It just struck me that when the Atreides ship rises from the ocean, the music and sounds mimic the rise of the Shai-Hulud sandworms on Arrakis. Fantastic juxtaposition.
good observation, one dude on youtube explained how Zimmer attached specific sounds to planets and families in the movie so that every time a character is shown doing something in some place, it's a mix of these specific sounds and how the influence of his values and identity changes over time.
One of my favourite scenes from the movie! The sheer awe and majestic epic grand scale is a sight to behold! This scene is truly a delight on the senses! I could listen to this music and marvel at this scene all day!
Definitely looks cool but the Atreides did not park their spacecraft under water. My guess is that they borrowed the idea from the Star Trek movie where Kirk parked his starship under water....for no particular reason.
@@tinman1955 While the book doesn't specifically mention parking them underwater, I think it's very likely they did it in times of heightened 'national security'. Because sabotage in Dune is real, and even partially permitted under the rules of Kanly, providing that civilians weren't being overly exposed. What better way to keep your transports safe? Especially given that the outer layer is likely a composite material not invented yet, rather than metal. And the water is probably lower salinity like the baltic or black sea. A strength of Villeneuve is that he has a good imagination, but in a way that's consistent with the established lore. I think that otherwise, the transports would usually be stored in a military protected facility/specialised hangars in times when tensions with the Harkonnens or any other enemy/rival were not as high.
I love the contrast in the cinematography, the huge high tech ships, with the traditional interiors, boxing up a bulls head in a wooden crate, with a timeless walk on the beach. They perfectly captured the mixture of advanced technology, tradition and nature that the novels portrayed so well. I felt it was done really well throughout the feel, representing a more advanced society. Where things are built to last and the unholy thinking machine is rejected.
Seriously, Dune really nails the "ancient future" aesthetic. Star Wars and other sci fi universes try to do the same thing but imo, fails. Crazy how nobody has been able to match what Frank Herbert wrote 60+ years ago. I love the movie for being able to capture that feeling of being in the very far future so well. Everything is so alien yet somehow familiar at the same time.

Sadly, on Arrakeen they didn't really know what to do with them. They weren't used to the new environment, so they parked them along the space port, only making them exposed like sitting ducks!
This, the opening prologue, and the worm attack on the spice harvester are the 3 best sequences in the movie IMO. Edit: Paul's vision in the tent is up there too.
@@davester5234 I liked something specific about that scene. There's a part of it right before the Bene Gesserit leave where you see 3 of the Benne Gesseret off to the side in the background in myst. To me, that invoked heavy "Witches from Macbeth" vibes. I would be surprised if that wasn't the inspiration.
Paul touching water for the last time ever and seeing the sunset is so symbolic! His future lies in the desert and for that to unfold, the sun needs to set on House Atreides.

The Guild Highliners. I love the way they depicted them in this movie. Instead of hitching a ride as the ship "folds space," jumping from one point in the universe to another, they fold space with the Highliner serving as a wormhole between the two points of folded space. That's brilliant!
is it me or the water in 0:10 to 0:22 is falling too fast? to check i tried pouring water from 20 floors up and it took a while to reach the ground haha just nitpicking here
Something to consider Caladan looks nice an Earth like, but it's not impossible that it could have higher/different gravity and or a thinner atmosphere. Or whatever anti gravity drives they use have odd effects on things surrounding the ship
The opening scene isn't exactly the same as in the movie. The ship gets about halfway out of the water in the actual movie before cutting to Paul compared to this video with it all the way up. So I would say it's probably because it's sped up.
That better not be a knock on Klepacki, 'cause he killed in with the Dune 2000 OST. Carried the spirit of Toto from the Lynch film! But yeah, this song and soundtrack by Zimmerman slays.

As a world builder and amateur 3d modeler, I was in awe from this scene.
This, the Ornathoptor, and Spice Harvester scenes make me want to just watch them over and over, so freaking cool

I always wonder why the ships are underwater I guess because it would be hard to spot them from space on land they’re easy targets
When they talked about air and sea power, I wondered if they interchangeably used those crafts as both submarines/boats and flying airships
