#lawnmowing #lawncare #lawnmower
A friend recommend this channel and man I’ve learned a lot. Doing lawn care for 3 years on the side and just went full time. Thank you for all the videos and tips!
That is awesome!
Another one! I’m at 20 a week at $50 per mow. However, I have been getting several mulch jobs, as well as aeration and over seeding. Great insight as usual Johnny!
I’m solo operator with 25 weekly accounts ranging in yard sizes from 1/4 acre to 3acre plus lots . You can absolutely make money working solo if you are disciplined, dedicated and on time …. Weather permitting lol. With the 25 lawns all residential I have I gross just above 10k a month and pretty have everything mowed by Thursday 👍🏻👍🏻. P.S channels like yours give me motivation to go harder and tweek my route and way I run my operation. Keep it up BLADES
I did this work for 24 yrs not for the faint at heart, grass, trees, snow, mulch, leaves, very demanding job keeps you young at heart.
My business is growing (very) slow and steady every year. Mowing may be oversaturated and the least profitable service in landscaping but I enjoy it, and I think zero turns are fun, and I'm paying my bills so can't complain.
Man I can't tell you how glad I am that I found your channel. You are truly inspirational to guys like me that are working solo trying to build up my clients and my fleet. Keep up the good work!!
I've learned a lot from this channel. Thank God for UA-cam. Johnny is a top notch lawncare specialists and gives out free knowledge.
My biggest thing this season is condensing routes. It's been amazing and it's a must for lawn care. Everything you said in this video is 100% spot on
40-45 yards a week I work Monday to Thursday with Friday being my catch up days 8-10 properties about $500-$700 daily depending on if there's hedges, shrubs, weed killer, gutter cleaning.
Nice!
If a yard take you 30 minutes solo, Mowing, edging and weedeating how much you charge?
@@ZamoraA-qr5ng I know its been a hot minute since you asked this question, but the answer is it really depends, is it a high income neighborhood, how much overhead do you have? if you need to make 40+ a lawn to pay the overhead on your equipment can that lawn support you? can the customer even afford it? does it have a ton of trees and plant beds? if its a wide open postage stamp yard that takes 30 minutes in my area its a 40 dollar yawn, if its a corner yard I add another 10, if its a its a cluttered lawn thats another 10.
Thank you Mr. Johnny, this is my seventh year in this this business and I applied every last information throughout the years of my business with adding Soft/Pressure washing and dumpster rentals service and now makes 6 figures part-time. I'm in the Pooler Ga. area but hopefully I will meet you one day. Pop smoke!
I’m interested in starting one in north GA. Do you have some time to network? I would love to pick your brain.
I work full time for a local pressure wash business owner. Pays me 15 an hour. Yesterday I mowed 3 yards with a push mower within 5hrsI made $380. Hopefully, I do full-time soon.
I been doing lawncare a long time and it always makes me laugh when some of these guys claim they doing 20 yards and making a 1000 dollars a day solo. I’m calling bs, no way anyone is doing that a day and they sure not doing that everyday they would be burned out fast.
Impossible to make 1000 a day 5 days a week for a solo landscaping company 👎🏼been in this solo for 8 years
Ummm I do 600+ in 2 days per week. Only have 11 yards
@@Billybillz4732 when you started did you open LLC?after that did you get a loan for your equipment is it that easy?Liie after I pay for my llc could I get a loan for all my work equipment?how much to make 1k a year on my own like how many accounts would I need and how much do you charge typically or does that vary?
You absolutely have to be a self motivated person in this line of work. Some people are motivated until that heat kicks in lol
😂👍
Facts
@@Bladesofgrasslawncare What practical steps do you take to help deal with the heat? Thanks.
If you have the right equipment the heat shouldn't be a problem.
@SerafinN26 I disagree. When it's 100°+ Temps outside and your doing physical labor not everyone can handle that heat. Between the heat and not knowing how to get work in the winter is when most guys quit
You are right about the HOA. I have a few HOA accounts from word of mouth. My only question is since you say to target HOAs, how do you target them if they’re all no soliciting neighborhoods?
I've seen tons of these videos and this was the best direct and informative video that I've seen. Great video!
My Dad had 3 jobs in the spring, summer, & fall time and this was one of the jobs that he did. He worked at the VA hospital for 35 years, and he was also a baseball umpire during the season while I was in school... He grinded for me to be talented and educated.
I have 2 regulars that pay me $100 and 1 at $60 but all other are intermate customers. That range from $60-150. If only get the 3 then I'm done by noon including travel time. It's only a side gig for me but I have invested in commercial equipment, (scag, toro, sthil) Love your videos.
