Really wish they didn’t add so much unnecessary drama into the film. Here’s some of things wrong with it; there wasn’t a storm coming, the daughter didn’t have an allergic reaction (she just was a little sick from flying and the situation), his wife wasn’t able to get the pilot out of his seat, and the friend in Connecticut didn’t build a “simulator” (I’m not sure how building what they did in the movie would have helped). Listening to the actual ATC communications is more emotional than the actual movie
The story of Doug White flying that King Air is the reason I am a commercial pilot today. Thank you, Doug.

On A Wing and A Prayer is a faith-based movie starring Dennis Quaid and Heather Graham. It's un-apologetically God-affirming, and it's really inspiring. I was so freaking choked up watching this, and it leaves you soaring. I don't care what the film critics say. Most of them have a bias against faith-based movies, and it didn't surprise me that so few reviewed it positively. Ignore them.
Pat, they are not relevant. Which is a part of the problem in that they think that they are.
The reviews that count are from all of the positive, life changing comments on FB and other media from the millions that have actually watched the film.
Many, more than once.
It was not #1 on Amazon for nothing.
I didn't realise this was a faith based movie. I saw the negative reviews but I was intrigued by the title. I'll give it a go
Some people just don't enjoy religious movies. Don't take it personally.
@@cornholius A lot of faith based movies are pretty poor and heavy handed. However I've noticed that even with the good ones, a lot of critics will slate them and give them a bad review anyway. Its more than the quality of the movie thats being assessed, there are a lot of people who simply hate God and the message of the Gospel.
I felt the same watching this...well said.

Yeah Heather Graham from Boogie Nights Porno to On a Wing and a Prayer.

I am watching this movie right now, great cast and exciting story. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Exelaint movie 👍👍👍👍
Started watching this movie after Doug’s excellent interview but as soon as the deceased pilot flopped forward with the wife’s grunting help and the plane, on auto pilot, nose dived through the clouds, I was done. Wife kept watching and very much enjoyed it, I couldn’t knowing the real story.
Beautiful King Air 200! Fly one everyday!
This movie was beautiful, and I felt the emotions from start to finish. Just divine and inspiring in so many ways! ❤
Loved this movie! Highly recommend!
Dennis quaid one of the bests
I almost got in a crash with Quaid! Not in a plane, luckily -- we both took part in a live reenactment of The Band's "The Last Waltz" at SXSW a number of years ago and I was to go on right after him. I was running late and bolted into the venue just as he was leaving the stage and missed colliding into him by mere inches!
I just want to tell you both: good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Absolutely loved this movie! ❤
I'm here for it. I've been waiting for some good wholesome movies I can watch.
They showin' this one in churches all over the country, I'm told.
Great movie about a true story! It made me cry. It's about having faith. You may lose your faith in God after going through hard times, but everything happens for a reason. The power of a prayer is very strong. You just have to believe.
Of course the critics have to smash anything that has faith based themes. Is it schmaltzy, yes, is is a true story with a great ending, yes. The godless critics have to smash it so they can be part of the cool crowd. They were losers in HS and now have a pen to bash anything good.
An excellent movie!
It will be good. Dennis Quad makes anything
A fun fact about that cliche song: "Spirit in the Sky" makes several religious references to Jesus, although the singer/songwriter Norman Greenbaum himself is Jewish. In a 2006 interview with The New York Times, Greenbaum told a reporter he was inspired to write the song after watching Porter Wagoner singing a gospel song on TV. Greenbaum said: "I thought, 'Yeah, I could do that,' knowing nothing about gospel music, so I sat down and wrote my own gospel song. It came easy. I wrote the words in 15 minutes. And thus, a one hit wonder was born.
They aren’t really references, he flat out says “you gotta have a friend in Jesus”
@@Yapper7781 doesn't mean he believes it. Just as the writers of some of the most popular Christmas songs were Jewish, yet didn't celebrate the holiday.
@ @chefevan2884
I’m an atheist and I believe in Jesus’s teachings. Most of them are universal.
If more Christians were like Jesus the world would definitely be a better place.
Too bad for the Old Testament and the Pauline Epistles.
I wonder if those religious chuds playing this song at their rallies know this fact 🤣

Great movie. Dennis Quaid was excellent he looked terrifying. Excellent story and everyone should see this.❤
Just watched this movie. It was a very good movie. Praise God he really does work in mysterious ways.
Maybe you should listen to the actual traffic control call of the incident. Then you'll realize this movie is very very very loosely based on the true story. Religion isn't even mentioned during the actual event.
Awesome, amazing and inspiring movie! So happy we watched it! Highly recommend ❤
I can't be the only one thinking he looks like harrison ford.
I think he is the dad from Parent Trap with Lindsey Lohan
Denis Quaid ~ innerspace.
Somewhere Harrison Ford just died a little 🤣

Wonderful movie about the importance of faith and prayer. It reminded me how closely related faith and prayer are and that "for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28).
Can't wait to watch! Love that it's based on a true story that actually happened on an Easter Sunday!!

Heather Graham!
Kari went above and beyond! Doug had the faith and courage to remain calm but if Kari never got involved with his experience they never would’ve made it. His reassurance and ability to relate to them from personal experiences with the same type of situation.

Really good movie, had my eyes glued to the screen the entire time and I cried at the end 😭❤️ so glad for this movie. Never lose your faith ❤️ Amen
The same song, " Spirit in the Sky", was played midway through the trailer for Dennis' Flight of the Phoenix (2004). He's got this!

