@@jussikankinen9409 You're not kidding either. Chrissy tells in her book about being turfed into the gutter after tag teaming with her manager against a couple of bouncers. More than once too.
my first career was in Pub rock n roll management....from 1980 in Melbourne.... for those discovering Aussie bands of old...it helps to understand why so many Aussie bands were so good and so tight, both live and as songwriters...it's because they played almost every night..there was so many venues around Oz until the late 80's...with such an avid fan base that there was plenty of opportunity and time to practice and learn their craft on stage....Chrissy and Mark were pros....I once saw them 2 nights in a row, they were right up there with the best at the time....she was a firecracker!!!!!
I would’ve killed to be in your shoes. I love Icehouse as well as Midnight Oil, eclectic voices coming from a far away land. Enchantment at its finest. I listen to these bands to this very day and enjoy the memories they inspire. You sir were a lucky man.
Funny you mention that so many venues were around Oz in the 1980s. We experienced the same thing in Ottawa, Canada from the late 1970s until the early 1990s - plenty of live venues, and plenty of talent, all types of music too. Reggae, punk, blues, hard rock, great cover bands, and lots of original stuff as well. Restaurants would host live music on the weekends just to get customers. High schools had dances all the time with their own great bands. Fun times! There was a thriving cassette dupe business cranking out tapes by the hundreds. The cassette companies switched to CDs early on. Studios did a roaring business too. We were buying each others' music, but sadly sales weren't very good outside Ottawa/Montreal for most bands. Then suddenly in the mid 1990s most of the scene went away. All the young people were playing computer games instead of picking up instruments.
Mon Tue Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday every night in Sydney. I remember seeing inxs as a young group every Tuesday in 1980. Within 2 years they had Shabooh Shoobah out and American college stations were playing. Many great others. Split Enz Midnight oil The Angels. Etc etc etc.
@@briankennedy1192 I loved Split Enz and as well as Crowded House. When Inxs first came out, my sister and I were mesmerized by Michael Hutchence. Some of the best music still.

I have never heard of the Divinyls being called a one hit trick. If so what was their one hit? Boys in Town? Science Fiction? Motion? Pleasure and Pain? I touch myself? Etc.
@@detaildon it is a magical song, it's like their whole career was to follow the path that led to that great song that enchants anyone who hears it. A great song that grabs everyone the first time they hear it is the closest thing to a miracle there is.

Waiter!....I'll have what she's having...well, maybe in my younger day!...CHRISSY IN CHARGE...who needs a director when you have Chrissy multi-tasking and keeping everybody on their toes including some hapless camera techs...the stage was her indisputable domain, especially this night. Chrissy was in rare form, packing plenty of dynamite and maybe a little something else as well. Chrissy...''After tonight, I don't think we'll get any camera men filming us.'' (laughs)...Hard to believe this shy little thing used to perform with her back to the audience...so glad she emerged from her cocoon.
+Warren552011...Yeah, I think with her earlier association with Jeremy Paul and then of course Mark, she realized she was getting into the deep end, and opportunity was knocking the door down...make it or break it time. And as far as presenting one's own original work, it can come from a different place in the mind and the heart, and may expose vulnerable areas...like tossing a piece of your diary to the audience, and you're opening yourself to a more acute degree of critical acceptance and everybody deals with it differently. After all, ''Boys ln Town'' (in my mind) was a description of her personal exploits around Geelong, and maybe more so, Torquay and the beaches. I have a mental image of Chrissy doing ''Hey Big Spender'' and let me assure you...it's WAY over the top!....Yeah, from what I've read, I get the impression that she was quite the young'un. I don't know how others react to what's presented above, but everytime I watch it I danmed near piss myself laughing. This girl was doing ''high'' comedy while delivering great music...anybody else trying this would look buffoonish....Chrissy turns it into an art form...SIMPLY FUCKIN BRILLIANT!!!
