- Welcome to Atop the Fourth Wall, where bad comics burn. In this episode, Linkara looks at the book that ended two teams! ...badly!

I REALLY hate it when authors feel the need to make Dick, well, a dick. The main difference between Bruce and Dick is the fact that Dick more social and open then Bruce is. But for some reason in this and the series that came after, Outsiders, they made him as stone cold as Bruce usually is.
This isn't the last time Judd Winick has written Nightwing that way. In the Outsiders, Dick was always walking around with a scowl, and generally had a bad attitude. And came to blows with Roy after calling him a junkie, which was a pretty low blow.
SnowyWolborg
Ya. it's why I dropped Outsiders before it even finished it's first arch. Winick's take on Nightwing just felt wrong.
Thankfully Nightwing was one of the few characters written well in new 52 and i have high hopes he'll be good in Rebirth.
+Eamonn Deane
I'm not so sure about that. Wolfman actually did about a dozen issues of the Nightwing solo series during it's second to last year and the jury is out on if those where good.
I gave up on the book right before he came on because the previous writer was HORRIBLE
Personally I'd love to see Chuck Dixion write him again. He wrote the first 70 issues of the solo series and it was really good.
Eamonn Deane
Well he did do Young Justice, so ya i could see that. Though last i heard he was recovering from a stroke.
Eamonn Deane
Well i heard about it a few years ago, so for all i know he's already recovered.
When there's bad comics you know who to caaalll...
LINKARA!
When there's continuity errors he can see it aaalll!
LINKARA!
When you've just read Amazons Attack,
You can rest knowing he'll roast it back!
'Cause when you need reviewers to take them on...
Linkara, GO!
I love this.
With his cybermats and magic gun
LINKARA!
He’s got crappy comics on the run
LINKARA!
Young Justice was actually a really good series. It is really sad that it did not have a readership. The series had a really good balance of comedy and action with Peter David doing some great work.
Peter David is probably one of the most consistantly good Comic Book Writers who has worked for both Marvel And DC.
I love his Aquaman, Spiderman 2099 and Hulk runs.
"I'd like a McTerra with a side of Geoforce. Yes, Super Size."
Can I get a Cyburger and BB fries
Certainly Sir. Would you like a Kuba-Cola on the side?
hmm do you have any purple flurp?
Daniel Eggers Actually we do! And if you buy that, you get a free Ultra Lord action figure for the kids, with kung-fu grip!
+MrPlayer890 hmm.. And how do I get the crimson chin figure?
Funnily enough Judd Winick was able to get Young Justice’s line up correct. Considering his complete disregard for the Titans’ line up you would assume he would try to shove Secret or Arrowette into this book despite neither of them being apart of the team anymore. So Judd Winick was willing to do some research when it came to Young Justice so why not do the same for the Titans? Oh yeah, he just didn’t care 😒.
Not since HOLY TERROR have I ever seen Linkara rant so long about a comic cover! I love it!
But not since have we seen such rage
21:59 That's not the last time we're going to be hearing, "They just didn't care," are we?
All signs point to "nope!"
Not liking your chances.
Linkara just "did not care" repeatedly using that phrase.
+Jack Rose Reviews & Plays Oh hi
Jack Rose Reviews & Plays Didn't know you watched Linkara
funny how you fell in love with titans with a crossover about them going against their counterpart "seniors" and ruined the team with an event of a same manner but against their "juniors"
Irony. Horrible, horrible irony
One was a well-written, poignant example of how an event comic SHOULD be. This starts with a battle bikini Escher girl with so much pointless death and pain, it puts COUNTDOWN to shame.
David Spring
I personally find it either a pilot or spiritual prequel to COUNTDOWN.
@@daelen.cclark this came out before Countdown?
Makes me wonder what would happen if a Patron requested him to do Teen Titans Go (AKA Toddler Titans) in some way shape or form.
Not to be nitpicky, but the sword she was holding in the beginning of the comic might be a katana, a sword that's meant to be wielded with two hands. It gives the swordsman more force behind their strikes. Unfortunately, she didn't hold it right. Instead, she held it so the blade could disappear behind her blue hair that blends in the background, making it look like the blade is broken. "They just didn't care!" XD
AnimeFanDemon
By the way she's holding it and the way the hilt sticks out she is not holding it at an angle
@@peterstefancik4826 yeah, but it still clearly disappears behind her hair.
