I love WW and I will keep on playing it, no doubt. It's pretty much the best melee spec from a gameplay perspective in WoW. But this fun and engaging and rewarding gameplay is what shrouds a lot of problems the spec has. In BfA, for WW it wasn't only low dps in a raiding environment: it's bad scaling; It's why bring a WW when you can bring a a Brewmaster for the debuff and ring of peace, especially since Brew was and will be such a solid tank. It's the fact that you can bring a Havoc DH that did higher dps and is so easy that my gran crushes the meters with it. For M+, as it stands right now on beta, melee is getting punished a lot more in shadowlands dungeons than range dps, so there will be a high probability that shadowlands will have a range meta (like raids, great that this was fixed) and when all range specs besides hunters do magic damage, there will be an incentive to bring a Havoc rather than a WW. If you really want the monk debuff or ring of peace, you can just bring a Brewmaster who brings all of the monks defining benifits and doesn't clutter up the high incoming damage zone in melee range. Just to be clear, I don't hate on Demon Hunters, it's just like Nubkeks said: "What was Blizzard thinking? [...] Demon Hunter pretty much fills out the same roles". There is also an endless list of bugs like 'Earth, Wind and Fire' that have not been touched since pandaria. This spec definetly is not terrible, it's actually pretty incedible. But on the one hand it has not been looked at by Blizz since the Legion reworks and on the other hand has to compete with Havoc, that has been doing things better for 80% of the time in which the two specs sadly had to compete for raid or M+ spots due to their similar roles. Of course there is always the chance that WW does the kind of damage that gets them invited, but the last two expansions taught me that this is rather unlikely. Overall, of course I can play my WW in M+ with my friends and guildies and I can do this pretty successful and this is honestly the most fun I have in this game. But if you want to pug with a WW or do competetive raiding, abandon all hope, cause it seems like Blizzard again will ignore WW. And I think what drives a lot of long time WW players insane is that there will always be people who brush all these problems aside and say: "But looooook, it's soooo muuuuuch fuuuuuun!!!!1!!" Yes it is.
Causing wipes from accidentally pulling extra mobs in an M+....reminds me of that one time I tried to put Halo in my talents and forgot it also does damage and ended up pulling a whole room or area, even sometimes from the other side of a wall in another room and then those mobs and then they’d start running to me, and we wouldn’t even know since we didn’t see them, to murder us.
Same here, i hate how blizz makes them shit for raid. There's really nothing else that calls to me like monk does. Warlocks and stuff are just so basic.
Hey Nubkeks, I really enjoy your content but was a bit skeptical when clicking this, reading the title as a WW main. This isn't a knock on you but this does come across as another UA-camr/Streamer who says 'WW is fun, what's the problem?'. If you take even 2 minutes to read any of the WW or Monk feedback in general you can see that the class has been plagued with bugs, some bugs have been with us for a long time. It's funny to see UA-camrs/Streamers who say stuff like WW Monk is fun but none of them ever main a WW Monk. WW specifically, we love our spec, we of course love the playstyle hence why we stick with it, and admittedly (with good reason) we get a little salty when we are the only *CLASS* to not receive a reply for over 4 months into the Beta. Now there are some inaccurate parts in this video such as ToD hasn't been reworked, it's been reverted. Also, our defenses are used to increase dps, Ion Hazzikostas said that this was "degenerate gameplay". The main point of my post is to express there is a good reason for WWers to feel the way they do. It's like they've been forgotten about. Blizz blue post stated: "We’re making every effort to improve the reliability of this ability" This does not fill me with confidence: SEF or