AWWWRIGHT!!
AR Rahman is a Oscar winning Composer/producer . Slumdog Millionaire is his international well known composition for which he received 2-Oscars in 2009 . His works are really exceptional . Hope you check more of his works soon . Cheers!
yes everyone knows Rahman by this point
He also won Grammy
Slumdog millionaire is definitely not his best work..... Pitty they cant enjoy his real magic...
@@amritrajpr Mausam and Escape and O saya are one of the best compositions he's worked on. He deserved the oscar for those two.
@@wolverineiscool7161 How many Oscar winning music directors do you know?
This performance is quite good. But the original version is a masterpiece - combination of the greatest music director (A. R. Rahman) and the greatest singer (Lata Mangeshkar) from India. You'll be mesmerized.
A. R. Rahman is great but not greatest composer in Indian music history.
@@shassaha3922 that's true. But being Great is a huge feat. 🙏 He has embraced music completely and that's why we all connect to his music, no matter what language.
@@dss6838 agreed.
@@shassaha3922 that's purely subjective. like many won't consider Lata Mangeshkar as the greatest Indian singer too. Whatever I've heard from our music composers over the years, ARR is standout best among them imo.
@@ruinedstaar first of all original version of this song is masterpiece. And Lataji, unquestionable. As composer A. R. Is great but not greatest in Indian music history. But you can ignore my 2 paisa opinion.😊
FYI, the pianist is Annette Philip, founder and director of the Berklee Indian Ensemble.
AR Rahman is the person who mixes western and eastern to give best music in world
He is greatest of all time in world
Thomas Newman
Johan Johanson
John Williams
Alan Silvestri
Max Ritcher....
Try these composers as well.
@@vighneshpillai7996 AR RAHMAN composes melody in such a way that western composers can't
Said by Andrew lloyd Webber
With all due respect to all musicans you mentioned
@@yashghoderao46 Well agree to disagree...but I'll prefer the above mentioned composers over Rahman even though I love his work.
@@yashghoderao46 don't be stupid. I'll leave it there. Rahman is a minion compared to some of the composers mentioned in the comments. And he plagiarized a lot of his sounds from indie pop and mainstream pop. He's not even in the top 1000.
@@vighneshpillai7996 add Ennio Morricone to the list.
Man... This Song gives me Goosebumps every time I listen to it.
I listen to it 2-3 times a week
There is Indian folk, Indian Classical, some Indo-western fusion, some Jazz - and singing in two languages : Hindi (a North Indian one) and Malayalam (a South Indian language) !!!!! Go figure!!! 😀😄
ahh man..! You discovered AR Rahman in 2021..! anyways better late than never..!
This is one of the numberous compositions by ARR.. Enjoy his music...
That ending is a sound so close to a "home" feeling in India. You're analysis is spot on. As a Indian American, the entire composition to me models the essence of growing up with two cultures. Hearing that ending and seeing you get it too was so wonderful!
wOw!
The original track was sung by the late Legendary Lata Mangeshkar ji. She was 68 years old when she sang this lyrical, musical masterpiece. Maniratnam, Lata Ji, A R Rehman - that's the A Team
A R Rahman is a great Indian music director ever . He is incredible.only Oscar winner music director in India.
Ar Rehman is light years far ahead than hanzimmer.he redefined indian music in 1992 with the greatest album of all tym Roja
He is himself , dont compare him , he is not like somebody , he is A R Rahman
Sorry he is the unique Indian A.R. Rehman.......your comment is not a compliment.....he is in a league of his own.
@@nikhilharidas87 I know .he is unique. But I was just giving a small idea of how great he is . That's y I mentioned Hans Zimmer. So that he can get a small idea about ar Rahman
@@nithinsankarpnithinsankarp3603 there are many ways you could have done that without making A.R.Rehman an Indian Hans Zimmer......e.g. 1) Same league as Hans Zimmer maybe to be respectful to the other genius as well. We don't have to under sell our geniuses for the sake of understanding of foreign audiences
Now this... Is called... Reaction of the highest order...!!!
