leagues and completely realign the divisions
Both Ralph Kiner and Tim McCarver appear so young here. Where has the time gone?
Dr. K Gets win number 20 in 85
Gooden was warming up to Irene Cara's "Flashdance" lol😂
Good times.
Love this 80 s Mets iam a yankee fan Yankees were on wpix Mets on wwor 80 s baseball was the best
Totally forgot the Mets had Larry Bowa for a brief spell.
Kinda weird to see '85 Gooden look mortal. This '85 version of Gooden is the greatest pitcher I've ever seen -- him along with Pedro Martinez, circa 2000.
💖💖💖
1:02:16 Show leaves Kennedy hanging 😆
I'm sure McReynolds didn't anticipate being traded to the Mets.⚾😂🇺🇸
