There was no mention of a 48V architecture. Also, you conveniently did not talk about the steer by wire advantage of the Tesla. What about the larger bed capacity with a vault? There is also storage in the bed of the Cybertruck underneath the bed, unlike the lightning. The handling and suspension are far superior on the Cybertruck over the Lightning. It is all around a more modern vehicle. I guess you don’t think FSD is a big deal either? How about factory 35” tires? This review seems extremely biased.
Pro, cybertruck good for crime, bullet resistant. Con: cybertruck, stupidest name
Nice video!
Entry level Lightning is AWD while CT is RWD.
Exactly
I will own both so can give a better comparison after I take delivery, but the Lightning is awesome. I believe I’ll love my CyberTruck though. I do love the look.
I agree that there is room for both.
The implication that the primary use of trucks is long distance towing is not correct. Even those of us Lightning owners who do tow typically tow short distances, like taking my boat 10 miles to the river. Most pickup owners don't have a need to tow long distances, and if they do, they should not buy an electric anything. So, this is FUD in a comparison between the CyberTruck and the Lightning.
I was actually very impressed by the Ford when it came out. and from what I hearing, the T3 will be serious advancement. great post as always Alex.
Towing - the two areas that drop your range when towing are wind resistance (the drop behind the vehicle catching the trailer) and the added weight of the trailer and materials.
We have a BYD atto 3 and recently did a towing trip with it. On general driving, without high speed (over 90kph) the range reduced by about 1/3. When towing at higher speeds (due to wind resistance) or uphill over 60kph, the range reduced by aroung 50%
Nice video!
I originally got the Lightning as a gap vehicle until my CT came in. I have ended up liking it a lot, and given all the changes since 2019, I'm now happily keeping the Lightning and passing on the CT.
Never thought about buying an Ev until I saw the CT, i'm holding my reservation for the Awd version, saw it in person and had thoughts about driving it through the showroom window 😂 that bastard Elon is about to abuse my bank account.
I guess those that wants to tow would opt for range extender but no need to carry all the extra batteries for the rest. Thanks for the video!
I like the Cybertruck for what it is, a giant middle finger to Musk haters.
Like e for electric - i like it too
Also only going to sell to enthusiastic Musk-lovers, which is a smaller demographic than Musk would like to think.
No one hates him, they pity him. Pretty sure this isn't the only guy who feels this way. This was from a FTL YT video, deal with it.
>>The top “3 motor 500 mile” model was $69,990 at launch. FSD was $7K. So my ~ $85K order for a 6 passenger 500 mile truck became $120K for a 5 passenger 350 mile range. Also not 3500lbs capacity or 14,000 tow. So I cancelled. I assume many will.
This was the funniest and IMO most unbiased reporting about the cybertruk yet.
It would be so great to have a retro interior, with knobs and buttons for stuff you need to do while driving (at night!). And maybe even have a 3-seater couch in the front!
You could have the front bench seat if you got rid of the display and added a center airbag. Somehow an explosive airbag hurling a glass display at a passenger is a bad thing.
most of the cyber truck features can be controlled with voice commands and steering wheel buttons so you never have to take your eyes off the road.
Like talking to your horse lol@@jamessmith-yk3sc
From what I have seen. Tesla will open up under used charging stations to other companies. It will help Tesla get more revenue from these locations but more importantly it will encourage Tesla to build chargers where there is little EV traffic. This will mean better coverage for everyone.
Superchargers will be shut down en mass eventually, i give it max 5 years as the important manufacturers encourage charging in every parking spot in America and europe, tesla was forced to waste money on building charger stations otherwise they would not have sold many cars, big manufacturers will have hundreds of companies installing charging stations so they can take any profit tesla was hoping to have..
@@andrewbrown6578 Quit a waste when an investment helps net $12+ billion a year. More than all the other EV makers combined. Read Tesla's mission statements.
I think this guy really doesn't like the cybertruck/tesla
I wonder why Tesla doesn't go for an 800V charging system like, for instance, Hyundai?
CT is 800v and 48v
With the amount of reservations and ramp time needed its important to remember the current F150 is not the truck it will be competing versus in the market in the long term. The current version of the f150 lighting is only expected to have around a year of production left. The next version of Fords truck the T3 (what Ford is calling their next truck lineup) will be the main competitor. That truck will come with NACS and is suppose to come in 2025 model. So probably start seeing it in a year toward the end of 2024.
I hope it's not as ugly as the patent filings show. They should stick with traditional truck layout. The frunk of the Lightning is class-leading.
