I’m not sure you understand what you are asking for. You should never ask for the apocalypse where billions of people are destroyed by fire. There is no pre tribulation rapture. You should desire that more people repent and are saved. The more time God gives us the better!Once the day of judgement comes, it will be too late.
Well, that was interesting. I agree with some of what you said. I was raised in lousy parish and left the Church as a young man. I wandered through life swimming in the devils lake for many a year. Then I faced a serious crisis and decided I wanted to get out of those waters but I didn't want anything to do with the Catholic Church. So I went church shopping. I did see a lot of what you are talking about, pastors seeming to make things up as they went along and such and when I did finally return home I was astonished to discover that all of the structure and formality of the Catholic liturgy that I thought I wanted nothing to to do with was precisely what I was missing and what made me know I was home. That said, I think it's a stretch to say America will be the most Catholic country in 100 years. There are plenty of countries enjoying a more robust revival than the U.S. places like China and Africa where people have to fight for their faith and are tested. They are getting a more pure version of the faith and their priests and bishops stay the course. That's not always the case here in the U.S. And I wouldn't point people to the internet to learn about Catholicism, or use it as a measuring stick to how people feel or how healthy the Church is. People need to go to Mass and attendance is lagging. Only 17% of Americans attend Mass regularly. I'm one and the Mass I attend is pretty gray. Catholics just do not do a very good job evangelizing. And while I don't get wrapped around too many papal axles our current Pope sends out an awful lot of mixed messages. There have been too many instances of heresy and blasphemy that have not resulted in excommunication and too many instances of Priests and Bishops who have tried to stay true to tradition being attacked from within. I'm not trying to pour cold water on your thesis, just stating things I have seen.
I agree completely. On paper, the arguments for the need for Catholic authority and continuity are very strong. But the reality on the ground in so many places is that those vested with authority are using it to deconstruct the Tradition that is entrusted to them.
I find hope in the number of parishes that are on the Reverent Catholic Mass website. Those are the parishes that are full of young people. I refer to that site when I travel so I know where to try to attend.
For the most part I agree, however we can't get over confident. Like the 60's turmoil there's always questions like what's a just society or a just war. What helps our Faith, like our Nation, is a good tripart checks & balance system that keeps hunanity in check. For us Catholics it's Scripture, Tradition, & the Teaching Magisterium.
Even some protestant pastors recognize authority of the Catholic Church. I remember hearing on the radio 30+ years ago an interview with someone who was Protestant and she feared her son might be possessed. Her Protestant pastor (I forget which denomination) wasn't convinced he was possessed, but told her something along the lines of "If he is possessed, only a Catholic priest has sufficient authority to perform an exorcism, I can't help him. You need to go to talk to a Catholic priest about your son."
I'm a 77 year-old practicing Catholic and having a double major in US History and Theology (M. R. Ed. too). What world do you live in?? Can someone provide a page number from Democracy in America for this quote? "Our descendants will tend increasingly to divide into only two parts, some leaving Christianity entirely and the others embracing the Church of Rome." Because I cannot find it. Pretty sure de Tocqueville neither wrote nor said this.
But I am inclined to believe that the number of these thinkers will be less in democratic than in other ages; and that our posterity will tend more and more to a single division into two parts-some relinquishing Christianity entirely, and others returning to the bosom of the Church of Rome." Book 2 Chapter 6.
Excellent analysis of the modern gulf between catholics and protestants, I think we ( in this modern era) don't have the luxury of seeing with the eyes of our predecessors in former times, I speak now of the reformation and the counter reformation believers, I also catechise in O.C.I.A. so I see what you see, and I think I may have commented before on de Tocquevilles " Democracy in America" I am recommending it to any of my new Catholics who may be interested in that direction.

What does this mean? “Constitutional” refers to the fact that government in the United States is based on a Constitution which is the supreme law of the United States.. . As Catholics become more Biblical there is a greater attraction for me - remember they kicked Luther out for following scripture - they have accepted most of Luthers 95 thesis so they are finally becoming more "protestant" and Biblical. Once they accept salvation by faith alone (Eph 2:8-10) and give up the infant baptism and worship or over reverence and praying to Mary (there is ONE mediator between man and God - Jesus - NOT MARY) maybe they would accept me - otherwise they would kick me out too for following the Bible.
