I like that the original BSG’s bridge has two dedicated twin-barrel turrets protecting it from aircraft attacks. That’s one way to prevent that iconic A-wing kamikaze scene in the first Battle of Endor from Star Wars
Apparently, you missed the episode, "Fire In Space". It's the one that airs right after "The Living Legend". In that episode, the Cylons launch one of their massive attacks on the Galactica. Apollo, Sheba, & Starbuck, are the only three Viper pilots, between this major Cylon assault force, and the Battlestar. There are just too many Cylon Raiders, and at that particular centon, not enough Colonial Warriors. Anyway, at least THREE Cylon Raiders, each loaded with 'Solenite' explosive, head straight at the Galactica! One of the Raiders, is taken out before it can hit the ship. But despite the best efforts of Apollo, Sheba,, & Starbuck, two of the Raiders, manage to complete their strike against the Galactica! One Raider, does get nailed, mere microns before it can actually ram the Galactica's bridge. But because the fighter is packed full of 'Solonite', it still manages to severely cripple the bridge, and critically wound Cmdr Adama! The other Cylon Raider, manages to crash and detonate it's payload in one of the Galactica's landing bays!
Having the bridge at the front like that is probably not the smartest thing to do. Prefer it in the newer series where it's in a more central location so an attack like would be impossible anyways and it's harder to get to when boarding.
@@ColJenkins Yep. Star Trek & Star Wars all have the bridge on top of the ship and exposed. With the sensors they have available, it wouldn't be necessary to put the bridge in an exposed location.
@@richardlahan7068 Or you go with a split, with the bridge used by lookouts, and command staff in a control room deep inside, like the Auxiliary Control room in the original Star Trek series.
@@ColJenkins Exactly, this is one of the reasons why the new series is simply better than the original (which I also loved). The original was family-fun, a new human settlement every week. That despite the fact that it was an extinction-level event for the Colonial civilization. The new series, while not perfect towards the end, at least had some actual though go into it.
I watched the Reimagined series first 5 years ago, I was planning to rewatch it so I decided to watch the original BSG first and boy it was nice, personally I think it hasn't aged that well, but I realized how much the people behind the Reimagined respected the original.
The 1978 one, yes. The 1980 one was a huge disappointment EXCEPT for one episode, "Return of Starbuck" which ironically may be the best episode of either the 1978 or 1980 BSGs. I liked the Ronald Moore reboot, but I don't consider it Battlestar Galactica but rather its own thing. Here's hoping the reboot they're working on is as great as the original 1978 version. It's too bad that so many of the original actors have passed away because it would be awesome if they could include them somehow. Dirk Benedict (Starbuck) is still alive though, as are some of the younger cast from back in those days.
That’s looks great! I’m a model fan because there’s some subtleties that lend itself to realism v animation but this is good. The zoom in is excellent and better than original. One of the first renderings I can’t pick out that it’s not modeling which is very impressive

Superb work. Classic BSG was great -- they gave more insight into other worlds and cultures with a 10 second background shot than the "reimagining" did in an entire season.
Video was awesome just wish it was longer and had a more detailed look at the model from all sides and one more thing that was very cool was seeing some gun turrets in the original we see the guns but not the over all placements

I do not recall ever seeing the gun emplacements that you have port and starboard of the Command deck...is that your idea or did it come form a cannon source?
That's my idea. In the play, there are very few images that give us a peek at the layout of the gun turrets. I added gun turrets in various points (about 100) as I thought it would increase the defense for the trip to the earth.

I’m confused about the original show reportedly cost one million dollars PER EPISODE, and that was back in ‘78! Meanwhile they reused the same space footage in literally every single episode. How does that add up?
AFAIK the culprit was that they used millions to make movie-quality sets, costumes and special effects - original Star Wars cost 11 millions to make, original Battlestar Galactica spent similar amount of money to shoot the pilot episodes Saga of a Star World. After that they made the rest of the episodes, around 20 of them, for another 10 millions which was around average cost for a TV show production at the time and not enough for fancy stuff like new special effect shots which then had to be reused over and over from the pilot. It was in part fault of the studio for demanding a series right away after the pilot episodes/miniseries and not giving it enough money and time.
