This actually worked! My weak hand (left) gradually improved!! Thanks
This is exactly what I was looking for. Underrated video and only 70000 views! This one deserves a million or more
Right on. This guy is the best teachers on the net. He will make a lot of better drummers if they follow his instructions. I noticed some improvement after only a couple hours of practice.
Thank you very much for this workout. Everyone that’s serious about Precision should take note of this video. Thank you again
I'm a left hander by nature but when I first sat behind the drums I played right handed and have all my life. So my left hand on the snare is obviously far stronger. Working on this will get my right hand much stronger. Awesome video Bill, thanks
it's been 2 weeks for doing this workout with you and I my doubles have come completely around! Thank you for the interactive video. It helps in the boring practice arena to have someone there with you :) Thanks tons
Glad it helped, check out drumworkout.com for at least 100 more like this. :)
Man...I am so glad I came across this tutorial. Thanks tons. However, my arms are kind of ouchy, but in a good way. many many thanks on helping me get this under my belt. I'll be using this everyday as a warm up/speed up routine.
Bill Bachman is the best rudimental teacher on the planet
What happened to all the Rudiment vids? I had just bought the book and was watching them along with the lessons!!
You just punished my hands and arms and i was cursing you pretty good bout halfway through but it Really has helped..Thanks for all the good and punishing lessons to make us better~
Best double stroke roll lesson I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them. Thanks!
+vargaso I've been doing this exercise the past 4 days, I can't believe how much and how quickly I've improved. This actually works.
Sweet doubles!
exercise starts at 3:15
I can't believe it, went through this whole thing just how u told it and my doubles are much better
Great video!! This is exactly what I needed! Also my neighbours love me now :) but then again, if your’re a drummer and your neighbours for some reason dont hate you, you’re doing something wrong
It comes with the trade, hahahaha!!!
Wow. Playing double stroke is a brain freeze, But you cracked it. Thanks. Unless you play like Steve Gadd why the dislikes/Thumbs down?
Hello :) Is there any sheet music guide for this exercise? Thank you!
Is this the same technique as Gordy Knudtson's Open/Close??
Where's the starter vid you mention at the beginning? The slow section. Thanks
Do I feel tense muscles every time I practice?
what does "free stroke down stroke" mean? thanks
a free stroke is when you let the stick completely rebound (aka a full stroke) a down stroke is when you pull the stick down from the rebound
so with traditional, what would the finger control be? would it be the thumb?
a little late but. mostly use wrist control
What does "down stroke pointing down" mean? I also feel like perhaps some explanation gets skipped at the beginning. Like, are these wrist strokes but then the accent is a finger stroke? Sometimes it sounds like he's saying it's all wrist, other times it sounds like he's saying it's practicing fingers.
It depends on the speed of the doubles. If you are playing slow it's gonna be more wrist and faster it's going to be more fingers
I watched your face as much as your hands -then scrolled your face off and the subject was only your hands -better for me to absorb your tricks ,thank you.
whats the sticking pattern

The shots eventually just become a separate metronome
What is right left left right right?
sounds like a five stroke roll
How long have you practiced to stay so fast? Because when I do feel the muscles intended.
Hernan Teran Are there any videos teaching you how to do this?

You must remain relaxed or you will hurt yourself. Find a speed where you feel no tension and stay there for a while, then gradually, and I mean gradually, increase the speed in small increments. Be aware of any tension building anywhere in your body. Try relaxation techniques, especially breathing smoothly. It is almost impossible to keep time if you are tight and stiff. A few yoga lesson might help in this area. To relax, I also practice playing across a dynamic range from ppp to fff. Try controlling your dynamics as a whole, and with individual limbs while holding the others steady e.g. try modulating the volume of your right hand while holding the other limbs at a steady volume. Later, try increasing one limb while simultaneously decreasing another.
What's the purpose of the rimshot?
***** To show that the second hit of the diddle is open.
+Metzok accent !

I don't understand what I can't understand of this technic, practice it over two months and can't go far for 140 bpm... I feel like I'm waiting my practice time with wrong movements...

video one
Wheres the video where Bachman demonstrates a slow roll all the way to fast, and back to slow??
To be honest, I'm not sure what the point of this video is. It's just fast singles for more than half of the video, then on to doubles at about 240 without any explanation as to how the technique changes - and doubles aren't simply two fast single strokes, as is being implied in the video.
That's what I thought at first too until I realized my form was wrong, mainly with my left hand. Doubles seems to be conceptually similar to the Moeller technique moreso than solely using your fingers. I had to make my left hand comfortable with that technique before I could really even start this exercise. Now I just need to get past 240 bpm lol.
From 180 bpm, my left hand up/down stroke destroyed :(
haha me too. lets keep practice ^ ^
me too. I'm buying his program cause this guy really knows what he's talking about
The audio is off, its not in sync with the vid
My hands stopped at 120/240
yeah he mustve removed another double video he had.
Dont count to eight count to 4!

To get kicked down the stairs and hated by everyone else.
I don't actually see a double stroke used until nearly 28:00... How does single stroking a double stroke roll help your double strokes? It doesn't. If you aren't bouncing, you are rolling, period. Pumping your fingers is not necessary.
Yes, exactly. It's just fast singles, twice in a row, up to 240, and then it's actual double strokes.
You'll even see comments in here talking about not being able to get past 240 because those are the *actual* doubles, and the reason everyone is here.
It's sticking the double stroke roll. When it's slower you stick it so your doubles don't sound crushed.
He explains in the beginning of the video that there isn't one way to play doubles, he makes it clear that the technique and way your hands/wrists move changes based on the speed of the doubles.
Contrary to whatever drum forum you got that info from, a double stroke roll can in fact be as slow as 100 bpm, and yes the way you produce clean & full doubles has to change when you play at a slower bpm than say 220 or whatever.
Tldr: there are multiple techniques to playing double strokes and it varies based on the tempo and the context.
Sean LaMontagne If you aren’t bouncing the stick, you are not playing a double stroke roll. I don’t need any forum- I have been playing for over 40 years. I can play a double stroke roll much slower than that. You only need one technique to play a double stroke roll, period, though I can play other ways as well. If you are snapping the fingers it just means you aren’t working well enough with the rebound.
@@tootallforbaseball Then bust out your iPhone and make a video yourself.
Link me to it when it's ready.
I'm sure with your 40+ years of experience that you'll be waaaaay better at teaching doubles than the guy who's entire job is to teach drums and has published books on the subject.