I think Linkara's mistake was because the katana's finger guard (or think that's what it's called) looks like another one of her actual gloved fingers, which is the same color/shade as said glove.
I just love how hilariously irate and pissed he gets at the ludicrous and unnatural female outfits and posses. Linkara fighting for realistic female super hero depiction. Love it. I've noticed that DC has taken note and the female hero's in their comics now wear flats instead of stripper heels.
Anyone who knowingly puts on stilletto heels to rescue people in a burning building or catch school buses from falling off bridges really are just begging to fail, aren’t they? It takes a lot of skill to even run in those things, forget supporting a skyscraper to prevent it’s collapse!
Nightwing: She's to unpredictable!
Thank you Nightwing for predicting that at the beginning of the fight.
DC screwed over the Titans more than once. Besides this debacle, they had a whole swath of time that the Titans couldnt be seriously involved in any crossover events - because they were reprinting Titan stories a year later, and didnt want any fans of that book getting all confused. Then there was "the new 52" which really screwed the team over ...
Some FUN* facts about this miniseries:
1) It is one of only TWO trades published by DC that collect the 1999 Titans series (The other being JLA/Titans)
2) At 55 pages, the ENTIRE MINI-SERIES IS NINE PAGES TOO SHORT TO QUALIFY FOR A GIANT-SIZED ISSUE!
3) The writer of this mini-series, Judd Winick, did not write the Teen Titans ongoing series that came out of it. Geoff Johns did.
4) He DID write the Outsiders, as in Batman and the Outsiders, ongoing series. It has nothing to do with any previous Outsiders series and used the "Why don't we become pro-active on crime" premise that was used oh so well for Cry For Justice.
Aren't we having FUN**

Peter David?
Like, "Atlantis Chronicles" and Hook-hand 90's Aquaman Peter David? 2016 run of Spider-Man 2099?
Shit, I should read Young Justice, Peter David's a great writer.
9:04 By Diehard's crouch, what the hell?! Okay, I'll believe a person can fly, breath underwater, breath in space, turn into a dog, face zombies, and face a alternate dimension version of themself, before I believe that a woman can do that!
I have been interested in comics since I was about 5, watching the 90's X-Men and Spider-Man animated shows. but I didn't get off my ass to read as much as I could and research anything.... until I first watched an episode of Linkara's nearly four years ago. and I thank him for it
being a writer is my dream, I write fanfictions and am currently writing my first book.
my dream is to work for Marvel as a writer/the head writer for Spider-Man, who is my favourite character.
my goal is to fix all the problems and all the bullshit that Spidey has dealt with over the years, such as One More Day and Sin's Past (the later being something I hope Linkara eventually reviews) but I won't just ignore them or retcon them. I will work to fix them using what they did. I will do it the right way
in doing this I hope to make Spider-Man a character that Linkara can enjoy, as well as finally giving Peter a break but also to show Linkara my appreciation for getting me to get off my ass and actually get into something I had enjoyed for years
***** personally I hate Dan Slott's run.
He introduced so many Mary-Sues, his events are formulaic to the point where I guessed 90% of the story before I even read or without reading any spoilers or information online, he seems to HATE writing Peter and hate him as a person and there are so many other things.
Here's hoping you reach your goal
If there is an extreme problem I have with Slott's run (mainly with Superior) it's how it started... mainly because of the timing. After reading Superior Spiderman in a trade, I really liked it, before looking through it again and noticing some flaws. Later on, I heard about how people were annoyed with Spider-Man's 700th book, and wondered what could have been so bad... and then realized that it was where Superior started. The way Marvel decided to celebrate one of their biggest characters publication history is to have him lose to a supervillain, have an arc to prove how he's been acting like an idiot and say he hasn't learned much for a big chunk of his life (which is true, but you don't want to tell people that, especially when the status quo is later restored), while having most characters not reacting properly to Otto's insane behavior as Peter (JJ Jameson suddenly being buddy-buddy with Spidey, and the Avengers not putting Spidey in a prison after he outright attacked him with little to no reason)
that's bad writing. it has plagued Peter for years because the writers for one stupid reason or another WANTS TO MAINTAIN THE STATUS QUO AND KEEP PETER FROM GROWING UP. THEY JUST DON'T CARE.
