I've rewatched Empress Ki and realized that Taltal highly respects the empress, even before he had always praised her for her talents, a highly capable woman. As time passed, I think he developed more than just admiration for her, he cares and love her in his own way. He is one of my favorite characters in all the historical dramas I've seen. He is consistent, he truly cares for their country and serves the good of the people.

Tangqashi's "love" for her is warped and sick so we can discount her. Goodness ,what a pity! 4 men are obsessed with her yet they all died in the end,leaving her alone. Perhaps the most pitiful character is that of Tanasiri's bcs both the men she loved do not love her but are obsessed with sungyang.
There were three great men in Seung Nyang's life. Wang Yu - the soulmate, he's the one who gave new hope for Nyang to lead a life of love after experiencing the loss of her mother. Tahwan - The destiny, he's the one who would gladly give up his kingdom for her. No matter where she ends up, both of them would be together. Taltal - The guardian angel, the one who would see it through the end with her.
I heard that the actor for Tal Tal (Jin Yi Han) said in some interview that Tal Tal is originally and supposed to be one of Seung Nyang's lovers. However, due to the already excessive love lines in the drama, the writers decided to delete Tal Tal and Seung Nyang's love line. Therefore, he only expresses his love silently and with his eyes. The viewers see it as an affection that a teacher has for his student, but he really does actually love her more than that.
He did a good job portraying that in the parameters he was given, but as much as I rooted for her & the Emperor, I would have LOVED to see them have their moments.
Ben ben that was what made it so painful. He obviously loved her. Loved his restraint in showing it. Made it so much more powerful of a performance. They would have made the best couple.

That's probably why he didn't confess as it wouldn't benefit her or the country, out of the 3 main lovers he was the only one who never hurt her.
Mmm i already hated that they made wang so as love rival because he did not exist in history. As much as i liked Tal Tal it would ruin the history even more since togon is with empress gi who had a strong love till death made them apart. Was not a huge fan of how far the love rival stuff went, it made empress gi seem unloyal towards her husband...

I had serious difficulty trying not to ship them. They were perfect. Tal Tal was the last man standing next to her. I hate that the writers cut off the love line... It would've been so beautiful.

Damn those eyes! It melts my heart and soul by just staring back. How can he be so good and genuine in his role as Tal Tal. The simple smiles, the hidden smirks and those longing stares. Tal Tal I want you so bad for Lady Ki! Imissyouu😭
It shows how he loved her and much of caring for her though his eyes. But he knows that it is impossible because standing by her sides was Wang Yoo and Ta-Hwan. In the end, the scene where Yang Yi remembered back the last conversation of her with Tal Tal. He protected her until the end of his life.
TAL TAL, YOU ARE... I'm leaving that sentence unfinished because no words could possibly describe the beauty of this character. I love you, tal tal so much, despite everyone's love interests throughout this story, the way you looked at her, and guided her and your uncle through your wisdom and strength was the most beautiful thing ever. Plus you are VERY VERY good looking and those actions scenes are to die for. BEST CHARACTER EVER.

Taltal best boy🤧.... He literally became my favorite character from the start, not only he is intelligent but actually cares for others around him. He helped empress ki so much, empress ki and taltal were literally the best team. It was obvious how he loved her and respected for her. Legit shipped them so hard but I knew they wouldn't end up together. The ending seriously was so sad honestly he deserves the best 😭
I feel that their relationship had three layers: 1, Mentor/Student - He upgraded her beyond just being a consort and he groomed her to be an Empress by giving her upgrades other women didn't get, how to rule people. 2. Soulmate - Because of the upgrades, they had the same mindset, they could calculate what the other would be doing and trusted each other completely. 3, Like other people said, he grew to love her but couldn't show it because it wasn't appropriate. They would have made a great team even in a marriage, but I don't think she ever felt that kind of attraction to him. He would always remain her Shifu and soulmate.
I loved this drama and the entire cast. Aside Emperor Ta Hwan who stole most of our hearts, it was Tal Tal that caught my attention. Tal Tal for his quiet charm and courage was a great character, a man of few words but abound with wisdom that stood out and how Seung Nyang would confide in him showed that he was someone trustworthy and reliable. Though they weren't a couple in the drama, one can't help but notice the air of compatibility between them. Hope to see them as a couple materialize in future dramas.
I hated that childish little boy who shoulnt ever rule anything, even his morning routine... It was almost unbareable to watch the show when he was on screen. very annoying character. tal tal was of course awesome :D
I’m so mad that the writers chose to “kill” his character....him ending up with Nyang was the obvious ending after the death of the Emperor imo. Apparently the love line between Tal Tal & Nyang was written out, So my hunch that there was something more there between them was right....He did a good job portraying his feelings for her in the parameters he was given, but as much as I rooted for Nyang & the Emperor, I would have LOVED to see them have their moments.
I saw a comment somewhere that it'd be great if Taltal actually survived the battle, but faked his death so that Empress Ki will flee to the northern plains, then meet her there in the future, and maybe that ending could've extended the drama by 2-3 eps :') But the death of all 3 men who were close to her is meaningful in a way because after all the vengeance, all the power struggles, she is cursed to not be in peace Way too many people died that led her to become the woman she is, and some may take revenge as spirits/ghosts (most likely Tanashiri, Empress Dowager, Tangqishi for this theory) I'm also impressed at how far the Emperor has changed after Nyang's appearance, I'm glad she made him strong, but I couldn't bring myself to ship them as much as I shipped her and Taltal or Wang Yu

