  • On the bottom of Husqvarna Automowers there is a rubber boot that is used to keep the cutting system seal while also allowing the cutting motor to move up and down to change the height of cut. This rubber boot, or "Bellows" as it is labeled in the Husqvarna IPL, is a crucial part that keeps moisture and water out of the chassis as the mower runs over wet grass or through water puddles. Many people have a "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality with their Automower. But this is a part that Husqvarna actually suggests replacing at least every 3 years just to be safe. In this video we show you the procedure for replacing this rubber boot on a 400 and 500 series Husqvarna Automower.

What can of spray do you recommend to clean the deck around the bellows? WD40?

Should there be one on a 435x AWD?

No, but the AWD should have the seal talked about in this video: ua-cam.com/video/8b1cY9Sn7E8/v-deo.html

We are having trouble with uneven cutting (unlike our prior 2 seasons). Could a bad bellow be the cause? How often is it recommended to change the bellow? Thanks so much for your clear helpful videos!

Uneven cutting wouldn't be caused by the bellows because it is just a seal to keep moisture out of the chassis. Uneven cutting is usually caused by a wheel issue, damaged blades, missing or damaged cutting system hardware, or and issue with the cutting height adjustment system.

@@RoboticMowerServices I am in my 7th season with a 450x. I had uneven cutting this spring; the problem was not enough mowing time. I had reduced mowing time last fall when the grass was barely growing, and forgot to increase this spring. Because of incomplete coverage, the 450x was doing a lot of spiral cutting where the grass was longer; this further decreased coverage because spiral cutting is slower than normal mowing. I increased the schedule by 2hrs/day, and now the lawn is perfect again.

Your videos are always helpful! Can we order the bellows online or have to go to the dealer?

You can order parts through our website www.roboticmowerservices.com or if you don't see the part you are looking for listed there just send an email to roboticmowerservices@gmail.com with the info for your mower and what parts you are looking for. We have a lot of parts on the website already, but still have a lot more that we are adding as we get the time.

Can boot problems be a cause of the "cutting height blocked" error? I got this error recently trying to go from height 7 to max. 450x.

It is very unlikely that the error is caused by this boot. It is almost always a problem with the adjusting mechanism inside the mower.