This is actually why I really like the Parker Industries stuff in the current Spider-Man books, though I admit the stories still have some occasional flaws, as it's finally a chance for Peter to apply himself and not hold himself back, as the ending to Superior Spider-Man set-up. Yes, Otto was the one who set up the company but it's Peter's inventions and the inventions of the people he's hired (most being personal friends of his and one even being a villain he gave a second chance to) that's keeping it going and making it a success.
And while there are of course the parallels to Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne to be made, it's still Peter Parker who is the head of the company and it's still Spider-Man who is using the company to help him be a better superhero.
Does it have its problems? Yeah, but I like that we're getting truly new stories with my favorite superhero and he's actually getting to do new things and grow and learn, instead of being trapped in a box like Marvel seems to want to keep him in.
I want Spider-Man to face Mephisto again and get back together with Mary Jane, but I also hope Parker Industries stays around for a long time to come.
The sexualization of Donna in this comic becomes even more troubling when you recall the editor of this book is a sexual harasser.
Chima Ihebuzor Seriously how is DC still in business?
Joshua Sepeda because it’s still has good comics
Is this the same editor whose actions led to Dan Didio firing every female writer, artist and editor at DC, including Gail Simmone, rather the the editor?
ULGROTHA that and likely wanted all guys to “appeal better to their demographic”, ya know, immature teens and brooders
@@joshuasepeda3289 same way how Nick is still in business even though they have some pedos working for them.
Here a drinking game: take a shot every time linkara puts a clip from Mystery Science Show Theater 3000 in one of his videos
JMtheSmartAlic Jesus you wanna make sure our livers are dead, don't you?
So... how many shots would that be here?
Kyle Stubbs a lot.
The timing on this coming out this week is funny, given that I had several people ask me who the heck Lilith was in Titans: Rebirth and I wound up ranting about this book, the loathsomeness of Judd Winick in general and how the thing that I hated most about this book was how the text outright says that nobody gave a damn about Lilith Clay dying because everyone was too busy mourning Donna Troy.
To answer your question, re: Did Judd WInick not read any Teen Titans since the SIlver Age? I can guarantee you that Winick never read ANY Teen Titans nor did he do any research into the characters' respective histories. He was just as bad writing Green Arrow and I could rant about that for a few hours but his Green Arrow run started with Winick deciding to break up Green Arrow and Black Canary even though the two hadn't officially become a couple again after Ollie's resurrection. He also decided to turn Slade Wilson into Green Arrow's arch enemy and had Slade screwing with Ollie just for the hell of it, despite Slade having always been portrayed as a detached professional who never did anything for free.
I love when you do the real in depth looks at comics you're personally passionate about. It's great when you're just quipping about plain old bad comics, but I think the show is at its best when you're taking on the comics that personally offend (or delight) you as a fan of something, because there's a lot of passion there. The March of the Titans, the ROMperspective, these are some of your best works. Your take apart of The Culling was excellent, too. New 52 Teen Titans has been such a disgusting waste, especially since they've completely flattened Tim Drake's personality, and he was my favorite Robin... good thing the Rebirth material looks promising. The Titans Hunt book was the right step forward. But of course, as this storyline proves, there were plenty of terrible TT books BEFORE the reboot.
Otaku Evolution I agree, that's why I believe he should do a complete review of civil war.
Joshua Sepeda
He’s done a “15 things wrong with” list of it if that‘s what you’re looking for.
@@daelen.cclark To be fair. While he has done reviews of things in the past that he said he'll never do (Hi One More Day and Maximum Carnage) I'm still fine with that list.
I think this series was a case of DC having a destination in mind and not really giving a shit about how they got there.
The Young Justice teams were going to become the core of the New Teen Titans team, Donna was going to be killed and then come back to play what was meant to be a big role and the older guys were going to join the Outsiders.
What comes of it all is far better than what starts it all.
Cassie dealing with Donna's death is done well in Teen Titans. People being pissed at Superman for not keeping track of his robots is done well in Teen Titans. Indigo has a good story line in outsiders and a great ending is the Outsiders/Teen Titans crossover.
Sadly this story was mostly a mess though it did have some good moments.