Storm Earth & Fire. Has been a nuisance for a long time a ... very long time. It originally started out as a Brewmaster ability. Come to think of it, I don't think our spec has any "Wind Walking" abilities anymore. Well, most people don't even realize we bring a passive speed boost. To be fair it is forgettable. There is a bug which we aren't 100% sure how it occurs, but it seems to happen during an influx of haste. What happens is: Even if you have (FoF) Fists of Fury on cd and (RSK) Rising Sun Kick on cd (WDP) Whirling Dragon Punch just doesn't work. If this was any of other game for example Street Fighter and Ryu could not pull off a Shoryuken 100% of the time when you did the input... you would call this ability broken and in that game, you'd call the character broken. WW & Brew only recently got their ability to either DW or use 2H weapons. They still haven't implemented a passive that Frost DK's received to balance out the use of 2H vs DW. The passive kind of existed already in the form of "Way of the Monk". There is a lot more to go into. Historically WW has performed poorly or in the middle of the pack. But at this moment in time, I still don't care about what the logs say. I'd just like my spec to fixed, solid, and reliable. Like I said, I am a fan of your work but had to step up with this one. Keep going strong!
Thanks for adding this, it gets forgotten most of the time. I really feel that, thats why i switched class eventhough ww is the most enjoyable dps i ever played. But as long as it cant compete throughout the expansion its worthless to play in a progress raiding guild.
Yeah, glad to see someone say it. WW is in a really bad place, and it looks like it'll be the same story as BFA. Scales poorly, identity has kind of been gutted, defensives being used as offensives even in a PVE environment was an awesome aspect of the class that is now gone, and are severely undertuned given that they don't scale well with content. Its literally the same shit as it was in BFA, and is constantly ignored. Honestly, I don't think they know what to do with the spec.
Yeah, but I’m still undecided. And that’s what sucks most about this system, you cannot just switch if you don’t like the ability. Faeline looks cool and interesting, but if you add groups in M+ with it it’s a nogo. And what about all the people who don’t watch videos about covenants on UA-cam...
Monk is good for sola PVE if you’re going to grind a character. They have self heals and escapes on every spec. It’s not easy, but monk is not extreme difficulty. It’s just involved and uses a lot of my brain. I mostly go back to priest though, cause it’s less mechanics intensive. The one thing I never got over is how monks don’t actually use their weapons in animations.
You probably get this question a lot, but what UI addons are you using? I tried SUF but I’d like to keep my original player frame like you did and only change the look of the party / raid frames.
Take this with a grain of salt, but it looks like he’s using the stock ui, only having adjusted the position of player/target frames to be where they are and having weakauras in between them. As far as the party frames, I’m not sure, but it looks similar to what you get with Vuhdo
Ventyr, as far as I can tell isnt the best for WW in PvP. Kyrian is better. Shorter CD ability. Great pot and soulbind abilities. Plus door of shadows is a waste.
WW is so fun, but, unfortunately, at the end of the day, only ONE will be brought to a raid. The meta states that they don't bring anything to the raid other than the melee buff, and that ONE monk that goes will be either BM or MW. And unfortunately, the meta is all most people will look at. Besides, none of covenants look really good for any spec.
As a WW main, I love my class and I don't see why so many ppl rant about it. It is a ton of fun, which is what a game is all about, plus it is totally viable for all non-hardcore content.
Jeah its fun, but very buggy and it cant compete on progress/hardcore content at all. There is a good comment on the top about the bugs. But as long as you dont wanr to compete on a high level its definetely a great spec/class.

