- First time ever in stereo!
Edited due to UA-cam time restrictions - full version here: vimeo.com/349240600
Music by Richard Adler, lyrics by Jerry Ross
Choreographed by Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon
Gwen's movements, like the spins she does at 4:02 were so precise and tight, when comparing them to the other dancers who were just technical and getting the job done. All her movements followed the music to a T. And all done so effortlessly and at times with sleight of hand. Just perfection.
Did you bother to ready the note I included with the clip?
Tab was not happy about doing a musical, but Jack Warner insisted so there would be a bankable star. Gwen and Fosse and Stanley Donen all knew how awkward he felt and they were very kind to Tab, who was very sweet with everyone. The movie turned out beautifully.
Bob Fosse’s choreography, Gwen Vernon’s moves and gorgeous Tab Hunter. What else could you possibly ask for? Ok, maybe Marlene Dietrich in Christian Dior on a Alfred Hitchcock picture signing Cole Porter (Stage Fright).
Next to goodbye old girl, you got to have heart, and those were the good old days this is my favorite song from the entire musical.
IT’S BACK ON! Even though Gwen’s solo has been edited out, I’m just glad that this video is back online for all to enjoy Fosse’s brilliant choreography and Gwen’s fluid dancing. Compare this to the recreation by Jane Krakowski and you’ll see why Gwen Verdon is considered the best dancer.

@@boinx1234 Thank you so much! Tab and Gwen are wonderful!
thank you for posting this! Gwen’s solo is so awesome.
@@boinx1234 THANK YOU!!! I've looked for this online on and off for years. Guess I must have taken a break! Couldn't be satisfied with the edited version. A thousand blessings on your head for posting this!
@@Victor1930 What did you think about watching it in stereo for the first time ever?
Now *this* is a song to get drunk to with someone.
Thank you for posting this! I've been looking for it for ages! The best filmed version of this song and dance.
My absolute favorite song sung by Gwen in this movie. She pulled this off where no one else could ever even hope to duplicate it. It was years (?) later when the movie Bell Book & Candle performed a somewhat similar sound/ ambiance number.
@@federicoarguello-gomez9485 On the button Frederico. Still, I was but a mere 8 year old when these were released but so addicted to them both by 14. between my mom and my growing up in the black & white TV era, I became a 'classic' movies buff, but not so hard core to go on cruises with other 'classic junkies'
Tab hunter was a seriously good actor, poor guy got a bad deal from the industry.
He didn't really get such a bad deal. He didn't take himself as seriously as he might have. Everyone liked him so the press gave him less hassle than they could have. He was never a great actor but certainly no worse than many from this era. He was gorgeous when he was young, no argument there!
@@jochenstossberg5427 yes. He did a good job in Damn Yankees!
Bob Fosse at his best
Fantabulous
Still watching in 2021
Lol this brings back memories
Magnificent! Poor Tab was so uncomfortable trying to dance. Fosse worked around his limitations. Such a cute number. "Whatever Lola Wants" next?
I was thinking the same thing about Tab! And that they gave him a break from the most difficult choreography by drumming on the chair. He wasn't too bad, though. Tab's singing voice is nice, but here he lacks projection and presence. That could have been resolved in part by having him sing toward the camera more, like Gwen does.
Here ya go! ua-cam.com/video/MCiMEd9-adI/v-deo.html
Gary Lowell T Their positions relative to the camera are irrelevant as, like in all movie musicals, they are both lip- syncing to a playback of themselves recorded days or even weeks earlier. The sound, including their vocal levels, has been mixed by an engineer- the singers have no further control over it once they are on the set; they're just miming.
I think Tab Hunter is just fine in this whole performance!
@@lemorab1 I think he was too, but he said himself how uncomfortable he was doing this.
We did this play in school
I love acting
Gwen Veedon is awesome, but there's one thing people don't give her credit for: her evil laugh. I hope it was utalized more in Chicago, but sadly, there's not that much footage of the show to know for sure.
Coool man... I can diggit! 😎
Tab's no dancer but damn he gives it all here.
This scene is kinda sexy for the Eisenhower era in the US at that time.
The 50s were a very sexy era
There as a strike on at the time this was made so they sang on hunter and version sank while performing they did so well the director kept it in
What does this mean? "they sang on hunter and version sank while performing"
@@boinx1234 I was wondering the same thing.
@@boinx1234 I'm guessing they mean that Hunter and Verdon actually sang while performing instead of miming to pre-recordings.
@@justwaiting5744 If so, that's wrong. This is definitely performed to playback.
Edward your talking through a hole in your head. All musical tracks are recorded before filming in all musicals - with very few exceptions. Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady and Streisand doing My Man in Funny Girl. If they sang live here, which is possible, the orchestral track was pre recorded.
Hello Eric, Billy Weber
Okay but why the heck do they spell moth in the beginning of the song 😂
Steve and Eydie please