I moved into building fences from mowing lawns. For me I like the fact I can be on one property for several days. Instead of making 10 stops +. With that being said I have kept about 20 of my really good customers and I do the by myself on Sunday's. Because I still really enjoy doing yards from time to time.
I’m not in the lawn care business, but I always say make your 💰to cover your expenses and money in the bank. Great informative video Johnny 👍🏾💨
Thanks alot just spent 20k on my lawn business your videos really helped me out
That is awesome!
Greetings,
I’m in the process of starting a lawn care service here in Michigan, came across your channel and became more Inspired! Looking for suggestions on tools starting with residential properties?
Keep giving out helpful content on lawn service care!!!
Blessings
One of the biggest things I’ve implements from this channel is route management!! Consolation makes you more money!! As you say…. You aren’t making money if your equipment isn’t running!
@bladesofgrasslawncare 5 year subscriber. Just want to say thank you for your videos. I learn so many tips from your videos for my own home. My neighbor asked me if I could mow their lawn this season. So your methods work in Missouri! Lol. Thank you again
Just starting out awesome channel my brother I’m a brother from Virginia getting it in
Mapping out your trimming before trimming a lawn. Hit the trimming in stride. Back tracking on trimming kills time on each lawn. And makes you work harder than you need too.
Solo northern GA $650-$750 a day with my tight route. I mostly use a 54 inch walk behind with a sulky. Sometimes much more if I have other projects.
Yes sir, I usually get 3-5 customers a day and I’ll have to drop some next season they are too big and they don’t want to pay the extra and also yes I’m going to have those targeted areas like I should
Pop Smoke Glad to see You back and doing good...
My son and I mow around 24 lawns per day (2 guys, 1 truck), ranging anywhere between $800-1000 per day. I've really been considering running two solo trucks.
Well, I would consider the level of expertise you both have, but keep in mind that the work will get harder if you're one vs two doing 24 yards that's great to me. I would leave it like it is
Damn 24 lawns per day is a great number. My record is 14 solo, but i think that was an 11 hour day. Also remember if u split up u will need double the equipment and have double the maintenance. I would advise to only split if u plan on growing the business more and hiring helpers in the future.
@@Menzu111 here on a solo day but they was some considerable windshield involved , otherwise I’d hit 14 as well on a 12hr day Solo.
😂😂 your math don't math up
I have over 20 houses maybe 5 houses a day at 40-45 a house. It takes me all day because of the 33inch walk behind I have. I desperately need a walk behind to make it go faster. All my houses are 5-7 mins from each other and the farthest is 20 mins. But it takes me 45mins to an hr to cut and weed. Working on getting a zero turn and trailer.
i did 295.00 in a single 6 hour day, and that was using a push mower and a craftsman riding lawnmower that cuts 44 inches, im sure if i had a zero turn and better equpiment and more ' grass ' capacity im sure its possible for me to hit 400-500 a day, but i live at home so i dont have as much ' space 'as i would like, but for now, it works.
Awesome!
How do you like the battery operated tools vs gas ?
Johnny what up!! Been busting my chops out here in the fields. Good to see you still making it happen as well!
Just wondering, how much are you paying for medical insurance? I imagine also that you have a growing season to consider? How do you support your living expenses when the grass slows down?
All depends on route density I can cut three houses in one hour if they r next to each other or two houses an hour in the same neighborhood but different streets
What’ sit down zero turn your using ? It’ fits perfectly in the gate wow I need that
I run a lawn care business in Guam so I don’t have to worry about any seasons other than summer lol. Also, these guys over here pay HUGE. But the grass isn’t like stateside grass, it’s more of a patch of weeds mashed all together to make grass.
I cut 52 yds a week for just over $2500 per. Routings pretty good, had 5 yds 2-3 acres and the rest avg. 1/2 acre. Mostly residential, some retail, and some commercial. All fescue and included cut, trim, blow, and spray for weeds.
How much is profit?
@@scarface2045 The guy I cut for did production. I got half minus workmans comp so about 47%, 25% for equipment and consumables and 25% profit.
Locations like retirement communities are very profitable you literally become the go to guy for everything. I also like dealing with local real estate agencies.
IMO you should be making at least $350/day (on your worst day) after all is said and done, but that depends on the market-and that cost should be post-overhead and other indirect costs. Landscaping is a bit different here in Southern California though, we have a different market in that we are evergreen and most customers don't just want lawn care. Great insight though! Absolutely love these videos.
