    Fantastic demonstration!
    Summary:
    - More twang by picking close to the bridge rather than the neck (and vice versa).
    - Sharper tone by picking with the pick diagonally to the strings rather than parallel to the strings (and vice versa).
    - How hard you are picking. When the string hits the fret(s) the tone changes dramatically to a metallic sound.
    - You can use your fingers rather than a pick.

      yes, totally agree, this shows that the sound is in your hands and the more you pay attention to the way you play more you can alter the sound as you want.

    • @johnmacward
      @johnmacward 5 років тому

      Boozoo Chavis no, it’s a distinctly English word meaning more or less country sound guitar, a trebly bluesy sound, something kind of sharp. We’re also really flexible in English to the point where my guitarist uncle is always asking if I’m still twanging these days, in other words still playing guitar. The answer, Kev is YES !

  • @TruthSurge
    @TruthSurge 2 роки тому

    IOW, if you own a SUHR and can't get a good sound, then don't blame the gear. What he doesn't say is that it COULD be "the gear" because even a cheap guitar could be set up so badly that it doesn't even get in tune much less stay in tune and string action is also a factor. Ask yourself, why he isn't playing a Fender Squier instead. ?

      hahaha lmao thats different, hes talking about tone, the actual tone and nature of the sound of the strings, not additional fx ;) if you want these fx without any pedals; chorus: tune another string to almost the exact same tuning of the string you want to be affected by it. like a double stringed guitar! reverb: find a nice place, venue, hall, or underground parking lot, the sound resonating in certain acoustics could create a natural reberb. and delay... practise the same song with another guitsr player, and let him play the exact same thing in rhythm, but off beat :) think creative

    Me molesta un poco el traductor. No traduce el mensaje que Guthrie de manera literal si no que la traducción se realiza en base a la percepción del traductor de lo que entendió de las palabras de Guthrie. Puede que mi comentario esté de mas, pero creo que es un ejemplo de como 2 personas dan un mismo mensaje (Siendo Guthrie la fuente del mensaje, pero al mismo tiempo el tiene su manera o enfoque de exponer el tema) pero en mi parecer la percepción del traductor hace observaciones muy superficiales del mensaje como tal.

    • @giobelen
      @giobelen 6 років тому

      Well, it isn't actually impossible - I, for one, am curious to hear some thrash metal that a person playing a Fender deluxe came up with.
      Although I get what you guys are saying. What an artist creates is influenced by the tools that he or she uses, and certain sounds are only achievable by using certain setups. I guess what Guthrie is getting on to in this clip is how to maximize the setup that one currently has.

    • @JoanGradosNitus
      @JoanGradosNitus  6 років тому

      yes i think too, my opinion is just if you want play for example metal is better with one guitar thinking for that, humbuckers or active pickups, floy rose for soloist or baritone for play with drops like A or others. of course you can with all guitars but is not worthy totally. greetings!!

    • @giobelen
      @giobelen 6 років тому

      +JoseitoEdlVodao That's not to say it's impossible to write thrash using a "Fender knockoff", however. And know that I don't disagree with the point you're getting at - certain sounds are only achievable by using certain setups.
      edit: I found some pretty neat videos of music that wouldn't usually be heard to be played on certain guitars. Check out SNIPS' cover of Penny Arcade - Matteo Mancuso is a crazy good fusion player tastefully shredding on his SG, and he's fingerpicking to top it off. Also, this is a less serious video, but check out Kmac201's "Telecasters Can't Djent". John 5 is also known to be fond of playing Teles.
      I guess the point I'm getting at is that it's probably super beneficial to not rely too much on preconceived notions on what music should be played on a certain kind of guitar. On a more general note - musically speaking, it's probably good to just stop asking if one *should* do it, instead opting to ask *what if* one does it.

      Joan Grados oh well, that’s true, and I do enjoy to play flamenco 😎, so hands down. In Venezuela 🇻🇪 we have better arepas than the ones I’ve had in Colombia🇨🇴, you should try those better.