But Tal Tal only silently love her for many reasons, and keep it hidden deep in his heart. But it can be seen through his eyes. Until when she was whipped in the middle of the drama, he showed concern through his eyes though he still keep his expression controlled. And..... Here comes the rest of the story which made me screamed when i knew about it after the drama had ended. It was mentioned that the casts were in discussion with the writers about Tal Tal and Seung Nyang love line, but since there were too many love lines already, which we all know..between her and Wang Yu, her and the Emperor, so they edited it out from the scripts and be made as 'teacher-student' relationship where he care greatly for his student (i mean she's the first and the best he ever had). So right until he showed that concerned, Tal Tal originally had that 'secret love' for Seung Nyang. The rest were made as 'deeply care' for his beloved student (his creation?). But hey, many fans shipped them both including me and Maria. The acting was so on point even though the actor, JiYiHan, said it was difficult to act through eyes. So the original 'secret love' is still there even if they edited it out from the script. And Maria's theory in her original post is on point to what the writers trying to convey in their original script. Then again, yeah sure i agree with Izabela about friend can cry too, BUT it is definitely love. It is different from the common and tasteless friendship, Tal Tal and Seung Nyang has a deep 'teacher-student' bond which go far being comradeship. Aahhh...now you both made me wanna watch it again...T_T

It's not love with lust, but love of loyalty and respect to the yuan emperor, empress or up to their clans. Based on their conversations/ lines. You can feel the support of taltal to whatever person that needs his loyalty. He basically condone to Sungnyang's advocacy and plans. Only both of them has a parallel plans of making the empire be at its best. I consider them best of buddies. They share the same goals and support, trust each other. That is love and passion towards duty. Salute to Taltal purest service.

ha ji won's character portrayal of sun nyang/ empress ki is so impressive..her chemistry w/ ji chang wook and joo jin mo is really great but she has a special chemistry w/ jin yi han and they look good together....every character in this drama is well portrayed...the drama itself is EPIC!...

At first I was like ugh tal tal is fit but he's probably evil and they can't be together etc etc but then towards the last episodes I just fell in loooove. For ten years, I have been watching Korean drama. This is the best. I will not forget this , NEVER . A drama that makes you love all the characters, suffers and rejoices with them, and grieves at the difficulties that occur, causing you to interact interactively in all its seconds. 51 episodes are never many for the story. She is madly interesting.

I had alot of reservations about this drama since it was 51 episodes but when I got down to it I was unable to put it down.the episodes went by so quickly. Such a great drama. Wish tal and ki ended up together. Those two brains ruling would have been epic.
I think taltal and yang wiuld have had a better love story than king and emperor. He understood her way better and was wise and clever. He was more manly plus survived on its own and helped ki thtough all. Thats the man women want. And je got her attitude, her revenge and everything. He was most selfless.

They were both highly intelligent, they appreciated and trusted each other, that’s bound to arouse feelings. But they had to behave according to their ranks, positions. Especially Tal Tal . Surely he understood he would dye if the Emperor noticed. So he restricted himself to help her, side with her, protect her , whenever possible.

Taltal killed his own uncle because he thinks that his uncle was not doing the right thing, he is causing harm to the people..people are suffering from hunger and killing each other.. but theres sources that taltal loved empress ki in the original plot but the lines were deleted...i think his love was developed during nyang's training to be a consort but it was later deleter...i love them both and i was wishing that theres a chance of them being together after togon died

I remember feeling frustrated when I learnt they gave up on their love line too but looking back at this now after almost a year, I think it couldn't have been better than this. When you watch this, you realize how much in character it is. Tal Tal was a wise man of few words and so was his love for SY, quiet and resigned (because he was wise enough to see it was hopeless). He showed his love through his actions and by the way he stood by her till the end, ah I'm teary eyed T_T As much as I loved the other characters, there is no doubt these two had the best chemistry and had they been together romantically, their dynamics would have been the best. They were equals, both capable and intelligent and brave, definitely the best and strongest pairing out there

Judging from the comments here, I have to say Tal Tal reminds me a bit of two characters: 1. Tushang Jing from Lost You Forever. Tushang Jing is great at everything he does even those the FL meets him when he's destroyed and destitute. He has quiet strength and patience, and has the ability to see the big picture. He also loves 100% to the point of foolishness, though Tal Tal doesn't have this flaw of losing his mind over who he loves. Tushang Jing developed a huge fan club who praise him just like people praise Tal Tal here. 2. Xiao Pingjing in Nirvana in Fire 2 Pingjing had to clean up everyone's mess after their quest for power led to their hurting everyone around them. Tal Tal is constantly trying to fix everyone's mess in the same way.

