how to get different sounds without spend money by Guthrie Govan

- this is great masterclass and govan talks a fiew minutes abouth sound and how you can get different sounds only change angle or pickups, tone control etc.
Guthrie could play a tennis racket and still sound incredible
hahaha true!!!
hahaha! that's absolutely correct, mate!
This is so true!!!
I'd never buy a guitar from him for that very reason..
No, just no. Stop this nonsense. You need a resonant body.
Fantastic demonstration!
Summary:
- More twang by picking close to the bridge rather than the neck (and vice versa).
- Sharper tone by picking with the pick diagonally to the strings rather than parallel to the strings (and vice versa).
- How hard you are picking. When the string hits the fret(s) the tone changes dramatically to a metallic sound.
- You can use your fingers rather than a pick.
yes, totally agree, this shows that the sound is in your hands and the more you pay attention to the way you play more you can alter the sound as you want.
+Joan Grados (Nitus) Yeah totally man. Incorporating those kinds of dynamics into your playing gives more contrast and dimension, which can make it sound infinitely more interesting.
yes and many people also always blame the gear when it does not sound like it wants when they would have to pay more attention to their playing
It's not rocket science.
Thanks mate, I cannot bear that Spanish translator.
Guthrie is very informative and often points out the little things that are often hardly noticed. That's why I always love his videos. And he plays amazing, for sure.
true, hes amazing guitar player but is amazing teacher too!! greetings!!
Good stuff, basic principles every guitarist should know for ANY genre. Thanks for posting.
agree!! greetings
Guthrie is the patron saint for all guitarists.
when need celebrate his birthday like a national fest hahaha
First time I have seen this addressed with such clarity.
GG : tone is in your hand
Suhr : lol
hahaha true!!!
Thanks for the upload! Such a nice guy and an awesome musician!
Such patience. The opposite of me. Respect to the translator too!
agree!! greetings from spain
Thanks a lot for sharing, this is really helpful!
thanks you for whatching!!!! greetings
Guthrie is pure genius....
I'd sell my kidney to go to this guys masterclass!
How can anyone dislike this? Guthrie is always informative.
Where was this filmed?
that's true but always are people ho have short mind and want the perfect video always. I filmed this in spain around 2010 approx.
That translater is a lie
😂😂😂
@@brunob4436 lmao no sir thats not what that means
@@crustynugget7398 How?
Saying "que es lo que" (which sounds like "ques lo que") is gramatically incorrect in the context in which it is used in the video.
@@brunob4436 I think I was confused by the lack of a comma, you said ""ques lo que..." kill him with fire" which at the time I assumed to mean that you interpreted ques lo que as "kill him with fire" but now I realize that you could've just been expressing disdain for his improper grammar. Y'know, like "ew he says ques lo que, we should kill him with fire."
He's good, I'm spanish
He's a great lad.
hes such a gent ...for example i was sellin rotoyellows but tried them again with headphones on and now im not sellin em ...i love SITs , DUNLOPs are yet to be discovered, DADDARIOS(9s) ill be puttin in my latest Yamaha Pacifica V112...happy new years to ya all Lingonheimo out

one tine bit of info: my three strats are currently tuned to f#s f#s and g

nope...every string down.. don t try that at home but it just shows how flexible the "stratocaster" is...thank you thank you thanky Leo Fender....Ling out
strato is one of teh best guitars ever. greetings!!
GREAT!!!
yeah govan is one of the best player today!!!
Did the translator miss the basic vocabulary for "TWANG" as I have always wondered if that was a technical term and whether or not it could even be translated as such?! What a great guitar player and an even better teacher - I always enjoy watching these videos and often wonder what it would be like to study with Guthrie for a week or three?
Boozoo Chavis no, it’s a distinctly English word meaning more or less country sound guitar, a trebly bluesy sound, something kind of sharp. We’re also really flexible in English to the point where my guitarist uncle is always asking if I’m still twanging these days, in other words still playing guitar. The answer, Kev is YES !
IOW, if you own a SUHR and can't get a good sound, then don't blame the gear. What he doesn't say is that it COULD be "the gear" because even a cheap guitar could be set up so badly that it doesn't even get in tune much less stay in tune and string action is also a factor. Ask yourself, why he isn't playing a Fender Squier instead. ?
You just have to spend every waking minute and spare time playing guitar and you will figure these things out yourself
Or watch this video.
@@cmhardin37 be nice if it was that easy lol
That's dangerous though, you can really hurt yourself practicing too much if you aren't careful enough
@@skatetodeath666 It pretty much is
"So, a guitar goes into a bar."
"Una gitarra entrada una casa de drinkos..."
"Sits down and orders a screwdriver..."
"Los assholo placidas a una chairos y ordero un tolero metallicos..."
Yeah, no, I don't actually have a punchline. I just want to punch translators. All of them.
Relax