The very essence of the word reaction is shown through in this video.🔥❤️👍
That ended with a " Sarod" ( Generally having 6 Main melodic strings+ 4 others! ) not a " Sitar". Sorry couldn't contain myself - that was a fantastic analysis/ reaction. Thanks.
ARR scored one western movie and won Oscar… He’s pure talented and please listen to his 90 songs… it takes me deeper myself all of his composition…
That last string instrument was actually 'Sarod'.
One Minute Silence for him...since he found our Mozart after so much decades.....
Maybe stop comparing everyone to western artists?
@@honeyboiii We are not comparing anyone to anybody....maybe you felt like that...peace bro!
don't push it
@@honeyboiii good point, inferiority complex is the cause and comparing everything to west, from institution to cities( ie. Manchester of India, Silicon Valley of india etc), regions etc ..naming building complex on American cities and towns, every school has international and global at the end etc etc.
I like to think that most of our music (from South Asia) is cyclical (similar to our ancient philosophy). The beginning is gentle, with the music evolving like opening flower petals one by one, growing as it evolves, blossoming to full potential and then towards the end slowly reaches a peaceful almost meditative conclusion, with enough of the smell of the flowers lingering in your soul for the longest time. Both the beginning and end are gentle blends into the eternal flow of the universe.
So well observed and explained.Indian classical finds beautiful ways to harmonize that flow.
South asia is a new term we don't call it south asia more like " indian subcontinent "
@@JUPITER69966 It is not a subcontinent.
Asia joins Europe. You don't call either as subcontinent.. Rather as continent. Why. Thay are different. The land is different Culture is different. The civilisational
ethos different. The European East of Urals are Caucasisn. And west of urals are Chinese - Korean -Japanese, Mongols, Turkic.
Former Abrahamic, divisive,, and aggressive latter were essentially unitary, agnostic - atheistic, Tribal - Clannish, Buddhist - Confucian. This meant Asian Continent. These are temperature and Tundra land extending to arctic ocean
However there is an land South of Himalayas and an extension till Caspian sea also and any thing below is indian continent. Not a that are flush with water draining into Indian ocean. The culture, is very different. The people who occupy the land essentially an indic civilisation.
The coastal Chinese are mixture of Indic Buddists and confucian people.
Most of your music is very vibrant and soothing to the ears and your underground artists is amazing like Cheb I Sabbah, Spek, Asain Dub Foundation and State of Bengal etc. The instruments are also different and noteworthy to play mainly the the tabla, but that is a lot of people who likes the tabla lol.
Ar rehman songs will literally takes the listener to a different dimension. He is lyk the god of music..
God🤔
@@just4015 yes

I would strongly recommend you explore the discography of A R Rahman. His unmatched genius in weaving harmoniously intricate and complex genre-hopping melodies has been demonstrated in each and every of his compositions, consistently over the last 30 years…
A musicologist like you, with your knowledge and analytical approach would be better placed to decipher the magic he has mesmerised us constantly with…Treats the west have so missed… worth every bit of your time..every song a study in mastery…
Beautifully expressed reactions, befits the composition, thank you
The Indian music arises from the soul... The nadis...of our body... 72 nadis.... And 72 ragas... Coming out of the Nava rasa... The nine rasas... Emotions..... Which is again expressed through the mudras in the classical dance forms... The classical music in India is deep and reaches into the soul 🙏
The vocalist have learnt Indian Classical music, which pulls at the heart strings.
He literally enjoy music. Made my day ❤️
Now that was the most fantastic reaction to an absolutely fantastic piece by the one and only fantastic composer, AR RAHMAN.
Hello! Another wonderful video, amazing music, love the way you react and explain the songs/musics.
After listening to this music, i feel so relaxed, i wont need the pill to sleep.
Ar rahman is genius ..just check out his songs.