Organized and motivated. Very inspiring.
Thanks Johnny for all your advise as I'm starting my own lawn care business. I've ordered the Darwin handle through your link, my back thanks you GREATLY!!Blessings Always! Joe
Fantastic!
Yes, equipment is 🔑. I invest in a tool a week, at least to improve. Also, I sharpen my blades at least once a week.
I started my business and I didn't have a truck, had a Craftsman 2 wheeled mower and borrowed a truck from a friend every day and saved $, made $ off crypto and network marketing.
I'll continue to add to my tool collection and look for a crew. The hardest thing about being in lawn care has been finding good help ❗️❗️❗️
The Goat! Learn something every time I watch you! Thanks big bra!
I appreciate that
Thanks for this video big bro! I'm just starting and have made some sacrifices to purchase good equipment 💪🏾 . Video is to the point motivating and in plain English. Much success to you!💯
I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Great content will be starting the marketing 5 starting today. 💪🏾🙏🏾
I generally make around $1200 a week and could easily make more but I choose to only work 3 days a week. I turn work down or give it away daily. The potential income is unlimited if you are motivated, disciplined ,and put everyone on a schedule.
What do you make after putting gas in the mowers?
@markcornish6393 I spend around $125 to $150 depending on which route I'm on. I pull with a 2021 F250 and it doesn't drink a lot of diesel because it's been deleted.
@@patrickgradyboone so you make $1000 ish weekly after gas
@markcornish6393 That or a little more. Depends on what I have scheduled. I only work 3 days a week by choice. I could easily fill up a 5 day a week schedule, but I do not wanna kill myself. The earning potential is unlimited if u r willing to put in the work but building a clientele is the hard part. I've been doing this 10 years so I'm established.
@@patrickgradyboone I’m a truck driver for the last 20 years. Honestly just tired of it and looking for a career change. I spend 12 hours a day 5 days a week sitting in traffic and I’m just exhausted. I basically do it for the money at this point. Lately I’m thinking I could make what I make now easily while working less hours in lawn care. I make $1300 bring home weekly after 55-60 hours
Well I am learning that it take time to build up yards that is right by each other in this business. But I get what you are saying I just will be happy when I can have my yards in one area
It takes time and work, but it's achievable
Brush cutting only, here in Australia $500 per day. 60 plus customers.
im also in Australia, how do you get brush cutting only jobs? and how do you quote them? i do brush cutting for the council and can easily do it. but dont know where to find the clients that would want brush cutting only
What type of head is that for the weed eater? I also noticed is the string not breaking?
I started out walking with trash bags a rake and a broom now i have my own truck 50 customers and some dope equipment
Great work, great work ethic, and nice video ! I like it , general facts , and putting the skills to work, great results Sir , by the way nice set up an equipment!! Be safe out there, and have a great week .
Thank you very much!
Un caro saluto dall'italia . Sei grande ragazzo !🖐
this is so nostalgic, it brings back memories
How would you bid on commercial properties
where did you get your shirts made?
Always keep a minimum price. Even if it's the smallest yard that only takes you 5 minutes.
45 should be minimum but some crackheads be doing it for 20 . They don't last long out here
I think $500 is the most solo with a good setup. On a consistent basis. I run everything with walk behind mowers and it is not easy. U can only walk so much in a day. I struggle to make 3-400 solo with my current setup. But I am saving to get that better commercial grade mower. I do smaller yards so got my eyes on a 32 inch standar B. I also run a trailerless setup but I dont have fancy ramps. So I use standard ramps that need to be setup and broken down every job and strapped in to prevent them from falling off as I unload my 36 walk behind BOP mower . This takes time and energy. So I usually don't break em out unless yard severely overgrown or its that big of a yard. Mostly I just go with my 22 inch Honda. Its lighter quicker and better on gas, but more walking and trips to cut the grass.its a easy job but at same time its not a easy job. Sometimes I just buy a scratch ticket and hope I win 10g for that nice mower lol. I not stingy I dont want a million. Just enough to get what I need to be self sufficient lol. One day. Goals, we need to set goals.
I do about 700 a day average. I have a tractor and i just cut large. yards out in the country. I start early and finish early
I try to get 10-12 done per day 5 days per week weekends as catchup days
How much would you charge for a 10,000 to 15,000 sqft
I definitely need to work on my route density. Btw I miss hearing you run the Stihl 111RX.
Good content. Buddy! Im solo as well, do u take grass? I do but dont want to, grass flap or mukching kit?
