for the ending, it would've been funny if you, instead of spamming those vampire knives, just drank the brews in rapid succession. I wonder if there's a mod that makes it completely removes potion sickness cooldown like this

You can bring the cooldown to 15 seconds if you have a Charm of Myths as well. It’s made with the Philosopher’s Stone & the Band of Regeneration You used to be able to stack them on 1.3 console (to my knowledge), but not PC ever. They don’t stack anymore.
If you want consistent healing for 120hp, try using honeyfin. They can be caught in honey, and are the only other fish to be caught in it, other than Bumblebee Tuna, which is for quests anyways. And if you also want consistent lower potion sickness, restoration potions can do that. However they are alot harder to get. I never knew that the strange brew was now a combination of the two! Very good video as always sockrteez!
When I did my 1.4.4 playthrough, I've found the skeleton merchant and I was surprised when I saw the big tool tip that the Strange Brew had, and when I've tried it, I pretty much used it till Hardmode, that potion is really good even in Master Mode, because you can get a reduced time and better healing before you get the Philosopher's Stone.

I've been using the pink potions you get from the underworld because I checked the stats and they provide 1.2 times the healing (3/4 the sickness, 90% of the health)

I noticed it was changed a while ago when playing terraria, found it being sold then went "oh cool it got reworked... Could be useful I guess... Still looks like trash tho" then just kept playing without buying a single one
I saw the new things added when I found him early on in my playthrough and noticed the change. Those strange brews are actually really good pre hard mode now
Pre 1.4.4, i always wanted it to be used like a mana potion only being able to heal health if potion sickness is gone. 400 mana for a potion is insane!
i think the invincibility part wasnt talked about enough, along with luck. because if the point is "lower cooldown with good healing" then yes strange brew COULD be alright for a bit. but its really inconsistent, especially compared to a restoration potion. you COULD have a 40 (30) second cooldown with 120 hp with 4 sec invincibility, which is good but you could also have a 70 (52.5) second cooldown with 70 hp and no invincibility, which is pretty bad so i wanted to do some math to make it clearer why the invincibility and luck would matter. on average it heals 95 hp per potion at a cooldown of 55 (41.25) sec 103 hp per normal healing potion cd. you, on average, heal 3 health more. three. health. restoration potion has a 45 (33.75) second cooldown and heals 90 health, but *consistently*. now how much of a difference does this make all? well, i have the stats more organized further in this comment stats bcus im a dork (and bcus i use them later) : [note : i use HP/s to show the relation between the heals and cooldown. imagine you heal every second your potion is on cooldown and you can actually get that health in a burst] Strange brew Heals 70-120 HP [95 on average] Gives 40-70 seconds of potion sickness [~55s] (30-52.5 seconds with the Philosopher's Stone [~41.25s]) Effectively heals 1-3 HP/s [~1⅔ HP/s] (1⅓-4 HP/s with the Philosopher's Stone [~2⅓ HP/s]) Has a chance to apply 0-4 seconds of invincibility (longer = rarer) Restoration Potion Heals 90 HP Gives 45 seconds of potion sickness (33.75 seconds with the Philosopher's Stone) Effectively heals 2 HP/s (2⅔ with the Philosopher's Stone) Healing Potion (got tired) Heals 100 HP Gives 60 seconds of potion sickness (45 with pstone) Effectively heals 1⅔ HP/s (close to 2⅓ with pstone) now, comparing the stats of the strange brew to a restoration potion and a healing potion : *[NOTE : SUMMARY OF THE COMPARISON IS FURTHER DOWN IF YOU DONT WANNA READ A LOT]* The Strange Brew Heals : Between 30 less health and 20 more health then a Healing Potion, on average 5 *less* health. The Strange brew is an interesting item. Personally, I prefer to use Restoration Potions which only have a 45 Second cooldown at base, and they consistently heal 90 HP, which combined with a Charm of Myths which is my most used Hardmode accessory, it's down to like 35ish seconds if I remember right, while being much more consistent (and somewhat easier to obtain) than the Strange Brew. You can either get them with 1 Glowing Mushroom, 1 regular Mushroom, Pink Gel, and a Bottle, or you can find them in Shadow Chests in Hell so I usually have a ton by the time I fight WoF or the Mechanical Bosses if I save Skeletron for hard mode.
I actually thought this item was pretty unique being the only potion to have lower duration of potion sickness and it had some real value when you used it with the stone
I realized the power of the strange brew on my MM-FTW play through. I was having alot of difficulty fighting the wall of flesh, and the strange brew was one that that helped make the fight more winnable.
Prior to the rework it restored 80 Health and 400 mana, giving it a unique effect combined with the Mana Flower. When the Mana Flower selects a potion to consume to resupply Mana automatically, it selects similarly to ammo (from top left to bottom right of inventory). If it sees a Strange Brew first, it would consume it because it restored Mana, and then apply both the Mana Sickness and Potion Sickness Debuffs, restoring 80 Health in the process. The Mana Flower does not observe the Mana Sickness debuff, but does observe Potion Sickness, so for this reason having a regular Mana Potion (i.e. Greater Mana Potion) _after_ the Strange Brew in inventory would allow it to be consumed until the Potion Sickness wears off. Once the cooldown is over on health potions, the Strange Brew would be able to be consumed again for another 80 Health. This allows you to automatically restore health (rather slowly) which I find neat and sad to see has been lost.