Lol thanks genius
Another gem! And as always, loved your reaction and commentary 🎶
Indian carnatic form of music has a lot of similarities with jaaz(raag) sometimes more progressive than jaaz. Percussion players were brilliant especially the bassist. Special mention for harshita krishnan in the antara section (trying to squeeze the lower notes). Anitta Philip is sometimes spotted with AR during live gigs.
This is just a one piece of gem fro him...there are other master pieces which blow our minds instantly. He has started his music composition since 1992 officially. His first album called "Roja" itself is the master piece..listen to those songs!
You got that perfectly.. just can't type much. You got everything what this ensemble was all about.
There is a lot to learn in your observation/evaluation of this particular piece - considering this is a very popular piece by A.R. Rahman and rearranged by Annette Phillip of Berklee Indian Ensemble. Its also interesting to know how one composer views the work of another.
An unbelievable performance all-around. From the composer to the musicians to the arrangement and also the engineers. Wow!
Aesthetically beautiful reaction to one of the most beautiful songs of A.R. REHMAN
Music listened through soul, feelings... excellent 🙏🙏
Berkeley took something that was good and took it to a level that was way better than the original in all aspects. I don’t have the technical words and phrases but I felt the same about the nuances, interludes and jeyaraman’s flawless dovetailing of the vocal. That sound signature will broach most souls 😊
I really appriciate your respect and love towards this song and the cultural richness related to it. Its only a drop from an ocean. Please listen to more classical and traditional songs with or without modern composition to enjoy more and more of such sweetness.
Indian music is all time greatest... And its cultural classical singing is far beyond any modern music... It's beautiful because we believe in nature.. And somehow u will find nature in this video, if u listen by heart
There is no unified "indian music". It varies from region to region.
Classical southern music (karnatic music) is not same as north indian music.
@@dominicj7977 as a student of both these schools of music, there is a lot more similarly between the two than their differences. Folk music, of course changes from region to region
All country's and community's have great music...we have to listen them first. Moreover this composition is contemporary Indian music inspired by western and other regions music...u can see guitar, piano, drums etc. which are not classical instruments. Indian classical ((Hindustani and Carnatic music) is Indian music . Its fusion.
@@jyothsnavijayendra637 Any music between two random places in the world are probably more similar than they are different
Also what is the NIndian equivalent of s indian karnatic music
@@dominicj7977 it's called Hindustani classical. Indian classical music comprises of both of these, so yes Indian music in a way.
When it is ARR, there is a twist in each turn.
DUDE!! I don’t know that much about music to understand the nuances or the breakdown (the decomposing, as you say) but as a South Indian, I am moved in my soul, especially the ending! A YT recommendation which I truly enjoyed. Thanks and God bless.
Thank you for your detailed explanation of this song. Thank You Sir!
Thank you "Old Composer". Even though I had heard this song too many times, you had shown me how to dissect and listen and enjoy each and every piece and has a whole together.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. Great explanation, i mean for a person who is thousands of miles away probably not so much aware of Indian music, great man, really appreciate it. Thank you so much!
This was a beautiful interpretation of the composition.

Thank you so much for doing this amazing decomposing reaction video for this song. The breakdown and analysis was just superb. I enjoyed thoroughly. And you are really such a wonderful person 😀. PS - the last instrument was a 'Sarod', it's an Indian Classical Instrument.
Love the way you enjoy the music ♥️♥️
AR Rahman is a legend
EDM can never beat the symphony of instruments...and the use of dholak is a trademark of old AR Rahman songs
I loved the intensity with which you listened, your compete absorption into it, the effect it created on you was visually very pleasing. The subtle expressions on your face looked wonderful✨😍
P. S. It is not a sitar, it's called sarod 🥰
Heard this performance from Berklee several times but listening it with your expert comments and explanations has broadened my vision on minute rhythmic sounds from different instruments. I thoroughly enjoyed this trip with you.