What size trailer is that?
me & my dad get done 7-3 almost everyday. idk exact number due to not knowing every single price but the cheapest day is about $500 the most is give or take $945 probably $1000 cause I’m probably off on a couple. Work all 5 days usually depending on weather if we know before hand about weather we usually try and work 4 days if it’s on a Friday. We are also doing pruning every place also not just mowing edging weed eating and blowing.
This is so clever. excellent!
Glad you think so!
What do you do in the off season to keep an income flow
I don't have a off season in the south, it slows down but I'm always working
I also learned when your cutting grass make sure your passing out flyers in that area
fixed costs you must know: loan payments, maintenance costs (blades, string, filters, oil), million dollar small biz insurance, auto insurance, theft/ fire insurance on the equipment, web site cost, software cost, accountant cost, fuel, advertisement (eddm, door hangers, FB.)
It's that time already grass is about to start growing again
I just started in the industry, normally I build commercial/ residential. I've got 110 accounts a week and I'm having a hard time keeping up. I'm running solo, about 12 to 13 hours a day, I'm going in this weekend too. My question is, how many quarter or third acre lawns can one guy mow in a day? Most of the jobs are located within a mile of one another and most have lots of edging, as well as fencing. I'm averaging 13 a day, but some days I've got 17-25 to complete. How do I keep up? I'm getting 20% faster everyday, but Monday is coming soon, 25 accounts! Any tips?
I’m retired and needed a way to get out of the house and keep busy, I decided to put out an ad for mowing services. The first thing I learned is to not be greedy and take on more than I can handle. 25 lawns in one day…..too much by yourself
Bro keep it simple and say how much you make I think what you are saying is common sense for most looking to start a business
Thank you my brother 😊
Welcome!
How do I get In contact with him can someone please help me !!!
I knock out about 700 a day mowing. And that is hustling doing larger estate jobs. Long days. I am using top of the line exmarks.
where are you located if you don't mind me asking?
@@maunster6978 central Maryland.
What is the furthest distance you drive for your furthest area?
9 miles away
Just started this spring and have (15) yards that I do with my dad is it worth getting an LLC and insurance ? What’s your thought on that?
Yes! There's a lot of advantages getting your paperwork to make your business legit ie Taxes, liability, etc.
Hi Johnny I've been watching your videos for some time now and you always give sound advice. Very professional and respectful. My issue is I'm a renter on a budget and it's hard to find someone that will do a one-time mow. I have health issues that prohibit me from doing my lawn like I used to. Do you have any advice on seeking people that will mow without having to have a contract or putting me on a schedule?
Coming from somebody that mows for a living it's hard to find somebody to just do one times and if you do they are gonna charge hefty usely you just gotta find the right guy or girl willing to do it
I can’t believe how short the grass you are cutting is. Where I live people don’t want you to cut their grass unless it’s long, like several inches long. 2 weeks minimum.
Solo, central Florida I make $600 a day off of regular weekly services.
Nice!
What is your minimum monthly for weekly service
@@luisrodriguez7843 $100 a month is the minimum.
I make more then that on a weekly salary working for someone, gotta keep in mind this is solo starting most professionals have many crews, may make that a week but u can make more with actualy having employees
Would you recommend to keep it specifically to lawn care or landscaping too?
Some will do lawn care for 2 or 3 days and the rest landscaping
Great videos, subscribed!
THANK YOU.....

Great job on your video brother can’t wait for your next episode

how much did you charge the customer in the video
Hi Johnny
Do you like the toro Electric weedeater equipment more than husqvarna? Can't decide both brands are local to me.
Yes, and I will be getting the new pro series from TORO soon so stay tuned
What is the size of your trailer?
7X16'
mad respect for you!
What size that trailer bro ?

Love the content! Is a riding mower (non-zero turn) and push mower combo good to have as well?
Yes. We all started with something and upgraded with time, best to you and thanks for watching!
I’m gonna make it work 😇
Have always enjoyed watching you Johnny! Thank you for wonderful lawn care videos, keep it up!
Glad you like them!
Hey Grate videos keep up grate work I have a question I will be relocating to another state I have a lil lawn business of about 25 yards would u keep ur same prices relocating? Wats ur thoughts on that?
Thanks
Nope! Try to find ways to get the local pricing and always remember that each location and demographic have a different price.
So I am going to be in the same boat as you. I retire from Army in 3 years (45 Years Old). My biggest concern about getting into the lawncare business is my body. How is your body holding up out there?
Like a champ, keeps me fit