Young man (old man here LOL) that was some good observations and quotes. From a sociological / psychological angle, it makes sense. What is unknown is the ratio. However, we also know from Revelation that in the end, it is "a remnant". Also the narrow gate etc. That means the heretics, apostates, downright evil, will all be in the majority. Those looking for God and true church will be the minority. But what of the Protestant fragmentation and rejection of the Church Jesus created? Almost by definition, protestant means to protest - against authority. So the softly-softly "ecumenical" types say as long as you call on the name of Jesus = saved. But Jesus Himself said "he who hears you hears Me; he who rejects you rejects Me". And "you" is the apostles and thus apostolic succession. So I think (conjecture) that only those who have "invincible ignorance" - brainwashed by pastors, or not very studious - may get a pass. But those pastors, who claim they study bible - John MacArthur comes to mind, pitching himself as the foremost bible scholar - I don't think they'll get a get-out-of-jail card.
Because the Catholic Church is going through modernization and modernity, it makes it easier for people to practice Catholicism. Easier means that Catholics are welcomed who practice cafeteria Catholicism. Confessions are seldom and 1-2 minutes because sin has been water downed. The American Catholic Church isn’t holding high standards for attaining sanctifying grace and salvation. The messaging from the pulpit is that everyone gets communion and everyone gets saved by minimalist effort. With the Synod just finished, the church will liberalize, modernize, and the lay Catholics will call the shots on how the church operates, gets money, and goes about saving souls.
What you're saying may be true but I don't think your numbers are correct. Practical Catholics are a minority. The rough numbers are about 10 to 15% of baptized Catholics actually go to church. So keep dreaming.
If I may share here this quote from Cardinal Nguyen Van Thuan who spent 13 years in jail in hard conditions, because his faith :”By the will of Christ, the Catholic Church is, in fact, mistress of truth: its function is to authentically express and teach the Truth which is Christ [...] the disciple is bound towards Christ Master TO THE DUTY TO KNOW EVER MORE FULLY THE TRUTH THAT HE RECEIVED FROM HIM, to announce it faithfully and to defend it energetically while refraining from any means contrary to the Spirit of the Gospel. (Extract from his book : “365 jours d’espérence”)
-IS- the U.S. becoming Catholic? All of the Christians around me (other than my family) believe that the U.S. MUST back Israel, because THEY are God's Chosen People. (Including "Catholics") They also support religious freedom, something Pope Pius IX called an "Abominable Heresy". The world needs to become Catholic, but I'm not seeing it yet.
The US isn't thexwhole world. South america and África have been converting to protestantism for 40 years. The denomination I grew up in the Christian and Missionary Alliance has more congregations overseas than here
Why not if not because as St. Athanasius (AD297-383), the Father of Orthodoxy and Bishop of Alexandria) alluded to the apostolicity and orthodoxy of the Catholic Church when he wrote: "It will not be out of place to consider the ancient tradition, teaching and faith of the Catholic Church which was revealed by the Lord, proclaimed by the Apostles and guarded by the Fathers; for upon this, the faith of the Church is built and if anyone were to lapse from it, he would no longer be a Christian either in fact or in name." Does this strike you?
I think Catholicism will grow as a percentage of the population But I also think the gap between Christian and non-Christians will widen So I think there will be more ecumenism and efforts for Christians of different denominations to work together I saw it in Salt Lake City with the Catholic church and the Church of the Latter Day Saints (obviously I don’t agree with core parts of Mormonism), but I think it’s a good representation of the times to come and how partnerships are forming that seemed insane 70 years ago
You have young men (single) that are coming in the church but younger women leaving the church, not sure the young men's intent, but maybe thinking there going to find a wife? Women see the church as lot of pain for no gain.
I think America in 100 years will either be Christian or pagan. Simple as that. Now notice my statement is quite general regarding the name "Christianity". Cause not all "denominations" are Christian.
As a Catholic priest, I assure you that Catholics believe that it is only through Jesus that we are saved. it's just that we believe we do so as members of the Body of Christ and that the pope has a unique role in the Body of Christ. But he's not the Savior, only Christ is. Christ is the King of kings; the pope is only his prime minister. Prime ministers come and go; the true King is unchanging. The great Catholic convert writer, Msgr. Ronald Knox, replied to this criticism in these profound words: "For the Catholic, as for the Protestant, sanctification is the direct work of Christ; it is Christ, not the Church, who gives us (as Priest and Victim) his Body and Blood in Communion. It is Christ who forgives our sins, sometimes when we submit them to the Church in confession, sometimes before. The Catholic, no less than the Protestant, hopes to be saved through the merits of Christ’s Blood shed for him, and for no other consideration. The Church, then, in the order of worship, does not come between Christ and the individual soul. But in the order of intellectual conviction, the Church does, if you will, come between Christ and the individual mind. It is through the Church that the Catholic finds out what he is to believe and why he is to believe it" (Ronald A. Knox, The Belief of Catholics, Ch. 10, p. 105).