Time to see what's so infamous about this miniseries.
Why do I have the feeling this will really hurt?
Well, are you a fan of Donna?
.......Oh, nooooo.
+HeirofAzaran Oh... This is when it happens, isn't it? :(
Hope you're not a fan of Omen either :(
Oh it's gonna hurt, real bad.
I'm only 30 seconds in and I already want to rewatch the Technis Imperative review
Sound more fun than this comic.
Most comics are more fun then this one.
though we gotta give this comic some credit, it's not Holy Terror
Sasuke Uchiha Holy Terror is so amazingly bad it should be read. Graduation Day had a lot of peoples favorites characters in an infuriating comic which I think is way worse.
I like it when Linkara does multi-part series like this; I'd rather wait next week to see the next part then have to wait a whole year. Kind of wish he did it more often.
With some books I just really don't feel like covering them all together. Other times I want to get them all done with and out of the way. XD
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall
So 'Trouble' was one that you didn't mind stretching out but 'Graduation Day' was one that you wanted t get over and done with?
I'm very worried now.
+Crom Cthulhuson I guess it just depends on which particular kind of bad the series is. I think doing ASBAR in one go would've killed Linkara.
Pat Rex 11
True, I do like those 'previously on Atop the Fourth Wall' gags though.
Crom Cthulhuson Same
They Did Not Care: The Comic (Featuring Young Justice and the Titans)
"Apparently, Tempest can fly now..."
No, jump good.
10:14 I'd wake up screaming, too. That outfit... that *pose*... what a nightmare!
REFERENCE TO NIGHT VALE!! 17:43
( °□°) [howls at the infinite void]
Defense mode, attack mode, could not be killed this turn.
Quick, witty, a golden gem of a joke. Kudos Link
That Yu-Gi-Oh reference was wonderful
Here's something Linkara forgot "Sadly Superboy can't inflict piercing damage"
"A 'Battle-rina', if you will."
...I'll allow it.
"In the same vein as Cry for Justice". Ooh, this is going to be good, even coming late to the party.
It's rare to see a mainstream book fail and nearly every conceivable level. This book is right up there with Avengers VS X-Men.
Ah, Peter David. It was his almost 15 years run in the Incredible Hulk that got me into comic books. Hulk is still my favorite character until today thanks to him, and the political and society comments in his stories helped to shape my values.
What a shame that probably I will never see nothing of his brilliant contributions to the character in the big screen.
Eamonn Deane The same way about Wolverine's death.
It's not gonna stay long.
Eamonn Deane Becuase that's how it works with "big sells" characters.
Battle Ballerina...All I can envision is the episode of the original Chipmunks cartoon where a Ballerina scares off some bullies chasing Alvin by displaying his leg strength on what I think was a metal clothes rack.
That opening splash page, Donna has five fingers plus her thumb, six fingers.
I've become more invested in seeing how many different clips of MST3K's crew saying "They just didn't care!" Linkara can cram in this review, than in the actual plot of the comics.
The two recurring themes in Titan's material that I see: 1. Nightwing's behavior is mostly self-defeating: He refuses help for no good reason. 2. Roy Harper easily defeating bad-guys that took out entire teams. Are they like this in their respective solo material? Or is this just something about The Titans?
I freaking love the Teen Titans theme song. it's so good.
5:24 to 5:26 This cover came from a cover from the final issue of the first volume of the Teen Titans in the late 1970s, specifically the Fab Five Teen Titans, where they were fighting against their Justice League counterparts.
I saw the “One Month Ago” title, and I got ASBAR flashbacks. Anyone else?
21:51, in the Titan Magazines UK reprints of The Flash, the editors frequently forget to remove the "To Be Continued" signs, and often don't change boxes referring to the numbers of US editions which don't reflect the numbers of the UK editions. It's infuriating.
I love the title card implication that Boffo is Linkara's Teen Superteam counterpart.
Young Justice is one of my favorite comics EVER!
and thanks for reminding why I hate how Winick wrote Nightwing here and in Outsiders. For all the charges of the mantle being "Batman-Lite" being thrown around during the Chuck Dixon days of his own title, people failed to realize Winick's take following by Devin Grayson's worst Frank Miller Daredevil run impersonation (i.e. #86-100) & Dick's eventual time as Batman (albeit as a glorified babysitter to Damian) were exactly that
3:45, 11:43, 11:57, 13:15, 17:07, 20:21, 21:56
Very Important Messages.