This is the problem tesla really has , the experienced manufacturers are testing and putting a lot into r&d, they will soon start releasing ev's that blow tesla away, already the kia and Hyundai are real competition, in fact much better than tesla in every aspect. And they are not close to being the biggest oldest manufacturers that will use their experience to produce many cars that show how inferior tesla is. 2 years and tesla sales will drop to almost insignificant numbers having already lost 50% of the market share, 33% in the last year alone..
@@andrewbrown6578 I don't think anyone will blow anyone else away unless a big shift in tech happens. Charge rates are tied to Tesla charge standard. Also market share is not necessarily ev vs ev. ev vs ice until ev sales growth stops. Most manufactures have recently announced slowing their transitions to EVs.
I for one won't consider a Hyundai EV when the battery replacement for IONIQ 5 is reported in multiple cases to have a replacement cost of $56,000 for just the battery. $60,000 with labor.
Give me the F150 lightning ⚡️
Cybertruck is the first and only car, I have ever fell in love it.
A good video. I originally had a reservation for a Lightning, but cancelled it and got my money back. I am waiting for a better range. I am not interested in a CT, but if I were 25 years old again, I would buy one. lol
There was no mention of a 48V architecture. Also, you conveniently did not talk about the steer by wire advantage of the Tesla. What about the larger bed capacity with a vault? He also forgot one of my favorites the adjustable air suspension. Of course it is biased against Tesla. This is "E for Electric".
Welcome to E for Electric, Alex used to be a legitimate source for all things electric vehicles. He skewed towards exposing the industry as whole and getting down to the truth. Which was really refreshing, now he just targets Tesla, he sees himself as a beacon of truth, yet he falls short as his bias is so blatantly on display. I’ll keep watching hoping he eventually concedes. Though any content that involves Tesla, in any way, shape, or form will be biased and trend towards the negative. Otherwise he’s a great journalist.
Even musk admitted the cybertruck is a fail. damn tesla fanboys ignorance.@@flexluthor1
7:00 a lot of trouble? You mean unbolting a panel. Replacing it without any paint required vs undenting polishing paining etc.
I think replacing a panel is cheaper and easier.
The Rivian is still my dream car.
Option available for San Francisco would be shatterproof and bulletproof glass.😊
Ha! That’s nothing. My car can withstand throws from Lars all day long. New feature I never knew I had!
It's a tough situation, trucks are difficult for EV drivetrain, but that's what Muricans want. Would have been better to crawl before you walk, make aTtruckla or put a stubby bed version of an existing EVs to satisfy the desire to waste space.
Watch out for mixed specs, example: lowest trim price + highest trim performance
Let's wait and see if the entry RWD CT ever comes into existence.
Maybe when they open the 2nd or 3rd production line. Getting 10K orders per day day.
My experience towing with an EV is more like 1/3 the range. That is not even going above 65 mph on the highway. Now driving on 45 mph roads, your milage is close to only 1/2 the range. So for a trick to only have 340 miles of range to begin south is not going to cut it. Taking away 1/3 of the bed for a range extender is not a great option. A better option would be a bigger pack. I know they might be 4680 constraint now, but I'm hoping they do come out south a bigger battery in the future
About 1/4 of the buyers are ordering the range extender. I am still waiting on towing tests. Not Hoovie. Tesla did some nice range work on the semi. Lets see if any of that magic bleeds over to the CT>
Fair review. No real outrageous statements. I give this a good rating.
Not a truck; I am waiting for the MG Cyberster. I will accept NO substitutes! 😎
MG? Uh....ok?
Remember the "range" is not the fault of the Truck itself on all levels. CD,, Tire size and type Etc play into it. Even at 50% range, if the CT has equivalent 90mpg to 100mpg equivalent, and then loaded is 40-50mpg, it is still better than a diesel. It's more akin to size of gas tank as the critical issue not the vehicle itself only.
Tesla's website lists the cost of the range extender as $16,000 with availability not until 2024. Peace
2024 is next week
@@eddiegill And a year from now it will also be 2024.
16000 for range extender its on the site

Integrated motorized lockable tonneau cover standard feature.
Not mentioned.
Or the factory bed liner. Or the fact that power wall owners can plug right in. Ford charges you several thousand.
ground clearance
That deal to restrict sales lasted for like 3 days!!!
It has returned. A fair number of the hypercar makers have similar contracts.
if you're towing. I doubt either truck will have much more than 75m real world range
I don't think the glass on the production cybertruck will stop bullets, so calling it armored glass may give the wrong impression of its ballistic stopping capabilities. I would only test it using a dummy, not the human kind.