I take it this is the absolute beginner tutorial
we all have something to learn about the basics of the guitar, it is what reinforces your technique and makes you improve even if you are more expert
its more than basic i feel ... guthrie is a master of control and expression ... there is much here for everyone... im not aware of your experience of guitar or guthrie .... i suspect you were wanting a little more ? lol ... but i will not do the normal youtube troll shit ... guthrie is perhaps the only guitarist i have seen gig with vai and made vai look nervous ... that;s enough for me.. have fun and learn !
totally agree!! i never see before a guitar player like guthrie...
I was literally watching people argue in a group about swapping pickups or changing guitars so that their sound is more 'versatile'. Most people don't realize that a lot of the sound transfers through your hands and is totally dependent on how you approach it.
I’ve never seen him go too deep into theory in any of his clinics or interviews. He tends to try not to teach guitar but teach how to learn guitar if that makes any sense
What is the Riff on 1:09 before "Day Tripper"?
i don't know but sounds good! sorry
no
ole, como te lo has currado hermano, that's my man!
genius player
is amazing!!
Hail Godvan!
The Mexican keeps interrupting Guthrie
anybody know what model suhr guthrie is playing here?
i think is an old suhr model around 2013 or older but i dont know exacltly sorry
It's a custom shop Suhr Modern. Mahogany body and neck with a pau ferro fretboard. Not sure about the pickups.
this is similar to the time I wasted college
i can see that guthrie is getting bodered by the translator..haha
hahahe true!!
Where is this? Northern Spain:.?
is in barcelona, do you know it?
I've been in Spain for a couple of years, but I think I could recognize the accent :)
i think the traductor ir from south of spain, like cadiz or other region
Your right. Northern Spain has a very noticeable tone in their accent, especially in Galicia.
I learned Spanish from living in the south. No classes
great!! south of spain is cool too!!! the people the food... the flamenco!!!!
where was this man?? spain?? mexico??
is Spain, Barcelona!!
@@JoanGradosNitus gracias tio, enorme guthrie
My guitar doesn't make sound.
why not?
@@JoanGradosNitus I need to make money lol
the translator lmao
true....
Blimey he made a mistake, he is human after all !!!
haha true!!! check my video of waves song he fail too but he solve it like a pro
no, his guitar caught a string under the fret. The guitar made a mistake, Guthrie is the opposite of mistake ahaha
That's all good but l'd like to see him get some chorus, delay, reverb,etc.etc. with his hands l understand that a lot of tone is in your hands but only to a certain extent. Be real Guthrie.
hahaha lmao thats different, hes talking about tone, the actual tone and nature of the sound of the strings, not additional fx ;) if you want these fx without any pedals; chorus: tune another string to almost the exact same tuning of the string you want to be affected by it. like a double stringed guitar! reverb: find a nice place, venue, hall, or underground parking lot, the sound resonating in certain acoustics could create a natural reberb. and delay... practise the same song with another guitsr player, and let him play the exact same thing in rhythm, but off beat :) think creative

😍😍❤❤💙
got to disagree
gear is really important
amp is about 70% of your tone/sound i can swear it it s true.
Guitar matters too.
sorry but gear is one of the most important thing too.
bet he s playing on a super amp with pedals and stuff so...:/
only few likes......credit goes to the translator
agree...but i can't do nothing sorry
Translator could have done better
agree!!
Can't you cut the foreign translation bits out. I'm English and I don't need it.
true and sorry, but here in spain we have very poor english, i understand when he speak but the most people in this masterclass not
Maybe other people need it? Maybe the people in the room in Spain? But hey you don't need it so it shouldn't exist
To a point, yes.
Once you crossover to heavier genres, it becomes a necessity sometimes for better gear
of course if you want to play thrash metal you can't with one fender deluxe. he talk in a general term
Well, it isn't actually impossible - I, for one, am curious to hear some thrash metal that a person playing a Fender deluxe came up with.
Although I get what you guys are saying. What an artist creates is influenced by the tools that he or she uses, and certain sounds are only achievable by using certain setups. I guess what Guthrie is getting on to in this clip is how to maximize the setup that one currently has.
yes i think too, my opinion is just if you want play for example metal is better with one guitar thinking for that, humbuckers or active pickups, floy rose for soloist or baritone for play with drops like A or others. of course you can with all guitars but is not worthy totally. greetings!!
Gio Belen What the hell did Kirk Hammer played in One, the epitome of Thrash if not a fender knockoff.
+JoseitoEdlVodao That's not to say it's impossible to write thrash using a "Fender knockoff", however. And know that I don't disagree with the point you're getting at - certain sounds are only achievable by using certain setups.
edit: I found some pretty neat videos of music that wouldn't usually be heard to be played on certain guitars. Check out SNIPS' cover of Penny Arcade - Matteo Mancuso is a crazy good fusion player tastefully shredding on his SG, and he's fingerpicking to top it off. Also, this is a less serious video, but check out Kmac201's "Telecasters Can't Djent". John 5 is also known to be fond of playing Teles.
I guess the point I'm getting at is that it's probably super beneficial to not rely too much on preconceived notions on what music should be played on a certain kind of guitar. On a more general note - musically speaking, it's probably good to just stop asking if one *should* do it, instead opting to ask *what if* one does it.
Oooogh!! the translator is boring
true hahaha but here in spain a lot of people have a poor english.
These guys need to learn English before learning guitar
that traductor.. totally agree hahaha
Was it me or the translator is really annoying
yes sorry for that, here is spain most people have very poor english...
the translator talks too much BS, GTFO Spain.
here in Spain we have a poor english i know, but not all are the same..and we have Flamenco hahaha
Joan Grados oh well, that’s true, and I do enjoy to play flamenco 😎, so hands down. In Venezuela 🇻🇪 we have better arepas than the ones I’ve had in Colombia🇨🇴, you should try those better.