The composer is a legend and two times Oscars winner. This is not the original composition. You should react to some of his original composition. Recommended ones are: Roja, Dil Se, Bombay, Taal, Rangeela, Saathiya, Guru l, Tamasha etc.
Pls add some movies too
I literally liked your reaction for this song❣️
3:48 great catch on the delay, Rehman absolutely LOVES to play around with tempo in his compositions, throughout his entire career. A vocal track that's slightly off beat, an instrumental that catches you off guard, he likes to surprise the audience and it's really a lesson in effective bending of the rules.
Enjoyed watching this composition of Rehman with your observations and emotions. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The last instrument is sarod. One of the percussion instruments is tabla.
hi there, loved watching your reaction. I seems like you were really were blown away and I feel like you got a bit emotional with the music you heard ( if I'm right that is ), it shows music knows no boundaries, stay safe, love and peace :-)

When she says dekhte h tan mera with that cute smile😍❤️
Man if you're breaking the composition down this deep, I wonder why didn't you go through other A R rahman compositions.. Music albums like Dil Se re, Ghajini, Lagaan, Swadesh, Taal, Roza and many more.. ohh god.. those are jaw dropping in composition, feel, uniqueness.. ahh A R Rahman is called a melody king!
(Also, this song is composed by A R Rahman but this version is remade by these guys. So the original is original)
Indian music is all about emotion.. it'll touch your soul..just close your eyes
Congrats! Adding to my permanent playlist
This is what is like to call a "watered down whisky" version, the original is like an old Tennessee bourbon, this one is just blaaaah.
No… the original is basic. Indians may like it, but it offers nothing new. This version is not perfect but mixes a calming Indian classical music which is universally enjoyed by foreigners. The original is a Bollywood song…
@mimigirl that’s the state of Indian music. Bollywood has killed off gems in the Indian music industry. Lata may have sang well, but her vocal tones did not fit most songs. Way too high pitched
@@ReeceDhillon The vocalist on this particular recording was terrible. Lata was perfect for this song.
@@Bulbous_Beluga Latas voice was too high pitched and screechy. There’s a reason why no one sings like that anymore… because it’s not pleasant to listen to.
@@ReeceDhillon omg I was the only one who didn't like that style.
Beautiful
I love that his attention to the video is very minimal. To look away and concentrate on the arrangement is awesome.
Ur enjoying composition I'm enjoying ur reactions... Great reactions as a composer
been listening to the berklee indian ensemble since its start...such intricate music A R Rehman is talented beyond words my favorite song is chale chalo from the movie clip...motivates me in the morning
Please look at the original version, this cover has better instrumentals but the original has better flow
You couldn’t be more wrong. This version is far more pleasing to foreign ears… this has a beautiful blend of soft calming Indian classical music. The original is just a basic Bollywood song that would bore the average non Indian listener
@@ReeceDhillon I guess you're more wrong here, at least to most of the people. This version is good, but the original is so much better. and I'm not talking about only Indian listeners, knew many non-Indians who preferred the original over this one, but haven't encountered anyone (until you) to do the opposite. whatever, opinions differ. but 'The original is just a basic Bollywood song' - this sentence is what that's completely wrong. The original is a fantastic fusion of Indian classical and western genres, not just an average Bolly song (no way).
@@ruinedstaar Ask yourself why Bollywood music has never broken the western market yet Indian folk or classical music has??? Bhangra, Qawwali, raga… those that react to the original only react nicely out of politeness and respect because they know Lata is loved by Indians. But Latas voice does not suit most songs because it’s too high pitched.
@@ReeceDhillon Did it hurt when you fell down on your head? xD
@@ruinedstaar no technically its not. you dont have the ears for it, but its ok too each their own. this one is so complex at many times, but u cant keep a song like this a movie. movie requires simple and sweet. also, why do we even need to compare? you can listen to both time to time
Due to uncut video your excellency in this field seems on par.... nice interpretation and liked your observations.
