    Is the Texas Heeler your favourite dog breed?

    My Texas Heeler is just the best dog I've ever had. She is such a people pleaser and is always checking in to see if she is doing what I am asking correctly lol she is a farm dog tho so she has a lot of work, they can be destructive if not busy.

    my Texas Heeler Grasshopper is smartest dog I have ever had and I have had a good many dogs. First off she is a one man dog very protective but not overly so, very skilled in hearding cows and running obstacle course

    Love my Texas Heeler ! He is extremely needy and he will tear everything up if he feels neglected. I play frisbee with him almost daily and he catches them pretty well. I have to buy a new frisbee every other day as he loves to chew on it before he brings it back to me. He is shedding like crazy right now and drives my wife nuts. Haro is 8 months old !

      Try the squirrel frisbee!! It's a more durable fabric Frisbee, nicer on their mouth when catching too! ❤

    Such a gift that you featured our girl Shelby in this piece. Thank you! Our girl is such a blessing in our lives and the lives of our family and friends. I like how you talked about the shedding. We refer to her hair as "glitter". I know some people feel that their Texas Heeler or other breeds can get destructive if not exercised well each day. We are very blessed with Shelby, she is happy to just be with other and friends, family and her other four legged friends. As a puppy she was a bit destructive with removing rose plants, thorns and all. Now as she is 4.5 years old she just smells the flowers.

    I have 2 littler mates but instead of an Australian shepherd dad was a mini Australian shepherd. They are the best dogs ever! Loving, loyal, expressive, and fun! We live on a creek and they love to launch off the dock and swim. Question is a mini Texas Heeler a breed that is intentionally being bred?

    We've had a Texas heeler for 14 years. We got him from a neighbor that no longer wanted him. He's my youngest son's dog and he's hilarious! He lived with an Akita for many years, so he has quite a vocabulary. He howls like my Akita did. And he makes other strange sounds. I now have a purebred cattle dog. She does not have our Texas heeler's vocabulary. She mainly grunts, groans and barks. She doesn't howl. Our Texas heeler is better around other dogs that my cattle dog is.

    I had 1st pick from a litter of 8 in Anderson County, TX and boy howdy I got lucky. The litter was unforseen, Shepherd momma hopped the ranch fence to meet Heeler daddy. I chose the only "blue" puppy. Luckily her coat doesn't shed which might be uncommon. She's 11 years old now, always was and still is 49lbs of muscle, never ever had a single health problem or needed a vet visit. Still fast enough to catch balls before they hit the ground, doing backflips to catch frisbees. She is quiet and polite, there is never a false alarm when she barks. Never whines or begs. She will wait patiently at the door to be let inside - rain, sleet, snow, hail, or summer heat, and will only let out a single yip after she's convinced you forgot her outside (she's right every time). Follows me around, eager to join on a walk or drive. She is great off-leash, trots from mailbox to mailbox to sniff, always keeping an eye on me to never get more than 20 yards away - I jingle the leash and she runs to heel. Comes, sits, stays, lays down, brings the ball, etc with hand signals, verbal commands, finger snaps, whistles, or anything else (she learns immediately). She is affectionate towards cats, doesn't dig, not destructive whatsoever, and sometimes seems like a mind reader. Unbelievable dog. Downside - she only eats meat or cheese and therefore does not function as a vacuum cleaner.

    Australian cattle dog and Australian Shepherd becomes TEXAS heeler?

    • @Rocadog
      @Rocadog  3 роки тому +7

      It sounds wierd, but the Australian Shepherd is actually USA dog breed as well, from California. The Texas heeler is named Texas, because it was developed in this state.
      Next to Australian Shepherd, there are some other misnomers in the dog world. Some examples: American Eskimo is German breed, Great Dane is not danish, but german as well.. Labrador Retriever is from Newfoundland and not from Labrador. Japanese Chin does not have its origin in Japan. Tibetan Spaniel is from Tibet, but it is not a Spaniel. And last one on my mind is Old English Sheepdog, which is neither very old and not really english, since its ancestors are most likely from Scotland and possibly from Rusia.

    We have two Texas Heelers, two females that we got from a rescue that brought them to VA from Texas. They are mother and daughter and the sweetest, best dogs. Mother is amazing and was a breeding dog. I would highly recommend this breed, they are real couch potatoes but love exercize too.

    I have a texas heeler she is very loving, smart and protective. She is very shy around strangers she doesn't like for people to pet her. She backs away....like don't you dare touch me! Is that normal?

    They must be properly raised and socialized. They are intense dogs. Not for the weak of heart and not a starter dog. Mine in 22" at the withers and over 70lbs. Show him a trick once and he's got it..but only if he feels like it.

      ...its coming. Might not shed like blue heeler, which is 24/7..but they do shed. My heeler blows her coat heavily come July-August and I have hail balls blowing like tumbleweeds around my garage. She gets good brushing 3-5 times a week and I still get lost of hair in the vaccum bucket /cup.

    My boy is almost completely blue heeler, but either his grandpa or great grandpa was an Australian Shepherd. His characteristics are also almost completely blue heeler, except he has very slightly longer hair on his neck and upper chest. I would also mention longer hair on his tail, but I have seen pure bred blues with relatively furry tails. I was wondering if he would be more accurately described as a Texas Heeler or just Blue Heeler, given his one not-so-distant Ausi Shepherd ancestor.