But in years past, every expansion had many exciting class changes to look forward to, that's not the case anymore. I don't main a WW, but have played it enough to know the ins and outs. What they're doing to touch of death sounds horrible. It was one of the only cool mechanics that ww had to differentiate itself from other mongo melee specs
I mean at the end of the video he literally went on a 3 minute rant on how they won't be chosen for high end raiding and probably not to choose them if your goal is raiding.
I wish they'd make the Covenant abilities nerfed/buffed so all their cooldowns at 1 minute. Some abilities make me want them but 3 minutes is kind of annoying.
Short answer: Play tank spec, skip dd and heal spec. They are not good, buggy af and not finished (probably won't be finished even after launch especially MW).
@@WhallonJesse You’re not wrong, but the DH rotation is boring as hell. WW is so much more fun in its moment to moment gameplay, but it’s underwhelming in its performance.
The stuff in the middle is the "weak auras" addon. There are community made plugins for each class/spec that show your core rotation spells/cooldowns and relevant info. Highly recommended.

The reason windwalkers are unhappy is that they have a really bad track record of bugs never getting fixed and problems within the spec never looked at. Storm Earth and Fire is probably the most problematic ability in the game having serious interaction problems in basically every patch. Whirling Dragon Punch that has been their best talant in that row locks you in place for a few seconds which easily kills you when times wrong on a boss. WDP is also considered as movement which makes it impossible to use on fights like Wrathion Mythic. In Visions when you get that "Jump over fire puddle" affix WDP just sends you flying across the room, even that you didn't move. I also think DH, as you say, are a big problem because they are in many ways exactly the same but work better. Fist of fury is an inferior version of Eye beam. WDP is a worse blade dance, paralyze is a worse inprison. Leg sweep is a worse chaos nova. The list goes on =)
I watched only the WW part and I basically don't know what I'm talking about since I'm a noob, but I heard somewhere that WW has a major disadvantage because he scales into late game really poorly compared to other specs and I'm not sure if you mentioned it. Sorry if it's wrong :)
NA MAN IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE GAME JUST go for it, all clases are viable, unleast you are runing for first world, other wise just play monk which is a very fun class
It doesn’t scale well, it’s buggy af and lacks a true direction. But on the counterpart it’s globally fun to play and it looks cool. You should give it a try with the rework of the levelling in the pre-patch, it will be worth your time. At least to see how blizzard are taking care of their least played classes
They don't scale well with secondary stats but that's only an issue which manifests when you move between raid tiers (i.e. probably 6 months from launch) and only IF blizz don't tweak ability numbers to compensate. (Likewise specs that scale very well usually have their numbers nerfed e.g. shadow priest in bfa)
And what Blizzard have done for the class/spec until recently ? They had 4 months if not a year back to tweaks and fix all the shit they have done since the launch of legion (some bugs are still here, 4 years after). And you expect them to get everything done for the launch ? Yeah i’m pissed to see inspired classes getting nothing while demon hunter, rogue and mages are still blizzard’s favourites. Shaman still suck ass, same for hunter, same monks, same for druid except restau, it’s disheartening.
Play what you like. Unless you are pushing mythic raiding it won’t matter. Everything is viable in normal and heroic. Monk is always a welcome addition to any m+ group so don’t worry about any other content.

I’ve been a monk main for the last two xpacs, but I have zero faith that blizzard aren’t going to leave WW in the dumpster for Shadowlands and the community is going to write it off as a meme spec. I’m probably going to switch to DK, since all three of its specs are in a decent state.

Errol Trepanier you can just Right Click on the Enemy frame and then on „Move Frame/unlock frame“ or something and drag it in the middle. Same for your own Player frame. It’s already given by blizzard.
@@laffintyeu I have moved this frame before (boss fights) but it aklways moved back after what I noticed in the video was when he targeted the mob it started in that position just got home from work and was going to look at UI again to figure out what I am missing, thx though :)

hope you will redo all these videos after all the changes and nerf bats etc. with the delay and things changing daily, this will be out of date before SL goes live.
It means if you compare two classes/specs which have at the start the same ilvl, almost the same dmg, at the end (when you get more gear) the windwalker will be lower in dps even if both specs got the same " gear upgrade". In other words, if you get 100 agility the monk will gain (hypothetically) 100 dps overall when other specs will get 120 dps. It also mean that for the monk to stay competitive in the extension it need buff from blizzard. At least it was the case in legion and bfa. Personnaly, monk dps doesn't bring anything in raid that a monk tank can't bring meaning no one is really playing them so this statement is probably totally verified for shadow lands.
Brew is the only good spec lets be honest here and in a raid group Brew will probably be the only monk really wanted.. MW used to be my main but I'm rerolling for SL due to the lack of improvements to the class. It's not horrible don't get me wrong but why would you take it over any other healer in most situations.
you should reduce the abilities tooltip size and anchor it to a corner of the screen while you are talking about the ability, makes us viewers have to remember less things while watching the video, sometimes it's hard to remember exactly what you are talking about when the last time i read the description was 2-3 minutes ago