Yes, TalTal had something going on for Ki but I would have died of sadness if she didn't love the emperor back. It was my first drama of Ji Chang Wook, Ha Ji Won and Jin Yi Han (Tal Tal) and I loved the three of them... The Emperor loved his 'Nyang Nyang' so much, i loved her with him. I am glad that they made Tal tal's love very subtle. Sometimes, some love stories like that are perfect because they don't get to happen.
Those gazes in his eyes for Nyang, it's so romantic and genuine, but sad because he could never love her as a woman, so he just served her as the empress. 😥💔

Perhaps the most pitiful character is that of Tanasiri's bcs both the men she loved do not love her but are obsessed with sungyang.
There were three great men in Seung Nyang's life.
Wang Yu - the soulmate, he's the one who gave new hope for Nyang to lead a life of love after experiencing the loss of her mother.
Tahwan - The destiny, he's the one who would gladly give up his kingdom for her. No matter where she ends up, both of them would be together.
Taltal - The guardian angel, the one who would see it through the end with her.

I heard that the actor for Tal Tal (Jin Yi Han) said in some interview that Tal Tal is originally and supposed to be one of Seung Nyang's lovers. However, due to the already excessive love lines in the drama, the writers decided to delete Tal Tal and Seung Nyang's love line. Therefore, he only expresses his love silently and with his eyes. The viewers see it as an affection that a teacher has for his student, but he really does actually love her more than that.

Taltal best boy🤧.... He literally became my favorite character from the start, not only he is intelligent but actually cares for others around him. He helped empress ki so much, empress ki and taltal were literally the best team. It was obvious how he loved her and respected for her. Legit shipped them so hard but I knew they wouldn't end up together. The ending seriously was so sad honestly he deserves the best 😭
I feel that their relationship had three layers:
1, Mentor/Student - He upgraded her beyond just being a consort and he groomed her to be an Empress by giving her upgrades other women didn't get, how to rule people.
2. Soulmate - Because of the upgrades, they had the same mindset, they could calculate what the other would be doing and trusted each other completely.
3, Like other people said, he grew to love her but couldn't show it because it wasn't appropriate. They would have made a great team even in a marriage, but I don't think she ever felt that kind of attraction to him. He would always remain her Shifu and soulmate.
I loved this drama and the entire cast. Aside Emperor Ta Hwan who stole most of our hearts, it was Tal Tal that caught my attention. Tal Tal for his quiet charm and courage was a great character, a man of few words but abound with wisdom that stood out and how Seung Nyang would confide in him showed that he was someone trustworthy and reliable. Though they weren't a couple in the drama, one can't help but notice the air of compatibility between them. Hope to see them as a couple materialize in future dramas.

I’m so mad that the writers chose to “kill” his character....him ending up with Nyang was the obvious ending after the death of the Emperor imo. Apparently the love line between Tal Tal & Nyang was written out, So my hunch that there was something more there between them was right....He did a good job portraying his feelings for her in the parameters he was given, but as much as I rooted for Nyang & the Emperor, I would have LOVED to see them have their moments.
I saw a comment somewhere that it'd be great if Taltal actually survived the battle, but faked his death so that Empress Ki will flee to the northern plains, then meet her there in the future, and maybe that ending could've extended the drama by 2-3 eps :')
But the death of all 3 men who were close to her is meaningful in a way because after all the vengeance, all the power struggles, she is cursed to not be in peace
Way too many people died that led her to become the woman she is, and some may take revenge as spirits/ghosts (most likely Tanashiri, Empress Dowager, Tangqishi for this theory)
I'm also impressed at how far the Emperor has changed after Nyang's appearance, I'm glad she made him strong, but I couldn't bring myself to ship them as much as I shipped her and Taltal or Wang Yu

Here comes the rest of the story which made me screamed when i knew about it after the drama had ended. It was mentioned that the casts were in discussion with the writers about Tal Tal and Seung Nyang love line, but since there were too many love lines already, which we all know..between her and Wang Yu, her and the Emperor, so they edited it out from the scripts and be made as 'teacher-student' relationship where he care greatly for his student (i mean she's the first and the best he ever had). So right until he showed that concerned, Tal Tal originally had that 'secret love' for Seung Nyang. The rest were made as 'deeply care' for his beloved student (his creation?).
But hey, many fans shipped them both including me and Maria. The acting was so on point even though the actor, JiYiHan, said it was difficult to act through eyes. So the original 'secret love' is still there even if they edited it out from the script. And Maria's theory in her original post is on point to what the writers trying to convey in their original script.
Then again, yeah sure i agree with Izabela about friend can cry too, BUT it is definitely love. It is different from the common and tasteless friendship, Tal Tal and Seung Nyang has a deep 'teacher-student' bond which go far being comradeship. Aahhh...now you both made me wanna watch it again...T_T