How many of these Americans have an in depth knowledge of the true Biblical Salvation By Grace Alone Through Faith Alone in Christ For the Glory of God Alone?🤔
Faith with out works is dead? Work out your salvation in fear and trembling? 'You have faith and I have works.' Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works? You ignore whole chunks of the bible to support a heresy and then call other people ignorant. Faith alone is a false doctrine. Faith in cooperation with works is a correct doctrine.
That is foolishness what your saying ! we need structure in our lives that the Roman Catholic church can bring .....? Your Roman Catholic system is a mess at the moment . many priests ,Bishops, some Cardinals and many parishioners are angry with the current pope. They want his removal. Turn peoples eyes towards Christ and him alone and see what great and mighty things He will do thru his people and heal their land !
That seems a silly statement. How 'many' (a large indefinate number) would 'many' be... theres roughly 407,872 priests, 5,500 Bishops, 253 Cardinals and 1.3 billion parishioners (how many of those 1.3 billion are active, knowledgable Catholics vs. 'cultural' Catholics who listen to random uneducated, dissenting voices?)?
The path is winding and treacherous but we must remember that God’s ways are far beyond what we can comprehend
I am since more than 60 years a catholic from deep of my heart❤
Even some protestant pastors recognize authority of the Catholic Church. I remember hearing on the radio 30+ years ago an interview with someone who was Protestant and she feared her son might be possessed. Her Protestant pastor (I forget which denomination) wasn't convinced he was possessed, but told her something along the lines of "If he is possessed, only a Catholic priest has sufficient authority to perform an exorcism, I can't help him. You need to go to talk to a Catholic priest about your son."
I didn't know about that Tocqueville prediction

"Our descendants will tend increasingly to divide into only two parts, some leaving Christianity entirely and the others embracing the Church of Rome." Because I cannot find it. Pretty sure de Tocqueville neither wrote nor said this.
But I am inclined to believe that the number of these thinkers will be less in democratic than in other ages; and that our posterity will tend more and more to a single division into two parts-some relinquishing Christianity entirely, and others returning to the bosom of the Church of Rome."

@CameronRiecker 100 yrs is a long time, but America will have to compete with Phillipines, Poland to name a few.
Have you ever read Common Sense by Thomas Paine?
What you're saying may be true but I don't think your numbers are correct. Practical Catholics are a minority. The rough numbers are about 10 to 15% of baptized Catholics actually go to church. So keep dreaming.
Padre Pío said America would become Catholic surely but slowly. While Russia would convert quickly.
So long as non-denoms have the most impact as any of the protestants, yes. Probably yes.
I think Catholicism will grow as a percentage of the population
But I also think the gap between Christian and non-Christians will widen
So I think there will be more ecumenism and efforts for Christians of different denominations to work together
I saw it in Salt Lake City with the Catholic church and the Church of the Latter Day Saints (obviously I don’t agree with core parts of Mormonism), but I think it’s a good representation of the times to come and how partnerships are forming that seemed insane 70 years ago
You have young men (single) that are coming in the church but younger women leaving the church, not sure the young men's intent, but maybe thinking there going to find a wife? Women see the church as lot of pain for no gain.

7th Day Adventist... not going Catholic. Only thru Jesus... not a pope
Ronald Knox, replied to this criticism in these profound words:
"For the Catholic, as for the Protestant, sanctification is the direct work of Christ; it is Christ, not the Church, who gives us (as Priest and Victim) his Body and Blood in Communion.
What about all the other Scripture in the Bible that is necessary for salvation ? Are you just going to ignore it ?
Faith with out works is dead?
Work out your salvation in fear and trembling?
'You have faith and I have works.' Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works?
You ignore whole chunks of the bible to support a heresy and then call other people ignorant. Faith alone is a false doctrine. Faith in cooperation with works is a correct doctrine.
Fine as long as you know you can't earn your salvation.
What scripture are you referring to?