Only issue is that aside from the small I-frames it provides, a regular greater healing potion provides more heals than the mystery brew, and since greater healing potions are even easier to get hardmode, it essentially completely beats this out.
I only recently noticed that the strange brew was changed, but I prefer the restoration potion, which was also recently changed, because it's easy to find in the underworld, can be crafted, and it's effects are more consistent.
It's really useful early game, i myself bought over 200 of these (pre boss world) because they're way easier to get than regular healing potions, and heal more hp than lesser healing potions. They also come with additional properties such as that of invincibility frames.
It would be smart to try and hit that i-frame buff prior to a fight, then swap to your regular pots during the fight. The last thing you need in the middle of something like Duke Fishron is a 2 minute pot cd (or 1:30 if you run alch stone/charm of myth). If it could be crafted into an upgraded version, I think people would pay more attention to it. (either with increased healing, stronger effects/longer list of effects, or both)
In my experience, Skeleton Merchant NEVER spawns if you are carrying enough money to buy his Yoyo glove, which is why you need to put your money on a piggy bank so that he spawns AND you can buy his stuff
combine it with the band that u need to combine with another philosopher's stone and then u have 50% less potion sickness. Also you can combine it with a mimic necklace (maybe it's called invincibility necklace but not so sure) so you have more eyeframes
I do wish there were more unique healing items like this later in the game. Btw, if you're having problems with npcs reducing enemy spawnrate underground you should probably just place a shadow candle somewhere nearby. All you're losing is a single spawn slot if you do that.
personally i would even use the strange brew before it's rework up until hardmode since you could basically have an infinite supply of slightly better healing potions
I’ve heard of this before, i remember in my master mode for the worthy run I saw a skeleton merchant selling strange brews. I looked at the description and didn’t seem that worth it because it’s all based on luck.
honestly i prefer the old brew... it was one of the few items for pre hard and slightly post hardmode that did both healing and mana at the same time, and i'd often use it in combination with the spectre mask set early on when moon lord had just come out to heal our tank.
I mean, you can exploit the skelly merchant, as long as you have a bed and material for a house for you to sleep, you can keep resting and skeeping moons till you can get everything, assuming you have the materials conveniently with you, I did this before for that light pet he sells and other stuff. Kinda time consuming tho
the i-frames thing is really good to dodge things in master mode tho, but i really didn't knew that. i saw this potion while exploring the underground and thought it was useless, nice to know it's a great option in early-HM!
You did not mention that the invulnerability effect only has a 61% chance of activating 1 of 3 different lengths of invulnerability. because of this i would not consider this as a free get out of jail card for avoiding instakills, or hard hits in general.
I think that the Strange Brew could be better than normal potions... but it's on luck, invinc frames are always good, but you always run the chance of a lesser healing potion and barely lesser sickness so, can be good, just need rng to be on your side that day
could you do rejuvination potions as they are one of the best prehard mode healing items i could find i use them to help beat modded bosses prehard mode due to this (leviathan and such) and would love to have more love shined on them
when are we getting the greater strange brew, where it heals 400 hp but gives you a random potion effect ill make a senario about it me: *fighting moonlord* also me: drinks greater strange brew to heal still also me: oh fuck ive got ammo reservation what the hell am i gonna use this for
Still going through the first playthrough trying to figure everything out But I found the skeleton merchants and he was selling this and I had about thirty gold on me and I spent almost all of that on those potions because they seemed like a good deal and they are great to use and they have only gotten better since I got a philosopher's stone , shiny stone(golem),charm of myths And that's the setup for the character when I need to run away and regen
It is seriously overpowered I use it all the time because since it has mana it is affected by the mana flower meaning you can heal every time you have zero mana
It’s really only useful in damage builds imo, since if you have good reaction time you can effectively dodge unavoidable hits
why use the RoD to avoid the Phantasmal Deathray when you could instead use the power of funky underground skeleton juice and gambling
@@veryloudcat8839 hell yeah, gotta love having 27 defense going against moonlord

stats bcus im a dork (and bcus i use them later) :
[note : i use HP/s to show the relation between the heals and cooldown. imagine you heal every second your potion is on cooldown and you can actually get that health in a burst]
Strange brew
Heals 70-120 HP [95 on average]
Gives 40-70 seconds of potion sickness [~55s] (30-52.5 seconds with the Philosopher's Stone [~41.25s])
Effectively heals 1-3 HP/s [~1⅔ HP/s] (1⅓-4 HP/s with the Philosopher's Stone [~2⅓ HP/s])