Neither Tesla nor Elon Musk has ever made specific claims about the Cybertruck's glass being bulletproof or providing ballistic protection. It is still very nice glass. It will take a lot more impact (if not big steel balls) and if it does chip it will not run like other glass.
Mr Elon lied, saying cybertruck is faster than 911 while towing a 911. Later revealed as a lie😂
safety violations? really?
Re: repairs to the bodywork of the CYBT: Frankly, if you have an impact that has seriously damaged the body to the point it needs fixing, I rather suspect the impact would probably be so huge it is unlikely you would live to have the damn thing repaired in the first place! That thing ain't gonna be 'dinged' in the car park by a wayward shopping trolley in the Wal-Mart car park....
Given only one trim level of the Cybertruck is "Available", the true competitor is currently the Hummer EV, and the Hummer EV is oddly enough a better truck.
Are you just salty because you don’t have one on reserve?
It was shown that 63% of F-150 owners do not tow or haul anything with their truck so limited towing range is overblown for most users. For mirror adjustments, once you set them and save the settings how often are you changing them? Even in my Dodge I never changed them once I had them set and the same goes for the climate control. Maybe I am weird, likely I am weird.
Another large percentage tow or haul rarely - and very few for long distances.
I also never mess around with the mirrors after setting them. The same goes for the climate control. I set it at auto and 21 degrees celcius and hardly ever touch it again. My seat and steering wheel also stay the same. The Tesla will automatically readjust when changing drivers. I guees I am weird also? Or is weird the new normal? Anyway, it is actually illegal or ill advised to mess around with these settings while driving in many countries/jurisdictions.
Love it , but early, there are no base cybertrucks, to compare, Lightning wins hands down, remember, NO EV can tow, any distance, and will never be able to, for 10 or 20 years. Its just math.
Gas trucks lose half mpg when towing large non areo load just like electric.
The Chevy does pretty good, right?
@@hoffingerbut they have large gas tanks that can quickly be refilled.
LOL so the tesla is either not a semi, or you think it can't tow? You did say NO EV.
BYTON!
Cant resell but bet theres going to be loop hole i gave him it as a gift, or trading
Bed length, towing weight, GVWR and cargo weight?
Ah, Tesla is best on real truck stuff, so don't mention those stats.
Based on elons trust me bro
@jeffsteyn7174 You're wrong. You can literally use a tape measure to measure the bed. You can legally attach a heavier trailer and load heavier cargo in CT, or be a criminal if doing that to a Lightning.
Thank you, Elon, for my $40K AWD Lightning! I love it! ❤
I hope F150 succeeeds, but Cyber Truck is sold out for 10 years (2 million units), and booking thousands more orders daily. F150 just cut production to 100,000 units per year, because inventory is piling up.
Tesla opening up their chargers to other manufacturers is a way of bolstering their income stream. 2024 and beyond is going to become evermore difficult for Tesla particularly as they don't have anything thing new on the horizon.
just came out with a truck.just updated model 3. will update model y the best selling car in the world next year.$25,000 car late in 24 or early 25 tesla semi ramping up in 24 what do you mean they have nothing on the horizon?
@@jamessmith-yk3sc The CT is at least 12 months away from mass production maybe more and can't be sold outside of the USA, actually I think it will flop.
The model 3 was little more than a face lift as the y will be. The 25k model is a myth just like the 39k CT tuned out to be and the semi is missing in action with no plans for production let alone mass production. I'm surprised you didn't drag out the old sports car story.
I won't get into the numerous law suits massing against Tesla.

Ford will imprive once it has access to the Tesla network.
its biggest rival is probably one that doesnt have 30 versions sitting on the lot.
I beleive Lightning2 will be much more comparable
That's my thought too. Next version with NACS and who knows what other features. Probably improved charging rate with the swtich to NACS among other things. 2025 is the expected next version so hopefully we find out in the next months / by late 2024.
I am a lifetime ford fan. But when will we see the Lightning 2. Everything seems to be pushed back. Hope the have the A team working on it.
the host said in the beginning of the video did not finish his sentence, so I finished it for him

“the cyber truck, I’ve noticed that people are pretty much divided into two categories.
1. the tesla fans think that it is stunning and gorgeous
2. And the rest of us, you know… “
will be forced to love it too 😂
"..... think it looks like it was designed by Bart Simpson."
7:24 It was a Tommygun with slow big bullets .45 cal. Hardly anything the outside of CT will pierce..... Gave one a AK or AR15 and see.