0:01 Yeah yknow I love how at the beginning of some episodes he leaves you asking how bad was it. Lewis you are a comedic genius ^_^
19:50
Ah, but Linkara, even if the robot was in defense mode it would seem Superboy has the ability to inflict Piercing battle damage to her as such she'd still take damage from his attack
I laughed far too hard at the "Damn you Gingivitis!" joke.
I'd guess that Superboy and Cyborg were paired off for being the heavy hitting boys.
The first episode of AtopTheFourthWall I ever watched and still one of my favorites.
I've been both dreading and eagerly anticipating this day. Flense this wound, oh be-hatted one.
I remember my graduation day. It was a happy moment, a sense of accomplishment, a sign that my class and I were moving up in life and a great moment in my life overall.....
Yeah this looks nothing like that all. In fact, the hell did they call this graduation day if this had nothing to do with graduating? Oh right. They just didn't care.
shadowlink i guess “rocks fall and omen dies” was taken. Or not falsely marketable
i would have expected the Roundabout music to kick in at the To be continued... but that would have been more effort than what this comic seems to deserve
13:32 "Garth says to tell you he quits."
......Is that how his wife talks or did someone screw up the grammar check there?
She was talking on a Communication device to the Teen Titans, not to Garth.
"Battlerina" is going to be my new go-to Dark Age spoof character~
Usually, Roy Harper tend to be idiot or something bad happens with him on this types of books. It´s refreshing that writers didn’t decide to do something that on that book.
I love how even the paperback doesn't care.
The irony is that the only thing it cared about was consistently not caring at all.
"Because when I think of "Graduation", the first things that spring to mind are death and pain."
*laughs in Danganronpa fan*
I sincerely believe that the guy who wrote this comic just wanted to get this out of the way to get to the project he wanted to make.
Funny thing is, it see DC never notices how much fans love certain characters, until they either kill them, or ruin them.
Nice shout out to the SFDebris series. I really liked it. Works well as a documentarty to that time period
Young Justice was a great series. I got so giddy when they announced the TV show.
Weird how it’s only same in name only .
Mostly because it introduces the single best DC who NEVER GETS USED. 😡
Maybe there was a tear in reality and this is actually Dick Grayson, age 20ish, protégé of Crazy Steve.
These will likely appear when you make your "mistakes" video, but that sword? You can see the guard above her hand. And yes, many blades DO in fact have handles that long when they're meant to be used two handed, like a greatsword, or what that looks like it may be, a nodachi, aka a daikatana, which is not actually a word. Also, as for Cyborg's membership status... well, you're probably kicking yourself now, after the fact, as it says he's a non member and is there as an advisor. Whoops. Yeah, otherwise, great vid as always man, keep it up.
Still wish Cyborg wasn't a member of the Justice League (at least not a founding member)
Eamonn Deane Same
I didn't care for Judd Winick's work at this time, but the man is super sweet. Saw him at Wondercon. Asked for an autograph, he did a little drawing as well that I didn't even ask for and was incredibly nice.
Also, "tin butted", Empress? Seriously?
Ok, about that diminishing readers problem in the intro, they really should end series way before that happened. Maybe when it starts to dip a little too much they should announce "GREAT FINALE COMING" and I bet a lot of people who stopped reading will come back to see the end. Then the series can finish with a BANG and everyone would be more satisfied
Yeah the she's too unpredictable thing is because she only showed up a minute ago. They have no clue as to her powers origin or purpose and as such she's too unpredictable.
Glad you used a Joel-Era MST3k quote.
9:37 you know some weapons I can see having a handle that long, like the Nodachi or a large claymore, but that things looks like neither ((even if the blade wasn't broken) so Linkara's right that thing is that long for no damn reason
Talking about where that cover came from, I think it was just generic promotional art, as I can recall pieces of this cover (mostly a crop of this image containing Robin and Nightwing's faces) running in the back of a lot of DC books at the time to advertise the then-upcoming event.
18:43 anyone else notice Tempest t-posing behind Nightwing
I see Tempest has been playing Diddly Kong Racing. So he decided to pull a Wizpig.
