CCM Spitfire First Ride and Review

  • Finally got round to making a video of my initial thoughts on the new CCM Spitfire. The footage was taken like 6 month ago, so sorry if it doesn't make much sense!
There's some footage from the first ride back in July 2018, and then most is my review from a couple months after, having done 2000 miles around the UK.

agree completely with the others who have commented on the truly awful road manners you have. You ride like a complete idiot. To avoid being hit off by a car you are completely reliant on all the other road users driving properly just as you do the complete opposite. You are relying on them being aware of your presence as you undertake, overtake or go between them when they are most likely completely unaware of your presence but most likely to change direction over lane.
People like you get motorcycling a bad name in the same way that knobs in hot hatches do for cars.

Good review. I love the look of these and have done since they were on show in 2017. However, I get bored of bikes easily and I think that 600 single motor will soon get me looking to move it on. You said it yourself in the video, after 60mph it starts to run out of power. Great commuter bike for round town ,but not a Sunday blast type of machine.

I appreciate it is lockdown, but can you give a long term review. Anything you have found? How is it to clean? Does it vibrate tol much? Anything we prospective owners might want to know.

Hope your staying safe in Morocco! And thanks, anything really will be of use. Most reviews I can find on here are from people who have taken it out once and made their thoughts from one ride, or dont really have many miles on the clock, so you dont really get to the nitty bitty stuff.
Really, I've purchased a Six (yet to be delivered) without any reviews really being around. When I purchased my other bikes I researched to find out what corroded and needed extra love, what mechanically is questionable, how the servicing goes. Etc, but as so few CCM spitfire reviews are online I've had to take a gamble. The forums are something but I'm not sure how many people use them and as to how unbiased the reviews will be.

@@hjsamuel4575 Yeah hopefully when this whole thing blows over I'll pass you on some twisty windy road.
One thing I have been scratching my head over is how are you carrying your luggage for your trips? I know the bikes aren't sold as tourers and have limited / next to no space for gear. I think I'm going to have to make a rack to go over the rear wheel but I'm not sure till I can see the bike in person infront of me. Is this possible do you think or do I need to explore other options? In terms of other mods is it possible to whack a centre stand on?
Also the keyless fob. Have you had the battery run out on you and if so, do you need to reprogram the fob? I know that can be an issue for cars but who knows for this bike. I have a trickle charger which shouldn't mean it's a problem but sometimes I have to leave the country for 6 months a time.
Finally, have you noticed any parts which are corroded / starting to show symptoms of corrosion. That way I can give them some extra love when cleaning and maintaining.

It’s a shame because the review on the bike is good - honest and fair. But it’s sullied by the in-town riding where you are riding what appears to be dangerously. I’m a bike rider but I also drive and, from discussions I have with other drivers, I know that it is that kind of riding that really pisses-off drivers and gives motorcyclists a bad name. And, although I don’t know you, I’m actually quite concerned about your safety (as are others in the comments). On the bike - I still don’t get how CCM get away with saying that the bike is British when the engine is Swedish but maybe that’s just me. (CCM told me that if they made their own engine it would make the bike a load more expensive - as if it wasn’t expensive enough as it is!). It seems like a very expensive “bitsa” in my opinion. Ride safely, chap!

@@jonathanprior6025 Thanks for the praise and constructive criticism. I agree that it's not exactly a British bike, but at least it is made in the UK by a British company, in this day and age that's enough to call it British. I disagree on the price however, I paid 8k for mine, 1k less than a vitpilen 701, and much less plasticy and better made in my opinion. And 2 years later it's still worth 8k. Are you looking at one because you are considering them? If you are, just ride one and you'll love it!