Your disdain for Tesla is so cute. Each quarter of Tesla's success must cut like a knife. Also, you forgot to mention the following: Ford is cutting production of its flagship F-150 Lightning pickup, in the latest sign that the company is tapping the brakes on its EV push. The company is planning to produce 1,600 electric Ford F-150s a week in 2024, down from an original target of 3,200, according to a CNBC report. Dec 12, 2023
I don't care about either one of those companies. I only care about the product and the customers. Tesla's quarterly reports have nothing to do with the product. It is amazing how Tesla fanboys care about the company more than they care about themselves as consumers. That's how you know you are in a cult.
Range extender is brilliant. Most pickup buyers don’t even fully use the bed.
It's a bad kludge. The least they could've done is raised it so you could still haul plywood.
It's also very likely not user removable. It's essentially permanently giving up that space.
Chevy figured it out. (2 layer battery pack.) Too bad Tesla couldn't.
Which is why the f150 and cybertruck are not competitors
Facts
@usa-ev In CT just load a couple blocks at rear of bed to same height as range extender battery and load above it... the sky (and weight limit) is the limit. Glad you weren't engineering the CT with your dumb idea to raise the height of the center of gravity.
@@123pathTube Good point. It's still a bad kludge.
The range extender will be available in 2024 for $16,000.
Ford cut down production of this electric pickup because they are not selling
Why Elon has been on a multi-year Red campaign. We'll see if it worked.
Yeah but think! Every truck they do not sell saves FoMoCo over $30K.
Spend some time on the cybertruck owners forum, real world range looks like 200 miles from full charge on the freeway. This means carrying things like dirtbikes on the back will further reduce range. I loved the CT but this means it isnt really a good fit for people like me doing sports and having to travel long distances. Charging also looks very slow.
From what I see in this vid, Cybertruck is better in everything (except for the price), but this guy dare to say it (he even insinuates at the end that the F-150 is better), cause he hates Tesla...
Sorry, you can't play with knobs on a Tesla, but the movable icons on the bottom of the Tesla screen are easier.
Tesla only delivered 10 of these Cybertrucks a few weeks ago and none since,
Tesla is getting paid a lot of money to open their charging infarstructure. Government should put pressure on VW to get EA running as is should have been.
Too many sites deratred and too many individual chargers down.
A big issue (from my experience) is older/slower to charge vehicles seem to mess the charger up. That would be poor programming.
Conspiracy theory is the VW is using EA to persuade people not to buy EVs. I started it.
Cyber truck of the gods ❤❤❤❤
This guy doesn’t even know things about tesla. Doesn’t have manual controls for the side mirror…do your homework. Where is the mention about Steer by wire?
Elon over promised and underdelivered at a higher price than even deposit-holders expected. This is also a possible legal argument. EV need quicker charging and longer range, and the promised carrot of solid state batteries are still unavailable. And as a long term Tesla investor, opening chargers to non-tesla vehicles carries zero benefit for Tesla stockholders. And I think the cybertruck is ugly beyond acceptable, no matter how great the other specs. When is the Rivian R2 expected at $40k?
I have not checked it out but the 2 motor is said to be quite close when inflation adjusted. Will be interesting if anybody can pull off a $40K electric pickup. Do you remember that ford announced the lighting starting at $40K?
1ST COMMENT AND LIKE. AWESOME I ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS.
Electric trucks are city trucks. For real people that own trucks not cityits. You could get away with a hybrid like the volt. 80km electric under 100km/h and then switch to gas. I would buy that.
Furthermore, towing, payload, winter absolutely kill range. Plus its twice the price of a normal truck and the battery cost alone writes the truck off when not if but when it fails.
Stellantis is going to produce what you seek. Google the RamCharger
I would rather drive an ICE car than a hybrid. Too complex. Recent transport evolved vid shows how there is so much more to break down.
That 1yr no reselling condition was removed. Please, fact check & update. Ty great video otherwise🤟
It also does NOT have armored glass. They decided against it. You "forgot" to mention the most important thing about the CT. 48 Volts system and steerby wire. This is industry disruptive features and rear wheel steer. C'mon Alex you're a better car journalist than this. Love your videos since day one but lets try to show consumer all the features so they can make an accurate decision.
Come on, man! Cybertruck blows away the Lightning is every way, period. Not surprising that you left out all the ways Cybertruck is superior. Thumbs down.