I bet they paired off Superboy and Cyborg because they’re the male physical powerhouses.
DC in 2003: We're killing a female character off just in time for a new comic and a new cartoon!
Marvel in 2023: Bitch, please. We killed our teenage POC in our worst Amazing Spider-Man run in conjunction with her appearance in The Marvels. Plus on the 50th anniversary of Gwen Stacy's death and during AAPI month too!!"
DC in 2003: "Bruh!..."
Jesus, between this and refusing help to rebuild the Titans Tower
Nightwing was such a dick in these run...
And it's only going to get worse from here on out.
I see why you hate this. Man, this is random and stupid and badly drawn and just plain lazy.
Young Justice VS Teen Titans? I there was an ep like that in ttg, that crime against humanity.
Closest could (Possibly) be Let's Get Serious.
*Fun Fact:*
Indigo's real name is Brainiac 8!
"Damn you, gingivitis!"
LoL, MST3K quality riff, hilarious!
I love the "Young Justice" tv show, so I'd thought I'd put this on...aaand I remember why I don't read comics.
20:40 I would've had Arsenal say something like "maybe something more low-tech can tip the scales". Indicate that the robot is specifically built to fight off people with super powers, but would have more trouble with a 21st century gun. (A modern soldier's armor is made to resist bullets, but wouldn't be as good against a medevial knight)
... i mean, it wouldn't have been enough to save the series, by any means, but it could've helped this particular fight.
I've been waiting for this story to be uploaded.
I'll get the popcorn!!
GRADUATION DAY SUCKS
On OH so many levels. It also blows so at least it's full service crap.
Its good as a young Justice series but terrible as a teen titans series
Nuff said
11:29. I think we found the anti-Liefeld. Look at how long her feet are in the overhead shot.
Attack of the The Eye Creatures.
Impeccably brilliant attention to detail in the credits, Linkara. Lesser men would have "corrected" that.

I'm not familiar with the Young Justice comic. But I LOOOVE the Young Justice cartoon and continue to hope it's run on Netflix will help bring about a much needed third season
jeeze nightwing should prepare for late nights imagine if he had to become batman
Generally a slanted off title like that signifies a rusty sign to me, as if if it was animated it would’ve been straight but then broke off. Usually it’s about something old and busted or the aftermath of a failure.
So hey appropriate.
Great upload, Linkara. Look forward to seeing more. B-)
Thumbs up for the Nightvale reference!!
Gotta admit I missed the Yu-gi-oh vocabulary at 19:39 but now I can't stop hitting rewind on that part XD
7:01 I guess Donna ratted out a Magus Doppelganger from the Infinity War comic.
Y'know I was recently shocked that the robot girl from this comic showed up in CW Supergirl. Of all the things you could take from, you chose this?
Oh gods, Indigo. Poor Indigo. I can't remember if you've reviewed the TT/Outsiders crossover with what happened to her, but you really need to. This poor girl. They basically turned her in Outsiders into more or less Penny from RWBY. And then that mini cam along, and like Penny, they decided the best thing to do with her...was to trash her for shock value. Except they didn't do it with nearly as much skill or care as the CRWBY did!
I hope so. Because it was so stupid. I mean, Indigo's death itself wasn't that terrible. The scene packed a punch for me, and the little epitaph Outsiders issue they gave her afterwards hit even harder (probably because you don't see it that often in comics these days. The characters are considered so disposable today that to have other heroes, even fellow team members, memorialize them eulogize them just never happens anymore, so when we do have things like that, or the memorial issue in 52, or the funeral for Janet Van Dyn when she "died" in the Avengers books a few years back, it's just refreshing).
But everything surrounding it? OMG, was it dumb! But that's Judd Winnick for you. It's the same thing we saw with this story. Judd can write a character death beautifully (come on, you know that Donna's death itself was exactly how you want a hero to die, and that's fighting with everything they have until the bitter end), but to actually get there? It's always some of the dumbest, most convoluted shit you'll ever read!
I completely forgot about reading this book until halfway through the review. I don't even remember how it ends exactly, but I remember the bad taste it left in my mouth, ugh!
I didn't know Secret was a hero
I had to stop this video and search up the Teen Titans theme song.
Noob! XD
