I use your advice when I buy anything now. But sometimes it does get you into trouble. Like,,,the staff at K-Mart get pretty irate when I start dropping super loud (wet) rumblers when I'm trying on new pants. But you have to test them how you would use them,,,Right. And Bunnings got upset when I started up one of their Ride-on mowers and flogged it through their garden section & chopped up their turf they had for sale. But you have to test them how you would use them,,,Right. Thanks for the advice you have changed my life.
I have standard 2008 G6E only just over 90,000 had 38,000 (was an Avis car) and I am keeping it. MY power steering pump failed as well. The FGX ZF was made in China. I am wary of the FGX as everyone knew Ford stopping production here.
Driveline shunt can be a problem with the manuals. It was luck of the draw from the factory and of course how the car was driven and if its been in an accident can contribute too. Tied up with this is the rear diff. More of a problem on the Turbo's and V8's where a lot more torque is sent through them. Early FG XR's also had really dodgy foam in the seats from the factory. The bolsters would fail in them very easily. I think most were replaced under warranty, but worth checking. I have a VF Commodore now, but my experience with past Falcons I owned was there was good ones and there was ones that would never be good no matter what you did to fix them. If you get the latter, sell it and cut your loses. Get a good one however and some TLC and a good independent mechanic can make it a lot of car for not a lot of money.
im looking at buying a bf xr6 to replace my 99 festiva, the banks messed around with me and I'm 500 bucks off for the falcon I want but it's one of the few that I could find that's manual, it has 220k kms but has a full service history, stock and looked after, it only needs an intake manifold gasket but they are cheap. anyhow I've just been making sure I'm confident about there reliability and I can say I have no doubts. I know there's an issue with an oil leak into the transmission which is not good but I know you can get an aftermarket part which would make sure than doesn't happen
Hey mate. Good review. Just want to comment on a point you made about the coolant. I thought green coolant was a big no no in late model cars these days. I read somewhere there's something in the green fluid that eats away at the alloy head. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the shitty brown stuff is the correct fluid to use.
i just bought a 09 fg xr6 and wow even though it's a dedicated gas still go's well, looking at doing a few mods to getit going better. any tip's? ohhh only paid $3,500 for it so i did well in that department
I was thinking of buying a 2010 FG xr6. It’s got about 159000kms it looks pretty clean. I heard that changing the heat exchanger after 100000km is a way to prevent the milkshake. Is there truth to that? Also, if the car does check out, is it worth getting one at this km range?
I've never seen an fg with rubber from burnouts they are all very clean here in SA. the older falcons though are definitely thrashed sadly son there's not many left these days. sadly my fg has been in a front end accident but seems okay.
Also so,etching that happened to us is someone ran up our fg and it looked like jo damage but then we found the tow bar was bent and it caused the whole back of the shazzy bend
Another one I just thought about have owned a few FG Turbos, is when you pull up to the lights and come to a stop, the car jumps forward a tad, like a lash in the driveline, problem is rear uni joints, also do fail when doing big skids 😂😂😂
The issue is the heat exchanger not what gearbox you have, because there is more six speeds than five speeds that means there are more six speeds that have had a milkshake, its as simple as that. So do your research nuffy.
You're a young bloke and on your second Ford. I was a young bloke once, and had an EF. All the things you say are very familiar, especially "badly designed by Ford". As an old bloke who has been through all of the things you mention - save yourself a bucket of money and get rid of it and walk into your nearest Mazda dealership. Roof lining!! Falcons love a sagging roof lining
Yeah my G6E had that. Also a split ZF transmission mount but thats a piss easy fix and 100$ for a genuine new mount.
Not a big deal, cost like 120 bucks to get professionally replaced.
It's almost as Iconic as a ruptured front or rear bumper on a second hand Commodore, or you know, drugs under the seat.