One thing the CT has going for it, Tesla dragged by force the rest of the industry to electrification. If it were not for the CT, the F-150 lightning would not exist. For that I give them credit. It is a noble mission to promote the electrification of transportation. However, I feel lied to about the 4680 revolution. The hype from other UA-cam channels on the 4680 transformation and then the CT being $80k+ for 300 miles is not a revolution. More "meh". It puts into perspective the dialog coming from Tesla centrist UA-cam channels. Thx for the video. I enjoyed watching.
The easy thing would be to continue buying cells from China. Do you know a US EV maker who is developing and making cells all by themselves? None.
Yeah the 4680 problems have ruined the current range of the CT. I expect it will get the full range when the cells are worked out. Look at it this way. If all Tesla did was copy the rest they could be spot on time. Get over it. There are lots of things inside this truck that are worthy.
@@danharold3087 Gm has Ultium, which if goes 2 plan will be in house / domestic packs. I agree bout CT. It is a distinctive vehicle
Both are garbage at being useful trucks at least with the lightning you can add a range extender aka diesel generator in the bed and charge it as you go🤣
Both electric so Both only for a city driver
Lightning all day every day and twice on Sundays... Oh and Ford gets access to the Tesla charging network this year. It is very true neither one is good for long range towing. If you have to tow more than 100 miles you better have a fast DCFC available. The Ford charging curve is pretty flat so the charge rate stays high across the charge range up to about 80% then falls off a cliff. By the time the CT is shipping in volume the T3 will be here. Ford is serious about trucks and people who actually have to use trucks for truck things. Not just a fashion statement.
The average selling price of an F-150 is $60,000. Most F-150s are used to pick up groceries and kids. 🤷

1, android auto and apple carplay is a result of uterly stupid car manufacturers not able to built a proper infotainment system
+1 for Tesla
2, instrument panel and head up display are not necessary when your car drives itself. Also we all drove with seporate with seporate navigation unites on the left or right of the driver for many years without issues.
3, mirrors auto in is also useless and unnecessary complex. Besides that if legislation is in place there is no need for side mirrors and they can be easily bolted off. In that case the 470 miles is likely 500 miles as promised.

Tesla charging stations for the win.
Tesla charging stations for the win is right! I’m not an Elon or Tesla fan, but as soon as I can charge my Bolt at a Tesla charger I’m never going back to Electrify America or any of the others.

@@Longsnowsmjust so you know, they don't get access to every single charger. Only certain stations. 😉
@@seniorcousinThe Bolt fleet might be enough to bring the Tesla network to its knees. Brilliant move by GM to clog charging infrastructure to prove EVs will never work! 😂

Cybertruck might have faster acceleration and longer range, but let's compare it to the other trucks, where it fails in everything , the f150 unlike the Cybertruck will get a complete overhaul in 2024, it will get longer range, faster charging and a plethora of other features the cybertruck will not get as they have just released the truck and Ford is very capable, having a hundred years of failures and successes to work from whereas tesla has 10 years of real world experience and does silly things like casting of huge parts that cannot be fixed but need to be replaced in an accident unlike say the lightning that can quickly have the few parts affected in an accident changed out.
Then we come to the most serious problem, and i think why musk said the Cybertruck is a failure himself.
Nobody has the facilities to repair a Cybertruck, not even tesla , yet, but even when tesla does start building service centrers or repair centres they will have huge problems as an exoskeleton is almost impossible to return to its original state after it has been deformed.
Yes i agree with musk the cybertruck is a failure, a nice project for musk to build his dream truck but not a vehicle that will last in any way shape or form.
I mean come on $2000 a month for insurance means it will only take roughly 2 and a half years to pay your insurance company the price of a new Cybertruck.
Maybe in the future we could see these trucks stripped down, and the drivetrain used as a base for those that just love to build their own projects, maybe we will see kits to convert the Cybertruck to a decent truck.
I, for one, would not mind buying the drivetrain of a written off cybertruck and putting a better body on it , something light, extending range a lot, damn build in the range extender battery that i agree will never reach market. Or remove the storage under the Cybertruck bed and install a 85kw tesla battery, extending range to well over 500 miles.
It would be easy to install an electric compressor that tesla advertised would be in the Cybertruck and even if i wanted a truck put a remote lowering ramp from the bed, damn build in a conveyer so it was easy to load anything, all at almost no cost.
Or i could take the body of a number of cars and create a monster.
I like my Toyota hybrid 😆👍
My thoughts are musk should of made $39000 cybertruck as advertised he is a liar scammer
When the Ford announced the Lightning in May 2021, the starting price for the Pro was $39,974k. Just buy one of them.