Makes ur Statue to start healing the target and also opens up other instant cast possibilities to pump it to full if required... As far as I know that's how it's ment to be played... Or else you are limiting it's potential and also underwhelming it's true potential..
Touch of death was one of the really unique abilities that stood out for ww. Now it's just a brain dead ability that can be used with little to no thought. None of these changes sound good. It's more of the same lack of imagination over at activision/blizzard. I appreciate the video, but there's no genuine criticism where it should be. My main class since MoP, feeling iffy about Shadowlands but will prob still play it, funnest class IMO. Love your content too man!!!

Play what you like. Unless you are pushing mythic raiding it won’t matter. Everything is viable in normal and heroic. Monk is always a welcome addition to any m+ group so don’t worry about any other content.

the biggest problem in early bfa (only played early) with mistweaver was mana sustain. has that changed? i struggled so hard it was depressing :(

I’ve been a monk main for the last two xpacs, but I have zero faith that blizzard aren’t going to leave WW in the dumpster for Shadowlands and the community is going to write it off as a meme spec. I’m probably going to switch to DK, since all three of its specs are in a decent state.
@Jay Jay Understandable. If you're planning to DPS at endgame, playing a class with more than one DPS spec is insurance again Blizzards shoddy balancing.

Errol Trepanier you can just Right Click on the Enemy frame and then on „Move Frame/unlock frame“ or something and drag it in the middle. Same for your own Player frame. It’s already given by blizzard.
@@laffintyeu I have moved this frame before (boss fights) but it aklways moved back after what I noticed in the video was when he targeted the mob it started in that position just got home from work and was going to look at UI again to figure out what I am missing, thx though :)

What exactly does it mean when people say a class doesn't scale well?
It means if you compare two classes/specs which have at the start the same ilvl, almost the same dmg, at the end (when you get more gear) the windwalker will be lower in dps even if both specs got the same " gear upgrade". In other words, if you get 100 agility the monk will gain (hypothetically) 100 dps overall when other specs will get 120 dps. It also mean that for the monk to stay competitive in the extension it need buff from blizzard. At least it was the case in legion and bfa. Personnaly, monk dps doesn't bring anything in raid that a monk tank can't bring meaning no one is really playing them so this statement is probably totally verified for shadow lands.

Brew is the only good spec lets be honest here and in a raid group Brew will probably be the only monk really wanted.. MW used to be my main but I'm rerolling for SL due to the lack of improvements to the class. It's not horrible don't get me wrong but why would you take it over any other healer in most situations.

you should reduce the abilities tooltip size and anchor it to a corner of the screen while you are talking about the ability, makes us viewers have to remember less things while watching the video, sometimes it's hard to remember exactly what you are talking about when the last time i read the description was 2-3 minutes ago

Not true u can tank raids/m+ and play WW pvp u don't even have to change gear for that.
Hmm, am I the only one wondering why he is casting every vivify.. rather than making it instant cast...
3 seconds to cast 1 vivify by incurring GCD on soothing mist then the gcd to cast vivify. Soothing mist is a trap.
@@Warraxbaa nope it's not.... it's almost instant cast just 2 button press and adding to it.. Makes ur Statue to start healing the target and also opens up other instant cast possibilities to pump it to full if required... As far as I know that's how it's ment to be played... Or else you are limiting it's potential and also underwhelming it's true potential..
Touch of death was one of the really unique abilities that stood out for ww. Now it's just a brain dead ability that can be used with little to no thought. None of these changes sound good. It's more of the same lack of imagination over at activision/blizzard. I appreciate the video, but there's no genuine criticism where it should be. You can polish a turd all you want, but in the end it's still a turd