You can feel the support of taltal to whatever person that needs his loyalty. He basically condone to Sungnyang's advocacy and plans. Only both of them has a parallel plans of making the empire be at its best. I consider them best of buddies. They share the same goals and support, trust each other. Tal Tal and Empress Ki had a beautiful relationship based on LOYALTY, HONOR, RESPECT, RIGHTEOUSNESS, both wanted PEACE and a better future for the citizens of their countries, fighting to achieve political and economical stability for everyone, that truly was the strongest bond between them and they certainly leaned on each other to accomplish each victory. I couldn’t be more proud of their selfless love and to be totally honest, all of the men that truly loved the empress sacrificed a LOT to support her, none of them were perfect, each one had their own strengths and weaknesses, but they all gave their very best to protect her. Tal tal was the best character in this drama for me. Loyal, filial, stable, not blinded by greed of power or money, smart and wise. He would have been the perfect match with Ki Yang.
For ten years, I have been watching Korean drama. This is the best. I will not forget this , NEVER . A drama that makes you love all the characters, suffers and rejoices with them, and grieves at the difficulties that occur, causing you to interact interactively in all its seconds. 51 episodes are never many for the story. She is madly interesting.

I had alot of reservations about this drama since it was 51 episodes but when I got down to it I was unable to put it down.the episodes went by so quickly. Such a great drama. Wish tal and ki ended up together. Those two brains ruling would have been epic.
I think taltal and yang wiuld have had a better love story than king and emperor. He understood her way better and was wise and clever. He was more manly plus survived on its own and helped ki thtough all. Thats the man women want. And je got her attitude, her revenge and everything. He was most selfless.

They were both highly intelligent, they appreciated and trusted each other, that’s bound to arouse feelings. But they had to behave according to their ranks, positions. Especially Tal Tal . Surely he understood he would dye if the Emperor noticed. So he restricted himself to help her, side with her, protect her , whenever possible.

Taltal killed his own uncle because he thinks that his uncle was not doing the right thing, he is causing harm to the people..people are suffering from hunger and killing each other.. but theres sources that taltal loved empress ki in the original plot but the lines were deleted...i think his love was developed during nyang's training to be a consort but it was later deleter...i love them both and i was wishing that theres a chance of them being together after togon died

I remember feeling frustrated when I learnt they gave up on their love line too but looking back at this now after almost a year, I think it couldn't have been better than this. When you watch this, you realize how much in character it is. Tal Tal was a wise man of few words and so was his love for SY, quiet and resigned (because he was wise enough to see it was hopeless). He showed his love through his actions and by the way he stood by her till the end, ah I'm teary eyed T_T As much as I loved the other characters, there is no doubt these two had the best chemistry and had they been together romantically, their dynamics would have been the best. They were equals, both capable and intelligent and brave, definitely the best and strongest pairing out there

Judging from the comments here, I have to say Tal Tal reminds me a bit of two characters:
1. Tushang Jing from Lost You Forever.
Tushang Jing is great at everything he does even those the FL meets him when he's destroyed and destitute. He has quiet strength and patience, and has the ability to see the big picture. He also loves 100% to the point of foolishness, though Tal Tal doesn't have this flaw of losing his mind over who he loves. Tushang Jing developed a huge fan club who praise him just like people praise Tal Tal here.
2. Xiao Pingjing in Nirvana in Fire 2
Pingjing had to clean up everyone's mess after their quest for power led to their hurting everyone around them. Tal Tal is constantly trying to fix everyone's mess in the same way.
I finished this series over a year ago... and I still love TalTal's character! I even bought the whole series! Wanna watch it at least once a year.

Tal Tal, en este personaje envuelve totalmente, quede impactada con su actuacion tan fina y estetica. Simplemente el actor hizo suyo este personaje y me fascino.

Yes, TalTal had something going on for Ki but I would have died of sadness if she didn't love the emperor back. It was my first drama of Ji Chang Wook, Ha Ji Won and Jin Yi Han (Tal Tal) and I loved the three of them... The Emperor loved his 'Nyang Nyang' so much, i loved her with him. I am glad that they made Tal tal's love very subtle. Sometimes, some love stories like that are perfect because they don't get to happen.
Those gazes in his eyes for Nyang, it's so romantic and genuine, but sad because he could never love her as a woman, so he just served her as the empress. 😥💔