Dennis Quaid!! Definitely a dying-breed of actor in Hollywoke land. If ya like this movie you'll appreciate watching "Blue Miracle." Can't wait for the movie "Reagan," to make the Big-Screen.
Quaid said in Reagan, the challenge was he had to portray him as a 30 yr old actor, 45 yr old governor, 75 year old Pres. and in upper 80's after that.
The movie was amazing
Heather Graham did a fine job in this role. Probably her best.
😂😂😂😂😂
When I was younger, I read a story on Reader's Digest entitled "On a Wing & a Prayer". It talked about a soldier & his war experience & solitude coupled by his will to survive & live, with the help of kind strangers. That's still my fave RD story (it was an 80's published).
This story was also in RD, if you can find an October 2009 issue.

All the people who helped this competent man in an emergency situation land the plane but, yeah, it was a "miracle" everything turned out, not the people who knew what they were doing. 🙄

@@gracedaniels411 🙄 Competence, skill, training, perserverance, attention to detail, being able to follow directions, bravery, but, no, it was really a "miracle" he landed safely. 🙄 People looking for divine intervention or otherworldly reasons for things that are perfectly explainable without "supernatural" influence never cease to amaze me.🙄

@@shirleywilliams-hall9437 The movie has nearly nothing to do with what really happened its over dramatized. The wife never sat in the front seat with him, the dead pilot stayed strapped in the entire flight, they just wanted to add some girl power to the movie... Can't have a man handle the situation alone can we.
So we saw the beginning and the end and then they proceeded to show us the middle x.x....Well I guess I'll still watch it to support these folks as they aren't in a lot but have shown great talent in their past.

They definitely added a lot of action to a true story that was already full of it.
I noticed the Hollywood embellishments right away. Wife not in front. The pilot stayed in the seat. No dramatic plunge in altitude. No weather. 😂. Listening to Doug was amazing enough for me.

I remember when this happened and ATC had to talk me down from 10,000 feet. If that Kindergarten hadn't broken our descent, who knows how many of us might have been unrecognizable at the autopsy.

Oh man, I just leared about the real story in full detail. It is fascinating and nervewrecking!
Now this looks like Hollywood took the story and made a totally unrealistic freak show out of it. Shocking and sad...

Dennis Quaid, Heather Graham...what's not to like about this film?
The plot?
I'm sorry but from the advert alone it is clear the writers and financiers didnt even listen to the ATC recordings. It is a good story but would have done well to reproduce it instead of Holloywoodifying it.
Can't wait to see this Brian! So proud of your work!

Watched this with my family and we were actually trying so hard to force your message you completely bypassed the simple necessity of putting something of quality together.
I may have to take my children to the optometrist in order to adjust their eyes from rolling in the back of their heads so many times throughout the film.
and you might need to check that attitude
🤣
Looking forward to this
I thought it was off to a great start and it touched on some common issues, like you'll almost never open that luggage netting, the shoulder harness is holding the dead pilot upright (unless it's the kind that gives until it's cued to stay taut) and the wavy student pilot. We all saw that coming in the opening scene: student pilot. I haven't seen a fam flight allowing the first-timer to land the plane though. You learn to have control over the plane first, and that takes a few flights. And why do Americans often think the best way to fly a plane is to let go of everything? Maybe because he was overcontrolling and at least the plane would land straight (even if it rolled right off the runway..because he had a crosswind and you have to keep holding that in). But it was like the movie ran out of things to talk about flying a plane, which was odd because there's too much to talk about when flying a plane. And then it just wasted time in melodrama and subcharacters overacting. The kids idea was good, until the friend came over and they both forgot how to act. And the movie as a whole forgot the word subtle. By cutting to a million different secondary characters they tried to imitate the amazing scene in The Big Blue where the diver went the deepest and every dolphin within a 50 mile radius jumped into the air...but with much less success and much more melodrama.
They could have filled in time with the student pilot going over pertinent flying issues, items Doug wanted to know in the air and the girl was learning on the ground out of communication range. That would have been informative and ironic. Or perhaps cut back to the girlfriend when she was being instructed on sim, and then show Doug not doing it as he needed. The young girl could have been reading, the older girlfriend could have been doing the item, and Doug could have been lost. And the audience would be like "Doug! Just do what she's doing!" But Doug would not know, and ATC would not be telling him anything. Yes, few ATC actually fly aircraft, and even fewer are flight instructors. In short, we saw lots of books but the movie showed very little information. It's as if the writers didn't know anything about flying and didn't care to teach the audience. In a world which is in need of pilots this movie could have sparked the next generation of dreamers. Ah well, maybe next year.
Amen. Praise Jesus. Lord almighty.
And any one have any good reviews after watch this ?
Moral of this story - take a second pilot
seems Netflix and Amazon cut down the budget spending on their streaming contents quite a lot, you can tell from the trailers😬
luv Dennis Quaid
The real story is quite, touching, specially what happened after Doug landed, that's where the movie should have started, faith based or not.
Wdym? He landed and just needed help shutting off the engines and they tried to save the pilot but he was already dead... What else happened?
Unless you're talking about way after when he went on to get his pilot license.
Yeah, this trailer is typical Hollywood, they made his wife the Co-Pilot got him flying thru Storms.
The real life story was legit enough