Effectively heals 2 HP/s (2⅔ with the Philosopher's Stone)
Healing Potion (got tired)
Heals 100 HP
Gives 60 seconds of potion sickness (45 with pstone)

Between 1 HP/s more or less then a Restoration potion, on average ⅓ HP/s less (due to using the not rounded numbers for calculations). With a Philosopher's stone, between 1⅓ HP/s more or less, on average, again, ⅓ *less* .
gives invulnurability :
more then the other pots (the others dont)
summary of comparison :
Heals slightly less slightly faster then a healing pot, but the other way around with a restoration pot, on average.
however, in terms of how much you heal how fast, it does better then healing pot but worse then restoration pot, again, on AVERAGE.
but, if you get lucky it could be better then both!!

You can tank daytime eol with this weapon if you are fast enpugh to use the potion, i tried it with a full dodge build and it synergises amazingly
You do WHAT to the skeleton merchant
Glad to enlighten people on Strange Brew Supremacy
You did not mention that the invulnerability effect only has a 61% chance of activating 1 of 3 different lengths of invulnerability. because of this i would not consider this as a free get out of jail card for avoiding instakills, or hard hits in general.
I think that the Strange Brew could be better than normal potions... but it's on luck, invinc frames are always good, but you always run the chance of a lesser healing potion and barely lesser sickness so, can be good, just need rng to be on your side that day
“This item is a game changer” a pre hard mode level healer that costs an accessory slot. Yeah this will change everything
I just bought 100 of these right at the start of prehardmode, it was a lifesaver.
Unironically probably the only reason I beat zenith wof, that bastard was nerfed to death I swear because he was a menace
I have used this items in my first 1.4.4 playtrough amd i realized it got changed so i abused it lol.
had no idea about the I frames and potion sickness changes
i just bought a few thousand of these the other dya ahahahah
That potion used to give an insane amount of mana
I thought this item used to be overpowered, but maybe this change is a buff, since it now caters to all classes.
could you do rejuvination potions as they are one of the best prehard mode healing items i could find
i use them to help beat modded bosses prehard mode due to this (leviathan and such) and would love to have more love shined on them
It used to heal 50 hp and mana while having half potion cooldown
No, it didn't
I discovered it a few days ago when I purchased it from the travelling merchant!
Sock, can i ask how you go about making your thumbnails? I'm just curious because they look incredible :))
DUDE THATS WHAT IVE BEEN SAAAYIYNNGG MAAAAN
I remember it once healed tons of mana and some health.
Regenerative Loadouts have taken flight.
when are we getting the greater strange brew, where it heals 400 hp but gives you a random potion effect
ill make a senario about it
me: *fighting moonlord*
also me: drinks greater strange brew to heal
still also me: oh fuck ive got ammo reservation what the hell am i gonna use this for
At the start i thought he was talking about vampire knives 😂
I like the old one more as you could combine it with the mana flower for auto healing when mana gets low.
That use to make the spectre hood and armor so op
The only reason I miss the old one
Still going through the first playthrough trying to figure everything out
But I found the skeleton merchants and he was selling this and I had about thirty gold on me and I spent almost all of that on those potions because they seemed like a good deal and they are great to use and they have only gotten better since I got a philosopher's stone , shiny stone(golem),charm of myths
And that's the setup for the character when I need to run away and regen
The honeyfin is pretty good in pre hardmode
Man, I just wish there were items that could heal other players. A magic healing staff, splash healing potions... something!
I got really mad when I learned it was overhauled. It used to give 400 mana and 200 HP, which was NUTS
can you take a look at the more obscure hardmode ore armour sets (anything other than titanium or orichalcum)
The strange brew would be in the gambling class if there was one in 1.4.4!
It is seriously overpowered I use it all the time because since it has mana it is affected by the mana flower meaning you can heal every time you have zero mana
Does cross necklace make the invincibility longer?
Could somebody tell how to get to that insane speed of vampire knifes at 3:35
mods
how did you get that attack speed on the vampire knives?
Okay. I don't normally play Melee. What the heck is happening at 3:35?
